Snowflakes Over Starr's Fall was such a good read, small town at Christmas time vibes are full blown.

Jenna owns the village shop, but business is slow, so when an out of town man step in asking for overly sought after products, she is rude telling Jack to go to the next town.

Jenna and Jack didn't have a great first encounter, and maybe neither the second or third, but I've really enjoyed their journey.
I didn't like them at the start, they seem so entitled, but reading their personal stories I could understand where they came from, and chapte after chapter they conquered me. They are opposite that attracts, and it needs a snowstorm and a common projects to bring them closer and to make them overcome their assumptions.

Kate Hewitt wrote a charming story, I recommend to read it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for kindly giving me an advanced copy of this book to read.

I enjoyed being back in Starr's Fall, especially at Christmas time. Jenna has lived in Starr’s Fall for most of her life, and has run the general store for over ten years. In the last book, her brother who had run the store with her left to operate his own furniture restoration business. She is happy with her life, really, she is. When she meets the town's newest resident, Jack Wexler, it is not a pleasant experience. The ex-New York businessman is not prepared for what a small town has to offer, and is rude and obnoxious with Jenna when he visits her store. She can give as good as she gets, and he ends up giving her a terrible review online. When Jenna goes to the diner to commiserate with her friend, she shares her experience and everyone is on her side. When Jack is invited to the town's business meeting, he and Jenna end up working together to try and bring her business into the present and increase her business. They end up apologizing to each other, and chemistry rears it's ugly head. Can this pair of enemies become friends and maybe even more?

I enjoyed seeing all the characters I have met and fallen in love with in the previous books. Jenna's brother, Zach seems to be the only one who is friendly to Jack and make him feel welcome. The banter between Jenna and Jack is a hoot. I loved listening to them try to be nice to each other, but ending up with their foot in their mouth. Both Jenna and Jack have secrets and/or baggage that they need to share and try to move forward on, if they hope to have a real relationship. When they finally begin to care about one another, Jack gets offered a job back in New York, even though his doctor warned him to stay away from stressful situations. There is a certain amount of predictability to this book, but it was a lot of fun getting to the end. I enjoyed this story with it's festive activities and the friendly and quaint town and it's residents. Kate Handford does a wonderful job narrating this story, using expression, tone and voices to bring the story to life.

This is the third book in the Starr's Fall series and features Jenna and Jack. It had romance, humor, and a great small town. I really enjoyed that stories from other townspeople continue in each book. I liked catching up with them.

This was a really good read and I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall
This could have been a cozy small town holiday romance but the writing quirks pulled me right out of the story. The author insists on using the MMC’s full name Jack Wexler a staggering 95 times. Once or twice is fine but after that it starts feeling like I am reading a roll call. The plot is bogged down by overthinking and a ridiculously contrived miscommunication that drags on far too long. The FMC Jenna jumps to conclusions so fast she could medal in it. Dialogue choices like “rock up” and “blanking you” felt oddly out of place and I am not sure who is actually saying this. Overall it is another small town romance that ends up feeling interchangeable with dozens of others. Cozy vibes yes. Fresh no.

Jack Wexler is an ex-New Yorker, millionaire investment banker that has moved to Starr Falls. He had to retire due his heart attack and is not happy about the move. Jenna owns the town store and when Jack comes into the store hunting smoked salmon, she informs him that she doesn't carry such items.
Jenna's store is losing money and she doesn't know what to do about making it profitable. When Jack and Jenna is forced to work together for the town Christmas project, they realize they can really help each other out.

'That I love you...crazy banshee and all'.

I haven’t read the other books in this series, but that doesn’t matter. It can definitely be read as a standalone. Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall was full of small-town vibes with lots of fun, individual shops, where all the shopkeepers know each other and help each other out.

Jenna and Jack are the quintessential enemies to lovers couple. To say they detest each other at first sight is an understatement! I loved them both. I loved Jack’s city-type persona, but actually, pick him up and put him in the middle of a small town, and he slots in just nicely. Jenna’s reluctance to accept that change is necessary, in order to ensure that her store is a success, is admirable, but frustrating. I was remodelling it before Jack ever set foot in the door. 😂

This was a fun and lighthearted read. I enjoyed meeting all the different characters in Starr’s Fall, and I’ll definitely be going back and reading the first two books.

Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall is the third book in Kate Hewitt's series, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new characters like Jack, learning more about Jenna, and reconnecting with familiar faces from the previous books, such as Maggie, Zach, Joshua, and Laurie.
This book was a quick read for me; I listened to the audio version alongside the text, and I truly loved it. Once I started, I couldn't put it down!
It’s a perfect read for a cozy day at home when you can sip hot cocoa while reading by the fire (even if mine was just an artificial one on YouTube). The story is heartwarming, and once again, the characters are delightful. I did find Jenna to be a bit too stubborn at times, but I liked her overall, and I felt the same about Jack. I appreciated that both characters are older than we typically encounter in romance novels. At 36 myself, it's not always easy to find stories featuring single people around my age.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read more about Starr’s Fall and its residents.

Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall is a small town romance, with an enemies to lovers troupe set in a cozy little town with Gilmore Girl vibes.

I enjoyed this cozy escape to the small town of Starr’s Fall in this story of second chance romance. Starr’s Fall is delightful with festive vibes in abundance.

Jenna and Jack meet at the town’s general store that Jenna’s been running since her parents retired to Florida. Jack has recently moved to town from the city after a health scare forced him into retirement. The two instantly clash and sparks fly… just not in a good way. Will they find their happily ever after?

I enjoyed watching these characters grow as they worked together and discover that everything is not what it seems. This is the third book in the series and can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the first two books of this lovely series.

Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

The third book in the Starr's Fall series gives us the very fun big city guy moves to small town romance. Jenna runs a store which is where she meets Jack for the first time. He's a big city guy looking for his favorite snacks and she's running a small-town store that's struggling. Insults fly when people are hungry, and they do not hit it off on the right foot. Living in a small town means they are bound to keep running into each other and they slowly learn first impressions aren't everything.

I loved this book and jumping back into the world of Starr's Fall. Each book so far has taken place in the same town but with different main characters, so could be read as a standalone. I loved getting to read more about how some of the other characters from previous books, like Henrietta Starr and Laurie, are doing.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by Boldwood Books via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Snowflakkes over Starr’s Fall”, by Kate Hewitt, is a heartfelt story featuring two desillusioned people who start as enemies and end up embarking in both a business renovation and an amorous relatonship.
I loved how both Jack and Jenna begin in a place of loneliness and a certain sadness and lack of hope and slowly fall in love and find some kind of bliss and redemption.
Jack is a sexy hero with that “low and rumbling voice” and the initial unfriendliness hiding a thoughtful person.
I loved how energetic Jenna faces the risk of embarassment and opens up honestly, despite the fears and insecurities.
I was moved by the sense of loneliness and emptiness in both Jack’s and Jenna lives.
The author did a great job depicting the hero’s growing isolation and loss of identity because of the career-ending situation.
The feelings of being irrelevant, expendable, easily forgotten by colleagues and “friends” because of the loss of status are real in these situations and might hurt.
I enjoyed the “flirt by fighting”, humor, friendships, the fact the leads are honest with themselves and between them.I
I also liked the initial antagonism, even hostility between the leads, how both changed and adapted throughout the story.
The Miller’s Mercantile renovation project and the general atmosphere of Starr’s Fall are also interesting.

This is the third book in Starr’s Fall series. It’s an idyllic town, like a picture-perfect one you see in the movies.
Jenna is a familiar face, and I’m glad she gets her chance at a HEA. She always felt quite timid in the previous books, the complete opposite to her brother Zach.
Jenna is stuck in a rut, not wanting to change Miller’s Mercantile but struggling financially. What she doesn’t anticipate is the newest resident, Jack, the guy who gave her a 1-star review for not stocking smoked salmon, is now the one to help and guide her through the changes.
Jack’s reasons for leaving New York were health-related. After suffering a heart attack and a stomach ulcer, he knew he needed to make significant changes in his life. He chose Starr’s Fall to be closer to his mum, who has Alzheimer’s and is a resident in the local memory care home.
Going from work consuming every waking moment to recovering after surgeries is a huge life change for him, and he’s lost. Helping Jenna with the changes to the store gives him a purpose, but where will his future lie? Will Starr’s Fall be enough for this city slicker?
I really did enjoy the banter between them and I do enjoy a good enemies-to-lovers trope.

