I escaped my mafia family years ago to protect my sons, but everything changes with a forbidden man, two stalkers, a bounty on my head, and blood on my hands.
Asher Scott is my twin sons’ best mate, so when he needs a place to stay after getting out of prison, I don’t hesitate. I tell myself I’m helping the broken boy I once knew, not inviting temptation into my home.
I shouldn’t crave Asher the way I do, but he’s not a boy anymore. He’s obsessed, relentless, and far too comfortable with the darkness I try to hide, like he sees me more clearly than I see myself, igniting something wild and untamed that has me breaking all the rules I swore I’d keep.
But the closer he gets, the more my secrets unravel. And when the underworld comes knocking, loving him might cost me everything, yet walking away could be deadlier for us all.
********** Readers who love intense, spicy dark romance with a significant age-gap, a morally grey FMC, an obsessive MMC with a “touch her and die” mentality, high stakes, high heat, and criminal underworld elements, will devour this story.
Dirty Deadly & Mine is Book 1 in the Marx Empires Series, which is a dark, forbidden reverse age-gap mafia romance. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone, while the ruling power, secrets, and danger of the Marx Empire continue across the series. (Please refer to authors website for trigger warnings)
Sarah JD, also known as Sarah Jane Duncan, is a dark romance author living in Australia with Mr Duncan who stole her off the market back in high school. Sarah can be found in her writing room plotting out her next smut filled romance filled with angst, violence, and themes so dark you should probably question why you love it so much.
Sarah writes about strong females who have to fight against the odds to find their power, their voice, and their truth. Her heroines possess the strength that only comes from being a survivor, and through their trauma, battles and struggles, they learn to trust again, and find love.
There’s nothing easy about their stories. They are hard, gritty, and painfully heartbreaking at times. But what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, right? And when you throw in a swoon worthy guy, or an alphahole that you just want to slap, but also fall to your knees and obey, it’s the recipe for a rollercoaster ride.
So buckle up. Read the warnings. And let yourself get lost in the dark stories Sarah creates.
This book was filthy but omg I loved every bit of it I ate it up like a starved beast. Asher was just delicious and bam right from the start he had that sexual tension strung so tight you wanted to burst. I was putty in his hands reading this book. Then we have Lily who is a soccer mum by day and then she’s something else entirely and I’m here for it. Flipping adored her. These two are a match made in heaven they were on fire. The banter was so so good with everyone I was in fits at times. I loved meeting Barrett and all the side characters and some old favs in this book. But from start to finish I ate this book up I couldn’t put it down. All the twists and secrets and coverups the plot was plotting so you get a great story with al that filth. I need to go to church after this one Sarah JD. If you like secret identities and mafia and a badass FMC with a reverse age gap and a very dirty inventive MMC then you’ll luv this book.
To begin with can I just say that I loved the reverse age gap with Lily (FMC) being a maturer (even though I would class her as old at all) woman and a younger man. I can count on one hand the amount of books that I've read with this dynamic but I loved it because it's great to see a representation of my age in books. We need more of this!
Lily is a contradiction of a character. A sweet mum/woman who has had hidden depths and plenty of secrets. With her twin sons having just flown the nest she's having to rebuild a life on her own. Only for Asher (her son's best friend) to become her unofficial housemate. Close proximity and a long held crush (on Asher's side) starts off a lot of flirting and steamy scenarios between the both of them.
As the book progressed we gradually found out more about Lily's extracurricular activities which she's been keeping a secret from everyone. My - flaming - word did these two characters steamy up my Kindle and I loved reading it so much. It made for some crackingly brilliant plot twists and turns mixed in with the heat. As well as some characters that I'm sure will be popping up in future books (I can't wait for that!!). It was one hell of a start to this series and such a bloody great read.
This was so good! Per usual, Sarah wrote an amazing and interesting FMC. Lily is one of my favorite characters ever! Asher... But also AJ... I need to know more but maybe? I cannot wait for the next one! The book hangover is going to be rough!
