The Rockville Raptors are famous for three wild plays, intense rivalries, and Rebel; their feathered, clawed and attitude-packed mascot.
The team’s making a big comeback with fresh sponsors, a new brand, and Adam, the optimistic new mascot handler. To him, it’s just a fun gig in a foam suit. But the old handler tries to warn him, Rebel isn't just a costume.
Rebel I’ve spent years under the lights with Sam, and now he’s retiring, leaving me with promises that his replacement will be just as great. Then Adam shows nervous, charming, completely unprepared. And suddenly, I don’t just want a handler. I want him.
Adam This job was supposed to be easy. Now I’m juggling team drama, an ex-handler who won’t back off, and a raptor who’s way too real, and way too into me.
Why am I falling for a feathered nightmare?
Raptors and Rebounds is book two of Mascot Matchups—a standalone novella series about sentient mascots. This book is intended for audiences 18 years and over. It contains intimate relations between a sentient mascot and his human handler.
Biblio Barbie is a Colorado native, monster lover, and purveyor of spicy, slightly unhinged romance. When she’s not writing about sentient mascots or pickles with passion, she’s probably curled up with her husband, an iced tea, and an idea that definitely shouldn’t be allowed to become a book, but will. Author of Howls and Home Runs and Gagged by the Gherkin, Biblio Barbie is here to make you laugh, blush, and question your grocery list.
Catch her on Instagram @biblio.barbie where she’s usually rating books with bizarre meters, chatting about Shrek, thirsting over monsters, and probably... hot dogs. Look, we don’t ask questions.
If you’re looking for a ✨sentient mascot✨ to fall in love with, Rebel is the one for you. Except he’s not for you, he’s for Adam & neither of them wants to share. So… I would just admire safely from a distance.
In Raptors and Rebounds, you will find: 💙 a very bratty bisexual human MMC (Adam) 💚 a big angry prehistoric bird mascot (Raptor) 💙 unique anatomy 💚 mascot mind power (they can feel each others emotions) 💙 tender moments 💚 not so tender moments that are all consensual 💙 pet names 💚 natural death in epilogue 💙 and if you’re here for the 🌶️ - Chapters 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, and 19 are where you wanna be!
Raptor is a beautiful mascot, there’s no denying that. Allow me to help you picture him… “Honestly, he looks really cool now. Even a little menacing. He has a boxy prehistoric snout filled with razor-sharp teeth, his signature green eyes, and long legs with talons that look straight out of a Jurassic Park movie. A combination of bold feathers and green scaly skin. A significant change from his previous tan and brown.” I think I would definitely be lured in by that color scheme… like a female bird drawn to a male with his bright feathers.
Adam is hoping to just settle into his new job, and honestly continue his hookups that he has. But he’s not expecting this wild handbook for his new job to allude to the fact that this mascot… could have a personality? Little does he know that come first day of training, he’ll get much more than a personality introduction.
Adam and Rebel click instantly, the chemistry is undeniable. Adam quickly realizes that instead of questioning the “how”, he just wants to love and feel Rebel for as long as he can. “Yours. What does that even mean… for us? For me?”
In between Rebel interrupting Adam having a hookup and them working, chaos starts to ensue. A rival team decides it’s in their best interest to steal Rebels mascot, and that’s not a good choice. Adam quickly jumps to his rescue, utilizing a resource that might not be the best first choice, and saves his raptor. However… Rebels absence was noticed and Adam is faced with losing his job.
But what good is a romance without a happy ending? I won’t spoil the ending for y’all because it’s truly so beautiful.
Biblio Barbie lured me in with this one, and I don’t think I’ll ever come back out. Before I close out my review, I’ll share some quotes I enjoyed from the book just like I always do for y’all!
✨”Let’s get moving, my sweet little prey. You still have a lot to learn.” ✨”I wouldn’t hurt you unless you liked pain with your pleasure, Sweet Prey.” ✨”That’s it. Predator. My Sweet Prey and his Predator.” ✨”Clever boy.” (THIS ONE TOOK ME OUT Y’ALL) ✨”Adam. What a strong name. The Hebrew version means Earth.” “Earth.” I echo back. “Until we meet our end and our bodies settle back into the earth.” She whispers with a knowing smile as my jaw gapes open.
This amazingly bizarre creation is 100% a buzzer beater (if you catch my drift!)
With sexy scenes and plenty of passion, Raptors and Rebounds is one of my favorite laugh out loud sentient smut books ever! Having has a previous life as a mascot I could, um, feel this book a little too much.
The story spotlights Rebel, the loveable Rockville Raptors mascot, and Adam—his hulking, slightly bewildered handler. What begins as a series of meet-and-greets and halftime dunk-offs quickly becomes something far more meaningful.
Rebel and Adam navigate the chaotic world of hoops, stadium shenanigans, and fandom madness. But behind the foam-suited high-fives and crowd-pleasing routines, a bromance blossoms. It’s warm, weird, and unapologetically affectionate.
I was so excited to read this one and am so glad I got the chance to preview this SLAM DUNK!
✨✨ARC REVIEW✨✨ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I can always expect the unexpected with Biblio Barbie. I remember when I got Howls and Home Runs from a SYKD event I dove in not realizing it was a sentient mascot romance, don’t ask me how I’m so dumb, but I loved every single second of it. I expected to love this book and was pleasantly correct! I loved how the Rebel (our sentient Raptor mascot) had a previous handler who knew he was sentient and paid no mind and our MMC Adam comes in a freaks out a little but immediately warms up to Rebel (in so many ways than just one 😉) The romance between these two was so sweet! I loved the ending of this book it was super sappy and gave me some feels. I am also foaming at the mouth for the next book already from the teaser at the end. Thank you Biblio Barbie for trusting me with your book baby! I squealed with delight when this arc hit my inbox! If this review piqued your interest or if the cover tantalized you please go snag this book it’s such a great time!
