Sick of being objectified and passed over because of her looks and long, blonde hair, River Anderson heads to an expensive bar to drown her sorrows. The male elite are all the same. Privileged. Entitled. Bored. They think they can turn on the charm and you’ll come running with your panties swinging around your knees. Is it too much to ask that she’s seen for her skills, for her acumen, for the years of education?
Walking out of that interview put her directly in the path of Everett Van Cort, though. He was all of the above, and everything she hated. Gorgeous, obviously. Stern. Distant. With perfectly fitted suits and hypnotic green eyes to drown in. Somehow, one drink turned into more.
There was a mansion in the wilderness, and gold, and luxury beyond compare. She just needed to keep her feelings straight, because Everett Van Cort was a risk she would never advise. Then things got complicated.
Lines blurred. Feelings shifted. Even his armour softened, showing a glimpse of the man underneath. He'd let her in.
Or at least that’s what she thought.
Van Cort is a complicated love story, told over dual timelines and differing POVs
Hailing from the depths of the quiet British countryside, Charlotte likes nothing better than sinking into her characters dark and devious world's. Sometimes they're kinky, sometimes they're twisted, and sometimes they're a serious hold on tight situation, but her stories are always filled with romance and love in some form.
This was bloody amazing, and I was riveted throughout. It might just be my favourite book yet by this author team, and that's saying something, as I love and highly rate them all. Now, I just have to work out how to review this without giving any details. My biggest piece of advice though is to go into this one blind avoid reviews and any potential spoilers.
This is Everett Van Cort and River Spring Anderson’s story, and boy, is it messy. It has some unexpected twists and turns that I honestly didn't see coming, and it was such an emotional rollercoaster that my feelings throughout were all over the place. I loved the style of narration and how we also got a glimpse into the past. It explained so much, adding such nuance and depth to what then follows.
It's a beautiful but twisted love story with some dark themes and it had me in a bloody chokehold throughout. I just couldn't put this down I was that invested in what I was reading. I also can't stop thinking about it all now that it's over which is always a sign it managed to dig down deep. Finally, the epilogue was beautiful and bloody perfection.
Highly recommend reading this especially if you like yourself a unique story that is also exceptionally well written. If I could give this more than five stars I would. Everyone needs to add this book to the top of their TBR right now.
⭐️ The thing is, though, if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with you, and I don’t regret a single thing about that.⭐️
⭐️ Every time I touch you, the memories disappear. Every time you touch me, the future calls in a way I never thought possible. And every time I wake up next to you, something eases inside me.⭐️
There is so much I want to say about this book BUT if I do it will give away so many twists. So bare with!
I loved this story as it was a lot different to what I usually read, dark, twisted and a little bit unhinged in some of the BEST ways. The first twist that came had me actually GASPING. It was so unexpected.
It was one of those stories that plays on your mind every time you step away from it, and even after you finish you still think about parts of it.
The only small thing I wish is that we could’ve had more of them together, or more of their lives later on. But all in all I really enjoyed it!
Everett Van Cort is a business man and a millionaire. He sleeps with women once and that’s it. He doesn’t contact them again. Once is enough. He meets River (Andie) - a financial analyst - at a wedding. She was getting annoyed by her work so she decided to have a drink at a bar not realising a wedding is happening. Everett and River go on a few dates but again he wants sex once that’s it. But he can’t stop thinking about her. Loved this story and the characters. There are multiple POVs moving from past and present. There is past trauma from Everett. There are twists in this story that shocked me and I didn’t even know. Read it and find out for yourselves.
If you love a dark, twisted read, you will love this dark romance read. The authors have you turning the pages with all the twists and turns that you dont see coming. Everett had a terrible childhood under the rule of his father due to his mother's death in childbirth and his father making Everett pay over his lifetime. Everett is the head of the Van Cort corporation and is a womaniser with a life of one-night stands. Until the day he meets River (Andie) and everything changes, she is the woman he has been looking for. River gatecrashes a wedding accidentally when she stops in for a drink after work, where she has her first encounter with Everett. I dont like to tell you too much more about the story, or it will spoil it for you. The book alternates between POV between the present and the past. I received an arc for my voluntary honest review for NN Book Blog. If you love a dark, twisted, steamy romance that is hard to put down, you will love this book. Those twists you dont see coming blow you away, and you wonder if River will ever get her HEA.