What a wonderful book!!! I am so happy to have read it! I absolutely loved following the main characters and discovering their lives. There is a romance in this book but not such a straightforward one which I loved. It’s a book that you can put down easily, you will want to know what will happen next and under the characters of this book better. And if you love Christmas, you will love the Christmas vibes in this book! So lovely! I am giving a 4 stars out of 5! I warmly recommend it!

If you’re craving that quintessential small-town Christmas vibe wrapped up in a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers stew, then Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall has your name scribbled all over it. Jenna, our fiercely stubborn mercantile queen, has been running the family store in Starr’s Fall like a pro, or well, like someone barely keeping the lights on while nursing a decade-old heartbreak. Then, enter Jack Wexler, a flashy ex-New Yorker with a heart attack in his rearview and a Rolex on his wrist, who storms into her shop hunting smoked salmon and immediately ticks every “annoying city slicker” box possible.

Their first meeting? Basically a frosty verbal slapfight, with Jack throwing shade like he’s on Wall Street and Jenna wielding “shrew” like a badge of honor. But in true small-town fashion, avoidance isn’t an option, especially when the town ropes them both into organizing the Winter Wonderland parade, a set-up so classic it practically jingles with holiday clichés. What follows is a painfully slow un-thawing of two prickly, prideful people who might just realize the magic they didn’t know they were missing was right under their noses (or behind the general store counter).

Now, I’ll say it, the romance here is more simmer than sizzle. Jack and Jenna are about as polite and careful with each other as two cats stuck in a box together. Their snark and stubbornness make for some entertaining banter, but the emotional connection? A little elusive. The repeated use of "Jack Wexler" like a legal document rather than a man’s name made me feel like I was stuck in a courtroom drama instead of a cozy romance. And honestly, the angst dragged on so long I wanted to shout “Move on, people!” from my reading chair. But hey, there’s something kinda sweet about two grown adults tiptoeing around feelings like they’re defusing a bomb.

What really saved this from turning into a snoozefest was the setting. Starr’s Fall is like that snowy Instagram filter you desperately need in January. The town itself feels like a character, a warm, chatty neighbor who shows up with cookies and unsolicited advice. The side characters and ongoing storylines from previous books add layers of depth and familiarity, making it feel less like a standalone and more like a reunion with people you want to believe exist somewhere in Connecticut’s frosty pockets.

There’s a surprisingly tender undercurrent here too: Jack’s grappling with a forced retirement and his mother’s Alzheimer’s, Jenna’s dealing with family dynamics and financial strain on the store she loves. These real-world issues sneak past the holiday fluff and hit that sweet spot where cozy meets emotional resonance. It’s like eating pie with a side of honesty, and trust me, I’ll take that combo any day.

But let’s not kid ourselves, the plot is as predictable as a Hallmark movie, with no real surprises behind the snowflakes. You know where this train is headed, and it’s arriving right on time for the Christmas finale. Still, there’s a comforting charm in that predictability, like putting on your fluffiest socks and watching the snow fall outside your window while sipping something warm and dangerously sweet.

If you want a quick, gentle romance with middle-aged leads who carry their emotional baggage with a weird mix of grace and stubbornness, this is your ticket. Just don’t expect fireworks or groundbreaking chemistry. It’s more about those slow burns that warm you from the inside out while you’re curled up under a blanket, maybe wishing your own love story could be as uncomplicated as an argument over smoked salmon.

So, Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall lands solidly at three stars for me, a cozy, predictable, but ultimately pleasant winter read with enough heart to keep you engaged, even if you want to shake the leads a little. Perfect for anyone who likes their romance like their hot chocolate: sweet, slow, and with a little whipped cream on top.

