Roseanne Wilkins has been writing since she can remember, but didn’t finish a complete novel until she wrote Noonday Sun, a Twilight fan fiction. After finishing that, she pulled out her unfinished manuscripts and has been working on those. A couple of times, vivid dreams have pushed her into writing something new. She has five finished novels (six counting the fanfiction) and three picture books. In addition to mothering ten children, she is currently working on three other novels. She loves writing, reading, camping, crocheting, cross stitch, and computer games. Nowhere on that list is cooking, cleaning, or ironing.

This was a very cute story with some good values and cool little tidbits of history tied nicely together in a sweet and clean romance. I cried at times and sighed at times and wished for more of this story. Roseanne did a great job sharing the emotional ups and downs of pregnancy, infertility, surrogacy and a new marriage. I was able to believe the situation, though at times I longed for a little more conversation between Zack and Sondra to find out what they hoped to gain from this marriage of convenience, but in the end, I totally accepted their reasoning. Really cute story.

This Story Is Not Just For LDS Readers:
I have just finished reading “Lined with Silver” by Roseanne Evans Wilkins. Although I hadn’t read a LDS romance before, the synopsis suggested an unusual and intriguing reason behind this marriage of convenience story so I thought I would give it a try. I wasn’t disappointed. Ms Evans Wilkins clearly showed knowledge and a deep understanding of infertility/surrogacy issues facing some couples today.
Attorney Sondra is torn between dreams for her own future and the deep need to help her sister. How would being a surrogate mother affect her career and her chances of marriage and a family of her own? Sondra rushes off in a panic after her sister requests her help. She needs time to consider. The passenger beside her on the plane to DC seems hauntingly familiar but it takes Sondra time to realize who he is, an acquaintance from years ago who had inspired a huge crush. Sharing a rental car from Baltimore to DC they begin to renew their acquaintanceship.
Zack’s mention of his need to marry triggers an immediate response from Sondra. Why doesn’t he marry her? Both their problems would be solved by a temporary marriage, she argues. As the story is told only in Sondra’s point of view we are unaware if Zack’s motivation goes beyond his desire to ensure his aging grandmother can remain in her own home.
Their marriage isn’t as uncomplicated as Sondra expects. They face disappointment and despair, danger and uncertainty and then terrible sadness before finding their path to happiness.
Ms Evans Wilkins has a comfortable writing style and a charming way with words. Little phrases like “despite the promises from the sock manufacturer, her feet were going numb” paint a delightful picture. While there are indications of the author’s faith scattered throughout the story, a secular reader would not find them a distraction. This story is easy reading and I would recommend it to any reader who enjoys a clean romance.

Positives:
The plot was very creative and well thought out. I could not put the book down! I read it in two days. It was exciting because the two main characters found themselves in a situation that nobody would ever find themselves in. I imagine there is no other story like this, about the circumstances the main characters faced. I like stories about marriages of convenience that then end in romance. It was a bit freaky for me reading about the surrogate mother thing. And I was amazed that Sondra wanted to do this sacrifice for her sister.

Negatives:
There were several typos and run-on sentences. Also, parts of the book were too preachy and there were too many passive sentences. When the characters went on tours to see historical places, there were too much of the tour guide's words, and the writing became kind of dry. Also, some of the descriptions were strange. I felt they didn't show me enough of what was going on, and a few times I didn't understand what was going on because of the words used to describe it. The story could have used more depth.

I noticed a bit of sexism, which I didn't like, and the main female character was okay with it. Also, I felt like the pregnancy problems were exaggerated a lot. Sondra was only two weeks pregnant, yet she became helpless and Zack had to help her with everything. Also, there were inconsistencies with the time. The two got married, and two weeks later Zack told someone they'd been married for two weeks. Then two more weeks passed by, and Zack was talking to someone else and told them that they'd been married for two weeks when it was really four weeks. I didn't like how Sondra always needed help from others and how Zack was a know-it-all. I wish there had been more of a balance between the two characters.

Despite the negatives, it was a really great book! I highly recommend it.

