In the frozen depths of a Colorado winter, survival is no longer just about enduring the elements—it’s about confronting the darkness that thrives in the wake of collapse.
Ben thought he’d carved out a fragile peace in the mountains above Durango, but when his youngest son, Brad, is kidnapped by Victor Slade, a brutal leader of an outlaw faction, everything changes. With time running out and a storm closing in, Ben, Joel, and Allie set out on a desperate rescue mission that will push them to the edge of their limits.
For Ben, one truth becomes peace will never come easy, not in a world that keeps dragging them back into the fight. With winter tightening its grip and fresh threats emerging from the shadows, the family must decide what kind of life they’re willing to fight for, and what they’re willing to sacrifice to build it.
Descent is a raw, relentless continuation of The Durango Chronicles, where survival is personal, freedom comes at a cost, and the road forward begins only after the blood has dried.
3 3/4 stars . It was too short and given that this is supposedly only a two book series it was left way too open ended - hopefully there better be a third -. I waited a while for this book to come out and it just felt a little lazy...sorry Bruno Overall an awesome series spin off from an even better series
Descent: The Durango Chronicles book 2, is an absolute thrill ride of a novel in the manor that only Miller can produce! The writing is perfect, with the highlight being the masterful way in which the action sequences are choreographed, vivid with complete clarity. There is no confusion or action that is hard to follow. That's not to say the rest of the writing isn't top notch. Everything is exactly as it should be. The characters, the settings, the plot, everything is simply exactly right. Overall, 5/5 stars, highly recommended for fans of apocalyptic survival thrillers, fast paced thrillers in general, and especially fans of post-EMP survival thrillers. Bottom line: no-one who picks up this book will regret it!
Read book one of this series. Book two is even worse. Awful!! Nothing finished. Frustratingly poor. Read little more than the start, the part where Brad is rescued and the very disgusting turn of events where Slade is allowed to escape, plus the finish. Reading is supposed to be fun. This was anything but. To top it off, Caldwell is still a threat? Illogical mistakes for having crossed the country twice since the EMP. Wouldn’t want to read a next Durango book. Disappointed.

I read for entertainment. I don’t pick apart every sentence looking for something to criticize. This series is well written and thoughtfully planned. I hope the next book doesn’t take too long.
This series is absolutely my favorite thing to read right now. This book just ended too soon, I usually pay attention to how far along I am in the book. However, I was just so engrossed reading and boom, done. I hope the next one comes out soon.
Just one complaint, it is too short. Now let me tell you that this short novel is is real page turner. This is a continuation of the dark road series which is one of my favorite apocalyptic stories. The characters have a way of worming their way into your heart, even them crazy dogs.
I really love this series and the characters. In this latest book we find out how Ben, Joel, Brad and the rest of the characters are surviving. We are also introduced to a couple of new characters as Ben and his family work to make their home safe. There is plenty of action and suspense in this latest story.
I Love this series!! Only wish the books were longer..or the wait between books was shorter…tho each book is well worth the wait!! I really enjoy the story and am deeply invested in the characters-the main ones i LOVE!! And the new ones i am very hopeful for the *good guys* and am glad to see an end to the bad guys!
This cannot be the last book to the series!! There is so much left unsaid. From this book we are given the impression that something is starting between Ben and Caldwell and we NEED to see how it ends.