Merry Mayhem Prize: For Turning Frosty First Impressions Into a Full-Blown Winter Wonderland of Feels

This was my first time picking up a book by Kate Hewitt, and I honestly couldn’t have chosen a better place to start. I hadn’t realised this was the third in the Starr’s Fall series, but it works beautifully as a standalone – and I’ve already gone and bought the previous two books because I can’t wait to return to this town and spend more time with its people.

From the very first chapter, I knew this was a story I was going to love. Starr’s Fall itself is such a magical, welcoming place, with all the warmth and charm of a small town wrapped up in festive sparkle. At its heart is Jenna, who has been running the general store for years. She’s steady, dependable, and so easy to connect with – happy in her little corner of the world, even if part of her quietly longs for something more.

That “something more” arrives in the form of Jack Wexler, Starr’s Fall’s newest resident. Fresh from New York City and completely out of his depth, Jack storms into Jenna’s life with complaints about the lack of smoked salmon and a chip on his shoulder. Their first meeting had me laughing, and I loved how quickly the sparks began to fly. What starts as friction slowly turns into something far deeper.

The slow build of their relationship was just perfect for me. I adored watching Jenna and Jack grow, challenge each other, and learn to see life differently through one another’s eyes. Their chemistry is undeniable, but it’s the way they softened and balanced each other that really stole my heart. By the time Christmas approached, I was utterly invested in them both.

The pacing was gentle and steady, allowing the magic of the town, the romance, and the festive atmosphere to shine through. I loved every detail, every heartwarming scene, and every glimpse of small-town life. By the end, I wasn’t just smiling – I was already longing to dive back into this world, which is why I’ve picked up the earlier books to catch up properly on Starr’s Fall.

A truly gorgeous festive romance, full of charm, warmth, and that all-important Christmas magic. I’m so glad I discovered Kate Hewitt’s writing, and I can’t wait to see where she takes us in Starr’s Fall next.

Snowflakes Over Starrs Fall by Kate Hewitt is a romance, and like the others in this series, it is simple and satisfying. Starrs Fall is a small, previously dying town in Connecticut. It has recently started to come to life because of new people moving in, looking for new lives. One such is Jack Wexler who has purchased a mansion on the lake. He had moved because the doctor had said that if he went back to his previous life, he would die. He had had a massive heart attack at forty and he didn’t want to die. All he wanted was something heart healthy to eat when he went to the Mercantile and ran into Jenna. She was rude. In a fit of anger he posted a really negative review. Well, he had to admit he hadn’t been at his best either and eventually took the review down. It made Jenna think, though. Had her brother, Zach, been right when he said it needed updating? Then she ran into Jack at the community meeting where he was offering to help. He could help her and he did. Together they updated the place, falling in love as they did so.

The problem was, neither one of them knew how the other felt. Neither had been in love before. It took a while to communicate. It was almost fun to watch. Meanwhile the new Mercantile was ready to make its debut. Granted, most of the attendees were locals, curious to see the changes. But they liked what they saw and they like she had expanded her inventory. This is a homey, small town romance, full of interesting characters and people with plenty of advice to hand out. Jenna finally reached out to her estranged mother and discovered things she’d never known, including why her perception of her parents had been what it was. She had been wrong, and she had been wrong about Jack. All she wanted to do, at forty, was have a life full of friends and love. Could she make that happen?

I was invited to read Snowflakes Fall Over Starrs Fall by Boldwood Books. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #BoldwoodBooks #KateHewitt #SnowflakesFallOverStarrsFall.

