Where Spritgales Fly

Rate this book
Erelaith has been a humble yet peaceful territory linking east and west Monsoria for generations. Miles of pasture, open skies, solitude. And according to Aeryn, enough boredom to fill all of it. When an opportunity arose for him to finally chase whatever laid beyond the valley, he seized the chance without a doubt in his mind about the adventures that lay ahead.

Alongside friends new and old, Aeryn plunged into a world full of radically different people, technology, and ideologies, one he had to decide whether or not was truly everything he imagined. With threats looming on the horizon, he soon had to face the question of whether contentment is a place, or if it’s a choice.

An excellent debut novel!

Ryan's world-building and knack for setting a scene shines strongly in this book that follows the journeys of Aeryn and friends through the massive city of Vesterone.

Some of my favorite points in the book were when Ryan would add those few extra details that put me into the world to experience it alongside the characters. Starting with the open prairies of Eralaith where I felt myself standing and basking in the peace of it all. When we reached Vesterone, I was enamored with Ryan's take on a sort of industrial revolution happening there and how it created a unique backdrop to explore.

My favorite character is actually The Chancellor. I'm intrigued by his fatalistic sense of duty and want to know what will happen to him.

I'm hoping for a sequel. I can see the potential for sown for it and hope those seeds sprout quickly!

In summary, a fantastic book that has had a lot of time and love poured into it. I loved seeing Ryan bring this one to the finished product and chat with him along the way. Reading this tells me that Ryan could have a productive addition to his creative career.