With Dirty, Deadly, & Mine, the first full installment in the Marx Empire series, Sarah JD delivers a bold, emotionally charged story that blends taboo romance, suspense, and the raw complexities of trauma. Readers who were introduced to the Marx Empire in Sinning for Santa will find this novel an even deeper dive into the dangerous, layered world Sarah has created. At the center of the story is Lily, a woman who escaped her powerful Australian mafia family two decades earlier and rebuilt her life in England under a new identity. Now divorced and raising nineteen‑year‑old twin sons, she believes she has finally carved out a quiet existence—until Asher reenters her life. Once her sons’ best friend and practically a third child in her home, Asher has returned from prison hardened, determined, and carrying a long‑buried infatuation for the woman who once offered him safety when he had none. The reverse age‑gap dynamic—seventeen years between them—paired with the “best friend’s mother” taboo creates a tension that Sarah JD handles with surprising emotional nuance. Lily’s reluctance is rooted not only in social boundaries but in her own history of control, fear, and survival. Asher, shaped by a violent upbringing and the harsh realities of incarceration, is equally complex. Both characters are navigating trauma, secrecy, and the consequences of choices made long before their story begins. What elevates the novel is the way Sarah intertwines romance with mystery and suspense. Secrets simmer beneath the surface, threatening not just Lily and Asher’s fragile connection but their lives. The stakes feel real, and the pacing keeps readers engaged as the danger surrounding them slowly sharpens into focus. True to Sarah JD’s style, the novel includes explicit intimate, at times filthy, content, but it is the emotional intensity—grief, longing, fear, and fierce loyalty—that anchors the story. Themes of found family run throughout, offering moments of warmth amid the darker elements. Sarah has a gift for pulling readers into her characters’ inner worlds, making their pain and joy feel immediate. Because the book explores heavy topics and includes potentially triggering material, readers should take care to review the trigger warnings beforehand to ensure their comfort and well‑being. Dirty, Deadly, & Mine is a gripping start to the Marx Empire series—bold, suspenseful, and emotionally resonant. Sarah JD proves once again her ability to craft characters who linger long after the final page.
OMG! If you want a story that raises your temperature, has you squirming in your seat and constantly blushing, then Sarah JD's DIRTY, DEADLY & MINE is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ. Sarah has outdone herself with the tension, danger, suspense, and the spice ... OMG the spice, it was top tier! The age gap, the "taboo" best friend's mother, the vigilante assasin, the mysterious stalker, the hidden identity, you just can't pass this one up with tropes like these.
Lily Bennett, a 37 year old single mum, has a deep dark secret that only one other person knows about, or so she thinks. Lily is a badass, she's strong, resilient, a business woman, and a dedicated, loving mother. Asher Scott is a 20 year old who definitelydoesn't lack in confidence. After being released from prison his stays with Lily, the mother of his two best friends and the woman he has crushed on for years. Asher is filthy, sinful to the bone, and I was all for it. He's dark, broody and god forbid if someone looks at Lily the wrong way. He is a man obsessed.
The chemistry between Lily and Asher is off the charts, they burn HOT! Asher is no longer the boy Lily once knew and he makes it know, loud and clear, that he wants her. She is trouble by her reaction to her sons best friend and worries about their reaction, yet she can't deny her growing feeling toward him. I adored the evolution of their relationship, the quiet tender moments, the fact they couldn't keep their hands off each other, the manner in which they were protective of each other. Then there's the spice ... it's decadent, delicious, and oh so consuming.
DIRTY, DEADLY & MINE is not just about a taboo relationship, it is so much more. There's danger, secrets, family tension, twist and turns, revenge, and even humour. Sarah's writing is simply exquisite, the methods she uses to draw her readers in, peeling back the layers of her characters, delivering a story which is not only addictive it is also filled with all the emotions, brilliant banter, mafia connections, and two main characters you'll never forget. This is Sarah JD at her best.
Originally published as part of the Scandalous Secrets series, this reworked version now launches the Marx Empire—and what a debut it is. To say I’m excited for this series would be an understatement.
Revisiting Lily and Asher’s story felt like experiencing it all over again. Some moments were familiar, others sparked that “oh yeah” recognition, and the new material blended in seamlessly. It’s genuinely impressive how Sarah JD has taken an already compelling story and elevated it to perfectly fit this darker, richer world.
This book delivers everything: angst, mystery, assassins, family drama, gang politics, and nail-biting suspense—all wrapped in a gritty, addictive romance. Dirty, Deadly, & Mine is exactly what the title promises.
