A reclusive anti-hero, a forbidden love, and a twisted mansion full of secrets collide in this steamy, emotionally charged romantic thriller by bestselling author Amanda McKinney.
Astor Stone built an empire on power, secrets, and control. But when he receives a ransom note for his estranged wife—the woman he’s kept hidden for years—he’s forced to play someone else’s game. The plan is simple: attend an exclusive party, get her back, and walk away.
Until Sabine Hart walks in.
When the night takes a deadly turn, Astor makes a ruthless decision: take his enemy’s daughter as collateral. Just for one night. ...But obsession doesn’t follow rules.
Sabine Hart never expected to end up the captive of a darkly handsome, dangerous man in a tucked-away mansion with creepy rooms and an even creepier housekeeper. But the longer she stays, the more Astor pulls her in—and the harder it becomes to tell the threat from the temptation.
Because in Astor’s world, passion is power. And falling for him may be the most dangerous move of all.
MINE is a seductive dark romance packed with steamy enemies-to-lovers tension, jaw-dropping twists, and a possessive anti-hero you won’t forget.

His is the second in a duo. I didn’t read the first, Mine, but I had no problem reading this one as a standalone. His is a quick easy dark romance read that had chemistry, a a mystery, and spice. I enjoyed the first person points of view of both Sabine and Astor.
I received an e-ARC from the author, after having read and liked her thriller read, A Marriage of Lies. Different genres but both likeable, easy-to-read novels.
Thanks to the author for the complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Mine was an exciting, addictive, hot, suspenseful and mysterious ride. I am a die hard Mckinney fan, this is definitely some of her best work. It started off with a bang and it never let up until the very end.
Astor is your typical grumpy, alpha male that loves control and boy did I love him, let’s say I wouldn't mind if he kidnapped me 😏 Sabine was bad*ss, she is fighting demons of her pasts but when Astor comes along they both find strength in each other they didn't know they had. The chemistry, the tension, the spice between these 2 was fire 🥵🥵
In true Mckinney fashion the plot was executed to perfection, revealing piece by piece, with the multiple twists and turns. The storyline was so fun to follow and captivated me until the very end. Be careful she will rip your heart out. This does end on a cliffhanger and I am patiently waiting for book 2.
✨️ Thank you to @greyspromo & @amandamckinneyauthor for my gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Audiobook Review Mine by Amanda McKinney was a wild, intense ride.
The first half was gripping, unpredictable, and packed with chemistry between Astor and Sabine. The second half leaned a bit chaotic with too many twists and some character inconsistencies, but it never lost its dark, addictive vibe.
The audiobook narration was fantastic—Allison River and Gideon Frost brought the story to life with emotional depth and great pacing. Their performances truly elevated the experience.
Thank you to Blush Audiobook for the ALC!
If you love possessive anti-heroes, enemies-to-lovers tension, and jaw-dropping twists, this one’s for you—especially in audio.
This was by far my favorite book written by Amanda McKinney to date. I couldn’t stop reading it. It had me hooked from start to finish. It was such an exhilarating ride and had so many twists and turns. I thought I knew what was happening and then realized I actually didn’t have a clue. I loved the addition of the anonymous character. It was creepy reading from their point of view but added such a unique perspective. All the characters were damaged and real. They were relatable and fully themselves. I was completely shocked with the ending. I cannot wait for the next book! I recommend this book 100%.
Phew! What a ride! Though I wasn't expecting a cliffhanger, the read was very emotional and with a bit more heat than usual from this author. While one of my two suspects proved out in the end, there were some surprises I didn't see coming. Those are the best stories to read for me, keeping your mind engaged throughout the whole book. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book called "His"!
Oh my gosh this book is so good! It's suspenseful, passionate, there is revenge, heartbreak, and so many more emotions. The whole time I was reading it my brain was trying to figure out who was the bad person behind the scenes. I can not wait until the next book comes out because that cliffhanger did it's job very well.
