You Better Believe I'm Gonna Talk About It

Rate this book
From the New York Times bestselling author and breakout star of The Traitors comes the first memoir from beloved actress, Housewife, and pop culture icon, Lisa Rinna. From her career, to her personal life, she's spilling ALL the tea! If she’s experienced it... you better believe she’s gonna talk about it!

“This mouth has gotten me in so much trouble.” —Lisa Rinna

For decades, Lisa Rinna has been captivating audiences—whether as a soap opera icon, reality TV powerhouse, fearless social media provocateur or slaying in haute couture down the catwalks of Paris. But even though she’s always said it like she means it, there’s still so much more to the woman whose lips launched a thousand memes.

In You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It, Lisa peels back the curtain on her rollercoaster career and her unapologetic approach to life, dishing on the highs, the lows, and the “did-she-really-just-say-that?” moments that made her a household name. Yes, she’s spilling all the tea from the soundstages of Days of Our Lives to the drama of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but she’s also opening up about what it means to grow older in an industry obsessed with youth, the lessons she’s learned about reinvention, parenting a daughter with a chronic illness, keeping her well-documented marriage alive and healthy, and being forced to grieve in public after the loss of her mother and beloved Beverly Hills fan favorite, Lois.
Bold, brash, refreshingly honest, and told with her signature wit and candor, You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It is the story of a woman who understands that you go the furthest by playing by your own rules. It’s the story of a woman who realizes aging is just a chance at a new chapter. It’s the story of a Hollywood icon who refuses to let the world script her story for her. And she’s owning every bit of it, baby!

Barnes and Noble had a copy out early and they sold it to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Easily my favorite Housewife to ever be on the show and the book just proves to me why. Rinna was self-aware enough to give the people exactly what they wanted and to treat it like any other acting gig she ever had. I still to this day miss her and wish Bravo fans hadn’t run her off.

One of the more open celebrity memoirs I’ve ever read, not just about the traumas in her life like others, but she names names and about the juicy BTS stuff that’s always lacking in these things.

When my dad died nine years ago, my mom told me that how we deal with horrible events in our life is the true measure of our character. I’ve kept that in mind, and it has been very useful to me since to see who people truly are.

When Lisa Rinna’s mom died, she went into what seems like an uncontrollable rage that cost her a place on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. While I can sympathize with the grief she experienced and feel bad for her at that, how she handled herself and treated others around her was absolutely horrific. She has no remorse - in fact, she thinks people should’ve allowed her to go on her rampage and not react negatively to her because of it.

This woman absolutely refuses to take any accountability for all the things that go wrong in her life - it’s someone else’s fault, people are nasty and mean to her for no reason, etc. A bunch of “Karens” got her QVC contract cancelled. She thinks she’s a “threat” to people (particularly women) in the business world and that’s why they refuse to work with her. She takes pride in being an “asshole” (her words), but doesn’t seem to understand that assholes are not well liked.

It’s infuriating to read this garbage. She needs to ask for a refund from her ghostwriter because the book itself is poorly written.

Side note: a group of my girlfriends and I are into “trash” TV. Whenever a book like this comes out, we take turns for one of us to actually buy the thing and then pass it around. Unfortunately, it was my turn to buy and be the first to read this absolute disaster of a book.

Lisa Rinna uses this book to shed her villain edit from #RHOBH which I think she does a great job doing. However, the only entertaining parts of the book were when she does spill Housewives tea. I enjoyed it but if you’re looking for more juice than reality tv gossip, you may be disappointed.

I loved this. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is one of my comfort shows. The amount of times I've watched it start to finish is remarkable (some might think concerning) and I was able to picture every scene she described perfectly. It's chaotic and disturbing and fun and cozy.

Lisa Rinna was one of my favorites to watch in the early days but towards her end on the show she became hard to watch at times, however I see that time completely differently now. Learning how much grief she was going through and the utter lack of empathy or care from most of the people she interacted with on the show was heartbreaking. Unless you've gone through that grief, you don't know how debilitating and destructive it is. The rage you can feel for the people close to you is especially isolating and traumatic at times. She was doing the best with what she had in the situation she was in.

The behind the scenes moments shed a big spotlight on iconic episodes and I loved every minute of reading about them. Although when I watch them back and know what exactly is fabricated, I will try and put it out of my mind to act as shocked as possible still. In classic Rinna fashion I did admire her for holding nothing back when it comes to her opinions on former housewives, but the body shaming did not need to be said and was definitely a low blow. Sadly, I think the incredibly interesting stories Rinna shared will be overshadowed by the public due to that comment.

I wasn't expecting to be as inspired as I was by her personal growth after leaving the show but I was filled with inspiration - I could not stop highlighting passages that made me happy to read. She blossomed and found her light after making a terrifying decision for change, I think that is beautiful.

I loved reading all about her authenticity, recklessness, vulnerability, joyfulness and cattiness. Although I think the show needs her most of all right now, she was clear in stating she isn't coming back to RHOBH. I will continue to enjoy listening to her podcast with Harry which is where I truly started to really love and enjoy her.