The reverse age-gap dynamic (which we don’t see nearly enough of) is handled so well. Lily is fierce, complex, and unapologetically powerful—a true standout FMC. She’s not just a suburban mum; she’s a force to be reckoned with, a Marx through and through. Asher is equally compelling—intense, determined, and carrying years of tension that absolutely ignites the page. Their chemistry? Off the charts. The slow-burn tension between them is electric and completely consuming.
What really elevates this story is the depth beneath the spice. Yes, it’s steamy—very steamy—but it’s also layered with secrets, trauma, loyalty, and power struggles. The suspense keeps you hooked, constantly questioning what’s coming next, while the emotional weight gives the romance real impact.
I also loved diving deeper into the Marx family. We’ve had glimpses before, but this book truly opens the door to their empire—and I am all in. The side characters, especially Barrett, have me desperate for more.
From start to finish, I couldn’t put this book down. It’s gritty, intense, addictive, and brilliantly written. Sarah JD has absolutely outdone herself, and I cannot wait to see where this series goes next.
If you love dark, forbidden romance with action, suspense, and a strong, older female lead—this is a must-read.
Sarah J. D does it again. If you’ve loved any of her previous books, you’re probably going to devour this one too because it is definitely her vibe. Dark, filthy, emotional, chaotic, addictive, and packed with characters who are a little unhinged, but in the best way.
I found myself hooked by the twists and turns throughout this beautiful read. There were genuinely a few moments that caught me off guard.
Lily and Asher absolutely carried this book for me. Lily isn’t just a mum. She’s a woman carrying secrets, trauma, responsibility, and a whole lot of sexual frustration until Asher bulldozes his way back into her life. And Asher? Completely obsessed, slightly terrifying, probably criminally insane, but somehow also sweet underneath all the darkness. The man worships her entirely and I ate it up.
The taboo reverse age gap was EVERYTHING. Was the spice quick to start and maybe a little unbelievable? Absolutely. Did I care? Not even slightly. It was filthy, addictive, delicious, and honestly impossible to stop reading once those two gave in to each other. Beneath all the spice though, there actually was something emotional there. Watching Lily fight against the taboo nature of their relationship while Asher loved her so unapologetically made their connection feel deeper than just lust.
The mafia and family secret side of things definitely gives classic Sarah J. D energy too. Dangerous families, violence, suspense, hidden truths, obsession, all the things her readers love.
At this point I’ll read literally anything Sarah writes because every single one of her books has been 5 stars for me. Even after all the hooks dropped throughout this story, I’m ridiculously excited to see where the rest of the Empire series goes next.
If you love mafia romance, taboo relationships, obsessive MMCs, filthy spice, and morally questionable chaos, this one is absolutely worth the read.
As an avid but fairly new reader of Sarah's books, I never got to read Lily's Ash, the book that built the foundation for Dirty, Deadly & Mine, but as soon as Sarah mentioned that it was being rewritten as the start of a new series about the Marxes, a few of whom have made appearances in some of her more recent books, I was thrilled. Then she said it would be a reverse age gap romance between a thirty-seven-year-old woman and her sons' twenty-year-old best friend, and I thought, "Could it get any better?" Well, let me tell you, if you want a dark mafia romance with forbidden love and all the complicated relationships, emotional drama, intrigue, steam, suspense, and violence that the genre entails, you could not do any better than this book.
Sarah always has a lot going on in her books, and she's so good at making me invested in all of it. She never fails to tie most of it together for a satisfying story while leaving some tantalizing secrets for the next book in the series. Watching Lily (reluctantly) and Asher (eagerly) fall in love with each other while keeping dangerous and relationship-ruining secrets was so much fun. I loved the initial push and pull of their relationship as boundaries were tested, and as it evolved, I loved the depth of their feelings, the guilt and worry it inevitably caused, their ultimate willingness to fight for and trust in each other, and the not only witty but also absolutely filthy banter and scorching chemistry between them. I also loved the adolescent banter between Asher and Lily's twins, Jude and Ronan, as well as the banter and tension between Asher and Lily's cousin Barrett, who easily became one of my favorite characters. His snark is hilarious, and his loyalty to Lily as he hides her from their family while giving her an outlet for her vigilante tendencies is admirable.
It was wonderful to see Lily's brother Devon and cousin Griffin again, and I'm so glad we readers will get to see even more of the Marx family in future books, including Barrett and his mystery woman in the next one. Will their HEA be as sweet and twisted as Lily and Asher's? I can't wait to see how this entire series unfolds, and I'm excited to see whether a certain patriarch will lose his empire to the next generation after all his evil machinations.
