Nikolai Petrovic is a man of refinement. He collects fine art, enjoys gourmet cuisine, and trains boutique sex slaves for some of the wealthiest—and most morally dubious—men and women in the world.
Charged by a wealthy client to buy a man to train but not break—to shape into a skilled, obedient slave who will yield with hatred rather than love in his eyes—Nikolai finds the perfect raw material in Mathias Carmichael. But there’s a he was auctioned off in a lot with his beautiful younger brother.
Douglas Carmichael is a lovely, trainable thing, but Nikolai never takes on more than one slave at a time. As a master trainer who’s never once failed in his task, he knows he’s up to the challenge, but it will take formidable skill and planning to mold these drastically different brothers into their best selves. And in order to make them obedient to Nikolai and their future masters above all others, he’ll first have to break their greatest loyalty of their dedication to each other.

Welcome back to the wicked mind-fuckery known as The Flesh Cartel from authors Rachel Haimowitz & Heidi Belleau! During season 2 - Fragmentation Mat & Dougie who have relied on each other for years and shared a deep brotherly bond are taken into Nikolai Petrovic's "care." Nikolai is a trainer for The Flesh Cartel, one who is known to get results, even with the hardest cases. His mentor taught him well after all when he himself was just a young boy undergoing his own form of training. Yes, Nikolai has been with the cartel for his entire life. He knows what he is doing. These authors truly went above and beyond with the psychological torture and reprogramming that occurs in this story. Nikolai is a deliciously wicked and cunning character. He will give you chills.
When he sees the deep bond between Mat & Dougie, he knows he will have to break it. Gone are the days of relying on each other. A slave has no purpose in life but to pleasure their master. Nikolai is not thrilled to have to work with Dougie, his Douglas, he only acquired him because he had to as the brothers came as one unit. However, he quickly changes his mind and begins to see what beautiful submissive tendencies Douglas has -- and a smart mind too, a unique and fun challenge for Nikolai to indulge in. Nikolai is training Douglas to be a pleasure slave, to crave the touch of his owner, male or female.
Mat on the other hand, he is the one his client wants and he has to be trained but not broken, just enough to fight his client but give in, to never win. After all the client must always be satisfied and the client wants a slave who hates them but willingly submits in the end.
It becomes clear pretty quickly that in order for Mat to be his best slave he is going to have to break the bond between the brothers. Only once the bond is broken can Nikolai start to build Mat back up to his truest potential as a slave.
This season is full of sadomasochistic content, and the tone is dark and depraved. It will draw you in to a world where basic human rights are taken away, and a person lives to serve another.
You will be in the mind of Mat and Dougie while Nikolai breaks them down and makes them question their own sanity.
There were times where I felt these stories were probably the darkest thing I had ever read, but then Nikolai would take it further. I seriously felt like I couldn't read these books fast enough, it is like that moment where you see something, like a car wreck - you are afraid to look because you might see something awful, but you can't stop yourself and you have to look -- that is the feeling, the adrenaline rush you feel while reading these books.
I was addicted to that feeling while reading these books, and if you enjoy dark, twisted, depraved stories -- you will love The Flesh Cartel.
5 Stars to Season 2 and one thing I learned after reading this season is these two authors should never be left up to their own devices...wicked, wicked women! Yes, I love it!!
Once again my ability to articulate my feelings about what I just read is failing. I am disgusted, afraid, disgusted, curious, disgusted, can't look away, and disgusted.
These people are sick and crazy! I can't wait for Mat to finally get them in the end. I know it's coming; I've read reviews. But the time between now and then, torturous. Reading this story makes me want to enforce a dictatorship in the US and force building by building searches to see where acts like this (and let's not kid ourselves - this shit happens in real life!!!!) are going on and free those people, and make those "in charge" suffer. The idea that these people exist is frightening and makes me not want to leave my house, or meet people.
The depravity is extremely dark and NOT for everyone. I didn't like how dark it went because it felt like added darkness and disgust just for shock value. I didn't think certain things needed to be carried out that far. But that's just me. And for Dougie to believe Mat would just turn his back on him in the last scene - not realistic. Dougie is smart and I know he knows deep down Mat didn't just let that guy rape him. These are extenuating circumstances and Dougie knows they are doing things they would not normally do, allowing things they would not normally allow, or even conceive of allowing. They are both doing whatever they think they need to do to get the pain to stop. They resist at first, but after days and days on non-stop torture, Dougie is loosing his mind (and he knows it), and breaks down, having memory gaps and delusions/visions. Deep down they both know the score, but neither are any match (right now) to deal with these professional assholes.
And now I am stuck with giving this a rating. Sigh. Well, I am not even sure I will continue reading this series. A great big smooshy hug to Fabi for lending me this bundle. I truly appreciate it. This was certainly an eye opening read. I don't know if I can take anymore though. I am going to read the blurbs for the next few books. And I have stalled in giving a rating but the moment has come. 2.5 stars rounded to 3 only because this series isn't proving to be to my taste. I think I mentioned in my review of the first 2 books that this series is like a horror movie (or a car accident) you can't help but watch, even though it's scary. You watch a scary movie with the lights on/ in the day light, and still between your fingers. That is this series. I might skip some of the books and jump to those where Mat finally gets his revenge. We'll see.