Snowflakes Over Starr's Fall by Kate Hewitt
Spend Christmas in the breathtakingly beautiful small town of Starr's Fall with million-copy bestselling author Kate Hewitt
Book 3 of 3: Starr's Fall
Welcome to the magical town of Starr's Fall
As the stars twinkle and the snow drifts over the town… someone’s about to find the magic she didn’t even know she’d been missing…
Jenna has lived in Starr’s Fall for most of her life, and has run the general store for over ten years. Secretly she might dream of love and romance, but she’s happy as she is. Really.
That is, until Starr’s Fall’s newest resident—ex-New Yorker, millionaire investment banker—Jack Wexler breezes into Jennas store, seemingly furious they don’t stock smoked salmon. Jenna is as amused as she is annoyed. Who is this ridiculous guy, and doesn’t he realize he’s not in Manhattan anymore?
Jack meanwhile can’t believe he lost it in public. But ever since being forced to leave his high-flying career to focus on his health, he’s not been himself. What’s more, the last person he’d expected to be attracted to is the shrew of a storekeeper he’s just encountered… which he might have called Jenna, in a moment of temper…
Neither of Jenna or Jack’s ideal of romance includes these sorts of furious sparks flying. But when they’re both roped in to organizing the town’s Winter Wonderland parade, they’re forced to work together. And as Christmas approaches – will two opposites merely attract? Or, in magical Starr’s Fall, could they fall in love for keeps?
This is Jenna Miller's story.
This Jack Wexler's story.
Jenna Miller returns home to Starr's Fall to run the family's mercantile store.
Jack Wexler has moved to Starr’s Fall for a quieter life.
I recommend this book.
Snowflakes Over Starr's Fall by Kate Hewitt is a 4 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Kate Hewitt.

Kate Hewitt has delivered another heartwarming story from Starr’s Falls a place that seems to make magic happen even in the most challenging of circumstances. In Snowflakes Over Starrs Fall it is Jenna’s turn to have a little magic in her life even though she believes she is doing just fine on her own.
Jenna has lived in Starr’s Falls most of her life and has inherited the families Mercantile General Store which while it has been a large part of Starrs Falls for many years is well past its time and use by date, drastically in need of either an overhaul or closing.
Jack Wexler has arrived in town wanting to buy Smoked Salmon along with other upmarket food items. When he discovers they cannot sourced in town, he and Jenna trade words, sparks fly, and ill feeling is left behind.
This sets the tone for the balance of the book as the two antagonists never seem to miss an opportunity to spark conflict, until they begin to realise that by working together perhaps, they can make some sort of sense out of the diverse pathways their lives have taken.
Both are struggling to face a very different future, both resenting the demands placed on them. A town meeting forces them to work together to try and make the most of the forthcoming Winter Wonderland festival and parade as well as renovate the ailing Mercantile Store before Christmas.
Will they finally learn that the past is past, and the future can be filled with promise if only they can learn to trust again. Old friends populate the storyline giving a lovely sense of continuity to the series as they too celebrate new beginnings and old friends passing.
Book three in the series on Starr’s Fall from Kate Hewitt does not disappoint and will charm the romantic in us all once again as we step out of reality and into the magic that is Starr’s Fall.

Jenna Miller, 38, runs Miller’s Mercantile in Starr’s Fall. It’s a simple place that doesn’t offer high end foods. An obviously wealthy man comes in and is taken aback at the simple store. His critical comments irritate Jenna and she snarls back at him resulting in him calling her a shrew. He is Jack Wexler and he’s just moved to the town. When he writes a scathing review of the store and of Jenna, she responds angrily on the review.

Jack had to leave his high powered job after a heart attack and ulcer landed him in the hospital. So he retired and bought a lake front home in Starr Falls.

Jenna is still seething about him so when he turns up at the town’s business association meeting to give them advice on how to improve their businesses, she is reluctant to get advice from him. In an effort to mend fences with her, he invites her to dinner to talk about how she can improve her store and she accepts.

Jack has some terrific ideas and soon his advice comes to fruition with a huge changeover for the store. Their relationship is as friends but Jenna thinks maybe it can be more. But both of them get enlisted to take over the town’s Winter Wonderland festival which means they are thrown together often. Could this lead to a relationship for them?

This book is full of good friends and family. The town is close knit and Jack seems to be fitting in well. However, Jenna is temperamental and having been hurt before means she is wearing her armor at being hurt again. A lot of good things are happening here and I liked Jenna and Jack but I feel that Jenna’s temper needed to be better controlled as I ended up cringing for her at times. But a good story.

Jenna has lived in Starr’s Fall for most of her life, and has run the general store for over ten years. Secretly she might dream of love and romance, but she’s happy as she is. Really.

