The Blackened Blade #2

A Blackened Bond

Rate this book

I eagerly awaited book two after an explosive book one; however, this book DID disappoint.

No one talked with each other; too many repetitive phrases and ideas; too much internal dialogue (again); POV's that added nothing to the story; and the author (via the characters) withheld important world information from us.

There was more of a plot this time around, but even then the plot was razer thin. This book felt more like a 1.5 in a series and not the second book. i.e., filler content

The first book took place over 2-3 months, whereas this book was over 2-3 weeks and not a hell of a lot was accomplished over those weeks.

Characters are still not trusting each other, withholding life events and Micai, now physically stronger is still putting up with bullying.

I hoped for better. Micai deserved better.

After the 50% mark in the book, there are countless errors with prose, grammar, and punctuation.

5 ⭐️ I was not disappointed with this book, although at times I wanted to junk-punch Creed. If there’s not a whole book dedicated to groveling from not just Creed, but everyone else who is a jerk to Micai, I’ll be pissed 😅

Also this is 100% Ezra and Annex …

I’m slightly disappointed with this one. It was such a highly anticipated book for this year and I felt like we could have done with a lot less inner monologuing by the characters and more development between them. Then the end felt rushed and ended weirdly like it was an unfinished chapter rather than the end of the book

Spoilers in this because I can't help myself. Also, my thoughts are disorganized right now, but I am who I am.

While this book moved the romance forward quite a bit for 3 out of 5 of the guys, I thought that the plot really stalled in this book. I think the author really made a mistake in book 1 by (a) making Gadriel (the teacher) a love interest and (b) having Micai go back in time - I think Micai should've just randomly been released from the prison or something without the time travel element. She literally has done no research to try to figure out how she was able to go back in time. She has done nothing to change her circumstances or understand what this magic was or how she might be being manipulated. Micai is literally just ...going back to school. She's not getting any revenge on anyone (except in small-scale opportunistic moments with minor villains/bullies like Ivy and someone named Dean), and she's basically told her mates nothing. I feel like the readers know so much, and I've been waiting for the characters to catch up for 2 whole books now. I've known that Micai still doesn't know these guys are her mates. No one knows that Seria has been stealing her magic or can influence other people to feel a certain way (they suspect something, but then do absolutely nothing to investigate it), which I also mentioned in my book 1 review. I swear, if Seria gets the upper-hand in book 3 because these fucking main characters have done absolutely nothing to investigate Micai's background, I may give up. They don't tell each other anything. They repeatedly say they're going to help each other figure things out, but then they do nothing except buy scones, muffins, and new clothes for each other. I'm just so bored and annoyed at them for doing nothing to move the plot forward. We are 2 books in - it's time to tell the guys everything. Book 3 better start with a real conversation between these characters BEFORE Seria has a chance to put her next plan into action. I also genuinely don't think the author knows how to manage the time travel, and nothing that Micai has done makes sense with time travel. Homegirl is literally just re-living the same life, has tried to figure out approximately nothing, but keeps having 5-page inner monologues every chapter where she repeatedly tells the reader how changed she is and how badass she is now.

Also, back to Gadriel (or whatever the fuck his name is) - this character has 0 point. I am 0% interested in him. I don't think he has chemistry with Micai. It feels very forced. He had about 3 scenes in this entire book, and each time, it was giving ~creepy~ more than anything else.

This entire book was basically just fluffy romance scenes (which I love, but also like, give us more legitimate communication and/or conversations about the plot every once in awhile), and then random action sequences to show you how ~badass~ Micai is, but the action has nothing to do with the overall plot.

I really liked book 1, and I still liked this book generally speaking, but I'm annoyed at how stupid everyone is that I can't even think about the positives right now. I'm annoyed that nothing moved forward in the plot in this book. I'm annoyed that Seria is about to outsmart all of them in book 3 even though Micai had a whole previous life + 2 books to learn that Seria is a villain. I'm annoyed at how often the author uses the same word. Please for the love of God, find another word to use besides "chuckle" (it is in this book EIGHTY-NINE times...yes 89!!). Every-fucking-thing is a "sexy chuckle" or someone "chuckles darkly." Honorable mentions of words/phrases that were used too often: "demented" (14 times...this word is not common enough to use 14 times) and "wet folds" (which may have only been used 3 times, but it was 3 times too many).

