The Once and Never Throne

Rate this book
Neve Ashford never intended to return to the world she fought so hard to escape. But she’s determined not to let anyone dictate her fate again.

Ripped through time and trapped between the past and the present, Neve unravels secrets long buried—about her bloodline, her power, and the prophecy that has haunted Camelot for centuries. But returning to Arthur’s side means walking straight into the war consuming his court. The throne is crumbling. Each revelation pushes Neve closer to the edge of ruin. And in the shadows, an enemy long through dead has risen again.

As dangerous alliances fracture and old oaths shatter, Neve and Arthur find themselves fighting not just for each other, but for the survival of everything their love was never meant to endure.

In a world where trust is a luxury and love is a weapon, the battle for Camelot has only just begun.

“How long has it been, Arthur?”
“Fae don’t measure time the same way humans do, Wren,” I say, swallowing hard.  She lifts her head, eyes narrowing, letting me know she’s in no mood for my usual games.  I sigh heavily, closing my eyes as the number she seeks is etched into the inside of my skull.
“62 days, 14 hours, 31 minutes, 14 seconds.” My voice breaks. “And I have counted every single one.”

Oh. My. Word.
Absolutely obsessed. This book made me feel a million emotions all at once and then ripped my heart out. Don’t think I will get it back until I get my hands on book 3.

It was everything I was hoping it would be and more.

Could. Not. Put. It. Down.

Lady Grim did it again and I cannot wait to see where the story continues too.

The Once and Never Throne is an intense, fast-paced follow-up to The Once and Never King that wastes no time picking up where we left off. At under 200 pages, it is astonishing how much happens, yet Lady Grim keeps the momentum steady while delivering plenty of twists and story progression.

I loved that Neve’s journey back to Camelot does not drag on. Her reunion with Arthur is filled with intensity and unspoken truths, complicated choices, and the connection they have unknowingly had well before the events of this book. The dual POV works beautifully here, giving us Arthur’s unraveling in Neve’s absence alongside Neve’s own challenges and revelations.

The magic system, particularly Neve’s hidden ability, is such a highlight. We get more glimpses of the political intrigue, fae traditions, and the history binding these characters together. There is a constant push-pull between duty, prophecy, and the pull of their connection, and the romance absolutely delivers: passionate, vulnerable, and shaped by the new truths they learn about each other.

Lady Grim’s pacing is relentless, but it works. Every chapter raises the stakes, and the closing stretch is a whirlwind of revelations, high-risk confrontations, and gut-punch moments. It left me desperate for the next book.

If you enjoyed the blend of romance, magic, and myth in the first installment, this one turns all of it up several notches. The world building is immaculate, the revelations are game changing, and the cliffhanger is absolutely gut wrenching. Lucky for us, Lady Grim fully plans on giving us the last two books before the end of the year.

I am at a loss. The Once And Never Throne picks up immediately where The Once And Never King leaves off making it amazing for back to back reading since there is no time jump. The story flows so well and we get more insight into… well… everything.. I only fell deeper in love with Artorius (Arthur) I love being able to watch all the characters grow and change through their stories and from their POVs. If these aren’t on your TBR they should be❤️

Lady Grim does it yet again with another spectacular book! It will hit you with all the feels, you'll cry, you'll laugh, you'll want to throw your book, but oh my is it worth it.

Be prepared to have Arthur become your number one book boyfriend, no, book husband. Hands down my feelings for that man have only increased.

Book 3 can't come fast enough!

This book picked up the pieces of my broken heart left smoldering from The Once And Never King, sloppily stitched them back together, and then dropped a nuclear bomb on them! I was hoping for a safe reconnection between Arthur & Wren and instead I got b!tch slapped with the most heart wrenching cliffhanger in the history of ever! No joke, it ranked right up there with “It’s yours now,” in the way it broke my heart.

This story has all of the makings of a phenomenal fantasy romance! There’s political intrigue, soul crushing angst, all the delicious spice, and plot twists galore! Just as soon as you think you have a grasp on where things are going, you’re immediately derailed by another curveball you weren’t expecting! It’s honestly the equivalent a the most outrageous roller coaster you can imagine; only one that is meant solely for your emotions. Be sure to what out for the gut wrenching cliffhanger at the end! It’s a doozy.

As someone who has always loved tales of King Arthur and Guinevere, having that story retold in a fantasy setting is nothing short of perfection for me. Add to that the way Lady Grim writes these characters and it’s an easy chefs kiss! I was fortunate enough to be a beta reader for the first book and an alpha reader for this one and they just continue to get better. Despite the hellacious heartbreak the end of this book caused me, I can’t wait to see where this story goes next.

I just can't even get over the fact that it's taken me ALL DAY to be able to even formulate words.
She crafted yet another masterpiece around this fantastically dark world of Arthur and Neve. Pick up from where their journey ended and be prepared to buckle up. Not only is the world wonderfully built, you think it will be one thing and then BAM SHE COMES OUT OF LEFT FIELD and hits you with something entirely different. I was engrossed into the story and consumed everything I could. By the end..... I wasn't even sure what to do besides drop into her DMs.

Brace your heart, hold your tissue box, get ready for the awkward laughs, and dive into The Once and Never Throne. If you haven't started their first part of the journey jump into The Once and Never King! I personally don't think you will regret it.

