Pre-Release Review: This has now become my all time favorite book. The author catches your attention from page one. It's both hilarious and gut wrenching at the same time. Loirte (it's pronounced Lord) is so relatable in every aspect. The emotions are so raw and expressed in the best way. Bob might just be my favorite character. We love Bob. Hearse and Loirte's banter is incredible. The representation of the LGBTQ+ community is much appreciated and executed well. This book had me both laughing and sobbing throughout the experience. The consistency of the pure enjoyment of this book is truly a talent. I didn't lose interest at any point and every time I had to stop reading I wanted to scream. It's so hard to find a book where the ending feels satisfying, and M.L. Kristen did just that. Read it, you won't regret it.
I was introduced to this book in a bookclub, and boy did it send me on a roller coaster of emotions. I'll be honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of Loirte in the beginning. I wanted to root for her but found that I wasn't clicking with her demeanor/personality. But I liked the side characters and the flow of the writing enough to continue reading with ease and enjoyment. Some areas I still have issues with like the rules of time dilation as well as running some jokes into the ground, but I'll admit that those could just be issues for me and no one else haha. Anyway, the writing continued to reel me in and I found Loirte growing on me continually until I felt like I was finally in her shoes by the end of the book. Truly rooting for her like I had wanted to all along! I laughed at times and sobbed buckets during the incredibly beautifully written emotional scenes. I highly recommend giving this indie book a try!
This book was clearly written with a very specific audience in mind. I happen to be that exact audience and I adored it. I raged with Loirte, I laughed with her, I cried with and for her. This book forces the reader to ask difficult questions about life, what they want out of it, and what makes life worth living. Without spoilers, I want to find the author and both shake their hand and shake them. How dare such a cool world be built and have a succinct story like that and not answer every single question I still have. I need closure, I need fanfiction. Maybe a sequel. I don’t know what it would entail, but I want one anyway. I do think that this book needed a couple more rounds of line edits, as the frequent mix up of words like “to” and “too” got to me after a while, so technically I would rate this 4.5 out of 5, but that’s not an option so 5 stars it is.
Okay, so you know that saying, "Nothing is certain in life but death and taxes"? Well… for Loirte—it’s pronounced Lord—that’s way too real. Her afterlife gig? Stuck in the Tax Department of Dead Inc.—processing soul taxes for all eternity. Yeah… hard pass. Loirte’s convinced she’s got more living left to do, and she’s determined to escape the ghostly cubicle farm and make it back to the world of the breathing. Dead Inc. is such a brilliantly sharp satire. It’s like Soul meets the TVA—but with its own totally original twist. I laughed the entire way through—seriously, it’s witty, absurd, and completely addictive. Ten out of ten, highly recommend. If you’re ready for a clever, weird, and wonderful ride through the afterlife—you need this book.
i am so impressed with M LKristen's book. it was witty, the characters were so relatable but had such unique personalities. Hearse is my favorite. I love them forever and always. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat to anyone. I chuckled, I nodded in agreement... I shed a tear or two... The cover art/font matching the vibe of Dead Inc is so subtly clever I hope everyone appreciates it as much as I do.
Dead Inc. is full of heart and humor and will also make you cry. Although this book would benefit from additional proofreading, Loirte's character voice was distinctive and the payoff at the end was worth the read.