This book has left me speechless. I don't know how to decibe it except WOW!
At times I couldn't put it down and at times I didn't want to pick it up for fear of what would happen next. Several jaw dropping moments and one audible "f*&k no" while in the parking lot at my son's gymnastics class. Luckily my and the car next to me windows were closed.
It ends on a cliff and I need more! I will be on the edge of my seat waiting.
I loved this book and read it in one day. That's how good it was. It was very suspenseful and made me keep re-thinking who was behind everything. I love all of Amanda's books, but this one really hooked and reeled me in. I can't wait for book 2 so I can find out what happened. It's steamy, it's hot, it's dark, it's suspenseful, but most of all it is really good. There are plot twist around every corner that makes you not want to put the book down. Thank you Amanda for another great book.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author, and it was so packed with plot, action, romance, and suspense that I really became a fan of the story. This book was broken into two parts and each part could have been it’s own book. There was a lot packed in each part. The first part was very similar to a lot of different mafia/kidnapping story lines with one scary powerful man attempting to get revenge for his unalived wife by taking a woman that meant a lot to the other big scary powerful man. There are some twists and turns and the first part ends with a big twist and kind of cliffhanger. Part Two shifts and gives us less kidnapping/mafia to more second chance and deception/secrets. There is so much packed in the second part of this story and even though it had the same characters, it shifted to deal with the problems that are more locally and internal. There were times when I wanted to shout that these characters, especially Astor, had dealt with enough already. At the start of part two there was a moment that I wanted to shake Sabine, and there was more than once that I wanted to slap Astor to get him to wake up and actually see what was going on. These characters went through so much and there were times that I wanted so badly for then to finally get a reprieve. But all of it kept me listening and hanging on until the end.
I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of this story. It was narrated by Allison River and Gideon Frost. This was the first time I’ve had the chance to listen to either of these narrators and I really thought they did a fantastic job. They were able to keep a good pace so that, as the entire story was being thrown at me, They were able to bring the characters to life and give enough of a different voice to the side characters that I was never confused once as to who was the person speaking. They did a fantastic job and made it so I never once lost interest in what was happening.
This book had so much in it and there were so many emotions while reading it. There spice but there was also a slow burn due to the emotions and obligations of one of the characters. There is a second chance plot line and this book never lacks for emotions and connections between characters. It is definitely one that would be worth reading in print or listening to the audio.
Thank you to Blush Audiobook Promotions and Amanda McKinney for the ALC of Mine (the Anti-Hero), in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, this was such a rollercoaster. I genuinely don’t know how to explain the whirlwind of emotions I went through while reading. It was intense, chaotic, and completely gripping from the start.
The first half was incredibly strong. It was wonderfully constructed, the pacing was spot on, and I had no idea what direction the story would take. That unpredictability made it impossible to put down. Astor and Sabine were written so well. They felt like real people, layered and complex, with strong individual voices and a dynamic connection that made their scenes so engaging.
The second half was still full of tension and drama, but it started to feel a bit overloaded. There were so many twists happening in quick succession that it felt like the core of the story got slightly lost. Some plot points were introduced and then never revisited, which left a few threads dangling by the end. I also found Sabine’s character to shift in a way that didn’t entirely make sense. She started off sharp and self-assured, but later came across much more passive and malleable. It felt like she became a different person, and that shift he felt quite left field and is not of her character.
That said, the author has such a captivating way of keeping a reader engaged. I really appreciated the time and care she took in crafting the setting, the atmosphere, and especially the characters. You can tell how much thought went into making them feel real and layered.
I listened to this on audiobook, and I have to say, the narration was fantastic. The narrators did a phenomenal job bringing Sabine and Astor to life. Their performances really elevated the experience and made the emotional moments hit even harder.
Despite a few bumps in the second half, I really enjoyed this and would absolutely recommend it, especially in audio format.