Line with Silver, an LDS novel by Roseanne Evans Wilkins
What an exciting novel. It is full of life’s dilemmas intertwined with mystery and death. Line with Silver is a great story about a single LDS lawyer who is asked by her sister if she could carry her babies. Nicky and her husband, who is dying of cancer, can’t have the children and Sondra steps up to the plate after a meltdown trip to DC. In the flight there, she sleeps on the strong shoulder of a man she thought she knew. Imagine her surprise when he turns out to be Zack, the fourteen-year-old brother from her trek company from years before when she was a Beehive. To add to the whole surprise, she had a huge crush on him then or was it only then?
When Zack’s father’s lawyer calls him to say the estate will go to his sister if he doesn’t get married, he has a great problem since his father was near his dead. This would mean that his sister would send Granny to the old people's home and Zack would never let it happen. What can he do to prevent this from happening? And where can he found a girl to marry him today?
Sondra can’t go back to the single’s ward if she is going to be pregnant, and what will her law firm or her clients say about her being single. When she heard about the problem that Zack faced with his sister, she proposed having a wedding and having a pretend marriage until the babies were born. All works well until she realizes that Zack still holds her heart and that someone sinister is trying to kill them.
This is a great story to keep one reading until late at night. I enjoyed the plot and the characters in the story. They were real and their pain came through the writing. I recommend this clean mystery romance to any who like this genre.

This engaging LDS story is about Sondra who is secure in her single world as a successful civil attorney. Sondra's world is turned upside down when her sister, who is struggling with infertility, approaches her about being a surrogate mother. She would like to help her sister, but she works for an old-fashioned law office with an old-fashioned clientele. They would frown on a pregnant, single attorney.

Enter Zack, a computer engineer looking to find a way to keep his grandmother in her home. Sondra knew him years ago--and crushed over him for years. They find themselves sitting together on a flight to DC and reconnect, learning of each other's situations. Sondra needs a husband to explain the pregnancy; Zack needs to be married to meet the demands his father has placed in his will about executorship--and who has the power to place Granny in a "home."

Wilkins manages to provide a believable scenario where two modern adults might really agree to a marriage of convenience. It's fun to see the two of them fall in love as they get to know each other again. There's the obvious complication of not admitting to the other how they really feel. It also raised some interesting issues relating to fertility--you'll have to read the book to find out what those are.

There's also an interesting mystery relating to a dangerous stalker which gives the story an interesting twist. I'll just say to have your tissues nearby. I rate it 4 1/2 stars.

I received an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Perfect escape read! Sondra, a single attorney, makes the difficult decision to be a surrogate for her sister and her dying husband. Once the decision is made, she takes a trip out to Washington D.C. just to get a away for awhile and who happens to be on the plane with her? The guy she has been in love with since she was 13 and hasn't seen since then. They end up talking and agree to a "fake" marriage that will be mutually beneficial for them both. Of course, each of them want it to be more, but keep pretending the fake marriage is what they want. Throughout the course of the story, some dramatic things happen that they have to navigate through. It's a very entertaining, fast read and I really enjoyed it. I received this book as a First Reads winner on Goodreads.

Wow. This book was not what I expected. Between dieing of cancer, surrogate mothering, an old crush, an inheritance, fake marriages, work pressures, falling in love, and a potential killer this book was not dull. I read it straight though until the roller coaster of emotions was over. And it was a great ride. The book is a bit unconventional but a touching and engaging read. I really enjoyed it!

This story has great potential, and I really love the characters. But it felt like the author tired of telling the story part way through, and rushed to finish. You won't have any trouble guessing the villain either, because there's really only one possibility. I so wish the author had taken her time, and written a book twice as long with more characters.

Fun Read

This was a fun, modern romance with some mystery mixed in. While part of me feels the ending was a smidgen rushed and I do kind of wish there was an epilogue, overall this was a good read--the mystery and romance kept me flipping pages.

Though the ending seemed a little contrived to help resolve the moral delemma the idea of adopting unused embryo's was intriguing.

A new emotional twist on a marriage of convenience mixed with a bit of suspense. Definitely an LDS cultural novel.
