The Ilk have returned after 200 years, and the world is unprepared.
Gravely weakened, Ina battles for survival in a strange and hostile land. Alexios, captured by the enemy, must fight to preserve his soul. Fay and Ruadh try to discover where the Ilk are being spawned.
Meanwhile, war is spreading in the north, with the Vycenian army preparing to intervene in the long-running civil conflict raging in the neighboring kingdom of Tarsis. The Lumin priesthood leads the charge, keen to stamp out the growing worship of the horned war god, Farax. But the weaver mages of the Spire of Arindel have their own plans, the acting First Weaver, Danial Thane, keen to cement his power over the Spire and beyond.
Perfect for fans of Robert Jordan, Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson, John Gwynne, and Ryan Cahill.
4.5 ⭐️ a FANTASTICAL Masterpiece. I actually could only read a few chapters at a time because there is so much to take in, it’s so clever, every word is so well thought out, so intensely deeply divine. Wow. I read that the author has always dreamed of writing an epic fantasy series and by Chel did she do it 👏 I want to meet a damn Isaur 😮 🐉
El McInerney has done it again with another great read in the unravelling series! I have been very lucky to be given the chance to be an E-ARC reader and here is my feedback.
I love how again the chapters are sharing each characters progress in their adventures across the lands! With some new characters entering into the book also, with how they are slowly getting more and more closer at how they are all involved in the upcoming war with the Ilk and it truly is starting to unravel.
I must admit it is a bit of a slow burner and not much action in this book compared to the first book soulstealer and the prequel overlord but i have no doubt judging by the end of this book the next is going to be a whirlwind!
Again I have been so lucky to recieve an ARC of this book and I am very greatful.
This was a great read and I love the way the characters have their own chapters. With this we can follow their journey and struggles through the book, with some new characters getting their own chapters as well.
I find this series very interesting and I can't wait to find out what is next for them all. There is less action in this book than in the previous, but I also did not mind that at all. With the ending being like it was, the next book will surely pick up the pace and I believe there will be a lot of action.
I highly recommend this book and I can not wait to read the next one.
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish! It's my favourite in this series so far! Each character's POV is so developed and all feel very different from each other, making them feel like real people! I love how the story is dark enough to show the true horrors of war, without being unnecessarily dark. I found it fascinating to see how religion influences the characters thought processes and decisions as well. This book had me on tenterhooks the whole way through, and due to how unique the story is, I didn't have a clue what was going to happen next! Loved it!
I received this book as an E-ARC and I'm very grateful for it. The world-building is very immersive, and the plot is filled with unexpected twists that keep you on their toes. While the pacing is generally good, there are a few moments where the story slows down a bit, but overall, it's an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. The writing style is strong, with enough action and emotional moments to make you care about the stakes. Compared to book 1 Soul Stealer where I did not completely enjoy each chapter being a different POV this time I really did enjoy it as it felt like each POV flowed together really well.