A fantastic, romantic suspense with dark vibes and a dangerous anti hero in Astor Stone as he kidnaps who he thinks is the daughter of his enemy, a man who has in turn abducted his estranged wife but there is more to Sabine Hart than meets the eye as Astor is about to find out.
I was intrigued enough by the blurb of Mine which made me think of Rebecca complete with a resident housekeeper to take a chance on this new to me author and I haven’t been disappointed. Not one of the characters can be taken at face value with each of them damaged in some way and having secrets especially the heroine Sabine who on the surface seems an average girl albeit one with a tragedy in her past. But what made her get involved with Carlos and his illegal dealings? Could she be playing a game of her own? For me, out of all the characters in Mine, she is the one who is the most mysterious. Astor is a complete control freak, with a fear of losing people whether through them choosing to leave or someone using them to get to him to the extent he’s become obsessive and so could end up driving them away with his behaviour. The plot was well written and absorbing, with the tension building throughout with an anonymous villain lurking in the background, playing psychological mind games with the hero and heroine but who is really their target? All this before culminating in a WTF cliffhanger. Honestly, this book has left me with more questions than answers and I can’t wait for the next book where hopefully all the protagonists' secrets will be revealed.
Fast-paced, action-packed, sizzling story that I could not put down ~ Not sure how I will wait for book two!
What I liked: * Astor Stone: billionaire, owner of Astor Ston Inc, lethal, lethal, responsible, protective, controlling, alpha to the nth degree, brilliant, silver fox, grieving, instant attraction to Sabine * Sabine Hart: brilliant, math major, financial analyst, knows many people but has few if any friends, is ready for a “change”, strong, resilient, outspoken, drawn to Astor * The dynamics and dialogue between Astor and Sabine * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * That I was drawn into the story, felt a part of it, and cared about the characters * The twists, turns, hints, and surprises – some creepy dark things happened * The supporting characters that I would like to know more about – Cillian and Leon come to mind * The complexity of the characters and getting to know what made them tick * That I can see why Astor and Sabine were drawn together and clicked * Knowing that there is a second book to look forward to * All of it except…
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Thinking about how evil some people can be * Having to wait for the next book
Did I enjoy this story? Yes Would I read more in this series/by this author? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
This was the first book I had read/listen to by this author and she did not disappoint. I was skeptical at first during the beginning chapters but the more and more I read the more I got into the story. Astor and Sabine story was gripping to me after chapter 10 from there I could not put it down! It has some of my favorite tropes in it such as forced proximity, age-gap, enemies to lovers and a possessive Anti-Hero. And the twist during the last ten chapters OMG, those are the best because you are just on the edge of you seat the whole time. The audiobook is narrated by Allison River and Gideon Frost, they do a fantastic job with this book. This is a duet series and if you listen to the audiobook is is both books with are MINE and HIS. The spice in this duet is amazing I would give it 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 out of five. The first spice scene in this series are the ones where you just have to pause after and blush or giggle after because it was so good!
I went into this book completely blind and holy bananas WHAT A FREAKING ROLLERCOASTER ! This book is full of emotions, spice and twist/turns that you will not see coming . You think you know the “who done it” of it all but then something else happens you’re back to the drawing board which is just amazing ! The chapters from the anonymous character were so creepy but added such a unique look on everything that was playing out through our main characters eyes . The ending will leaving your mind blown and the cliffhanger is a killer but oh so worth it . I can’t wait for book two !
This is book one of The Anti Hero series + it CANNOT be read as a standalone . this book ends on a CLIFFHANGER .
This book was given to me for honest review by Grey’s Promotions .
This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author. I am a fan! This started off explosive and had me fully engaged with the suspense, mystery, and chemistry between the MCs.
I enjoyed the narration to this book. The narrators’ performances were remarkable fully immersive and I could feel the emotions as well as the heat of it. It was so good. The twists I didn’t see coming had me gasping. And the cliffhanger…gah! Now needing the second book! Narrators 4⭐️
Mine by Amanda McKinney is the First book in The Anti-Hero Series. This the story of Astor Stone who is a recluse billionaire that has his own security business. When he gets a message that his estranged wife has been kidnapped he goes forward to find her. But he ends up taking Sabine Hart. this book does end setting us up for more in their story.