The good news is, I liked the guys, even though Micai is an imbecile. The guys aren't that smart either, but they're psychotic and simps, which was a fun combo. I like that Annex is a psycho golden retriever, but his blood jokes are getting a little old and I feel like he's coming across as repetitive. I need a littttle bit more from him. I really do like Mallyn and Ezra though. Creed is whatever.

Unnggh what happened here? This was a sequel I was looking forward to and honestly, it was sooo disappointing. It was a weak, repetitive book that was poorly developed and definitely not edited well. A real bummer.

**Spoilers, obviously**
- Absolutely no plot development in almost 400 pages. Just a bunch more scenes of Micai at school and with the guys. No movement whatsoever regarding the Facility. Just more bullying scenes, and a bunch of scenes with her being relationship-ed up with Ezra and Annex. It's incredibly repetitive.

- We learn basically nothing new about the guys at all. And literally nothing new about Micai until the last 10 pages and even then it's basically nothing, just more vagueness. I could forgive less plot development if there was character development, but there's NOT. It's just a bunch of Annex and Ezra saying nice things to her, we don't actually learn anything else about them (except one about Annex obviously at the very beginning), or their past or what they're doing now with their "plans". They don't even tell each other that they're her mates until like the 300 page mark even though it's known from the FIRST CHAPTER (and there's no big climax when they finally say it either, like nothing dramatic, so why delay that communication?). And they still haven't told her... like why? Honestly, their chapters just become wall to wall them being obsessed with her and wanting to get her gifts and food. It gets boring fast.

- Gadriel? What a nothing burger, we see him for like 3 scenes? And then he's gone. And honestly there is no chemistry.

- Morgan? She is like on the sidelines a few times but we almost never "hear" any of her and Micai's conversations so we learn nothing new about her, her character is not fleshed out, and she and her own brother Creed basically never interact (and apparently she's still never told him that Micai saved her... so I guess they just don't talk?). I thought we would get like a nice side female character, but nope.

- The spice. Man, it's bad. There are like 3 chapters in a row of spice and it is SO DRY. It's purely a physical recounting of the choreographing. There is no writing about the feelings and emotions while it's happening, no reactions to sensations, nada. Just - he kissed me there, then moved up my neck, then he licked me. Like dry dry dry (could easily make a NSFW joke here but I'll resist). I was not expecting this poor a delivery on the spice side.

- Nothing is ever mentioned about how Mallyn was knocked out in the last book and fell into a river of black sludge...

- The typos, grammar issues, misspellings... too many, come on now. I know this is British English but does "recant" somehow mean something else in the UK? Cause it means to renounce / disavow something, but it's used here multiple times to mean recount. The author meant recount, right?

- The least surprising twist ever of Ezra being 'Zrael... like obviously we knew that, I can't believe this was the end twist. The moment you learn Ezra was a siren in the first book you knew that, cause we knew Zrael was a siren and Ezrael is not like some super unheard of name, it was easy to see that how the two names fit together. Also, on that 'Zrael note, in the first book Micai goes on about how she won't have another love like him, and though she does say she wants to find him in this book, she literally NEVER attempts to and she honestly goes all in with Annex and Ezra immediately with suddenly no guilt or sadness around 'Zrael. Just super inconsistent characterization.

- Almost no new info about Seria the whole book. We get one bit of info as to why Micai's old friends are so obsessed with her (and honestly I figured that out in book 1 already...) and then that's it. She basically is nonexistent for much of the book. Nothing more happens with her bracelet besides Ezra taking it. And the 5 childhood guy friends? Nothing more happens there besides like 2-3 more bully interactions. We don't learn anything new about them.

It really felt like the plot went no where. A lot of the same stuff happening that happened in book one. I’m really sad at the filler. I don’t understand how this can be a 5 book series.