That is, until Starr’s Fall’s newest resident—ex-New Yorker, millionaire investment banker—Jack Wexler breezes into Jenna’s store, seemingly furious they don’t stock smoked salmon.

My Opinion

Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall is the third book in the series and it was such a delightful addition. Kate Hewitt has once again written a charming story that I would highly recommend. Starr’s Fall is such a welcoming small town with some fantastic characters.

Jenna Miller is kind of stuck. She's been running her parent's general store, Miller's Mercantile, since they left for retirement in Florida. It's not exactly a thrilling life, but it's better than having your heart broken, which is what happened the one time Jenna left Starr's Fall for the big city. Enter the snobby city slicker, Jack Wexler, looking for smoked salmon and not afraid to stand up to Jenna. Together they will try and save her store, and maybe find out they have more in common then they initally thought.

I started this series last year and it was such a pleasant surprise how much I enjoyed it. When every new book has come out I've grabbed it immediately and enjoyed taking 24 hours away from life and visiting Starr's Fall.

If you're a fan of gilmore girls and all things cozy then you are going to love Starr's Fall. Low spice romance in a small town? Yes please!!! I loved visiting with the couples in the first two books, and of course Jenna and Zach's story in this one.

I like Jenna and Zach's story. They are both a little grumpy, and the slow burn build to sunshine is totally worth it!

This one goes deep with Zach's mom suffering from Alzheimer's and the various other side storylines from local townsfolk. It is a romcom with depth and it is one of my favourite series. If you enjoyed The Pumpkin Spice Cafe then you need to read this one. Grab a cup of tea and some tissues and be prepared to be carried away to the best little town there is.

This is book 3 in the Starr’s Fall series, but can be read as a standalone. It is a cozy smalltown romance that starts off as enemies to lovers. We have Jenna, who runs her families general store. She is a Starr’s Fall native and is a wee bit bitter and twisted after being dumped by her highflying corporate boyfriend 10 years before. She tells herself she’s happy on her own, running her store, she has that and her friends and doesn’t see a relationship in her future and she’s happy with that.
Enter Jack Wexler, Millionaire New York investment banker, that is until his health, forces him to retire and get stuck in some backwater small town. He is tall, dark, and deliciously handsome, but that can’t save him from Jenna’s ire when he enters her store, and is less than impressed. There are fireworks between them, but not the good kind! Tempers flare, both are furious after their first encounters.

I really enjoyed this book, the writing style is great. Jenna is sassy and sarcastic and does not let anyone treat her badly, not like her ex did. Jack has more layers than Jennifer thinks. Their clash of personalities is great, the book is full of humour, sadness, joy and everything in between. It was a great four star read for me and I would definitely recommend. If you love great cozy enemies to lovers small town romance with a sassy attitude FMC then this one’s for you. It would also make a great Christmassy read.

I loved going back to Starr’s Fall in Connecticut to read Jenna Miller’s story. I was introduced to her in Playing for Keeps In Starr’s Fall, which was her brother’s story, and I have to say that she didn’t really endear herself to me then. In Snowflakes Over Starr’s Fall we learn more of her backstory and the reason for her sometimes surly attitude and refusal to upgrade Miller’s Mercantile, which she owns and runs. Jenna’s very protective of her store, which she treats as an extension of herself when this book begins, resulting in a shrewish response from her to an entitled and stinging attack on the store by Jack Wexler, a wealthy and apparently entitled New Yorker who has relocated to Starr’s Fall. Talk about enemies to lovers! The sparks certainly fly between these two at the beginning, and not in a good way. Thankfully as they get to know each other and we get to know them both, softer sides begin to appear and it wasn’t long beforemI began to cheer for them both. Their story is set in the lead-up to the town’s Winter Wonderland Festival and of course there is plenty of community involvement to ensure Jenna and jack are pushed together. The setting is lovely and while the community is filled with gossips eager for the latest tidbit to share, it is a warm and inviting community. I loved the themes that flowed through this book: new beginnings, self-discovery, community, family and learning to trust. If you’re looking for a feel-good read, then this one is for you.

