The first reminded me of an opera I'd seen forty years ago (almost to the day). I had to look it up: Gianni Schicchi, by Puccini.
The servant, impersonating the rich old man on his deathbed, bequeaths himself approximately half the estate. And when the heir upbraids him, he says half is his fair share, considering... And he's kind of right.
Anyway, glad I read it. Would have read it sooner if I'd known I'd like it this much.
