When world-class chef Jules Lemar is found dead in his own home, detectives quickly rule out natural causes. A livid bruise encircling his neck leaves little doubt that he was murdered. What remains unclear is how — and why.
Detective Inspector George Larson and his team are confronted with a scene that offers few answers. There are no signs of a struggle, every door and window is locked, and no murder weapon can be found. With the evidence leading nowhere, the investigation stalls.
It is only when the team begins to peel back the layers of Lemar’s past that the case takes an unexpected turn. Beneath the public image of a celebrated chef lies a history that drags the investigation into uncharted territory — and toward a truth darker than any of them anticipated.
When Blood Runs Dry is the unputdownable sixth book in Jack Cartwright’s bestselling Deadly Wolds mystery series. Fans of Jack Cartwright also enjoy books by JM Dalgliesh, LJ Ross, Ann Cleeves, JD Kirk, and Simon McCleave.
Phew, this one was an emotional journey with plenty of twists and turns.
There's certainly mystery surrounding the investigation where a famous chef is found dead and the puzzle begins.
George is a complex but likeable character, one that is determined to root out the truth. Ivy is rather more selfish but does her job well...as does the rest of the team.
Well-written, engaging, entertaining and enjoyable, if not for the faint of heart.
expect the unexpected and get even more!!! George and Ivy lead the team looking at the murder of a celebrated chef, as usual with their cases, we are led firstbin one direction then another .... until we 'know who the culprit is!' ONLY to find it isn't who we are led to believe! Jack puts us in the minds of George, Ivy and the rest so WE are trying to follow the clues and solve the murder. this was a book filled with sadness for the victims, worries for the team members and a very emotional few pages towards the end, before giving us that final twist. Jack Cartwright has put his heart and soul into this masterpiece of writing ✍️ its worth 20🌟 not just 5, an absolutely brilliant book 👏
Another great read! So many twists and turns that kept you guessing right to the end. George and Ivy and the team struggle to put the clues together as it seems one investigation leaks into a previous one. The memory of George's wife Grace comes to the fore in this as George remembers the happy times he had with his wife before her death. Quite emotional at the end. I hope this isn't the end for DI Larson.
I was sad to realise this was the last in the series but boy what an ending! Jack Cartwright it’s going to take me a while to recover as I sobbed my way through the final pages ! I’m not going to spoil it by posting what happened! If you’re discovering this Author for the first time I can highly recommend all his books ! Ps it’s not the first time he has made me cry over one of his books !
I have now read every book this author has written. I enjoyed them all but this one surpassed them all. Where these characters will go on his next book I have no idea, but I know I will be reading it with assured pleasure.
Always enjoy Jack Cartwright's books. I used to rush through them to find out the truth, who did it & why. I slowed down with this book; savouring every word not wanting it to finish.
Bloody brilliant I am 82 years old and couldn't put this book down. I was up half the night finishing it. Jack? You are brilliant thank you and please keep writing. All the very best Pete T-C