Holy hell, Sarah JD writes the filthiest spicy scenes. I was SWEATING. There were many interval breaks required while reading Dirty, Deadly & Mine. And yes, I mean exactly what you’re thinking.
This book was INTENSE in every aspect. The characters, the stakes, the sex...it was just…WOW.
This seriously taboo dark romance was such a good time. As a woman in her thirties, it’s always welcome to read a book with a mature FMC, and Lily was no exception. She is the definition of feminine rage, fiercely independent, and as capable as they come - the perfect recipe for an epic vigilante serial killer. Our MMC, Asher, is the best friend of Lily’s twin sons, and an ex-con who is entirely obsessed with Lily and the ultimate temptation wrapped in a tattooed, muscled package. And he knows what to do with his package.
This book had so many explicit scenes, but they were so diverse, incredibly descriptive and increasingly unhinged, that they never felt repetitive. In fact, I definitely learned things about myself in the process.
The suspenseful subplot was layered, and kept me guessing with it’s twists, turns, and numerous players. I was completely engaged until the end.
The side characters were strong, with an underlying intrigue into their history and motivations. The way these characters were incorporated into the main plot was seamless. I’m absolutely invested in their stories and will definitely be reading the next book in the Marx Empire series.
Highly recommend - though definitely check your triggers!!
Thank you to the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
If you’ve had your fill of age gap romance and want to read an angsty reverse age gap, this story is for you…
Lily has a secret, Lily is not just a hairdresser, nor is she just a Mum to twins, she’s so much more. Her son’s friend Asher, also has secrets and his life has not been without its upheavals, a short prison term means he has to become more but his one rock is Lily. What follows is a spicy relationship that Lily feels is wrong on so many levels, the secrets they hold may be their downfall…Will they learn about each other before it’s too late? Will there be tears before bedtime?
Honestly, I love Sarah’s writing, once you start reading her books you feel a part of their world. The fact we have a strong FMC seeking to right the world on her own is great in itself, then we get pieces of her background and that just means you want to know more. There are plenty of spicy times obviously with a 17 year age gap they want to delve deeper 🤭 We are privy to what makes them both tick with the darkness they both possess, violence, t0rture, lost family, and so much more. Love the little twists, Sarah leaves us wanting more of the Marx family and answers to questions we are left trying to figure out. Can’t wait for the next book in the series 🫶🏻
Dirty, deadly and mine is the first book in the marx empire series.
This story focuses on Lily who escaped the clutches of her family 20 years ago to protect her twin sons. Lily has a new indentity and lives in the uk with her twin boys. Lily is a doted mum and runs a hair salon By day by night she’s downing else entirely.
Asher has recently been released from prison and is staying with his best friends mum Lily. Asher has been in love with Lily for many years. Now that he’s living under Lily’s roof he decides he is going to make her his.
Asher and lilys chemistry was off the charts. I loved the dynamic of their relationship. I adore reverse age gap. The mutual attraction they both shared but also lilys morals of Asher being 17 years younger than her kept me hanging on. The tension in this book was absolutely phenomenal. This story is full of twists and turns I was completely hooked right from the very first page.
Sarah JD had written yet again an outstanding story that will Keep you entertained and have you wanting to take a very cold shower with all the heat in this book between the two MC’s. I am throughly looking forward to continuing with this series.
🩸 Age Gap 🩸 Forbidden Romance 🩸 Assasins 🩸 Mafia / Gangs 🩸 Family Secrets 🩸 Spicy 🥵 🩸 Best Friends Mother 🩸 Obsessive 🩸 Stalking
This is the first book in the Marx Empire Series and I need the next book now!!! Did I download the teaser straight away for Barrett? Of course I totally did! What an absolute wild ride this story was and I absolutely loved it. I really do love me an age gap and a very filthy one at that. This read had a lot of everything which I immensely enjoyed. Forbidden love, suspense, underground fighting, assassination, obsession and family mafia secrets to name a few. The spice in this read was definitely spicing!! I love Sarah's writing style and the whole storyline was fantastic and I can't wait to meet new characters in this series. The obsession, love and banter in this read kept me fully immersed with how things would play out with Lily and Asher. I guess the whole soccer mum vibes kinda women takes a whole new meaning 🔪🤭 For those who love dark forbidden dirty romance with action and suspense I highly recommend this read!