Your lowest moments really are what change everything.

I believe that once I removed myself of my own volition, my vibration was able to rise again.

Nope, I'm going to do it because I want to see how far I've come.

You attract who you are.

For years, we were kind of in a fog, but lately it seems like we're all coming into the light, and joy has returned to our lives.

A lot of people are more comfortable in conflict because it's the only thing they know.

It's what you do after that, how you continue to move forward.

What other people think about you is none of your business.

Expectation is resentment waiting to happen.

When things are really meant to be, you don't have to force them and you don't have to make them happen.

When nothing seems like it's going right, you never know why in the moment, but the universe will provide the reason in due time.

Change is so scary but I'm living proof that change is good. Very good.

It's such a gratifying thing to move on and not look back.

Yes, I've lived a thousand lives, but I have a thousand ahead of me.

Even when we are wronged, even if life or someone was seemingly unfair to us, we can choose to create strong boundaries or not. We can choose to remove ourselves from the environment or not. But there will always be an extra layer of suffering that comes solely from our minds and our reactions that others are no longer in charge of. Only we, by managing more wisely our own inner worlds, can become free of that suffering.

I am unashamedly a Real Housewives fan. It is entertainment that does not require much critical thinking and offers pure escapism. So when a book lands that is connected to that universe, it immediately piques my interest. Although I grew tired of Lisa Rinna towards the end of her time on the Beverly Hills series, she undeniably made great television. I went into You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It expecting behind the scenes revelations and a peek beyond the fourth wall.

Spoiler alert. We did not really get that.

Each chapter is titled after one of her infamous quotes from the franchise, which is a clever framing device. She uses these lines as a springboard to explore themes from different points in her life. The glimpses into her pre fame years are interesting enough, but what you ultimately get is a short memoir that often feels like a running commentary on how ahead of her time she was or how she was the first to do this, that, or the other.

It is a memoir, so of course it presents one perspective. However, I expected more accountability. Rinna touches on the controversies that have riled fans over the years, but she tends to redirect responsibility elsewhere. While she understandably references the grief of losing her mother, which is deeply personal and significant, there is a sense that too much weight is placed on external circumstances before any meaningful self reflection.

If you are hoping for juicy behind the scenes gossip about the Housewives franchise, this is not that book. Rinna takes swipes at former co stars in a way that reads more bitter than playful. Moments of body shaming a former cast member feel particularly uncomfortable given the long standing rumours about her own relationship with food and the very real struggles her daughter has faced. It comes across as hypocritical and it does not sit well.

The writing style is conversational, which could have worked. Instead, it often feels like listening to someone ramble. She moves from one topic to another without much structure, which disrupts the flow and gives the impression that there was no clear plan for each chapter. That said, her honesty about money, including near losses of her home and failed business ventures, is genuinely compelling. The franchise trades on an image of wealth and gloss, so those moments of vulnerability feel refreshingly real.

Overall, it is not horrendous, but it is not especially enjoyable either. It lacks the bite and salaciousness the title promises and that Lisa Rinna herself built her brand upon. If you are after scandal, you would be better off looking up the most salacious quotes from this book online and saving yourself the time.

Crazy. No notes.

Just kidding, I have notes. I loved the chapter about business. She spoke a lot of truth about the business world and leadership. Loved hearing about her family and her mom.

4⭐️ because Rinna mentioned wanting to lead with kindness a few times, but was horribly unkind to Sutton and Garcelle. AND body shaming someone is so mean, especially right after discussing your daughter’s eating disorder. Doesn’t cast her in a great light.

At the end of the day, it’s Lisa Rinna. She’s someone you love or love to hate.

The audiobook version was recorded by Rinna herself, which makes it better. It was interesting at times but I wasn’t always buying what she was selling when it came to her RHOBH claims. I also found the shopping segments boring for me personally. I did, however, enjoy the segments about her family and her business moves.

“Let’s start with Sutton who is living proof that money can’t buy you taste. I’ll never forget when I had to watch her do a professional fitting with the Dolce and Gabbana people and she came out and I had to pretend that her outfit was cute. That was some of the best acting I’ve ever done. Let’s be clear this isn’t Dolce and Gabbana’s fault. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. I’m not dragging Dolce. I’m happy to drag Sutton. She’s frumpy. There’s no sex appeal about her whatsoever. And she’s got a weird body so god bless her.”

Audiobook: Everything you’d expect from an ex-reality tv star…Entertaining but full of contradictions and she is pretty hypocritical. Saying she was made fun of because of her skin colour growing up is tone deaf and unnecessary + I thought she was harsh on Garcelle.
Completely whackadoodle and I can’t help but love her.

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was really great insight into the bravo machine in an unfiltered way. I really loved her look at grief and how hard that is to navigate as an adult, but also as someone who is on tv and has to work around and through that.

Miss her on the show, but loving this new era.