Going into this book I wanted:
-More information on how she came back from her past life
-More information on her magic and markings
-More Gadriel
-Makai giving the boys all her secrets

Did we get any of that??? No, still to come.

DID I DEVOUR THIS BOOK ANYWAYS???? Yes, without shame and in one sitting.

Unfortunately disappointing.

3 stars is me being VERY generous btw, bc I loved book 1 and some of the characters will always have a special place in my heart.

But this book offered NOTHING. The plot in this is just like the first book except with smut. There was very little progression. Most of the things that happened in this I've already read in book 1.

Also not sure if I had my rose-colored glasses on when I read the first book, but I am NOT a fan of the writing in this. Too wattpady.

The guys being WAY too devoted to Micai was giving me the ultimate ick. If they're already this smitten and in love in this book I can't even imagine how they will be by the time we reach book 5. This book obliterated the amazing romantic build-up that the first book provided. I feel so crushed.

I will still read the next books because I'm too invested now but I'm not that excited about the romantic possibilities anymore because I feel like they're already near HEA in this book romance-wise. (we're waiting on Creed but like they said A MILLION TIMES in this book it's gonna happen eventually)

I think any hopes of the OG harem groveling or joining her harem are also gone now which crushed me. This storyline had so much potential :(

Things only got exciting in the VERY last chapter.

If you moved the last chapter into the first and built the story from there instead I think the plot would've been better.

At the very least the story would've had more weight to it instead of just going over and over about how Micai was a fucking godsend for the guys and how strong she was and blah blah blah.

I know this series was originally going to be a trilogy? But the author changed it to a 5 book series shortly before this one was released - which I was initially delighted about but I hope that is not the reason this book ended up being a pointless filler.

I only had to wait like two months for this and was SO excited for it - I feel so sad that this turned out so underwhelming. Can't imagine people that had to wait a year :/

I hope the third book will be much better. I will still tune in because I want to witness Seria's downfall. I hope that will still happen.

Dang I've had bad luck on follow up books this week.
Spoilers.

I think this one frustrated me because we didn't move much further along in the story which means this will be dragged across 4 books and keep the story and their background resolution until book 4. Which I hate with series these days. Just because the first book is popular we stretch it out.
No one shares secrets, no progress is made on the facility, and we really only add one mate. When she is going to have what 5? She also never realized that Ezra was her mate from the facility which by now wouldn't there be some overlap in stories in feeling? Something? That's frustrating.

It's just moving far too slow. Yes we get sex. Yes we get some time with the group, but aside from that this book felt like a huge filler episode and it's very frustrating since the first book grabs your attention so well. Creed is still being an ass which will probably continue until the end of book three where I'm sure she will be taken or they will be taken and then he has to face losing her 🙄 . HOW BOUT NOT BE HORRIBLE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Surprising not the first time I've written that in a review this week. And the other book is eerily similar to this one. So same thing applies.

I'm not sure I'll keep reading until all the books are released at this point because I'm sure these will still be issues for most of the next book.

Nothing happened

I struggled a little with book 1 but it ended on a cliffhanger, I liked the premise of the book and the potential of the plot and the development of the main characters. I gave Grace thinking, it’s world building, sometimes book can start a little slow to give the chance to explain the background. Book 2, it will kick off

It didn’t. Nothing happened. Literally. This book was all filler, a few random fights thrown in with the ‘school bully’s’ which for me read as cringe because she was ‘finally not holding back her power’ which was mentioned sooooo many times so she went from weak and bullied to secret agent spy and the descriptions of the fights… roundhouse … anyway

There was lots of talk about, investigating this, finding out the cause of that, none of it was actually acted on. There was no ‘deep development’ of any of the characters opening up about trauma or pasts or ‘secrets’

To me this felt like the book was trying to be a book just so there had to be another book. I obviously don’t know what’s to come with ‘plot’ or how many books in the series but this feels like it’s going to be dragged out for the sake of releasing books rather than on quality.

Shame but not for me. Even the ‘spicy’ scenes weren’t that gripping. Think this is where my time with this series ends.