This is that age gap romance that is taboo. It’s so emotional and filthy. I just loved it and ate it up.
Lily is a divorced hairdresser who owns her own shop. She had escaped her mafia family in Australia and moved to England. She is raising twin boys. She must deal with her twat of an ex-husband and his nasty wife. Lily has some big secrets.
“Asher Scott is pure sin, and he calls to my soul. Hell, he owns my soul.”
Asher is her son’s best mate. He had been in prison for beating his mother’s awful drug dealer boyfriend. He finally gets out two years later and Lily takes him in. Asher has some secrets too.
“When it comes to worshipping you, I don’t understand the words no or stop.”
The two of them can’t keep their hands off each other. Asher doesn’t keep it a secret that he wants her. Lily worries about her family and what others would think. There are challenges they must work through. I cannot wait for the next book and Barrett’s story.
“You know, pissing women off really isn’t a good idea. We are brilliant at vengeance. Men like you may be the brawn, but women are the brains, and in the end, we will be victorious.”
OMG I just finished reading this & holy, it's hot!! Dirty, Deadly & Mine by Sarah JD is an age gap book full of insanely dirty hotness between Lily & Asher.
Lily is a salon owner by day & a killer by night. She's also the mom of twin boys, Jude & Ronan.
Asher is the twins' best friend & just a year older than them. His home life sucked so he spent a lot of time at Jude & Ronan's, watching their cheating dad who never deserved their mom, Lily.
Asher ends up in prison for beating Monty, his mom's scumbag boyfriend, half to death for almost causing her to overdose again. After he's released he ends up at Lily’s. With Lily divorced & his best friends living on campus he makes her see that he's more than the boy she practically raised & Lily is definitely noticing that he's no little boy. Even though he's 17 years younger & her sons' best friend, Lily can't stop the way her body craves Asher. But will all the secrets both Lily & Asher have hidden from each other keep this from being more than a brief fling after the truths are exposed to not only the world but to one another? Or can their dark & dirty love for each other outweigh everything?
Dirty, Deadly and Mine by Sarah JD — Asher and Lily… just wow. Prison can certainly change a person—your appearance, your mindset, your entire outlook on life. When Asher is released after 2 years, he may still be the same man deep down, but physically? He has definitely filled out in all the right places.
Thinking he’s moving back in with his best friend turns into something completely different when he realizes Lily is the one living there instead—his ultimate Dream Girl. And from the second these two are together, the chemistry is absolutely off the charts. The tension, the longing, the teasing? Absolute perfection.
And can we talk about the spice for a second? SIXTEEN chapters of spice. Yes please!! Every moment between Asher and Lily felt intense, passionate, and impossible to look away from. But what really stole the show for me was Asher himself. He somehow manages to be incredibly sweet while also being dirty in the best possible way, and honestly? that combination completely stole my heart.
This book hooked me from the start and never let go. If this is how this series begins, I absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next.
Wow, this book was absolutely delicious ❤️🔥 This story was a sizzling hot reverse age gap romance with dark themes that made it extremely thrilling reading experience 😁 Dirty, Deadly & Mine follows twenty-year-old super hot & built Asher who upon his release from prison goes to live with his best mates' mum Lily who happens to be seventeen years his senior. Asher has had a crush on Lily for years in secret but now he's determined to make most of this opportunity to make her his. However, that's only one part of the plot as we discover Lily is woman of many talents and secrets that make this book unique, intriguing and exciting wild ride 🔥 From start to finish I couldn't put this book down as it had me totally hooked on all the chemistry and riveting action! Most definitely 5⭐️ read for me - LOVED it and can't wait to read more books in the Marx Empire series!
I'd definitely recommend this book for all dark romance and/or smut lovers - if you haven't already discovered Sarah JD's incredibly storytelling and flawless writing style you'll be in for a treat 😘
I have to admit I do love her books; they are definitely up my street for her sense of humour, she always has me smiling and laughing out loud. This book is no different. It's action-packed from the start, with Lily seeming the normal soccer mam, adjusting to her twin boys leaving home to go to Uni. But she has had a side hustle for a fair few years, which lets her crazy side reign supreme. Where she takes her anger and frustrations out on her mark. She has been able to compartmentalise both sides of her personality with no problems, but that is all about to change. Life decides to throw her some extra things to juggle. Now, some of the juggling, she thoroughly enjoys A LOT, others not so much! But like a house built out of a deck of cards, the walls don't take much to start coming down, and when they do, her family is in for a shock at who she really is, and what she does in her spare time!
