The Blind Boy

Rate this book
When seventeen-year-old Asher Miller has to transfer schools yet again, she ends up at Mighton High.

The school is like any other that she’s been to, save for Rory Denvers – the eighteen-year-old boy who has recently gone blind in a mysterious accident.

After colliding into him on the first day of school, it’s clear that Rory Denvers wants nothing to do with Ash, and she’s content for things to remain that way. To Ash, he is surly, rude, and arrogant.

But as their mutual annoyance shifts into something deeper, Ash finds that she’s incapable of leaving Rory alone – and much to her surprise, the feelings are mutual.

Or, a teenage boy who recently went blind finds hope in a girl that can see.

I wanted to love this story so much , I liked where it was going. But it had SO MANY misspellings(double digits), missing words in sentences ( sentences just end with no punctuation), character names getting switched or introduced randomly, and confusing parts that I had to reread multiple times to understand (some I still didn’t understand).

The Blind Boy novel is a heartfelt and beautifully written love story that goes beyond just romance. It captures the quiet moments of life: the way things happen, change, and move forward, whether we're ready or not. I think the portrayal of blindness is incredibly touching and thoughtfully detailed, offering a meaningful perspective that lingers.

Walking alongside Rory and Ash on their journey feels like sharing a piece of something real. They’re not just a perfect match in love, but in wit too: their sarcastic banter, shaped by life’s ups and downs, brings a genuine charm to their bond.

If you enjoy emotional, young adult love stories with depth and a touch of realism, this one is worth your time. At first, it may feel like a regular high school love story, but give it a try, you might just fall in love with their world.

Super underrated! What a beautiful love story. As someone with visual impairment, I LOVE the representation. You never really see a visually impaired character in fiction, let alone in a Young Adult romance.

The author writes the grief of disability so WELL. I know this is technically a love story, but I think the main draw for me was Rory's healing journey. It mirrored my own in a lot of ways.

I have a feeling this will be in stores eventually and won't stay hidden for long.

My only gripe is that I wish this could've been a trilogy or a duology as opposed to a single novel.

There's just SO MUCH to unpack and I wish we could've spent more time with the other characters.

My only critique is that I WANT MORE.

This is a poignant story about Rory— a popular boy with everything going for him—who has recently been blinded and his struggle to accept his circumstances and Ash—a young women in foster care—who struggles with abandonment issues. Together they find a safe place though both have difficulty accepting it.

A very engaging story, it has some editorial issues (misused words like bowel instead of bowl, missing words, or incorrect tense). It is also very long and could have been cut some to reduce reception. On the whole, however, it was a strong enough story for me to keep reading and to finish it.
