Adrift is relevant to the church’s current plight as we see the waves of postmodern culture beating upon the truth. Phil Sanders gives an overview of the postmodern mood or mindset that has shaped our current culture. He describes how the postmodern values (no absolute truth but many relative truths, reasoning is useless in searching out life’s difficult questions, feelings are a better guide, tolerance is essential, meta-narratives like religion must be deconstructed) are effecting society and the church. He then argues against Postmodern values while pleading with Christians not to compromise God’s Word for the sake of tolerance.
