영웅의 관
“죄수 번호 444. 식사 시각이다.”
죄수의 몸에 빙의했다.
그것도 내일 죽는다는 사형수에.
그러나 상황 파악도 하기 전, 엄청난 폭음과 함께 감옥이 부서져 바깥으로 끌려 나오게 된다. 이제는 탈옥수까지 되었는데.
“소개할게요. 내 이름은 하르에니르 폰 루체테. 신성 제국 솔라레스를 수호하는 성기사단 시드온의 단장이자, 교단의 첫 번째 검. 그리고…… 오늘 죽었다고 알려진 영웅이죠.”
부드럽게 뻗은 눈매, 유순하게 웃는 인상, 자애롭게 굽어살피는 듯한 분위기.
모든 것이 그를 성자(聖子)처럼 보이게 했다.

[성공 보상: 자유]
[실패 페널티: 죽음]
“당신이 부리는 영혼들이 필요해요.
이대로 돌아가 사형수로 죽을래요, 아니면 날 도와서 감형받을래요?”
“내 사령이 필요한 이유는? 나여야만 할 이유가 있나?
제국에 사령술사가…… 나뿐은 아닐 텐데.”
“당신이 가장 많은 시체를 찾아다니면서 그 영혼을 뽑아내 노예처럼 부리고 있으니까. 인간의 영혼을 수십, 수백의 단위로 부릴 만큼 지독한 존재는 당신뿐이라서.”
마지못해 퀘스트를 받아들인 이사프는 자신을 적대시하는 영웅과 함께 비밀리에 괴물의 비밀을 파헤쳐 가는데…….
“당신…… 처음 만났을 때랑 느낌이 다르네요.”
플레이어 복지 따위 없는 망겜에서 과연 이사프는 ‘자유’를 얻을 수 있을까.

I loved this. I loved the pacing, the tension, the interactions.
Isaph as a main character was a character I could root for. This was someone who had lived a life of misfortune, but still able to keep kindness in his heart.
I liked how the side characters changed slowly as they started to spend more time with Isaph, even as Isaph himself didn't change. It was the side characters updating their impression of Isaph, and I liked how the story showed this in their words and treatment of him.
The ML for this story was perfect for Isaph. And even his behaviour near the end was believable given what he had to witness, and he personified the words "desperately devoted" to me. I loved their romance too, even if it's mostly left for the ending and side stories.
I will be re-reading this again.
