Six years after the planet Thera is rescued from obliteration my the outlaw, Levid, the Star Cruiser Lexington is making its way back for a visit. The planet is celebrating it's sixth anniversary of becoming members of the Alliance. Adding to the celebration is the birth of Mary Wilkes, Mike and Jo Wilkes' second child. In the midst of the celebrations, their son, Timothy, is kidnapped by one of Levid's Theran conspirators, General Brana. His aim is to rid Thera from influence by the Alliance. He also seeks to obtain weapons and materials that will aid him in taking over the planet with a force he has been building up for the six years since Levid was defeated. Concerned that anyone from the planet would want to hurt either himself or his family, Mike Wilkes must find a way to get his son back. With the arrival of the Lexington, he will need to bring all his resources to bear without introducing new technologies which might disrupt the planet. Forming a small team of Lexington crewmen and his Theran friends, he must defeat Brana's plans and get his son back.At the same time, the crew of the Lexington are able to help the Therans as they discover a significant part of their history which will forever change the planet and its people.
