Objection, Daddy

Rate this book
She hid my daughter for five years.

Now she's back in my courtroom — same red suit, same smart mouth, same fire I never put out.

Zuri Davis thinks she can win this case like she wins everything. But this isn’t a deposition. It’s war. And the second I saw that little girl with my eyes and her stubborn chin?

It was over.

She wants custody, control, clean lines drawn between past and present.

I want my name on the birth certificate, my hands on her hips, and my child sleeping down the hall where she belongs.

I should walk away. I should bury her in litigation and move on.

Instead, I’m moving in.

She wants boundaries? I’ll cross every one.

She wants peace? I’ll give her pleasure so savage she forgets her own objections.

She thinks I’m still her rival?

She’s about to find out I never stopped being her daddy.

Read on for secret babies, courtroom chaos, obsessive possession, and a lawyer who wins at everything — except walking away from the woman who kept his child. HEA Guaranteed!

The plan went astray

I appreciate fleshing out characters and building a relationship with the characters. I could see that the writers had a plan in place, but somewhere, it went astray. I liked MC. He was true to his feelings and knew what he wanted. Not so much the FC. She never had a solid reason for not telling him he was going to be a father. I definitely didn't understand how her employer didn't know she was pregnant. What about maternity leave. If Sophia was born in 2022, the book was the current day. How could she be 5. He started off being 35 and ended the book as 35. This is after the 5 year epilog. The twins went from soccer practice to playing baseball in the span of 1 page. Was Francesca related to the couple selling the business? I can say the concept was good, but not the execution. There are too many confusing changes. Please find a credible editor for these mistakes.

TOO MANY INCONSISTENCIES

This book had so much potential. We had a well known, intelligent, sexy shark female lawyer and we had the same with the male, but the age discrepancies with the kids and the timeline of the relationship had me confused and distracted from what could have been a good novel.

Maybe having TWO different authors, who obviously didn’t collaborate wasn’t a good idea. Even the ages of the main characters were off, when it was mentioned in the epilogue. More author collaboration was needed.

Also, Sophia’s dialogue did not match up with her age. I’m not sure I’d recommend this book. I hope the authors read this review and the many others who brought this up, and figure out how to do better with the next book because they have much potential to be good writers.

The writing is decent but the story is dragging. 27% in and I still dont understand why the FMC left the MMC. NOR the hostility she has toward him. At this point I'm hoping the story can be saved with some big reveal soon about why she is so against a relationship with him. Can't be the daughter because she didn't exist the first time Zuri left. Just keeps going downhill. Zuri is pretty much a jerk. Alessandro could do better.

Skimmed and scanned from 44% on.

I am definitely reading this over

When I come across a great story I will read it over and over again, this is one of those stories. Alex & Zuri was really good it this story, but what put it over the top was their daughter Sophia she was so politically correct, it was just too funny. Her humor and her seriousness in this story makes it an awesome read. I couldn’t stop reading I didn’t want to wait til morning to finish, because it was hard to put down. So here I am finishing it a 2:30 in the morning. This is really a great, great read.

I did not enjoy this story as it was too contrived, especially the last part and there are far too many inconsistencies.

Scenario 1: Two bedroom villa on the Amalfi coast, both mc and fc have their own rooms, yet in one chapter pillow dividers are used because they’re sharing a bed. Then in the next chapter as if to remind us that they’re not sharing a bed, the mc knocks on the door of the fc in the early hours of the morning????

Scenario 2: The child’s age is all over the map. What age is she authors? Is it 3, 4 or 5 going on 6????.

Scenario 3: Child earlier requests from her mother to bring back gelato. Then later on (in another chapter) said child is asking what is gelato? (I mean, come on????). Pronunciation of words by child keeps changing- calls Italy - It-ly and then Italy and then it’s back to It-ly again. (Shaking my head).

Then there’s the time difference factor - which the authors clearly didn’t consider. Fc is calling NYC from Italy, yet the times appear to be the same in both places???? Hello…Europe is 6 or 7 hours ahead of New York depending on DST.