Snowflakes Over Starr’s Falls, by Kate Hewitt, is the story of life-shy Jenna Miller. First born child of hippie parents, Jenna always felt like an afterthought. Her parents seemed so wrapped up in their romance that she was unimportant. Growing up, Jenna wanted to escape her small hometown and family and find where she did belong. Watching her parents, she longed to have a romance such as theirs, pinning her hopes on someone who didn’t share her feelings, breaking her heart and spirit, sending her home to hide from life.

Now, with her parents retired to Florida and the store, Miller’s Mercantile, left for her to run, Jenna is running it in the red. She won’t listen to her brother about revamping the store even though he is running a successful business of his own. The mercantile is as stuck as Jenna is.

When a rude New York City man, Jack Wexler, comes to the store seeking smoked salmon, Jenna’s bitter tongue spews anger right back. When he later posts a scathing review online, Jenna seethes but responds with grace. Later, when they meet in more social settings, they begin a civil conversation leading to them both making some real changes.

This is a really good book dealing with so many emotions and life changing events. Ms. Hewitt has created such an interesting setting with dynamic characters and some surprises along the way. I very much enjoyed this book and do recommend it!

Jack Wexler, a newcomer to Starr’s Fall, is in a bad mood, there’s no smoked salmon for his breakfast in the only grocery store in town, the box of cereals he picked up is out of date and the woman serving in the store is a shrew! Not impressed by the store at all he leaves a poor review online.

Jenna, the proprietor of Miller’s Mercantile was not impressed by her Rolex wearing, Porsche driving, city slicker customer (reminded her of the man who broke her heart a few years ago) and even less impressed by the review he left. Telling all her friends made her feel better and it did nothing for Jack’s reputation. Not a good start for a potential romance!

Starr’s Fall is small, so Jenna and Jack find it hard to avoid each other but having to work together on town business gives them an opportunity to begin to see each other in a different light. Jenna fears change, although she knows she need to update the store and Jack, whilst recovering from his illness, misses his old life and feels a need to get back into the business world again. There are some bumpy times ahead for these two.

I do enjoy visiting Starr’s Fall, especially meeting up with characters from the previous books to see how their lives have changed, and I suggest that you read the first two books before this one.

3.5 rounded up.

Jenna runs Miller's Mercantile, her family's small-town general store in Starr's Fall, Connecticut. She likes things the way they are--safe and comfortable--but knows some modernizing and changes are needed if the store is going to survive. When a rude customer, newbie Jack who's just moved in from NYC and represents everything Jenna hates, comes in and highlights the store's shortcomings, Jenna goes a little off the rails. And the hate between the two of them begins.

At only 42, Jack suffered some health setbacks that forced him to retire from his high-powered and high-stress job in Manhattan and find a quieter life, at least for a while. He's determined to make up for lost time and past mistakes, but can't help needling Jenna. When they begin working together to modernize her store and plan a winter festival for the town, what will happen?

This was a really cute, cozy small-town enemies-to-lovers romance that was very pleasant to read. Watching Jack and Jenna's relationship grow, and the baggage they both worked to overcome, was fun and rewarding. It got a bit slow for a while with Jenna rehashing everything in her life over and over, and at times I found her a little whiny and an overreactor. Still, I enjoyed the book, the small town, the characters. I haven't read the first two books in this series but am adding them to my TBR now.

Jenna has run Miller's Mercandile general store for over ten years since her parents had passed it on to her when they retired to Florida. She returned to run it when a previous relationship turned sour and hadn't updated it in any way and it was now really struggling. When Jack, a high flying Wall Street executive, walks in and asks where the smoked salmon was things turned ugly quickly, however in such a small community they are bound to keep bumping into each other.
Jenna doesn't come across as a very nice person, although her friends do like her so she isn't all bad. Jack is also a type that I can't easily relate to, an obsessed high flyer who has had to retire due to ill health. The story gradually shows the real person behind the front and the reasons for how they are. I did look at the author's biography as in addition to the previous book in this series that I have read set in rural America she has also written some set here in the UK - she is from America but now living over here, so this makes sense. Struggling small communities seem to be common across both countries and stories can therefore be transposed from one to another. In a summary a sweet, emotional enemies to potential lovers story.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
