A Cyborg Guardians Spinoff Novella She ran from a predator in human skin… and found safety in the arms of something not quite human at all. Ava Blake fled into the wilderness to escape a corrupt mayor’s grip—but what she found there was even more Koha’vek, a reptilian warrior from an enemy alien empire. Once a reluctant soldier, he now lives in exile, haunted by the war he never wanted to fight.
Threatened, hunted, and utterly alone, Ava has no reason to trust anyone—especially not a towering alien with claws and a tail. But Koha’vek doesn’t try to tame her. He protects her, shelters her, and offers something she thought she’d never have a choice.
As the war-ravaged world heals in uneasy silence, Ava and Koha’vek build a fragile life together in the forest shadows. But when their love draws the attention of allies and enemies alike, they become the quiet heart of a secret that could change everything.
They weren’t granted peace. They made it—with their own hands, in defiance of two worlds.

This is the first book I've read from this world and I loved it. Koha'vek is an alien living on Earth that has been forced to be part of abusing and torturing humans. At his breaking point, he escapes to live off the land in a remote area. Ava, having lost her family, is now being hounded by a local bully, the mayor, to steal her farm and take her as a sex slave. Yikes! As you may imagine, she takes off to try and find a place of safety. Koha'vek finds her unconscious and brings her back to his 'lair' to help nurse her back to health. As you may imagine, this is where our story really takes off and I was there for every page. I loved seeing them develop a relationship, build trust and let their chemistry grow so they could have that forever kind of love we're all looking for. Of course, nothing is that simple and the authors crafted a fab tale with danger, drama and politics to keep me glued to my reader as I followed Ava and Koha'vek to their steamy HEA. Good fun!
This was my first read by this duo and series. I feel like I missed a whole bunch of information but it wasn’t really needed to understand this book. Ava makes a run for it when the town bullies start to come after her ranch and her in the progress. When a bear threw her and she wakes with a seven foot monster standing over her she got the fright of her life. But Koha’vek is a big softy that just wants to see a human being flourish instead of be destroyed by his kind. He didn’t want his position and never wanted to leave his home world but he didn’t have a choice. It seems that many of his people were in the same place and mindset as him too. So as they like off the land in the mountains they find love and understanding in each other.
Clarissa Lake and Christina Myers have added a Cyborg Guardian spinoff with Koha'vek whom we briefly met in another book. Koho'vek is a Mesaarkan, a reptilian looking male with scales, a tail and slitted eyes. He hates the way his species has abused and tortured humans, so he escapes out into the wilds where he finds Ava, a human female who was injured while running from the mayor who has stolen her family farm and now wants to make her his sex slave. Very quickly K and Ava discover that they aren't so different after all and fall in love. Now they just have to overcome the fact that the treaty between their people means he will always be an outlaw on earth.
Every since this character was introduced in Raven's book I have been waiting for this book. Koha'vek's story was very good. It was nice to see the other side of the story so to speak. I can't wait to read the next book.