Another not properly thought through scenario, the fc is woken up at 3am, and as she’s crying, mascara is dripping from her face? Wow!

Lastly, you can tell no one edited this book. Clearly one author wrote one chapter and the other author wrote another and there was zero collaboration. I mean why bother….its only a small matter of consistency.

I thoroughly loved and enjoyed this book. it was definitely worth reading.

Alessandro and Zuri had a competitive working relationship while working for competitive law firms. She was good at taking down counselors and Alessandro was in awe and in love. Because they worked for opposing law firm their competitiveness was off the charts. They had a one stand and months later Sophia Grace Davis was born. Sophia had her father’s eyes and some of his stubbornness. She was a very intelligent little girl and very supportive of her mom. While Alessandro and Zuri was working on a merger in Rome, he discovered he had a daughter. Sophia was 3 and 3/4 years old. Very bright and outspoken. When she saw Alessandro it was instant love for both. I enjoyed this story so much because how the authors incorporated dialogue for Sophia. The story was beautiful and will definitely read again.

Overall, a Decent Story

The overall story was good and enjoyable, but I did find some issues that took me out of the flow. The daughter’s age was inconsistent throughout — at one point she’s three and a quarter, and later she’s suddenly five.

The pacing toward the end also felt rushed. We jumped from three months later, to six months later, and then suddenly five years into the future — all within the last ten minutes of the audiobook (or last two chapters in print). I usually enjoy time jumps that show how the characters’ lives evolve, but this felt more like a quick wrap-up than a natural progression.

I also didn’t understand why a past lover was introduced so late in the story — around 80% in — as it added unnecessary confusion rather than depth.

Overall, it’s a decent story with good potential, but the inconsistencies and rushed ending made me deduct one star.

This is the journey of Alessandro and Zuri. They already have a history with each other, having had a steamy, passionate one-night stand. But the next day, she ignores him and doesn't want any further contact after their night. After a few years, she returns, and when they both have to work on a case as lawyers, he discovers he's a father, and they have to work not only on the case but also on the reason she didn't say anything. Just when you think they're finally getting it together, someone from his past shows up and causes problems between them, and that's when things really heat up. A wonderful story and definitely recommended.

I enjoyed reading Objection, Daddy by Jazlyn Starr and Tyla Walker. Zuri and Alessandro (aka Alex) are opposing attorneys who shared one night of passion five years ago. Zuri ghosted Alex afterwards and would not accept his invitations to see each other again. Unknown to Alex, their one nightstand created a baby which Zuri hid from him. Fast-forward five years and Zuri and Alex are forced to work together on a major project. Alex accidentally finds out that he is a father, and things get a bit rocky, but when Alex's deranged ex-girlfriend gets involved, all heck breaks loose.

Editing

The story flowed nicely until the small details made it obvious that this was written by two different people. The time line, their history, their daughter's age, even the sex of their children kept changing. The chapter's on the ex's drama came out of nowhere because up until then there was no mention of her or any kind of possible drama with her. In the beginning it is understood that they had a one night stand that resulted in a kid but sporadic implications of an actual relationship that ended badly contradict that. Despite some needed better editing I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Best Closing Argument

She built a wall around her bigger than mount Everest… Almost impossible to climb!! But, Alessandro refused to give up, he just can’t… and when he discovered that he was a father of a beautiful, beyond smart little 5 year daughter ( btw there are so many typo about Sophia’s age 🤪), there was no way he wasn’t going to get involved. He wanted both, mother and child. As for the brilliant Ms Davis, a kick butt lawyer, she was determined to keep these walls up …
Their banters are hilarious and little Sophia is priceless!
But Alessandro Ricci is no ordinary lawyer, they are equal in everything…

Meh.🫤

I don’t even where to begin with me critique of this book. This book had me so frustrated! The way the MC just sat back and took verbal beatdowns from the FMC, and how he just acquiesced to all her foolishness was agin so frustrating. If someone keeps something so precious from me for 5 years and then has the nerve to have an attitude and make me beg for what’s rightfully mine??? This story was way too one sided for me, and there’s nothing fun about turning an MC into a spineless clown. So but this is a one and done delete for me.

