I first learned to crochet over 50 years ago and was very keen on it, but after a few years my life got busier so set it aside in favor of other things such a as family, career, etc. Over the year I've done lots of other "crafty things like sewing clothes for myself and my children, embroidery, and knitting. But now that I want to crochet I have found that I've forgotten how I've looked at other books but the language was clumsy and the illustrations or photos were not that helpful for me. This book while not perfect , does excel in both explanations and diagrams or illustrations. Not only can I simply pick up a book and just start, but if I get stuck the book is right here to look it up! Plus, it came to me from Kindle Unlimited so I got it for free! And if I decide to keep it forever in my library the cost is very reasonable.
I got this book to see if there r n e new stitches. I've been crocheting n knitting n tatting for over 50 years. This book is great for beginners. Just look at diagrams n GO SLOW! The whole idea of crocheting is for relaxing. As u look thru the internet u will see CAL (crochet-a-long) projects. B sure u know ur stitches b4 trying these bcuz u will b sucked into feeling like u have to go fast n have to keep up with everyone else n u lose the relaxation aspect of crocheting. Learn by using worsted weight yarn so u can see ur stitches n can easily frog (rip out ur work) incase of a mistake. U can do it n this is the perfect book to begin ur journey into the world of crocheting!!
I've been a knitter since I took an after school class in the 5th grade and I'm so glad that class was offered. While knitting has given me years of enjoyment I've developed some arthritis which makes it difficult to continue the hobby. Crochet has come to the rescue. To be honest I find crocheting much more relaxing. Emma Brown has written a wonderful book for the absolute beginner. Everything is explained patiently and thoroughly. This kindle book has links for video explanations if needed. Thanks Emma!
Wow this was really well written. So easy to understand. I knew some crochet, but this have me so much more. Opened up the world of crochet. Thank you goes to the author. So simple a child can understand at least some of the basics.
An excellent step by step primer for the new crocheter (like me). At first I was bothered with the print only instructions because I knew it could lead to problems. What I loved is she has linked You-Tube videos in the ebook version of the book.
There are a couple of awful patterns given the right project, but the instructions are vague and, IMO, not at all clear enough for the beginner. If you're new to crochet, I would suggest learning from a different source.
Liked that basic abbreviations explained for patterns and shows the basic stitches clearly. It doesn't dictate 'Musts' keeps the possibilities for creativity/ freedom, open.
This a nice little book on the basic crochet techniques and stitches for beginners. It includes YouTube how-to video links and a glossary of common terms.
Don't even pick this up if you think you'll get the pretty wave pattern. Not a chance. Very disappointed. There's some reasonable beginner info....but the patterns weren't so much for me. Oh well.
Contrary to the cover pattern, which I was looking for, there is no ripple pattern in this book... A few other types of patterns to teach basic stitches, but nothing I haven't seen before. It appears these people cut and paste from other pattern books then add their own commentary. Buyer beware.
I picked up this book when I decided I wanted to try crocheting again and couldn't remember even the most basic tips. It promised to be "quick and easy" for beginners, and it was. I was able to follow the explanations and illustrations to remember the crochet stitches I already knew and learn some new ones, too.
One helpful aspect of this book is that the author links to videos that show different crochet stitches. Sometimes you just have to see them in action, so the videos were really helpful.
I also liked the patterns at the back. There's several for beginners that I think I could tackle easily, but there are also some mid-level and advanced for when I get back into practice and am ready to try harder crochet patterns.
I keep wishing I'd had this book when I first taught myself to crochet. It would have made it a lot easier to learn!
The book didn't have enough information in it for it to be beginners book. I wish it had more patterns some of the pattern was interesting. I think I'm gonna try the rectangular box for my niece.