This one seems more manipulation & torture. I must be twisted cause I loved it!!! I'm ashamed to say but I love Nikolai! I really think for a bad guy, he's gonna be one 9f the good ones. Yes, he's manipulative, but I think he truly cares for Douglas and will the best Master for him. I do worry for Mat. It sounds like his owner will be a Sadist of the highest caliber.
Psychological cruelty like nothing I have ever read before. You cannot look away. Nikolai is the master at doling out rewards and punishments. We get his and the both brother’s POVs. It is a testament to the human spirit that these two even have a will to live after all they have been put through. How truly powerless they were in their fate. Ugh heartbreaking. Can they get out of this spiral? Off to read the next installment
The brothers are bought and brought into Nikolai's ownership. Though they escape the mindless brutality of the Madame's thugs, their torture continues under their new owner's masterful hand, but now there's some logic/purpose/plan in it.
I liked this part better than the first, since now we can truly see the characters of our heroes and how each one reacts to their hardships. The torture that Mat and Dougie endure is just as brutal, but at least I was prepared this time. Most of all I admit I'm intrigued with Mat, how he refuses to bend and strives to keep his dignity even when it seems hopeless. His dedication and love for Dougie too is admirable and makes him my favorite of the two.
I don't know how Nikolai's role will play out eventually, but I can't say I'm a big fan at this point. He may be gentle with Dougie but his sessions with Mat don't endear him at all to me.
I'm very interested to see how this will turn out and if they will manage to escape from this situation.
My god, this was brutal and horrifying. By far one of the darkest books I've ever read, if not the worst. NOT A ROMANCE. TW for absolutely anything you could think of.
This is such a heart wrenching story. Luckily the brothers get somewhat of a break in this one (if you can even call it that). Their new Master is Nikolai, and he kind of refurbishes the slaves he buys and molds them into what a potential buyer would like. So unlike the brutal men who raped Mat and Dougie, this man is all about training. His goal is to beat them down and then reshape them into the perfect slaves for their owners.
Poor poor Mat. Due to his fighters pride, he always seems to get the most brutal attentions. Nikolai is no exception. He plans to condition Mat to keep his fighting spirit but to still be subservient to his Master, which is proving to be a difficult task. Mat is shot up with drugs that make his nervous system go haywire anytime he does something that dissatisfies Nikolai. Meanwhile Dougie is isolated at treated like a baby bird. He's cherished by Nikolai and is given a tender hand by him. But of course, one wrong misstep on Dougie's part will come with ramifications and Dougie soon learns to make sure Nikolai is happy with Dougie.
Gosh, this was another great episode to the story. It wasn't as horrific as the first season was but that could also be because I knew that to expect this time around. I've never read a story before that had me so shocked and disgusted the entire time but still managed to keep me from putting the book down. It's like driving by an accident on the road. We've all done it, rubbernecked to see all the horrible details, this story is no exception.
this is really some of the Most Sickening and Disgusting writing I've ever seen before!!! whether the writers are women or men, i would guess that they are more men than women! probably should be sitting in prison in solitary confinement & definitely they should be on death row! i could never get hard for this shit ! it talks of torturing people over and over again! in really sick ways! by several groups & then 1 who trys to turn 2 brothers into slaves for the rest of their lives! for money by brutality sexual & physical torture by others as well you better have a strong stomach for this shit ! ! !
The book was awesome. Definitely a dose of cold water from my previous book, but still dark all the same. I'm just wondering exactly how long have Mat and Dougie been with Nick?
It's been a few years now since I first read this series, so I'm going to do one overall series review because I can't remember what happens in which episode and don't want to misguide anyone.
Mild spoilers ahead, but not really anything you can't get from the blurbs, but read on at your own risk.
I'm a dark reader. Like, seriously dark. The darker, the better. And The Flesh Cartel pays out, with a vengeance. Mat and his brother Dougie are kidnapped out of their home by a group of brutes whose job it is to literally take pretty young things to be sold into sexual slavery. But it isn't just sexual slavery, it's a billion-dollar underground crime organization known as The Flesh Cartel who pedals in literal human bodies. They have trainers who break the pretty humans only to rebuild them into perfectly obedient slaves, willing to do anything their owners might ask of them and then some.
This series shows us everything. Leaving nothing out. We see the moment Mat and Dougie are taken all the way through to their (very, very eventual) rescue and even on after that. I believe this series is unique in that. Because we see every moment of psychological, physical, mental, and emotional torment and change, from day one, until they are distanced enough from their hell that a cobbled together future can almost be seen. Not the same perfect future they had before their ordeal, but a new version with its own positives (and, certainly, negatives).
If you like dark, and if you want to see a story that takes the reader on the full journey, then I highly recommend this whole series.

