A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone

Rate this book
Marrying one of the most powerful men in Miami was supposed to lead to a life of love and happiness for Marissa. Instead, her marriage turned into a war zone, and the love she once clung to turned into a weapon used against her.

Yaseer inherited a financial empire and built his legacy on dominance and discipline. Between raising his daughter and expanding his empire, women have stayed at the bottom of his priority list until the moment he laid eyes on Marissa. His fixation on the wild-eyed beauty is instant, and for a man like Yaseer, wanting something meant owning it completely.

In this Urban Romance standalone, their worlds collide on a crash course with fate. Marissa isn’t looking for another unhinged man to consume her life, but Yaseer isn’t playing fair. He is pulling up, and stepping on every obstacle on his mission to claim her heart.

Chaotic.
I love me an older woman/younger man vibe, so I was going to read this regardless. I’ll admit—I soft DNF’d at first around 55%, but decided to give it another chance. Plot and storyline wise… nothing much changed. Because let’s be real—baby, you knew you were getting with a man who was in love with someone else. Sooooo… what exactly did you expect? Outside of that, I did really enjoy how Yaseer went hard for Marissa—she deserved every bit of that energy. While the story didn’t blow me away, their dynamic had its moments, and Yaseer’s devotion was definitely a highlight.

This was blah to me, not bad but it wasn’t my favorite either like it just lacked a touch of depth for me.

This was a good time! Marissa was a FIRECRACKER for sure. But not without reason. Her husband played in her face for nearly 3 decades. *Spoiler alert* I would have stabbed him too🤣And Yaseer…just touched in the head. It was love at first sight for him, but she ain’t fight him long. Their love story played out super quickly. And while I usually want more relationship building in books, for whatever reason, I didn’t mind them being damn near married after 2 days. I just really enjoyed them together. I loved their banter. I loved the way he loved on her and spoiled her. I loved how strong she was. I loved that even though they had two different parenting styles with their respective children, it never was a source of contention. In addition to the romance, there was some mild drama and action as well. Worse should have happened to her ex husband.

10 outta 10!!!! Chef’s kiss. Top tier. LOVED it. One thing for certain, 2 things for sure THAT man (Yaseer) DID not play about her (Marissa) or their kids and by their I means his and hers. Yassssssssss BIG DADDY!!! Yaseer was a different kinda nigga and everything Marissa needed and deserved.

The fact that Quentin played Marissa and was doing the ish he was doing behind her back was wild behavior. The fact that Marissa didn’t allow him to play in her face or treat her less than she deserved. CLOCK IT!!!!!

Miss Lakia YOU ATE and LEFT NO CRUMBS!!!! You did your big one and I enjoyed this from start to finish. The people who needed to learn lessons or even be unalived got exactly what they deserved and it made my heart happy.

The story was okay. Some parts were difficult to follow and in some parts did not connect closely enough for me. Again, this is my opinion. Check it out first, and then you can decide. 3.5 stars...

From heartbreak to flourishing.....

Ms. Laika, you have a special gift because you tend to pull me in on your urban work of art each and every time. I be hyerfocused turning the pages like a mad woman. This was a masterpiece because I love it when one man thinks he is irreplaceable. Quinton thought he had Marissa for life, and she hit him with an "absolutely not." She may have been raised by a man her uncle at that, but she was most definitely not a slow leak. Once she found out about his extracurricular activities, she took matters into her own hands. As a matter of fact, her hands landed her in the lap of her true love. Yaseer was there to pick up the ball once Quinten fumbled it. He was the man that she needed in her life. He stepped up in a major way for her and the boys. Once someone starts donating body parts that solidify the relationship. You are locked in for life. Marissa went through quite a few valleys before she reached the mountain top. She had support surrounding her through it all because Karina was always there. The bonus kids treated her as their mother. Yaseer was the cherry on the top. God didn't forget about him because his prayer was answered as well.

Ladies and gents, Lakia has done it again. She writes urban like it's silk. It was a plethora of players in this game, but the ultimate prize was awarded. The villains got all the smoke, and it was well earned. I failed to mention Troy on purpose because he was an unwell individual who did not need highlighting. He got everything back ten times worse than he put out. I say all this to motivate others to read. This book will reel you in and hold onto you until the last word. It is a rollercoaster of emotions from heartbreak to flourishing.

