When the mayor of Fairway is killed, Angus finds himself thrust into a confusing case of bribery and corruption. While many in the city rejoice over the mayor’s death, the investigation is a nightmare for the police.
Lance wants to be supportive, but when the mayor’s ghost figures out Lance can see and hear her, she won’t leave him alone. Insisting they solve the case as soon as possible, she follows him around, bringing chaos to Lance’s usually simple life.
Feeling stress from every angle, both Angus and Lance struggle to handle everything going on without letting it affect their relationship. Everyone is working to close the case, but it isn’t easy when the victim refuses to share information that could lead to her killer.
Someone is hiding something, and it’s up to Angus and Lance to figure out exactly what that is.
E.M. Leya lives surrounded by the beautiful mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah with her amazing daughter and loving pets. She is passionate about the world we live in and current events, deeming herself a "news junkie". She believes that we are all here to create something beautiful, whether it's through our talents or our actions. She enjoys writing stories that take us deep into real world problems while showing that love can happen for anyone, regardless of how dark their past might be.
the book, plot, mystery does feel particularly well written or thought through. It’s a miss for me.
Rating: 3🌈
I’ve been a fan of the author and this paranormal series for some time now but Ghostly Bother, the ninth book in the series, didn’t hit as well as the rest of the stories. The storyline, the main characters , the ghost of the plot, everything all came with some sort of flags or issues with the dynamics or functionality in the narrative that bothered me.
One is the mayor Eden, a nasty woman, who took bribes, was a selfish person and, even in the afterlife is a personality bordering on oblivious selfish self interest and cruelty. Spoiler. She walks into the light after being a bad person in both the living and the afterlife. Strike 1.
Because she’s a huge player here in the story and has an enormous role in the next element that put up flags for me.
That’s the relationship dynamic between Lance, who can interact with the ghosts, and Angus, his detective lover who can’t. But Angus, who has lived with his mother and her best friend, also a ghost, is familiar with ghosts and how they can impact the living.
So does he (and author Leya) write into their relationship one of an established understanding and support when Lance is constantly harassed 24/7 by Eden, unable to find rest or do his job? No, instead of the dynamic that’s been built of steady work and love, it’s demolished by one act of lack of respect and understanding. This aspect of the story has little foundation based on the previous books and the relationship the author has been building.
Nor does the quick resolution to this particular problem seem likely or believable. It just doesn’t make sense.
Unfortunately, the book, plot, mystery does feel particularly well written or thought through. It’s a miss for me.
Hopefully the next book will see a return to the original series path.

FUCK eden, she's fucking annoying, a cheater, a fucking thief & a poor excuse of a mayor.
i wish there was an actual way of exorcising a fucking ghost like her. i do not like how much she interfered with lance & anguss' life. angus should have gotten his mother involved sooner!
also at this point angus should just start seeing ghosts, its about time!
I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good conclusion to the Ghostly Series. All I can say is that the mayor aka Eden is a b*tch, in both life and death. The epilogue was my favourite part as it shows that Lance is ready to eventually take the next step with Angus, whenever he feels like the time is right. I don’t fault Angus for leaving for a bit as he thought that if he wasn’t at home that Eden would stop hounding Lance for answers and being extremely disruptive at all hours of the day, especially while he’s trying to work.
I do think that he went about it the wrong way and that he should’ve discussed things with Lance before just deciding on the spot, then telling him he was leaving as if I was Lance I’d feel abandoned by Angus. It didn’t take them too long to sort things out between them but Eden definitely caused a lot of issues before and after her death. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series as it continues, as well as more books by EM Leya in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to others.
This one is a good mystery but like previous books it really needs better editing. The continuity errors are ridiculous and interrupt the flow of the narrative.
As far as the story goes, it’s interesting that Lance finally has to deal with an obnoxious ghost. The reasoning for the ghost’s behavior is pretty lame though. Not believable. And it wasn’t too hard to figure out who the killer is though you would think the cops would have caught on quicker.
Still these are enjoyable reads and would just be that much better if the author would get a better editor/proofreader.
Lance and Angus are back this time investigating the mayor's murder. The mayor turns out to be a nasty ghost, wanting answers from Lance when he cant give them and telling him she wants answers from Angus. Betty plays a big part in this as she meets the mayor and tries to keep her contained. This book says 9 of 9. I hope thats not true as I want to see Lance propose and the marriage afterwards.
The mayor is dead and more trouble dead than when alive. Eden doesn’t want to help find her murderer like the other ghosts Lance has dealt with, she just wants all the information she can get and won’t let up on Lance. Driving a wedge between Lance and Angus, she puts strain on their relationship but the other ghosts come together to help. Another good one in the series.
It’s sad this series is coming to an end. And I’m sorry we don’t get to see a wedding with all the ghost involved. It would be a hoot. Someone killed the corrupt mayor and her ghost is one piece of nasty. Talk about being haunted, poor Lance gets no peace with the nagging mayor. For once it was easy to predict the killer, but the mystery for me was where did she hide all the money she was embezzling. Overall a great series. Going to miss them.
I have finished book 9 of this series, I’m hoping the author has at least one more in their pocket. Overall, the series is very good. It makes one think about what is really going to happen after death. If this scenario was true, I think it would be wonderful for a life after death. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed in reading these books. The characters are engaging and likable.
Lance and Angus are back again and this time it's another murder to solve and the ghostly adventures continue and the deceased it a right pain and it pushes poor Lance to the edge. I love this series and the guys and ghosts.
I could read about Angus and Lance forever. With all of their cohorts along for the ride. This story drove me a little crazy with the mayor, but the ending was great.
