What does it mean to wield power without becoming the thing you’re fighting against?Kennedy didn’t mean to kill her brother. But now there’s no going back.
Branded a fugitive by the crown, Kennedy escapes into the rebellion determined to help build a better world. But that resolve is tested when Drayzen, the first man she’s ever felt more than friendship toward, is taken prisoner and leadership refuses to help.
To save him, Kennedy must defy orders and risk everything including the fragile hope of figuring out where she belongs.
But revolution is never simple, and the longer she spends within their ranks, the more she questions who the real enemies are.
The prophecy says Kennedy could change the world, but will she be the spark that saves it, or the flame that burns it down?
I am a voluntary ARC reader, and this is my honest review of "Esotera." I continue to be very impressed with how Niki is able to shape her characters in a way that allows the reader to recognize their own struggles within her characters. Kennedy continues to be one of the most relatable characters that I have read, and her found family gives me all the comfort that I would hope to receive from a group of friends like that.
We are also introduced to some not so new characters who are given the chance to come into their own and make a big impact on the story itself as well as some brand new faces that I have come to love.
With the world stage being what it is now, it gives me comfort to slip into a world where the protagonist and her friends are fighting for a world that cares about each other regardless of their differences.
All-in-all, this book was incredible hard to put down, amazingly paced, and contained just the right amount of angst and acceptance. I would highly recommend giving this book a read.
Esotera by Niki Fixtion is a continuation of the Echo of Arcanum series, and if you haven’t read Arcana, please drop everything and read it now. You won’t regret it.
We dive back into the world with Kennedy right as everything is unfolding. If you want a story that will make you laugh out loud at the internal dialogue from the FMC, this is the book for you.
The writing is witty and relatable, making it a read you can’t put down. The twists and turns leave you on the edge of your seat. There is humour, love, and heartbreak all within these pages, that will leave you feeling like you are leaving a piece of yourself within this novel.
The character development, the plot development, all of it. It’s created a world you don’t want to leave, captivated by the fluidity of it all. I looked forward to seeing how this world and this author developed, and Esotera did not disappoint. The world built up even better, the characters felt whole, and the story as a whole grasps you and refuses to let go.
Niki, I really hope you’ve already started the next book because I am desperate to dive back into the world of Arcanum, preferably yesterday.
This was amazing. I will say it does end on an AMAZING cliff hanger so if you're impatient to know what happens next you may want to wait or be like me and read it and be pissed that you have to stalk the author's socials and be on the lookout for the release date for number 3 even though this book JUST CAME OUT! I will say that I thought the final words were, "I...I don't know." and was surprised to see there were a few more lines after that because that would have been epic. We got characters we know from Arcana and new characters that you will fall for! Let the not-so-patient waiting for the final installment begin!
Man this book kept me on the edge of my seat. I thought I had things figured out, but boy was I wrong. There were so many twists and turns I didn't expect from this story. Great job keeping me guessing what would happen next. There are some pretty vial characters that I hope get what's coming to them, but it just hasn't happened yet. There is hope still, but I am betting it will take a while for that to happen.
This series has etched itself into my soul, and Esotera delivered hugely on both the world-building and the story-pushing front.
I already knew Kennedy was perched on the precipice of greatness, but the empathy, love and caring for her friends came to the forefront as she established herself as the de facto leader of the rebellion - but I tell you, there were so many twists I did not see coming.
I would say that I am furious about the cliffhanger, but that would be a lie... although the author needs to hurry back to Arcanum because I REALLY need to know what happens next!