This was my first Hart De Lune book and I loved it!
I went in to it blind, not sure what to expect and im glad i did as it was page turning! The twists and turns kept me engaged throughout. It was such a lovely dark and twisted romance I could not wait to see how it all played out!
Everett Van Cort has not had the best upbringing. He was raised by an abusive father and has grown up quite stoic with his defences up! He is the eternal bachelor with no interest in women passed the one night. That is until he meets Andie and everything changes. I was totally here for watching their relationship play out! i loved how Andie stood up to him and put him in his place when needed.
I will definitely be reading more from this talented duo in the future and cannot wait to see what they bring us next.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the Author and this is my honest opinion
Wow, just wow!! As I was reading, I felt something was not quite right, but I never saw that plot twist coming. Absolute genius.
This has to be one of my top reads this year!
Yet again, Hart de Lune have put their readers through the wringer with this, their latest book, a standalone.
All those secrets, with flashbacks to the past throughout, this book kept me on tenterhooks all the way through. It was messy, beautiful, angsty and heartbreaking. I didnt know how Van Cort and River (Andie) were going to get their heads, life and love sorted, or if they even could. What a journey!
I’m not sure what to say about this book without some major spoilers. The different timelines and multiple POV’s had me confused more than once, my fault because I don’t always read the title heading. The story is very different than what I usually read but also very intriguing. I did not like Rhette at first, he was very demanding and lacked personality in my opinion. I honestly don’t know what River saw in him. But through the story I ended up liking him over everyone else. I’m not sure what else to say without revealing something I shouldn’t so I’ll just say pick up this book and read it.
Wowwwww. This story!!! So many twists and turns that I never saw coming. It kept me intrigued and I couldn’t put it down.
This dark romance is full of spice and everything…not so nice…??? Our MMC is super complicated and guarded; possessive and bossy. Our FMC wants to be seen for who she is — smart, calculated, professional. I love that she speaks her mind and doesn’t shy away from such a powerful man. She takes him on and challenges him in the best of ways.
I can’t go into too much detail without sharing spoilers so I’ll keep it short. Definitely a must read if you like your dark — dark; and your spicy — spicy.
This writing duo have done it again and released an intriguing and interesting story about the romance between Everett Van Cort and River Spring Anderson. This dark and complex story is told in multiple POV’s - both in the present and the past.
They meet when she is in need of a drink after an interview for a new job. He is there for a wedding and rescues her from a guy hitting on her at the bar. He then invites her out to dinner and their slow burn relationship begins.
River aka Andie is a financial analyst who constantly battles for her position. She is very independent and has strong views about rich and entitled men.
Everett aka Rhett is an extremely wealthy man running the family business. He is very formal and suffers from the traumas of his childhood. He has a liking for blondes but only has one night stands.
The twists in this story are unexpected and totally surprised me. The main one made the rest of the book a fascinating read. Andie fights for what she wants especially as Everett seems to need pushing sometimes. He is shocked by his unexpected feelings towards her and starts thinking about them having a future together, however, everything is not as it seems.
There is mystery and suspense throughout. The scenes from the past come at the right times and help to explain some of Everett’s actions and thoughts.
Do try and read this before you see any spoilers as the main twist is what makes the book. Thankfully after all that happens we get a satisfying epilogue to finish an amazing book.
Wow. Once again, Hart De Lune have left me speechless and delivered another all-time favourite read!
This story had me absolutely glued from start to finish - it’s incredible. Truly outstanding. There’s a major twist that completely shifts everything about Everett and River’s journey, and the anticipation at every turn had me hooked (and maybe a little fearful too!).
I sincerely hope you get to experience this story without any spoilers. It’s told brilliantly through multiple POVs, moving between present and past timelines. I loved this structure - it added so much depth. The slow reveal of information about Van Cort was thought-provoking, and the potential consequences of certain actions layered the mystery and suspense even further. The possibilities felt endless, and I genuinely couldn’t predict what would happen next - which always earns a big tick from me.
River is a character I absolutely adore, and her part in this journey stirred so many emotions. Having her voice and inner thoughts included gave real clarity and understanding to the events that unfolded. She was portrayed brilliantly throughout.