If your hearts not racing and your cheeks a little flushed you might want to check for a pulse! This is a wild story and it’s got it all! So if you are looking for a page turner with twists and turns and spicy 🥵 this is it! Loved it!! Amanda has done it again!
This audiobook was fan-freakin’-tastic! I devoured the whole thing in a single day and loved every minute of it. It’s got the perfect mix of hot, steamy spice and suspense. Such a fun and thrilling listen! I highly recommend checking it out!
I almost had a heart attack before those last few pages. Omg! What a story!! So many twists, turns, emotions, wtf moments, mystery, intrigue, suspense, questions, emotional turmoil. This was so, so, so good. Ugh how will I wait for book two?!?!
So, Astor is this reclusive billionaire who does secret work for the government. One day he gets an email and finds out his estranged wife has been kidnapped. Things go south and he takes something of his rivals. I can’t say much else because there is so much that goes on and I don’t want to give anything away. Really, really good!
There are books I fall in love with from the first page. There are books for which my feelings gradually warm up. There are books that I don't like at first. And there are those who leave me with very mixed feelings, just like Amanda McKinney's "Mine" did.
The beginning of "Mine" greatly increased my expectations, as it showed a really good and detailed writing style that does not give everything to the reader and does not just tell the story. McKinney's style provides exactly the right things, inserted in the perfect places at the right time, so as to help us get to know the characters and at the same time continue to maintain the mystery around them. A big bonus for me were the short chapters, as I just love those and I didn’t feel when I was already halfway through the book.
Nothing is hurried in the book, including the meeting of the main characters, which I really liked. The increasing tension greatly contributed to my curiosity to follow how the characters' relationships and the course of the story would unfold. My attention was grabbed from the very first pages, which showed that the book will not be much of an easy read, but it will make me enjoy every page of it. In addition to the main storyline between Sabine and Astor, there are several more subplots at the same time, one of which takes the direction of an evolving mystery and with all the elements that complemented this one so well, I can't help but say that I didn't want to stop reading.
The two main characters together are like a storm where you expect to be swept away because of the intensity of their emotions and feelings. Their relationship is extremely intense, which makes the sexual attraction between them so great that you cannot help but feel it, even if they are not in one place. And their erotic scenes only contribute even more to the enjoyment of the book. I admit that their conversations were a bit strange and awkward in their first longer interactions, but for me this only contributed to the interesting dynamics between them.
So far, the book sounds great, doesn't it? Only a little after the middle from a great one, it turned into a complete tragedy!
Yes, there was great attraction between Sabine and Astor. Yeah, they looked great together. Yes, the tension was so good that your legs shook. However, I never realized when Sabine was able to fall in love with Astor so quickly that she began to hold him to accountable because of his attitude and started throwing tantrums. And what did I miss that Astor went from being cool, calculating and perfect at maintaining a good image in front of his audience, became a complete caveman who goes to beat people because they talk to Sabine and treat her horribly just because she left him at some event to go to the bathroom? Their relationship had huge potential, and when it finally came to that, I feel like everything was rushed. And not because of anything else, but because the author just didn't know what to do with them.
On top of that, some things happen out of nowhere, the characters go completely crazy without any logic in their actions, everything happens too quickly and forced, and that absolutely dragged the book down. I even wondered at one time if the same person had written the first and second half of the book, because it didn't look like that.
The climax is filled with a lot of action, but precisely because of everything that happens it is terribly chaotic, which does not make it good.
