Stuck on a planet undergoing catastrophic changes...Surrounded by hundreds of giant alien warriors...Sergeant Hugo McManus is running out of time.A group of refugees has taken shelter on a drilling platform once used to pump carbon dioxide emissions into the air in the hopes of thickening the atmosphere on the Free World of Libertine. They must use whatever resources they can find to fight off the invading Ashi, who were stranded on the planet after their ship was destroyed in orbit.
But it isn’t just the warriors of the Galactic Empire that is trying to kill Hugo and his friends. The planet is in upheaval after being bombed from orbit. Libertine has become unstable and is sliding into an unexpected Ice Age. It’s an extinction-level event, and the only thing standing between the refugees and certain death is one Space Marine in advanced MECH fighting armor.
Brutal Planet is the second and final book of the War for Libertine series. It is a fast-paced, action-packed military sci-fi story that will have you hooked from the very first page. Written by master storyteller Toby Neighbors. Brutal Planet is a fight for survival against all odds, told from the point of view of the man who lived it.
The fight for survival on planet Libertine would be a lot easier without the Ashi.
Sgt. Hugo "Iron Man" McManus and the slaves he had rescued from the Ashi were sheltering in an abandoned drilling platform in what was once desert. The bombardment of the planet's surface by the Ashi had shifted the tectonic plates and thrown tons of dirt and debris into the atmosphere blocking the sun and and altering the weather pattern to a glacial ice age. Hugo and Zaya, the only other human in the group, were organizing the group of ex-slaves and repairing equipment. Hugo's mech armor was their main defense from occasional roving bands of Ashi warriors. Ashi warriors were over 13 feet tall and massively muscled, armed with huge laser rifles and 4 foot daggers. Even the mech was finding the Ashi a tough fight. To keep things interesting, Hugo and Says were forming some kind of relationship. Hard to describe, even harder to figure out. These characters, from the Starship Renegade vintage are easy to jump into and follow into traps and entanglements. Excellent depth, angst and humor bring the characters a warmth and familiarity. The battle sequences are intense and fitting. The weapons are fitting and within the bounds of storyline expectations. Hugo kicks butt! This is a great read!