My feelings toward Van Cort shifted as the story progressed. The glimpses into the past gave me so much more insight and made me constantly reassess how I felt. And the epilogue? That sealed it for me completely.
I won’t say more - just please read this. You won’t be disappointed, I can promise you that.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is the story of River and Everett. I will warn you that once you pick up this book, you will not be able to lay it down. It is messy and emotional roller coaster ride you don't want to get off of. Everett is a businessman and loaded. He is a man that can't or won't do relationships. It is one and done with him. River is a financial analyst and these two meet at a wedding. Her job is annoying and she is tired of men thinking that pretty girls are theirs for the taking. From the moment their eyes hook when she crashes the bar of this wedding, I think the man that only had one time on his mind, might just change his mind. I don't know that I can say more. I feel like there are twists and turn and things you won't see coming and that all needs to be uncovered as you read. It is a book told in dual point of view with the past and the present being told. I always love getting more of the back story. I love these two. Even if they are a mess at times. You do not want to miss this book.
Everytime I get the chance to read a book by these two, I absolutely jump at the opportunity. I am always blown away by their ability to to weave together characters that are deep, have history and find ways to surprise you that you definitely did not think possible. This book definitely has a character, in E, that you will love to hate. He will give you lots of reasons and something just feels a bit off about him. The authors have given us tons of depth in his personality to really build that persona and make us wonder just what is up with him and the person he his. That niggle you get when you know someone is hiding something. I loved the flow of the book and how we felt we were getting closer to the characters, and really building an understanding of them, but still knew there was something building int the background. It kept me on the edge of my seat. Then, boom, you get hit with the twist of all twists to really blow your mind. It will make you wonder if you know anything at all, or ever did, but also make all those pieces fall into place. It was perfection. I absolutely loved it his book.
I am sure all my reviews are cliche when I say I have never not liked a Hart De Lune book except it is true!
Van Cort was... phew I thought I knew what direction the book was going to take and I was so wrong. Pieces, yes, as a whole, nope!
Andie (or River, depending on who is talking to her) is looking for a new job. Her job is fine but she could be doing so much more. I will admit, when she is looking for a job, it was starting to sound very Fifty Shades but then it promptly disabused us of that notion. Now, does she find someone hot and working in a nice building? Yes, but not like that. Instead she finds him at a wedding reception she accidentally crashes. Everett Van Cort, ridiculously rich, not so charmed life.
Dating Van Cort is so wishy-washy. One day he is stoic on their date and another he is full of life and fun. It is almost like he is two separate people. Andie has no clue why he is like that but she is determined to find out why. Especially when she starts to fall in love with him but not sure which of his personalities she enjoys more. She will have to figure it out though, especially if this is a long term thing.
You know when you have an author/authors who when they bring out another novel it automatically goes to the tbr, this is me with Hart de Lune, and Van Cort does not disappoint.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this standalone novel- ones where you think one thing and actually you are taken in a completely different direction. Everett is a man with a traumatic history who does not have relationships, that is until he comes upon River (Andie) who gate-crashes a wedding he is attending and the thought of being with one person for longer becomes appealing. River is in a job where she is not valued and is learning she deserves more. When she and Everett begin their "dating" things aren't as they seem.
Van Cort has some darker themes so please read the TWs. Thank you to Hart de Lune for the opportunity to arc read Van Cort. All comments are my own.
Everett Van Cort is a complicated man, and you just want to keep diving into his story. Charlotte Hart and Rachel De Lune have a way of writing together that brings out the best (and the most deliciously depraved) characteristics of MMC’s. Charlotte makes them cold, untouchable, and unattainable. Rachel polishes them to rare and multi faceted diamonds. Everett is a fascinating character, and River Spring Anderson could have written him off as a one and done with his not calling for days. She felt used, but went back for more because of the pull she had towards him. There are so many layers to Everett and River’s love story. It is totally unconventional but beautifully written by the dynamic duo of Hart/De Line. I loved that it is a stand alone, and the multiple POV’s kept you tearing through the pages. I highly recommend.
