It happens to others. Has it happened to you? It happens in various workplaces. Does it happen in Christian workplaces? What about volunteer organizations?
You may not hear the harsh words, “You’re fired!” But even with softer words and subtle manipulations, being fired or demoted or pushed out is still painful. When it happens because of poor character or performance, it is understandable. When it happens because of false accusations, office politics, or other people’s selfish ambition, it leads to loneliness, profound disillusionment, confusion, and pain. These unjust situations can ruin our lives.
The goal of this book is to find healthy ways to process demotion and rejection in an unjust setting. Why? Because poor responses to devastating pain can derail and ruin our lives. Poor responses can harm our relationship with God, harm marriages and friendships, harm a beautiful future, and harm what God wants to do through us to bring life to the world.
In the aftermath of rejection or demotion, loneliness can make us feel worthless. Pain can make us want to crawl into a hole and die. Confusion and disillusionment can affect our intimate walk with God and the good destiny he has for us.
Because so much is at stake, it’s crucial to explore the loneliness and painful experiences surrounding the loss of a job, career, or reputation.