Cute InstaLove

I find Lakia's storytelling style very entertaining. She is great at setting a scene in a short period and creating a world through a series of books.
I found this particular story more appealing because of the age range of Yaseer and Marissa. I love seeing characters closer to their middle age figure out life and love after seemingly losing everything. I love the mystery and mob-adjacent subplots because they did a great job of breaking up the romance and keeping it from being too fluffy.
While I was thoroughly entertained by the banter and the ridiculous lengths Yaseer went through to prove his love, I found myself a bit thrown off by the random POV insertion of one character. Although the character does have a solid and intricate role in the book, the perspective was not necessary as that part of the story could've been made more intriguing if one of the three main characters who spoke to the readers from their POV viewed the events via the surveillance camera as the blacking out of the camera would've created great intrigue and an additional layer to the brewing mystery. I also found there were two moments of summarization of the story within the story, which was kind of off-putting.
Those two things kept this from being a perfect read but the story, the relationship between Marissa, Yaseer, and their children, and the character development were all fantastic and I would read more work from Lakia

The beginning was so riveting that I had no choice but to keep reading, but as the story progressed, there were just things here and there that gave pause. By the end, the story kept a fast pace. The author did a great job with characters, and I liked the different dips. The major hangup is that the story worked in pockets. Having Yasser be this unhinged dude worked for me, but he only showed snippets in pockets. Having Marissa be this 40-something mom fighting heartbreak worked for me, but she also was annoying. Her outbursts in certain situations seemed nonsensical for her character. And a woman slapping the dohshit out of a dude for sharing thoughts in a private convo (he mentioned not wanting to sign her son on a phone call he didn't know was being recorded) to showing out in front of Mafia family. I liked having a Black Mafia family rep that worked for me. But I didn't like how some of the rules didn't seem to quite match up or align with what we were told. It built tension but disapated when certain scenes creeper up. The additional characters seemed like a lot since a lot of them really weren't fleshed out, and apparently, we aren't getting more books/info on them. All in all, I'm cool with finishing the read and hope we get to see Vincent's story.

Mama need love too.

Marissa deserved so much better than her husband of 25 years. That man wasn't worth a wooden nickle! He had 3...3 WHOLE OUTSIDE KIDS! Marissa didn't just get her lick back, she came up, showed out, and his outside kids became her bonus babies. To top it off, she gets Yaseen who is a little unhinged and a whole lotta pressure behind her. This man was 100%, ten toes down. Not only about her, but her kids too. He was not phased a bit about Uncle Vincent either. I do wonder what's going on with Unc after Marissa mention he looks stressed. 🤔 Any ole way, Happy Reading Y'all!💋

3.75 🌟

I started saying, Marissa did not need a spin off… Then my mind quickly changed, not much for Marissa but this book space needed Yaseer! His dedication and BDE was 🔥… he had unhinged tendencies but he didn’t over do it, he was just a lover boy who knew exactly who and what he wanted.

Quentin ass was such a disappointment and got exactly shay he deserved… I loved the dynamic of the kids building a relationship with Marissa despite what was going on with her nothing ass husband.

I also enjoyed getting glimpse of Tech from Passenger Princess in this story..

enjoyable read

35+ year old main characters. She’s older than him. Instalove on his part. A literal whirlwind romance. He was literally insane and refused to give up until Marissa gave him play. I was giggling all through this book. It felt a little rushed but still a very enjoyable read.

Awesome read, Yaseer was everything that Marissa needed! unfortunately, she and Quentin truly got together for the wrong reasons! Quentin's inability to stand up to his father cost him a great deal!

Yaseer was serious about Marissa and moved accordingly to have her open her heart. Their kids were the bonus in the relationship!

Great ending!

Loved it!

Marissa was hilarious! I was so happy she stood on business when it came to Quinten. Hopefully there’ll be a story on the children, I need more on Lil Q and Jameera.

Quinten was horrible. I’ve never read about a good Quinten. Yaseer with the BDE. And Marissa was a lil cougar.

I want to start off by stating that Quinton Sr. is a selfish, weak minded, trifling dog. He didn’t redeem himself when he unalived his dad for having Quincy kidnapped and Lil-Q shot because he severely neglected all five of his children. Marissa was right by leaving him for not only cheating on her and producing outside kids but he named two of them the same name as their still born daughter. That added more injury to the insult. Yaseer knew the moment that Marissa slapped him that she was going to be his and he moved with great intention to show her that he was a different breed of man that stood on business. Everything that Quinton Sr. tried to do to Marissa, Yaseer stepped up to the plate and showed both of him that he was that nicca especially when he froze their offshore accounts. I like how Marissa got Yaseer to give Amill some leeway so he wouldn’t push her away. I don’t understand why Marissa didn’t go to her Uncle Vincent in the beginning and tell him that she wanted to divorce Quinton Sr. and why but then again I do because he probably would have unalived Quinton’s whole bloodline including Tech, Cory, and Quori. I like that Tech, Quincy, Quori, Cory, and Lil-Q all have a tight sibling bond despite not growing up together and don’t neither one of them associate with Quinton Sr. I love the fact that Yaseer and Marissa had a little princess Yarissa named after both of her parents. I’m glad that Quincy went pro playing baseball and Q found his niche in the music industry with Yaseer and Jameera’s dad help. I hope we find out in the next book what has Uncle Vincent so stressed. I feel as though it’s a woman who he wants but she’s giving him a hard time because he’s a psychopath cartel business wise and the other cartels know that he eradicates whole bloodlines.