I have to confess I did not like Everett at the beginning and his lack of remorse did nothing to change my mind but his letter to River made me cry so I think that makes him the quintessential anti-hero. West did not have enough depth for me but together they are a powerful force to be reckoned with. The initial twist was quite a shock but set the stage beautifully for the rest of the story. How Rhett didn’t kill his father amazes me, but so many of the expected events did not happen and that is what keeps the reader riveted to the story along with all the unexpected twists and turns. The epilogue was a lovely way to release some of the tension and make the reader contented. A fascinating story.
Holy Cow! another fantastic book from the pair that make Hart De Lune!! What a ride they take you on, Everett Van Court, filthy rich from birth, River Spring Anderson or Andie as she prefers, a hard working female in a world where she is as scrutinized as the numbers she works with. After an unfortunate job interview, Andie decides to grab a well deseved glass of wine, and that there starts the unbelievable journey she takes with the mysterious Everett Van Court, His personality is like he is two different people. But Andie will find out there is a reason for this. What is Everett hiding in his past? And will he decide to open up and reveal what he is hiding? Will Andie get the job she deserves? and will she put up with the man who cant seem to decide what he wants.
Where to begin? I know that Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune always throw a spanner in the works to shake things up...but this went far beyond their usual earthshattering moments! It's a slow burn. It lulled me into a false sense of security. And then BAM!!! I wondered if I was reading it properly, and had to go back a bit to check. Those devious authors well and truly had me going... then they did it AGAIN!!! By the time I was half way through, I was so invested that there was never any chance that I wouldn't finish this tale and give it a well deserved 5 stars! It was gripping reading!!!
OMG this book is a GOOD one! This is Everett “Rhett” Van Cort and River “Andie” Anderson’s story. There is a twist involved with this couple. No spoilers here but it’s a big one.
I LOVE this book! I love it when Hart and De Lune get together because they write one hella a story!
There are “dual timelines and differing points of view” that make the story told a little confusing at times, so I really had to pay attention to some of the details. But it is so worth it!
5 STARS for this book! I am looking forward to the next story that these two authors will write. Either together or by each of them separately!
When this gorgeous duo get together to write, we not only get books with beautiful covers & spines we get some fantastic words written inside.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers for this because they’ve managed to post about the Van Cort family and not give anything away :)
What I will say is, right from the get go you’ll go into a world that has you questioning some things but go with it because the tension and some dark themes that leaks throughout will keep you turning those pages until all the twists become clearer ;)
Well done ladies I didn’t expect the twist and boy I was not prepared 😂
Again another knockout story from these two fantastic authors. Here we meet the beautiful River and Everett the stern business man. River is feeling fed up around work people not seeing her for her mind, heads for a drink and meets standoffish Everett. The man who never sees a woman more than once, I am not going to say more as I do not want to give away any of the plot. It is a fantastic read, fulls of twists that you do not predict and cannot see coming, also emotional at times. I absolutely bloody loved this a highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read
This is my first book by this amazing duo and it won’t be my last. They were able to hook me in with a slow burner, plenty of spicy moments and - omg - so many twists and turns that I just didn’t see coming. When starting this book I wasn’t too sure about Everett, but as the story went on he grew on me. I just love River! How she will just speak her mind is great. This story is beautifully written - hitting some very hard and dark themes
Woah! What an interesting read Van Court was. I was not prepared for the twist. I did not see that coming at all. I really liked all the detail of the past. It truly helped me understand Everett. My feelings were all over the place the whole book. I had the same thoughts Andie did. I kept wondering when “it” was going to happen-no spoilers! Whenever I read a Hart De Lune book I’m always on the edge of my seat and my expression is always 😳 in the best way!
Yet another fab and twisted read by the pair that are Hart De Lune! Jam packed with twists and secrets that leave you unable to put the book down until the very last words! So much i want to say but I cannot give away any spoilers but I can say that Everett and River will leave you going through lots of emotions and feelings while reading! Hart De Lune always manage to bring a uniqueness while writing, whether its in the characters or story and this read is no different!
I read a lot of books and can generally work out what’s going to happen next but this one really had me stuck in the unknown. I enjoyed it but maybe not the Lara part so much. I loved watching this come together in the end though and seeing the happiness that came out and Everett finding some happy in his darkness.
34% and the second time he’s said the h is dull, then says but she’s beautiful. Ack. I hate both of them. Her for liking him. Him for being a dick. I’m out.