Part of the denouement seemed too long and even superfluous. And although the cliffhanger invites me to pick up the second book, I'm not entirely sure if I want to read it. ~~~ Rating: 3/5⭐
✨~~~This book was provided to me by Grey's Promo for my honest opinion.~~~✨
This book is a whirlwind!! And kept me on looking for the next clue to uncover. It’s very much a romantic suspense. I was putting the pieces together, taking every bread crumb I could. And the end was exactly what I wanted! HEA ❤️
This story follows the life of Aster and Sabine. It is nice though that throughout the book you do get some other character POVs. And not they are very important to get them! The small things may seem odd or insignificant but I can promise you they are not. Definitely mystery thriller vibes this books gives. And don’t worry plenty of hot spicy moments too! Aster is a very obsessive man. He gave me some major beauty and the beast vibes throughout. His love is all consuming and I’m always here for it.
Narrators did an excellent job as well. Especially with the additional characters they had to take on. I definitely felt I could tell the difference between them and not lost with who was speaking.
This was my first book by this author and I definitely will be reading more. It was a book to definitely palate cleanse and give me more to bite while reading.
His is an addictive, fast paced, hot, romantic suspense. It's the second book in the Anti-Hero series and I highly recommend you read the first one prior as it follows up after the major cliffhanger in book 1. It seriously had EVERYTHING I could ask for to make for a perfect read. From the very first page I was absolutely obsessed once again with Astor & Sabine. There was never a moment when I wanted to put this book down. I'm obsessed !
The snippy fast chapters filled with action and intrigue truly kept me wanting more at the end of each one, so I had to keep going. The story was great, the characters were amazing, the spice was hot, the suspense was fantastic. I honestly was not expecting all those twists and turns that Mckinney put in this one, just when I thought she was done..nope she hit me with another.
I'm obsessed with this series, very much worth the read. Fast paced, filled with juicy secrets, suspense and hot romance, perfection 👌
✨️Thank you to @amandamckinney for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book just wasn’t it. I really didn’t like that he slept with his “wife” while pining after his “ex-girlfriend”. He also never told Sabine he slept with her. The ending wasn’t too bad with the twists, but it got a little hard to keep up with all of them and keep everyone straight.
OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS. Where do I begin with this one?! This one was a ride that kept me guessing till the very end and the suspense angle with dark & eerie vibes perfectly went hand in hand with the love that springs up between two lost souls.
At first, when it began I was excited with all the action we got. Astor Stone makes up for an enigmatic personality and makes you oh so curious about the reclusive billionaire right from the start.
Somehow caught amidst the life long enmity of her boss and Astor, Sabine is taken into captivity by a man who's old enough to be her father but enkindles in her, feelings and desires that she's unable to resist.
But from the moment, Sabine steps into the Stone Manor she feels being watched and other such small things happen that make her feel on guard and she realises that there's an unknown presence around.
Sabine doesn't know if it's a ghost or someone close by, but there's a malevolent energy that she feels around her.
Amidst the secrecy around her Kidnapping and the growing suspicion of the people around her, also leads to a budding start of an unexpected romance that's stemmed from unfulfilled desires.
Soon, though Astor is as fascinated and Obsessed with Sabine as she is with him. But Astor himself seems to be hiding things from her and Sabine is left on her own to find out the truth behind every person.
I loved the slow build of crackling chemistry between Astor and Sabine. The building tension, the madness that the other is unaware of and the unrestrained want - Ahhh.... All of it keeps you as wanting as Astor and Sabine are and I was waiting impatiently as to when these two would finally give in to their burning need. And when they do..... Smokey Fire and Blazing Furnace. That scene on the dining table.... Oh my... 🥵🔥🔥🌶️🌶️
I also loved the fact that Sabine DID NOT TAKE ASTOR AND HIS ATTITUDE JUST LYING BACK. No, she gives back to him just as good. Especially with his hot and cold behaviour and his rudeness, even though it comes from a place of protectiveness, yet I loved that Sabine makes Astor realise that she definitely won't be his silent doll.
Astor Stone though remains a mystery because in spite of having that kind of wealth and power yet I couldn't have fathomed the suffocating pain and anguish that man suffers from. I felt so deeply heartbroken for that man who still is imprisoned in his own pain of the past.