I wanna say Yaseer and Marissa’s story is instalove but technically it’s not because Marissa wasn’t feeling Yaseer initially. She thought he was handsome, but his actions turned her off. Marissa also popped him upside his head a good two times. However when they get together, things between them escalated quickly, and they can’t get enough of each other.

And bruh. Marissa is funny af 😂 Damn near every time she had dialogue I was cracking tf up. Especially when she told Karina (her best friend) about her “men with ugly mamas” theory 🤣 Marissa is also a mom who would do anything for her kids especially to protect them, which is how she ended up meeting Yaseer.

Yaseer had it bad for Marissa immediately. Our good sis was cussing him out from head to toe and back up, and all he could do was fantasize about her and claim her as his wife. Needless to say, Yaseer didn’t play about Marissa and by extension, her kids. He also has a daughter he didn’t play about. I kept forgetting Yaseer wasn’t actually a part of a mafia family because he kept handling business like he was lol. Even Yaseer’s daddy would make comments about how Yaseer thinks he’s a mafia man.

“A Million Boss Kisses” is told in first-person with POVs from Marissa, Yaseer, and Quinten Sr. We also get the POV from Lil Q (one of Marissa’s sons), but it’s only for one chapter.

That being said, when I first started reading this book, I wanted to root for Quinten Sr. sooo bad. His prologue was so heartbreaking. But halfway through chapter one, his fuck-🥷🏾ness was on full display, and I couldn’t fuck with him any more. I do wish we would’ve gotten a POV chapter from Quinten Sr. in the epilogue though. I wanted to know how much he regretted his actions toward Marissa and his kids.

This was a good ass book. Had me up late finishing it. Here I was thinking I was going to get a true love story between Marissa and Quentin, but boy I was wrong lol. Quentin wasn't shit! OMG he was trash af, he should've told Marissa from the start it he wanted a marriage of convenience or something!? I'm proud that she stood on business with leaving him. Like she said was from money so leaving him wasn't the issue. Him naming his other daughter after he and Marissa lost their daughter was SICK!! But I'm glad he got what he deserved at the end; it was truly his karma. Plus, how you not only be a deadbeat to the kids you had with Marissa but also be a damn deadbeat to your other three kids?! Shame. Anyway, with Yasser, I love the way he wanted Marissa DOWN even after she slapped his ass. (Don't play with her kids!) lol even when nervous, she truly let her guard down and let him love her to the fullest. I also love the connection he had with his own daughter as well plus a loving family. (That cheesecake scene was EVERYTHING!!!) lol And Yasser wasn't scared of Quentin whatsoever and I LOVE THAT! Hopefully, we can get an update on Quentin Jr as he taking the MLB by storm and Amill as she tackles being under her dad's thumb. Overall, a great book! And hopefully she'll but it on paperback so I can buy a copy!!

Five thumbs up 👍🏽👍🏿 👍🏾👍🏿👍🏾

Yaseer is a man of his words, who put action behind what he said. He gave it to you straight no chaser so there wouldn't be any confusion. He is a man that loves fully and protects even harder, standing up to whoever behind his. And no doubt about, Marissa was his from the first slap. He was a man on a mission who overly accomplished his goal.

Marissa surprised herself how easily she fell for Yaseer. The love and action he put behind her was new to her. She is a beautiful woman who had to put up with controlling men in the mafia and losing herself. However, when she chose herself, it was the heck with everyone and everythang else. In doing so, she found a love that she's never known and one that she can't do without. And I love that for both of them.

This story provides you with drama, action, and laughter. That cheesecake created magic and wonder and is forever a staple for Yaseer and Marissa. I enjoyed this one and highly recommend this story. The author did a wonderful job of keeping your attention from beginning to end, no dull moments. It actually played like a movie in my mind. Five thumbs up to the author and this story.