Another hit for me, I couldn't put it down.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I just finished reading Dirty Deadly & Mine by Sarah JD and what a wild ride this was.
Interactions between the FMC and MMC were very fast-paced, with this being the first reverse age gap I have actually read. And whilst I have READ SOME STUFF, I think I'll need to bathe myself in sage after this one - in the best way.
Our FMC Lily clearly had some secrets, but as the book goes on it all starts to unravel. And in the end, all she truly wants to do is keep the ones she loves safe!
Asher, the man is obsessed with his best friend's mum. He's broody, dark, and head over heels. He literally gives touch her and die energy.
The world-building in this aws really interesting as this opens up to further books in the series and I will definitely be continuing reading further books because there 100% is some decent foreshadowing in this one.
Thank you Sarah J.D. for the opportunity to read this as an eARC!
PS. i would recommend reading the trigger warnings before you head into this one - your wellbeing matters xx
OMG, this new series by Sarah is just so good, I didn’t want to put it down.
Lily is a kickass FMC as well as a single mum who’s boys are now away at college. But she is also has a secret life that her immediate family don’t know about. The way Lily has been written kept me gripped to the edge of my seat. Lily’s extended family think she has left everything behind except for her cousin Barrett who regularly keeps in contact with her and knows her boys as well.
Asher is her twin son’s best friend and also 17 years younger. Asher has been in love with Lily since childhood and would do anything for her. After spending a couple of years in Jail he now finds himself living with Lily.
Barrett, is Lily’s cousin who has been helping her and keeping her safe while he can. What happens when they think Lily has 2 stalkers!!!
The cliffhanger at the end of this book has me wanting book 2 right now!!!
I devoured this book what an exciting thrilling full of steam story. Asher has just been released from prison not knowing where he is going to go and what he is going to do. Until his best friends show up and take him to live with their mom Lily. The one person he has been obsessed with forever. Lily has always had a place in her home for Asher but now he was a man and she's seeing him in a different light. This book is a fast-paced action-packed book that you will consume quickly as you won't be able to put it down. I loved how Lily was the fierce Crimson Angel and can hold her own but when it comes to Asher, she becomes submissive for him. These two are a match made in fire that's for sure. We see Lily struggle with her feelings and tries so hard to push him away, but Asher is determined to make her his and wow the spice was phenomenal it will have you melting. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. I love all of Sarah’s books, but I’m not a fan of the reverse age gap, so I was a little torn about whether or not I would like it and a little nervous to even try. Turns out, I did enjoy it overall!
I loved how packed full of plot this book was, but it also had sooo many filthy, steamy scenes. It was the perfect combination of both spice and thrill, making it hard to put down at times!
I’ve also come to four definitive conclusions after finishing this one: 1) Even though I loved Lily and Asher, I’m still not a fan of the age gap trope. Just nope. 😬 lol 2) I’m seriously not into golden water play. Too taboo for me. 🫣 haha 3) I’m still a huge fan of Sarah JD and will read any and everything she writes, even if it’s outside of my comfort zone and pushes boundaries I’m not ready to cross yet (if ever 😉). And 4) I’m super excited for more Marx stories to come! 🙌❤️
Dirty, deadly and Mine is exactly as the title promises. It’s gritty, intense, and completely addictive. Lily is fierce, dangerous, and unapologetically strong, and Asher complements her in the best possible way.
This is the first story in the Marx Empire (which we’re introduced to in the Secret and Scars books), and I am absolutely here for the Marxs 🥵
One of my favourite things is that Sarah flipped the usual age-gap dynamic. Lily is the older one, which is so refreshing to see. We don’t get nearly enough older female leads, especially ones as kick-ass as her.
The story keeps you hooked, constantly guessing, and yes… definitely wishing you had an Asher in your life.
I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Marx family.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for storyline 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 for spice this one brings the heat!