But there are so many questions that I had. What do those letters mean and what is the story behind Astor's wife and who's the one that's stalking them secretly, Is it a Ghost or an actual person? I seriously was on tenterhooks waiting to find out.
AND THEN THOSE LAST CHAPTERS HAPPEN AND I'M BEYOND SHOCKED RIGHT NOW. 😱😱
Ok, Heads up this one does end on a cliffy and trust me you should still pick this one up because it's a ride that will drive you crazy with all the mystery and suspense.
I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED, SUPER NERVOUS AND IMPATIENT to get my hands on the next book. Sabine and Astor were unusual but you won't be able to stop yourselves from falling for their story. Oh so loved loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mine by Amanda McKinney is a dark, seductive romantic thriller that takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster through a world of power, obsession, and dangerous attraction. The story introduces Astor Stone, a billionaire CEO with a hidden life full of power and secrets. When a ransom note arrives, threatening the life of his estranged wife, Astor is forced to navigate a dangerous game to retrieve her. His plans are soon disrupted by Sabine Hart, a woman who finds herself unexpectedly entangled in his world of intrigue.
Astor is an anti-hero with a cold, calculating nature, perfectly blending his role as a businessman by day and a ruthless figure in the criminal underworld by night. His decision to take Sabine hostage as collateral after a deadly turn of events reveals just how far he is willing to go to maintain control. However, as the story unfolds, the tension between Astor and Sabine builds to a level of undeniable passion, blurring the lines between captor and captive.
Sabine, on the other hand, is thrust into a terrifying and unfamiliar world when she becomes a pawn in Astor’s twisted game. While the mansion she is confined to is eerie and unsettling, the dark attraction between her and Astor becomes even more intense. Despite his threats and cold exterior, she is drawn to him, even as she struggles with the dangerous game she’s caught up in.
The chemistry between the two is palpable, as Amanda McKinney expertly crafts a story of enemies-to-lovers tension that feels both forbidden and inevitable. The plot is full of twists and turns, keeping readers on the edge of their seat, unsure of who can be trusted and what will happen next. The house itself is almost a character in its own right, adding a gothic atmosphere that complements the simmering tension between Astor and Sabine. The dark romance elements are thoroughly explored, making the reader question the line between love and obsession, power and submission.
At its core, Mine is a story about the complex and often dangerous interplay of power, love, and control. Astor and Sabine’s relationship grows into something far more consuming than either of them anticipated. The novel is full of jaw-dropping twists that continually upend expectations, while the possessive, magnetic pull between the characters keeps the pages turning. Amanda McKinney delivers a thrilling romance that’s dark and addictive, filled with intense passion and high stakes.
For those who enjoy steamy, emotionally charged narratives with complex characters and high tension, Mine is a must-read. It’s a captivating tale that explores how far one is willing to go for love, power, and control—ultimately leading to a passionate, dangerous conclusion that leaves a lasting impression.
“Consent or No Consent? I will not ask for permission again.. I will take you when I want to . “
YO….. THE HEAT!! Bring it , it's ON.
You can clearly see throughout the book and hear in the Audio that you are dealing with two highly intellectual people. They know what they want and it seems to not be based in a mindless emotional exchange but very much thought trough and acted on.
Im writing this review in bits and bobs as Im listening because Im sure Im gong to forget to mention things. It's intense, deep, emotional and with a million curve balls. … Its getting dark… Im sure there is something more sinister going on… Also I am amazed and they Psychological insight Sebine has into Aster. I would not have picked up on the things she is picking up… AND HOW is she handling it all so well??? … Something is not adding up in the background here. I am literally going back in my mind to see if there are more clues.. its GRIPPING.. … The whole book is Charged with electricity and definite chemistry between Aster and Sebine.. even though Im still trying 3/4 trough to pick up the Mysteries this one thing is certain in my head. They are great as a couple.
