Cat Loaf Adventures is a delightful graphic novel by kat.ariyan that follows a cat-shaped bread loaf and its friends, Rye Loaf and Tabby Loaf. There are multiple short stories told within the book, and each one is more creative and entertaining than the last. I especially loved the storyline where Cat Loaf becomes friends with one of the mousse mice living in the bakery. Rosie the mousse mouse dreams of illustrating her own stamps, and with plenty of encouragement from Cat Loaf, she sets out to make her dream come true.

What I Liked: This is easily one of the most original graphic novel concepts I have come across. A loaf of bread shaped like a cat sounds incredibly weird (and it is), but it totally works, and that is exactly what makes this book so much fun. Even though my ARC of Cat Loaf Adventures only featured a few pages in color, it's clear that the bright, pastel illustrations are absolutely adorable and elevate the story. Plus, the book is packed with genuinely funny bread puns that will make readers of all ages chuckle.

Cat Loaf Adventures is a unique and humorous graphic novel that young readers will enjoy.

I loved everything about this cute comic collection, filled with pastry puns and lovable characters. It follows the adventures of a cat-shaped loaf of bread—aptly named Cat Loaf—along with fellow bakery pals like Rye Loaf and Tabby Loaf, and the new friends Cat Loaf meets along the way, such as Potato, the cat baguette. Each comic offers a different glimpse into the airheaded character’s day-to-day life, including encounters with the hilariously not-so-evil “evil” cinnabuns, who just want to watch their (literal) soap operas on the “tellyvision,” or with “hoomans” eager to take photos of them. The characters learn how to make new friends and break stereotypes. For example, Cat Loaf changes the opinions of the mousse mice who live under the store after helping Rosie, the raspberry mousse mouse, follow her dreams of illustrating stamps. Readers will enjoy the well-illustrated stories paired with humorous writing and will likely learn some positive social skills along the way. ARC provided by the publisher

I can see this being popular with younger readers who enjoy other graphic novels like Cody and Mercado's Cat Ninja, Okorafor and Ford's Space Cat, Brockington's Catstronauts, or comic collections like Dunn's Elvis Puffs Out or Schade and Buller's Scarlett: Star on the Run.

This is fairly text heavy, so I would take a look at this before purchasing for an elementary library.

Cat Loaf Adventures is a fun, silly jaunt, chock full of puns and cuteness. I think a lot of kids are gonna really enjoy this one. And though the premise and humour aims it generally toward a younger reader, there are a good number of jokes that adults will appreciate, too, making it feel like an all-ages read. As long as you like pastry, cats, and - I cannot stress this enough - puns.
So many puns.

Cat Loaf is tedious but I would, and I do not say this lightly, die for Rye Loaf and Potato the Baguette Cat.