In season two, Nikolai Petrovic, a very wealthy man buys Matt and Dougie in order to train them to be perfect slaves. Nikolai procures untrained slaves to make them into obedient and perfect slaves so he can then sell them to his clients. His biggest challenge is in breaking the bond between Matt and Dougie. The psychological torture as well as the physical is brutal. It's heart breaking too. It gets really dark. Both Matt and Dougie are faced with the fact that they are slaves and their basic human rights have been taken from them. Their lives have been erased. Like you would expect, they don't accept this and there are very brutal consequences. There are places where it's brutal to read. My heart went out to Matt and Dougie. I wanted to snatch them up and rescue them. As dark, violent, and twisted as this series is, I absolutely love it. There is so much depth to it and the characters. It's so well written. But I'm going to have to wait a couple of weeks I think before I read the third season. I read the first two back to back and it's pretty gut wrenching. It wrings you out. I think I need to take a breath between two and three.
Let me start with the same warning I gave for season 1: this is not for everyone, if you can't enjoy twisted people doing twisted things to innocent people, walk away... But if it's wickedness you crave, this is definitely an exquisite meal. If in Season 1 the focus was physical pain, in this one things shift a bit. Now they are at the hands of a mastermind sadistic manipulator, a man who claims not to enjoy torture but who never misses a chance to inflict it. Nikolai is everything I hoped he would be, and his unreliable narration is even better than I hoped... This man, how I love him! He has not one single good quality but he will do his best to convince Dougie, Mat, himself and the readers that he only wants the best for the brothers, of course Dougie and Mat are different people and also have different destinies set for them, which means Nikolai has to use different means to break them and reshape them Will there be anything left of who the brothers really are when Nikolai is done with them? Can't wait to find out!
OH MY GOD!! EXQUISITE!! 🖤🖤✨So sooo exquisite, this season of flesh cartel was. The sheer amount of pain and suffering these boys had to go 💀💀......it made my blackened little delicate heart hurt.......but also, their trainer Nikolai ( whom I am falling in love with, such a perfectly psychotic, mind fucking sociopath that he is😏🖤😍😈) is using mind games and beautiful horrible, innovative torture to drive a wedge between the boys which is giving a rush to that mindfuckery and darkness loving part of me.
I mention in reviews of dark books sometimes that "the author didn't hold back here". However, in this series, I can gladly say that that's not the case cuz there was nothing to hold back. It was like the authors had finally unlocked the door to their black hearts and are cheerily swimming in the blood of their dead humanity while sipping the elixir of their characters' pain. 💀💀✨🖤 I am desperate to dive into the next season.😍😈
Reread the first one to refresh myself enough to read this one and reading them back to back is something. This is a dark series and the first of this genre I’ve really read.
I’m not in the head-space to really go for something happy right now which is why I went for this. Just like the first, it is hard to read at times, but just beautifully executed. I like Mat more than Dougie, but both are well-characterized and distinctive. I also really love Nikolai as a character. I didn’t think I would, but he is so interesting and I want to know more.
Gave four stars not five because at a certain point the shock value seemed to pile on and become less shocking. I also did not love the ending. No spoilers, but it didn’t seem realistic to me. Strange, I know, considering everything, but it pulled me out of it.
This was painful….literally for the guys. I usually read some type of romance and my tastes have gotten darker to the point of pitch black. But it still had some type of romance, this is no romance. It’s more dark, psychological erotic horror thriller?
Somehow I’m so invested in Mat & Dougie’s experience I need to see it through. If they can endure being tortured, I can endure reading about it.
The brothers love for one another is so emotional. I hate how their love is being used and manipulated against them. This is such a psychological trip! I really hope they can get out of this situation.
The psychological torture as well as the physical is brutal you can feel all the pain .. The brothers who always been for each other now are separated . In the same house divided by rooms and doors all soundproofed .. Nikolai trains both and his mind fuckery is what does it how to turn the brothers trust to each other to nothing .. just to trust Nikolai.. I became absorbed into the darkness of of this psychological trauma and so much torture read .. Next book in the series now..
If I could stop thinking about Mat and Dougie, I would stop reading this series. Nikolai thinks it's sad that Mat likes to win, because to win someone has to lose. But isn't that the game he is playing? Nikolai and his clients win, Mat and Dougie lose. Mat certainly does anyway.....every time.
This book is so fucking dark seriously! I didn't like the beginning as much as the first one, but then I got into the story and, just, wow. I love the way the characters' psychology is developed and explored. The way they evolve and adapt to their horrific environment is absolutely tragic but also deeply realistic and touching.
Don't go into this expecting an HEA. Or anything even remotely close to a happy moment even. This is a psychosexual thriller/horror and it delivers in stunning fashion.
If Mat isn't rescued I'll have a nervous breakdown. His physical & psychological torture are more than anyone should be able to endure. Hopefully he gets Nikolai alone with a bat.
Still dark dark dark. And honestly still don’t know how I feel. Very annoyed and agitated with Douglas. And can’t say I would ever be who he is. Kinda pushing through to see if there have a HEA or conclusion acceptable.