This series has so much potential but the execution is very lacking.

I'm very frustrated and I don't know what's going on with the writing in this installment, maybe the author used CHATGPT but the amount of repetition is insane. A lot of sentences didn't make any sense whatsoever. I'll reserve my thoughts until I read the next book but let me just say that this book didn't live up the the first one.

Drink every time someone chuckles darkly, I dare you 🥹

This book suffers from the same editorial issues as the first book, which is a shame because based on its popularity I would have hoped the author might invest in some editorial assistance on this one. It’s not necessarily typos or spelling issues, but rather problems with run on sentences, repetitive sentences (such as using a word several times in a sentence), grammar/tense issues, and a tendency to misuse words (eg. homely when she means to say homey, saying a ‘wardrobe and draw set’ instead of drawers or dresser). There are also a lot of sentences that just don’t read quite right. All things a decent editor could have helped to resolve.

There are still a lot of dramatic squabbles with bullies where the heroine clearly thinks she’s teaching them a lesson, but really isn’t because they just continue to harass her over and over. It’s starting to feel like an ineffective plot device, since these scenes just keep happening but nothing actually happens WITH them. As I was reading this book I remained frustrated with the FMC for not doing any research, not questioning anything suspicious other than to think ‘hm that seems familiar for some reason’ and then forget about it, and as an icing on the cake not sharing any important information with the MMCs despite her internal monologue indicating that she means to tell them a couple times but just keeps getting dickmatized and forgetting. I would have expected there to be some movement in the plot at this point, but really we don’t get very much. Be prepared for a lot of filler and to have more questions opened up. The author likes to drop little suspicions that could be important and then never circle back to them. I hope she doesn’t leave them for so long that they’re forgotten. Like, what’s up with the blacksmith?

As for the romance, I fear the more it developed the cringier the dialogue became. There is spice in this book, but it’s peppered with a lot of flowery declarations and cheesy, cliches so I ended up skimming through it. They all use SO MANY similes and metaphors in their speech and internal monologues (Ezra is the worst offender though). At this point I get it, they want to spill their dark insides out and light them on fire and watch the world burn as they chuckle darkly… or something.

Still entertaining, but less so than the first book. It feels more like a 2-2.5 but I’ll give it a 3 just for being a fun read despite the cringe.

Edit to add- I don’t think the author was prepared to handle having 5 MMCs. Gadriel is essentially nonexistent in the one. I think he gets 2 scenes and 1 POV. This book was long enough that he shouldn’t have been just an afterthought.

unfortunately, this book really disappointed me. and maybe it's my fault for having high expectations after the glorious book #1, but this book was so... anticlimactic for me. dare i say boring?

let's start with the good. this was addictive, fun, and i finished it in a day - so i can't say it wasn't easy to read and vaguely entertaining.

but the bad... where was the plot line?? i cannot say a single thing that actually moved forwards with this addition to the series, which was really disappointing, especially given the unique plot with book 1. the only thing that moved forwards with this book was the sex. and this entire book and we STILL couldn't get a specific big reveal about one of her mates? are you fucking with me? that cliffhanger pissed me off.

not to mention the way no one communicated anything?? these people declared themselves IN LOVE. mates. meant to be together for eternity. and yet micai didn't not tell them a single thing, despite her apparent incredible devotion to them, and they were just as bad. she's going to be their woman for the rest of their lives and they still haven't told her shit about their secret little mission?? don't piss me off.

i also felt really disconnected from the characters. micai was less cool, did less training and didn't seem to work as hard to improve herself, and just overall got kind of boring. also she still hasn't made any progress on finding her little kidnapping and torture club, she just kinda waltzes through school (but not studying of course), not even pretending to search for zrael or anything.

the boys were fine. not as funny or as unique and swoonworthy as book 1, just kinda meh. they were there and it was fine, but they just seemed less interesting in this one, and there was still no progress with her tutor in the slightest. they just bored me a bit.

this book was just a bit of a let down for me, but nonetheless, it wasn't awful. i will continue the series and hope it picks up.