Want delicious, descriptive hot spice? Love an age gap, single Mum, kickass FMC, secret family? Look no more, you have found your next read. We follow Lily through her journey of raising twins, being an empty nester when they go to college and her secret extra curricular activies at night.
Asher is a hot headed, cocky hot ex con and he is out to snare Lily. He doesn't take no lightly and with secrets of his own, this story not only keeps you on your toes but certainly gets you hot under the collar.
I loved the cross over between Australia and London and the mafia & gang involvement throughout. The twist and turns just kept coming.
As this is book one, I looking forward to more development from some of the characters we met in book one in the future books.
I absolutely need more about Barrett and Devon, these men are smoking!
I was a little worried going into this book, as it has one trope that I haven’t really gotten into but damn does Sarah JD know how to right a good fucking book.
This book was a filthy adventure, I loved every second. Asher hands you that sexual tension right from the beginning, he is so gorgeous. Our soccer mom Lily during the day has a (not so) secret. She is honestly amazing. These to together just give you some much tension and suspense, LOVE!
Sarah JD knows how to write, and I will die on that hill! Their books are longer then my average pick but the banter, action and tension all runs so smoothly that you fly through the book and wish there was another 400 pages. If you love a filthy reverse age gap this book may be for you, but please check all trigger warnings before reading. Thank you to the author for the chance to read this book as an arc!
Welcome in the Marx Family. We have meet a few throughout different series within this world. Well now we get to see their empire and who they fall in love with and why not start of with the black sheep of the family Lily. When Lilly twin boys best friend gets out of prison there is no hesitation to off him a place to stay as he is practically family. Asher doesn't want to be another son to Lily he wants more and is willing to show her he can be the man ahe needs. Lily is not just some suburban she is a Marx after all and love the test of blood. This book was amazing and had I hard time putting it down. I love this world and have always want to know more about the Marx Family and can't wait to see how this will play out.
I went into this one thinking I knew what I was getting was age gap, forbidden, spicy. I was right. But I was also completely unprepared. Lily is a divorced hairdresser on the surface but underneath she's a Marx mafia royalty hiding in plain sight in England, raising twin boys and outrunning her past. Asher is her son's best friend, younger, just out of prison, and completely unbothered about who knows he wants her. The tension is filthy and earned. What I didn't expect was how much plot was underneath all of it. The secrets, violence, family loyalty, and a world that keeps pulling you deeper. I finished it wanting more and I'm not even a little embarrassed. I hope Barrett's book is next and cannot come fast enough.
Dark romance, mafia, reverse age gap, son's best friend, and more... Every time I read one of Sarah's books I know I'm gonna love it. Well, Lily and Asher's story was everything I love and more!! First of all, the chemistry between these two... wow!! 🥵 Lily tried to resist, but seriously how could she resist Asher. How their relationship evolved was perfectly done. From just being the best friend's mom to the overwhelming tension, emotions, and falling in love. This book was filled with suspense, danger, secrets, drama, all the feels, angst, and delicious steam. Another fantastic read by Sarah J.D.
Book 1 of Marx Empire. And a FANtastic start it is! Look forward to more from this world.
'Readers who love intense, spicy dark romance with a significant age-gap, a morally grey FMC, an obsessive MMC with a “touch her and die” mentality, high stakes, high heat, and criminal underworld elements, will devour this story.'
The characters were very complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!

This story was so dark and steamy . Lily with her penchant for unaliving was her secret until it wasn’t . A forbidden love with Asher who she helped in so many ways when he was younger. They didn’t care how forbidden their relationship was and they were very dirty in between the sheets. With lilys life unraveling and she is trying to take control. She finds out who let her secret out and also discovered who her stalker was. The biggest surprise was lily’s ex. Couldn’t believe my eyes. I was amazed at the action and everything in this story . I can’t wait to see what happens next in the Marx family .
"Asher Scott is pure sin, and he calls to my soul. Hell, he owns my soul." - Lilly.
Brilliant, strong and an undeniably deadly start to the new Marx Empire series. Sarah JD has wrung every emotion out of me with a descriptive, sexy as all get out book, with writing that had me looking for hints and clues as to who was stalking, who was the threat and who the mystery man was. Lily is the epitome of the dangerous, underestimated mafia princess and Ash is with out a doubt pure sin. The stolen moments will have you gasping, the dangerous tones will have you gripping the book and these characters have set the foundation for an epic series, oh mummy!!!