Biblio Barbie never fails to make me smile and laugh with her books!! This is book two in the Mascot Matchups series, and I loved the differences between the two books.
This one jumps right into the spice (I’m not mad about it 😏) and I loved how Rebel had such strong instincts. I appreciated Sam’s role in this story, and it was also really fun learning more about the suit maker!
If you’re looking for a wild, spicy, and surprisingly emotional novella, grab this series!
This book was so freaking cute and fun! I love this series and find it so unique. The sentient mascots gaining feelings learning through and with their handlers is so cool.
I love how possession and "vicious" Rebel was! He was absolutely a raptor and when he fell, he fell first and hard. Adam was so good for him and it was sweet how well he cared for him! The spice was wild and frequent in stolen moments that were perfect 🥵
I also cannot handle how she ends these books 🥹 no spoilers, but damn the endings always get me.
Danelle has a way of writing something seemingly so silly but still makes me cry at the end. This book was so fun and funny and sweet. This is book two in the Mascot Matchup series and we got to learn a little more about the magic behind the mascots 👀 I can’t wait for more!
“Let’s get moving, my sweet little prey. You still have a lot to learn.”
“Being yours… that was the best part.”
Read this if you enjoy: 💚 “Clever boy” 🏀 MM 💚 Grumpy mascot/himbo human 🏀 A wild ride
Raptors and Rebounds was creative and unhinged. This was a fun, bratty, spicy and quirky good time with lots of heart and tender moments. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series. Also, I absolutely love the idea of the Suit Maker, and would read a full book dedicated to how they became a fairy godmother dropout.
These mascots are something else! Rebel and Adam are a match make in heaven, Adam getting the shock of his life when he experiences Rebel for the first time but very quickly changes to something else! I loved everything about this and the little insight to the suit maker.. I can't wait to see what we get next!
Biblio Barbie always writes such fun spicy books ! 🤩 I loved the characters in this one and there were so many LOL moments. I loved the first book in this series and now this one so I can’t wait for the next!
I loved snarky and feisty Rebel!!! The whole idea of the series is just so wild and fun! Thank you for the ARC! It was cute and cozy and made me smile!
I can never look at mascots the same way again and I’m ok with that. I’m in love how we see the dynamic with Raptor’s first handler, Sam and then how it’s drastically different with his new handler, Adam.
What I appreciate most is we get more insight on the seamstress. I know she’s a side character and not too big to the story, but I’m in love with her and her love for helping mascots with what they want to feel comfortable.
*I need more mascots from this series!!!

The way Author Biblio Barbie manages to thread together ( no pun intended) these incredible stories is absolutely fascinating!
Not once have I ever thought I would find a team's mascot attractive...but this Author is like challenge accepted!
This time in the series we get a little taste of how these beloved mascots become so special and unique.
We get this very wholesome story of a mascot and its handler...their relationship and their accomplishments...it's all very sweet and loving. The ending of one journey and the beginning of something new, with someone new.
And then we're abruptly thrown into this new found desire. It's raw. It's primal. And it's HOT!
And then the slippery slide of this shouldn't be so hot ensues. But it is.
These two have such an attraction that theres absolutely no chance of denying it or fighting it.
There's always twists and turns that you never see coming with this author!
That's what always makes her books pack such a punch! Well that and the fact that they will have you fanning yourself!
And of course we get a little sneak peek of what's to come next in this series and to say that I'm excited is an absolute understatement!
What starts with a new mascot gig turns into something hilariously unexpected in Raptors and Rebounds. Rebel, the Rockville Raptors’ feathered icon with attitude to spare, meets Adam, a rookie handler who thinks he’s just stepping into a foam suit job. What follows is equal parts chaotic sports energy, sharp banter, and an oddly sweet connection.
The concept is undeniably wild, but it works because Rebel is written with so much personality, he's snarky, dramatic, possessive, and impossible not to root for. Adam’s mix of confusion and determination makes their dynamic even funnier.
It’s quirky, steamy, and blends sports shenanigans with a romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously. A great pick if you like your stories offbeat, playful, and just a little (or a lot) outrageous.
Thank you to the author for an advance copy of this book.
How can so much happen is so few words!? I felt so many different emotions in a very short period of time. If you told me I would be getting teary eyed over a raptor mascot a year ago, I would've laughed in your face. But here I am wanting my own Rebel. (He would make a fabulous plushie!?)
I love how sassy and possessive Rebel was over Adam. He is definitely Dom vibes. Him calling Adam his "sweet prey" made me swoon. These two truly have a strong connection. Its almost fated mates level 😏. And holy holy they are hot. So many options 😉
This book also had many LOL moments. And the Jurrasic park reference was 🤌
We got a sneak peak at the next one in the line up and I need it yesterday!?
Why was I getting weepy over a mascot suit love story?! Because Biblio Barbie has once again written a wonderful, if not unorthodox, sweet love story.
Adam and Rebel are a match made in the locker room and watching them get to know each other (as well as each other's sometimes peculiar anatomy...Rebel) was delightful.
I am impressed by the depth Barbie was able to add to the characters. The story was so good and the conflict was creative and done well.
Please be warned, you will get emotionally attached to Adam and Rebel and the epilogue will probably make you tear up.
If you're looking for a fun and surprisingly deep and sweet mascot romance, I can't recommend this one enough!
Bible Barbie has made a slam dunk yet again!! Little more on the emotional side, but such a fun read! Adam and Rebel are so adorable together… even if one of them is a scaly raptor mascot with feathers 😂
I received an early copy, all opinions are my own.