I don’t usually rate books before I read them but I loved the first book there is no way I won’t love the 2nd too and I’m so happy to see a date for the 2nd book!!!!

Update
Just finished book 2 it was so good!! It didn’t leave us on a huge cliffhanger like last time!
I just love Micai she is such a bad ass.I already can’t wait for book 3. I sure hope she’s meant for 5 guys cause her chemistry with Gadriel is hot. Creed will eventually come around and I’m so glad Annex was back and as psycho as ever :)

"Who knew revenge could make me feel this happy? I should do it a lot more."

This is giving heavy 'Broken Bonds' vibes (not that I'm complaining).
I did expect this to be more... unhinged? vindictive? action-packed? It felt like a lot less happened than in book 1.

The second book of the Blackened Blade series wasn't nearly as cathartic as I was hoping. We get it, Micai. You aren't going to hold back anymore! 🙄 (Though Annex suffered from the same issue, constantly thinking to himself about how he's going to make everyone in the entire world pay for crossing Micai...)
These books have a very serious problem with repetition – of events, dialogue, inner thoughts, everything – and it was even worse this time around. I suppose it does pad out the book length.

Unfortunately there wasn't much development with the main storyline, and the romance aspect is turning out to be quite a slow burn as well with two of the four men. Creed, the typical control freak leader with trust issues, is still an unlikable dickhead for no rational reason. And Gadriel feels like a secondary character that the author forgot about for the most part, with barely any attention given on-page. So... not much happened at all apart from some bully beatdowns. Which were pretty underwhelming.
The juiciness of the drama with Seria and her own harem of Micai's ex-besties was my main attraction to keep reading this series, but it seems like it's going to be dragged on unnecessarily... over FIVE books?!

The writing here just isn't good enough for me to force myself through another one of these books so I'm stopping here. There's only so many juvenile descriptions of how dark and twisted the main characters are that I can stomach. I'm sorry to any fans of this series but to me it's giving Wattpad.

Where is the plot?

I loved book 1! So much so that I have been counting down the release date on book 2. I must say the first chapter really set the pace for this book and it was looking like a great start. Unfortunately the detail and plot did not progress from that first chapter. There was a lot of “I’m not going to hold back” from the FMC but yet nothing was revealed. I found that the relationship developments were very surface level. This book could have been condensed into 100 pages. If it is another year wait for book 3 I will probably not continue the series.

Honestly the only reason I didn’t rate a 2 was because the first book was so good having read it 5 times waiting the second book.

There was pretty much no character development which made it boring, as well as having trouble pushing through because it was all how much Ezra and annex love her and whatnot which would have been fine if it wasn’t mentioned like 50 times.

So generally what happened in the book, was them just Mallyn and her just figuring shit out for 50 pages. How much annex and Ezra love her for 300. A little bit of fighting. Then the last chapter was where it got good which could have been mentioned 400 pages before so there was an actual plot and something interesting to read.
So close to nothing happened except boys pinning her down and underestimating her which was cool in the last book but was really just a redo this book. Get creative.

Overall this book was a let down compared to the first book and was looking for a lot more because my expectation for this book was so high.
Sorry if this was harsh but it is the truth. Will still read the third book but I wouldn’t be surprised if I forget.

Very disappointing. The book could have been condensed by 100 pages by omitting the nickname Red. Also hating how “not like other girls” Micai is. Every other girl is a dumb bimbo. Give me a break. Where is the plot? Nothing actually happens the entire book. Loved the concept of being sent back in time in The Blackened Blade but it seems like the author has no idea where to take the story.

meh

an ok and very predictable story ... where nothing much of anything actually happens …it's very "wordy" in some sections and almost juvenile in it's writing in others ….
for me, this was nowhere near as good as book one … though it did have all the exact same grammar and punctuation mistakes / capital letters in strange places …
and all the same word(s) and physical descriptions on constant repetition : if I never see the words "calls".. "calls softly".. "her small blue eyes" written again I'll be happy /
weird sentence structure that was annoyingly everywhere and stopped the book from flowing smoothly .. all things almost forgivable in the first book as the story was interesting enough you could try to ignore them ... but not so forgivable or easily ignored for the second book ...

