Till Orc Do Us Part

Rate this book
I’m just trying to save my bookstore, my town, and maybe — just maybe — avoid throwing a chair at the orc tycoon trying to bulldoze it all.
But Drokhaz Vellum doesn’t bulldoze.

He looms.

Six-foot-eight of green-skinned CEO in a custom suit, standing in my town hall like he already owns the sky.
I insult him.

He watches me like I’m a poem no one else gets to read.
And somehow—somehow—my son decides this terrifying warlord is now his best friend. Next thing I know, Drokhaz is fixing benches, reading bedtime stories, and buying out the poetry section of my shop like it’s a damn love language.
He says he’s just here for “redevelopment.”
But I’ve seen how he looks at me.

Like I’m history worth preserving.

Like I’m not just part of the town—

I am the town.
I should hate him.

Instead, I’m letting him in.

Read on for enemies-to-lovers, cinnamon roll orc obsession, seaside porch swings, and a heroine who accidentally falls for the green giant next door. HEA Guaranteed!

So the world has not been a good place lately and I needed something happy, but nothing that I owned was calling to me. I stumbled on Zora Black mainly because I needed the letter Z for some of my yearly challenges, but oh my was I instantly charmed by this book and immediately downloaded more.

Rowan is just trying to save her towns Boardwalk from being torn down and rebuilt into shiny new condos for the rich. Her bookstore is on the boardwalk along with other local shops, and that's not to mention all of stories and history that preside there. So she takes it upon herself to fight the developer at every turn. Well, as luck would have it, she bites off more than she can chew with Drokhaz, and soon finds herself falling for the Orc and vise versa as Drokhaz ends up finding more that dollar signs when he gets to know Rowan and her son.

OMG the relationship between Drokhaz and Jamie. This is where it got me, if I'm being honest. This little boy was so adorable and so open. He would have charmed anyone, it's not shocking that he charmed Drokhaz. Their scenes were so heartwarming and just added a layer of such coziness to this that I really needed.

There were a few editing errors in the copy I had, some sentences that repeated themselves right after each other. Some scenes that split and picked up in weird locations, not sure if my copy downloaded weird or not, but it still didn't hinder my enjoyment of the book at all. It was just what I needed and I'm looking forward to reading more from Black.

“Till Orc Do Us Part” is a charming and humorous fantasy romance that skillfully blends adventure with heartfelt moments. It takes the familiar concept of orcs in fantasy and reimagines it as a romantic comedy, offering readers a delightful mix of action, witty dialogue, and genuine emotional connection.

The book truly excels in its character development, particularly the captivating dynamic between its central, unlikely pair. The heroine is portrayed as sharp-tongued and independent, finding herself intertwined with an orc whose rough exterior conceals both intelligence and vulnerability. Their interactions are lively and spirited, filled with snappy banter and amusing situations that keep the narrative engaging. The romance unfolds with grace, striking a perfect balance between passionate tension and authentic emotional growth.

A key strength of this story lies in its successful genre fusion. Fantasy enthusiasts will appreciate the subtle world-building elements, while romance aficionados will be drawn to the compelling chemistry and satisfying slow-burn development. The novel maintains a consistent sense of playful fun, seemingly winking at classic tropes while still delivering all the beloved elements of a well-crafted love story.

Ultimately, “Till Orc Do Us Part” is a lighthearted, entertaining, and imaginative fantasy romance with a unique twist. It delivers humour, heart, and just the right amount of spice, making it an enjoyable escape for those seeking bold, playful, and unconventional love stories.

Try it.

'I want to hate Drokhaz Vellum. I want to rage against his cold suits and colder plans.
But tonight, my son sleeps with a smile— because a green-skinned giant let him dream out loud.
And that?
That terrifies me more than anything.'

I loved this book. It was such a fun, sweet romance. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Rowan and Drokhaz. I loved her passion and her willingness to speak up for her hometown, even if it's a battle she has a slim chance of winning. But it was Jamie who stole the show for me. He was sweet and innocent but asked questions that reminded Drokhaz to put more meaning and joy into his work. The confident simplicity of a five-year-old that drew him in even further.

'God help me. The boy’s charmed the walking wrecking ball.'

The scenes with Jamie alone with Drokhaz where they openly talk were my favorites. I also really liked Drokhaz's personality. Calm, quiet, not arrogant or thinking he knew better than anyone just because he has money and power. Observational and absorbing. He wasn't anything like Rowan thought he was and I liked the way their relationship developed- each lingering on the other's mind.

'Perhaps not all things must be built for profit.
Perhaps some… are built for peace.'

I also liked the supporting characters and what they bring to the story, like Liara's support and Cass' wisdom.

A very fun and meaningful story. 5 stars

Another enjoyable short Orc read. In this book, we have Rowan, who's not too happy with Drokhaz wanting to change her town with development. As they work through, she finds his love of poetry intriguing and -her thoughts change towards him.
