Magic’s loose in D.C. The FBI just called in Billie Keller—because when spells go sideways, she makes them stop... before something goes boom.

After years wrangling magical threats in Vegas, Billie’s got a new mission—leading the FBI’s first-ever Magical Threats Division. New team. New city. Same chaos.

Her crew? One sniper. One scout. One hacker. One shadow agent. And one walking headache named Onyx—a human-sized pixie with weapons, attitude, and a wicked right hook.

Their first case? Stop a gang from unleashing ancient crystals that could turn the capital into a crater.

But that’s just the beginning.

Because D.C. is crawling with buried magic, outlaw mages, and secrets no one’s ready to face—and Billie’s team is the last line of defense.

Packed with magic, monsters, martial arts, and one pixie who turns chaos into cleanup.

Threat Crystal—scroll up and join the team. Book One of the Magical Threats Division.

I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.

I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.

My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.

Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

Another pretty standard urban fantasy series. Nothing out of the ordinary but good enough to be an enjoyable read.

The usual bunch of peculiar characters are okay, it has the usual banter, magic slinging, some crime hunting and so on and so forth.

Decent enough for me to continue reading... for now.

Off to a good start

I have NOT read the prequel offered many times in the back of the book before the authors notes. I am familiar with all the authors. The lazy bird killer did not deign to delight discussions with an author note. Not sure which excuse he has forgotten to use.
The story opens in a familiar universe with names and titles, which sparks fond memories of other stories and worlds. As usual, the main character is a female, feisty and unforgettable. The "sidekick" is quite a different type of choice. So far, it is much more well-behaved, polite, and willing to follow orders from "superiors". Equipped with a form of action that will develop more, the sidekick seems to be the snark and tease instigator for the series. Let the words, spells, actions, and plots fly on wings of fancy/fantasy. Urban fantasy.

Great start to new series

This is a new series in an established urban fantasy world written by a seasoned author team.
It is wonderful, as you expect from this group. The characters are engaging and some have quirks that resonate with me as someone I wish I knew.
Definitely looking forward to the next installment.

Another great Oriceran story

This story slips into the Oriceran universe as if it had always happened there. TRC and Martha Carr have once again brought another fun and action-packed read. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and will be rereading it again very soon, just to pick up on things that I have no doubt missed on the first read. Roll on book 2, Threat Level: Hellfire.

Great start

Another great start to a new series by TR Cameron. It has humor, action, fun characters (good and bad guys), good storylines, and pixies. I can't wait for the rest of the series for more adventures and fun banter.

A fun urban fantasy

This is an urban fantasy by a magical FBI unit. The unit is new, based in Washington DC, and they immediately tripped over enemies. There are some very fascinating characters from buried backgrounds. I will definitely read the next book in the series.

Hmmm. It seems like I read this before. Ms Carr certainly comes to mind. It is a fun read and an interesting use of crystals... I could not go 5 star this time. Maybe after Bk 2. I have read most of Cameron's works and totally enjoyed them.

All of this group of authors have gotten so formulaic that they are starting to get unreadable.
Yeah, yeah — tightly scripted plot formula - extending into several books - over stretching original concept to death.

A fun and exciting intro to the cases worked by this magic version of the FBI. Characters are quirky and badass. They interact so well. Exciting storyline as the case and team come together. Interested and excite for more.

This is a good story, but I could not connect with the characters enough to care what happened.