and honestly ... the main problem for me is the FMC is supposed to be mentally and emotionally 27 years old ... a good ten years older than most of the other characters ...
10 years more of life experience and having to mature and survive awful situations ... and she's acting / re acting / thinking like a teenager with zero life experience ... 🙄... when she should be running circles around them ( and enjoying some petty revenge 😁)

it’s painfully obvious that professional proof reading/ professional editing weren't used for this book (or for book one) .. because it feels and reads like a "filler" with a bunch of mistakes rather than a fleshed out story with a bunch of mistakes ... and it certainly doesn't bode well that the writer has recently announced that she's making it a 5 book series ...

I had looked forward to reading this book …(as I really did enjoy book one ) ... but it was disappointing enough that I won't bother with the rest of this series ... the storyline was already too easy to predict in book one and even more so in book 2 ...

Still there will be lots of readers who will love this book and who will not even notice any of these things ..... just not me

Ir toliau kartojasi patyčios, tie patys dialogai, be prasmės, tikslo.

2nd read [Sep 21, 2025]: 3⭐
hmm tbh i noticed more so on this reread that not only is the plot barely moving but also just feel like the romance is lacking?? this was kinda a struggle to get through ngl i was getting bored. (i think this series is not a rereadable series whoops)

also i cannot STAND the writing style, it's been bothering me so much😭

1st read [Oct 1, 2024]: 5⭐
was this perfect? no. do I care? nope!!! i had so much fun once again and thats all that matters. i finished this within 24 hours and all i want is more asap i literally cant get enough im genuinely devastated that i have to wait probably a year for book 3 sos

my obsession with micai, annex and ezra gosh😩 I literally DEVOURED every scene involving them like??? my heart?? it's the way I've been a terrible mood lately because of uni but then I read this and it's like a complete 180 they just make me so happy😭😭 they made me swoon so much and once again I was grinning like an idiot SOMEONE GIVE ME AN EZRA OR ANNEX PLEASE

the only crime this book committed was there being BARELY any gadriel omg it really is slow burn with those two😩 manifesting first kiss in book 3🤞 I have to say I still dont really care abt mallyn and GOD did creed annoy the hell out of me?? bro better grovel like crazy to even begin to try winning me over. EZRA AND ANNEX THO!!!! oh my god the scenes they had??? The amount of times I swooned and there were SO many hot and silly scenes. Annex truly says the wildest things that make me laugh i highlighted so many of them help he is actually just the sweetest. And ezra!! The amount of vulnerable scenes and his love for micai?? genuinely these two are so down bad for micai I love to see it🤭 (especially when it pissed off creed LOL "sappy lovesick fools" THEYRE MY SAPPY LOVESICK FOOLS he's just jealous clearly).

and can I just say how much it warmed my heart seeing micai love freely without guilt or worry and let down her guard and feel safe around annex and ezra?? she deserves this happiness and all I want is so much more for her. I already feel the urge to reread (just like with book 1... look at this trend, the things this series does to me omg?) and I have to day one of the best parts was there being barely any seria!!! although that last chapter had me worried... I need her dead asap.

anyways read this series if you need a good addiction and want to feel happy because thats what its been doing for me🥹 now excuse me while i reread all my fav scenes a million times and then cry at the thought of not having book 3 in my hands xox

i CANNOT take one more page of this utter garbage. idk why i thought “hm, maybe book 2 will be better?” WRONG! i have no one to blame but myself.

i try not to be overly critical/mean in my negative reviews but this is just really, really bad. i don’t have a single positive thing to say.

the writing is awful and so repetitive it drives me insane. you could skip ahead multiple chapters and not know it because the exact same words/scenes are being re-written over and over and over. it needs an editor asap and it needs to be someone that will be brutally honest because honestly i’m not convinced this author knows how to properly write.

the plot?? NON-EXISTENT. it’s literally just going round and round in circles. the idea was pretty decent but the execution was terrible. like literally nothing happens. it’s just repeated chapters of random people at this academy bullying the main character and her saying some cringey shit back thinking she’s all tough. she’s a whole different girl now, in case you weren’t aware the first 500 times she’s said it. i don’t understand the point of reading these type of redundant scenes over and over and over when nothing new happens! and the characters are just… boring. every single one of them lacks any sort of real depth and have no chemistry whatsoever.

i want to burn these books from my memory.