Emotionally challenged Prince Charming and His slutty Cinderella.. I laughed so hard. LOVE IT. Sebine nailed it down in the description of themselves.
Again the twists and turns in this book will have you sitting up for most of it. My wife and the love of my life, an impossible situation…
There is definite growth in the characters and the plot thickens all the way trough both parts right till the end. I loved every moment.. I tried to NOT spoil it for myself so I will urge you to not spoil it by reading or skipping. It's worth the moments of anguish and wonder.
I think the narrators were perfect for this book. The male narrator had an almost stop-go flow which suited the character so perfectly. I felt so in synch with them. I am so happy I had the chance to listen to the Audio. Highly recommend it.
I don't take sides and I understand where Aster is coming from but majority of the time Im taking my hat off to Sebine.. she is the bigger person time and time again. I do not think I would have coped with what she has to cope with most of the time. With how she has to bend and adjust.
Bridget and Leo entering was such a great angle and I appreciated all the extra intrigue. This BOOK takes you around so many theories and keeps you engaged all the way trough.
Every-time I thought I had it… But even without all the intrigue it would have been great. I love that I found a new author!! I definitely will be reading more and the narrators did such an awesome job and kept me “glued” to the pages/ well stuck to my earphones !!!
SPICE : YESS Intrigue and mystery : YES Great, Great reader satisfaction!
If you have any triggers around loss please be aware and then also around mental health. Thats not the whole list, just some extra’s I picked up. )
Clocking in at just under 13 hours, this audiobook is a monster in more ways than one. Let’s start with the characters.
First up is Sabine Hart — a gorgeous, raven-haired, twenty-something math genius turned crime financial advisor. She doesn’t commit the crimes; she just hides them under layers of dollar signs. Her early life was messy (true to any good, addictive FMC), but it’s her honesty and curiosity as the story unfolds that really give her depth and drive. And then her whole world flips at a single poker game.
Enter Astor Stone — older, mysterious, and devastatingly magnetic. He’s a billionaire with a reputation for breaking hearts, but with secrets that only his closest confidants know. He’s everything you want in an MMC if you love your heroes angsty, dangerous, and scarred. His traumatic past fuels both his empire and his unyielding need for control. He’s suffered enough loss to break any man — yet he morphs into a quietly lethal operator who feels as hard as his name.
When Sabine and Astor collide, the chemistry is instant and mouthwatering — I’d even go so far as to say they’re soulmates. The tropes here blend together into something that hits harder than Astor’s favorite whiskey on the rocks. At its core, you’ve got a romantic suspense dripping with danger, then throw in a delicious age gap, sharp banter, an unlimited bank account, and spice that lands like a left hook — it’s a saga that had me emotionally invested within the first 20 minutes.
The writing? Absolutely gorgeous. McKinney paints vivid imagery and dives deep into raw emotion — almost to a fault. She builds scenes and drops plot twists like it’s her full-time job (which, technically, it is). There are too many stunning passages to count — lines that rip your heart out and make you question whether you can even keep listening.
That said — this one is heavy. The themes, the length, the triggers — all of it. Yes, there are heartwarming and laugh-out-loud moments sprinkled in to ease the tension, but a content warning would’ve been appreciated. A few big ones that stood out to me: off-page child loss, cheating, kidnapping, and severe mental illness.
On the lighter side, the narrators (Gideon Frost and Allison River) absolutely nailed it. You can feel every ounce of angst, pain, and passion. They both handled multiple voices flawlessly, and I’m always in awe of narrators who can do that — I personally only have two voices: my normal voice and the ever-terrifying mom voice, which I’ve perfected if I do say so myself.
Long and heavy (😉😉), this ALC made me giggle, blush, and question the logistics of more than one scene. The spice? Ghost pepper level — all the feels, all the heat. It’s dark, brooding, and addictive — perfect for anyone who loves the grittier side of romance with characters who push every limit.
Huge thanks to Amanda McKinney and Blush Audiobooks for the ALC — and, as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