Just remember buckle up, and it's the scenic route. :)

*I was given this book as an eArc but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*

It’s very fast pasted and confusing at the beginning. A lot of going on, like all of a sudden she’s jumping between time and realms. When she finally meets up with Arthur, how? he literally just said he was gonna stay at the castle and now he’s outside and it’s like they already knew she was coming even though they didn’t. Also, Arthur feels like a completely different character, I like his all knowing, snarky morally grey character in the first book but this one he’s just a sap. And one second Wren is all like calm down Arthur everything is fine and then the next she’s having a freak out. It’s just hard to wrap my head around. The ending felt a bit rushed too, a whole war done in the last 3 chapters. That ending though, damn, you got me. I’m still very much intrigued to see what happens next. Would love more of the side characters to be in it.

5 (thousand) stars for The Once and Never Throne! (an alpha read)

Lady Grim’s The Once and Never Throne is a breathtaking early draft that outshines many polished novels. Read in batches, each gripping chapter left reeling along with Neve as she is repeatedly ripped through time without knowing when or where she will land. With new secondary characters, like a cunning antagonist with a hidden identity, increase the tension and danger, even as the epic love story deepens with heart-wrenching intensity. Packed with action, secrets, and wild twists, the story culminates in an ending left me desperate for book three –it can NOT end here! (It won’t, that’s what the little dragon told me.)

Lady Grim’s storytelling is destined to make her a household name, and this series has all the makings of a stunning screen adaptation. If you love epic romantasy like Holly Black you should read The Once and Never King and get ready for this new romantasy bomb to drop on your heart!

Wow, I didn't think Neve and Arthur's story could get any better, but I was wrong! Hang on to your hats because this one's just as fast-paced as the first.

The Once and Never Throne picks up with book one left off, and we find Neve back in the human world, questioning her reality. She needs to find a way back to Arthur, and the only way to do that is to go back to where it all began.

Neve and Arthur are fated to be together and to right the wrongs that Merlin wrecked on Camelot. To do that, they must learn about the past and fight to change the future.

Neve, Arthur, Lazriel, Isolde, and Percival have stolen my heart. I cannot wait for the next installment in The Once and Never series!

Quotes:

"...I chose her safety over my happiness, and I would do it again."

Lies. All of it. I wouldn't send her away if given another chance. I would fall at her feet, beg her to stay, and fight like hell to keep her safe.

"History is the world's most elaborate lie, dear Neve. And we are the poor fools tasked with telling its truth."

I no longer with to participate in a world where she is not present. It is simply too hard.

This is just a small portion of the memorable passages I highlighted, but I'll leave it to you to find the rest.

This series needs more recognition! Go, read it now!

I am utterly wrecked. This book left me speechless in the best ways and I honestly don’t know how I will ever recover. Lady Grimm has risen the bar again. She is such an unrealistic expectation for every other book I will ever read.

This is book 2 in Neve and Arthur’s journey. And wow, she really did not hold back in this book. Be ready to have your heart ripped out stitched back up, and then ripped out again. The story picks right up where it left off, and somehow she turned up the intensity even more

You can feel every ounce of their pain. Their love. It leaps right off the pages. There is only been three other authors that have been able to quiet my brain while I’m reading. And she is one of them. This is so beautifully written. And now I’m going to annoy her until she gives me book 3.

Well. That happened.

I would like to personally thank Lady Grim for completely ruining me tonight.

The Once and Never Throne is a very quick read, quite possibly because I refused to put it down. Literally, I fell asleep cradling my Kindle. I devoured this and I'm completely left wanting more.

Fast paced, full of angst, a few really lovely, happy moments, and then BAM, Lady Grim hits you with that ending that will likely leave you cursing her name and salivating for book three.

There's not much more I can say about this. Just read it.

Unless you don't want to be completely shattered and left on a tragically irreparable book hangover. And yes, that's one of the highest compliments I can give.

Book 2 of Lady Grim’s The Once and Never series did not disappoint! Building off the first book in intensity, mystery and passion, this book had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

Neve and Arthur’s relationship is tested in ways that start to make them both unravel. With secrets of their connection and memory loss, they have to piece together their past before they can secure their future.

With personal challenges and an intimidating villian, The Once and Never Throne is packed full of action, heart wrenching moments and renewed connections. With just the right amount of spice🔥, this is a must read!

I just.. this one. I loved it. I truly did. But in such a morbid way. This book picks up right where we left off in book one and it truly just keeps you on the edge of your seat. I thought I knew where we were going in this one but I was so terribly wrong. We get to see some characters playing different roles in this one and it was truly a delight. However, I fear this might keep me up at night thinking about until we get book three. This series is one that I’ll keep coming back to over and over.

My first ever ARC book review… 🥰 ‘The Once and Never Throne’ – Book 2. This book had me in a happy little reading trance. LOVE LOVE. Couldn’t put it down.
Way spicier than Book 1, but nothing too wild. Just enough to blush and smile at your book like a total goof.
The drama and plot twists kept me entertained and emotionally unprepared (in the best way).
Super easy to read, addictive, and full of heart.
Highly recommend for anyone craving a fun, flirty take on Arthurian legend.

THAT CLIFFHANGER?!?!?!?! 😭😭😭
I legit could NOT sleep. I went through an entire box of tissues and yelled at my Kindle like it could answer me all while trying not to wake the kids. LADY GRIM…WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US?!

This is book two in The Once and Never series and it absolutely did not disappoint. If you love King Arthur retellings that’s darker, spicier, and with twists, you need this book in your life.

A feral King Arthur for his Queen? YES PLEASE 🥵🔥