When the child is smarter than the parents!

This little girl, Sophia, was so much more smarter and braver than her parents Zuri and Alessandro. It was so confusing because even though the author listed her dob as January 2022, her age was listed as 5, then 3.75 then 4. Maybe the author needed to properly review her book before publishing as a lot of these independent authors neglect to do. Very good story but frustrating to read because of a lot of inconsistencies with ages, dates and other details.

Timeline

I really enjoyed this book. However, the timelines were off; Sophia was initially three and three quarters but then she was five years old. Zuri had Sophia at 29 years old but five years later they were 35. It’s frustrating when you’re enjoying a storyline but the years don’t add up. Other than the author not keeping track of the timeline, I really liked Alessandro. He always kept his cool and he knew what he wanted. I respected Zuri and her legal acumen but I questioned her decision to keep Sophia a secret from her father. All in all, a good read.

Objection Daddy!

Really enjoyed the storytelling. Seriously needs consistency in Sophia age, she went from 5 yrs old to 3 yrs and 6 months to 7 years old! Five years later Sophia, Luciano & Marco are all 5 yrs old and the twins play little league. Please someone proof and keep consistency with the children’s age! It would be a fantastic read of Zuri and Alessandro if Sophia talked less 😍😍

I wanted to love this book, especially with it being a Black female lead. But being 29 and not having a father figure in your life isn’t a good enough excuse to hide someones kid from their father. I hated the portrayal of broken homes, especially with a single black mother. I hated the way Alex had to grovel back just to be in his daughter’s life and what feels like a lack of remorse and consequence from the mother for even doing that. Had to DNF at 56%, just couldn’t read anymore of this.

Go Zuri & Sophia

I just love this book. It was so good. It had a rough beginning kind of felt bad for poor Zuri, but when push came to a shove, she came through and that little Sophia cutest little thing in the world. I’m glad they finally made it a happy family, and I love the family of Alexandro. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Good story

The overall story was good but there are some editing errors that I found distracting. They created their daughter five years previously but Sophia's age would change from her being three and a half to five years old. The beginning of the book was kind of slow but picked up one Alex found about their baby. Wasn't a bad book the second half made it worth the time.

entertaining

Overall it was a good, but I was confused with Sophia‘s age because in the beginning she said she was 3 3/4 years old but in the middle of the story she’s now five years old. At the end the grandmother stated 3 grandsons were enough and she needed a girl. It was very confusing with the children’s age and gender so it was hard to figure that part out.

Excellent Read

I truly enjoy this book. Alessandro and Zuri were competitive in almost everything. Zurich keeping his child a secret even after they meet up again was a bit cruel. She should have opened up sooner. They were both still deeply in love and she was fighting it. Then out of the blue an ex crazy girlfriend appears... A must read!!!

Disappointed

Storyline was interesting but the author didn’t keep the information correct. First Sophia is 5 years old born in 2022but then she’s 3 nearly 4 and then she’s 5 years old during the press conference. It could have been a good read.

Secret Baby

This was a fast paced book, Zuri is a cut throat lawyer raising her five year old daughter, Alessandro is also a lawyer, both have been rivals in the court room, five years ago they hooked up & Zuri has been keeping a secret from him.

💖💖💖💖

I loved Alex and Zuri story despite Zuri not telling about Sophia years. The fact that his family welcomed Zuri and Sophia with open arms was so heartwarming. I think Sophia needs her own book perhaps while she's in college.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing was good and the writing was well done. The only thing I found frustrating was the inconsistent aging of the daughter but otherwise would definitely recommend this book.

Great story. Loved Sophia

If only Sophia would have been born talking she would have saved all the drama. Alex and Zuri were made for each other. Loved it.