Scene after scene of nonsense that did nothing to move the plot forward. I like a good anti-hero but even Annex started to annoy me in the second half of the book. Way to make a somewhat psychotically adorable character sound like a broken record. It's like every word of of his mouth is sexual, but the actual sex scenes are total meh.

It was so frustrating that they had these big issues and questions to resolve but they did precious little to actually seek answers. The story has an antagonist, why are we spending so many pages on these obnoxious peripheral characters that serve only to demonstrate how awful she's being treated. Repeatedly. Ad nauseum. We get it. Those characters were so interchangable that I have no idea who was who.

At the end of book two, we should have a much better understanding of the world and should be able to see the pieces start coming together. This feels like someone's dumped out the puzzle from the box and a toddler's gnawed all the corners of the pieces.

Don't get me started on the editing, grammar, *sentence structure*, and homophone errors.

I think there is a good story in here buried under all the bullshit, but I'm not sure I can stomach hunting for it in the next book.

Author's update on Insta: I apologize for the delay in updating everyone.
'A Blackened Bond' will not be releasing earlier as I had planned but will follow its preorder date on Amazon. I apologize for the disappointment this has caused but guarantee it will be released on 30th of September.❤️

I got to the 50% mark and had to do a double take that I was really halfway through the book. There was a lot of snu, and we did get some minor romantic development with Mallyn, but plot wise, almost NOTHING happened.
This was incredibly frustrating to me because I was really here for the plot. What I got instead was a soul-crushing amount of filler.

Annex's pov made me want to gouge my eyes out. His obsession with Micai is cute in small doses, but to the extent it was used was just mind-numbing. I found myself groaning any time I encountered the words "Annex's pov" because it was the same. Damn. Thing. Every single time. This was all made worse because the amount of time we spend in his head really painfully highlights the extent to which his character is underdeveloped. He needs more than bloodlust and Micai-obsession to qualify as an actual fleshed out character, and I am going to need some serious fleshing out for him in later books before I'm willing to forgive the sheer amount of nonsensical rambling I had to endure from him in this book.

This may be a hot take, but I really found myself on Creed's side most of the book. Not the part where he expected the fmc to just spill all her secrets, that was dumb, but his desire to stay the level-headed one while his buddies lost themselves to the simp life? Yeah. The amount of shit he got from his friends just for having a healthy dose of suspicion for the fmc was kind of toxic. Did he take it too far? Sure. Did he need to be a dick about it? Probably not. But I couldn't help but think about the parallels to Seria and Micai's men the entire time. Maybe if Knox or someone from his group had Creed's reluctance to blindly trust this strange woman his friends are suddenly COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH, we wouldn't even be here. Because WE know that Micai is a real one, but let's be honest, from an outside perspective? The woman is sus. She has secrets and demons, and she is SUS.
I do think Creed should have backed off a lot earlier than he did, but for the first 75% of the book, I was definitely on his side.

I could gripe more, but I won't bother. This is a filler book, plain and simple, but the plot for the series is still really solid, and I will definitely be reading the next book in hopes of getting some actual development.

I pray the author takes their time with the next book.

2* because Micai is still one of my favorite fmcs, and her pov always carries.

Ngl, I'm a little disappointed 🥹

One thing I really dislike in books (especially sequels) is when there are more sex scenes than actual plot development—and I feel like that's the case here.

There's very little progress, both in terms of the plot and the characters. Micai isn’t as focused on her training or her plan as she was in the first book. She has two or three 'boss girl' moments, but that’s about it.

There are a lot of monologues (which I usually don’t mind, but they are pretty repetitive) and almost no answers to the questions we were left with in the first book.