When Your World Changes For The Better

Lakia, great read. You touched on some good issues with some men. Quincy finally faced a serious issue that he had allowed to happen all his life. When I tell you I was so proud of Marissa she learned to love herself before anyone else.
Watching the siblings bond without jealousy or strife was what blended families are. This read was a lesson to me. To show how to have a voice and keep everything above board with honesty being loyal and caring for someone other than yourself. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Marissa & Yaseer😍😍

Wow! This book was an absolute thrill ride! Yaseer really brought the heat! From the moment he crossed paths with Marissa, I was utterly hooked. After everything she went through with Quentin and his cheating ways, she truly deserved all the love Yaseer had in store for her! And let me tell you, Quincy and Lil Q were such gems! It was heartwarming to see how deeply they adored their mama; their love was just everything. Plus, revisiting Tech and the crew was the cherry on top! What an incredible journey!

You did it again Lakia gurl

Oooooooooh I’ll take an unhinged, loverman like Yaseer any day of the week! I loved this semi-continuation of passenger princess. It was really nice that you brought back my favorite characters to keep this storyline going. Marissa deserved that man! I wish we got some conflict with Amill’s real mother showing up… but that’s ok, future books. Yal! The cheesecake Lawd!!!! The cheesecake! Especially when jr found out! Took me all the way out lmao IYKYK!

Marissa and Yasser

First of all the book was a perfect standalone! That Marissa didn’t play with no one especially when it came to her kids (Quincy and Lil Q) so her pretty much going off on a stranger (Yasser) was funny. Then the fact that Yasser did everything to get in her good graces said a lot! Listen Yasser wasn’t scared of nothing or no one even when it came to Uncle Vincent. I enjoyed how both families blended so well together. Their little blessing towards the end was so cute!

Loved this book

I’m glad it was a stand-alone. It took me a little longer to finish, but it was well worth it. I loved that Marissa left Quentin, got with Yaseer in an unconventional way and built a family with him. Both families meshed so well together. The icing on the cake was reading about Jury, Tech, Quori and Vex. I loved how Lakia put these storylines together. Quentin had 5 kids and really did them all dirty. Yaseer was a real one. He didn’t play about his bae, and he wasn’t afraid of Uncle Vincent. I’d love a story on him lol.

Yaseer and Marissa

Lakia never miss!!! I should have known Quentin was gonna be a fk nicca. I can't believe he did Marissa dirty for 22 years out of 25 that they were married. Then the outside kids and the daughter's name. Yeah I would have left that fool to. I love that she bonded with his other kids more than he did. I love Yaseer, he stand on business when it comes to Marissa. He is everything that she needed and more. Troy was just a despicable waste of space. Great Read.💖💖

One of the most entertaining romance stories I’ve read this year

I have to say, I really enjoyed reading A Million Boss Kisses! It was wild all the secrets Quentin was keeping, if I was Marissa, I would have done him serious bodily harm! Quentin’s dad was the devil fr fr! Not sure how his mom lived with this dude for years and not know he was such an evil man. Yaseer was everything you want in a book bae - handsome, tall, rich, successful, a boss of bosses, and he did not play about his loved ones! Marissa scored big!

🥰🥰🥰

Come on Marissa!!! Better get you a man that don’t play about you!!! This was such a great read! Sr had me messed up; but I feel like it would’ve went that way from how they came about. Naming them kids after her daughter would’ve had me smiling in my mugshot though; not going to hold you. I know this was a standalone, but can you spin back for the Quincy, Q, Jameera, and Amill?! 🙏🏽🥹

good read

I’m enjoyed the story. The characters were lovable. At first it was hard keeping up with all the kids but I finally got the hang of it. I’m so happy that Troy got what he deserved because he was a royal pain. I had this love hate thing for the boys dad for some odd reason. lol. But I loved how Yaseer didn’t play when it came to what and who he wanted. Love the story. Doing it backwards but off to read passenger princess.

Another Good Read.

Lakia can write some good stories and this one did not disappoint!

This book kept me guessing what was next. It had it all: Romance, shooting, kidnapping, sex, family, everything!

Marissa and Yaseer were made for one another and even though their first meeting was CRAZY! He knew he wanted her by any means! I am happy she got someone who really cared for her amd her kids and would go to war behind them.

Million Kisses

Quinten was as a husband and father and was bigger one as a son. Marissa did right by walking away from that marriage. I'm was proud of her that she actually formed a bond with her sons siblings. Yaseer went after what he wanted and got the prize. Hopefully we can get a book on the children?
