I enjoyed the banter, but it drove me crazy that one decent conversation about 30% into the book would have solved the main problem. I understand that the miscommunication and emotional constipation were part of the characters' growth, but it still felt frustrating to watch the problem drag on for so long. The concept itself was fun, but it felt like it was missing that extra spark to make it really work.
My biggest annoyance, though, was the cat. Its presence never seemed to lead anywhere, and I spent the whole book convinced it was building toward some major twist or reveal. When that never happened, it felt like a missed opportunity. Overall, I had fun reading it, but those unresolved elements stopped it from being a book I truly loved.

Echt een heerlijk boek! De banter tussen Omen en Clara was hilarisch. De beperkte kennis over de mensenwereld was geweldig en zorgde voor ontzettend grappige momenten.

I honestly cannot say much other than just... Meh. It was decent and that's basically all I can really say. Not to mention that that best parts of the book, the funniest parts, were given away by the advertising... it made the rest of the novel feel lacklustre and unexciting.
The world is a modern setting, making me feel much more paranormal romance, and only really consisted of two areas. Her house and his place. I wanted a bit more variety when it came to locations, and even when it came to exploring more witches in the world. We get told they exist secretly, that there are covens, but all we know is that the FMC was kicked out of hers for reasons that weren't really explained. There was also huge amounts of just strange writing; moments that didn't make sense, lots of confusion. I did not know the two main leads were kissing until they finished, I had to reread that before it registered.
I cannot remember the main character's name. Like seriously. I cannot recall either of theirs. And it's exactly like their personalities in this book. There really is no substance to these characters. FMC does a whole "woe-is-me" act whenever she thinks about friends and how her friendships are moving on and she's so sad about that but oh well, she'll just sit here until the demon shows up again. I don't recall her doing anything to change her situation.
And then the MMC. He was so... boring. I thought having his cock pierced would at least make something more exciting but if anything if added to the confusion (literally, there's a part where one of his piercings is rubbing against her clit but his cock is inside and fucking her?). There was no charm, no wooing. Bland.
PLUS the fact that there was so much miscommunication or non-existent conversation between the two of them, I was getting SO FUCKING SICK of both of their attitudes. He doesn't like something she says or does, he fucks off and loses time, she gets mad at him until he comes back XX months later and suddenly she forgets and forgives because she's fucking lonely.
The smut was boring. Nothing I can say to make it sound better. There was no spice to it, not even a hint of pepper, and while not all smut needs to have that kind of intensity there needs to be SOMETHING. He had a tail they never used. The dick piercings were badly described and not utilised at all. JUST SOMETHING.
Overall, it was decent enough to read. It wasn't bad and sadly that is probably the best thing I can say about this one.

I really enjoyed this book. It was cute and fun, I giggled and kicked my feet and just had a good time reading. This book is very cozy, I felt safe with the relationship I felt like things were going to work themselves out the whole time so I didn't spend much time worrying about how things were going to be fixed. I needed this. I needed a very cozy relaxing and low stress read.
I loved the characters, their dynamic throughout the book just made me smile, did I want to throw my kindle at times because of their miscommunication? Absolutely I did, but I didn't and they got on the same page eventually. I just loved their romance. I loved how much longing and yearning there was between them. I enjoyed how their connection felt like it was literally pulling them together. And the push and pull between them until they finally gave in and just fell for each other.
I really enjoyed the writing. This was my first book by Emilia Abraham and I really liked the writing style so it makes me want to explore her other books.

I would recommend this book if you are in the mood for a cute and whimsy, cozy story about a witch and a demon.

I had such high hopes and expectations for this book. I follow this author on TikTok, and we her followers sort of forced her... dare I say bullied her into writing this book after telling us about this book idea.
And let me just say maybe we should "bully" her more... "bully" her into writing a whole series... because this was perfect.
I enjoyed every part of this: the characters, the storyline, the chemistry between the main characters, the side characters, the steamy scenes, the genre, the writing style, and I was not disappointed. I have one unanswered question that I need answered (who's damn cat is that?)... make that two unanswered questions (who summoned Dimitri in whose cupboard does he end up in?) for that reason alone, I need a follow-up book. Preferably another stand alone interconnected, which answeres my queries but also that delves into all the characters I became fond and intrigued of.

What Not to do When Summoning a Demon by Emilia Abraham exceeded all of my expectations! I first learned about this book when the Author was toying with the idea of writing it (I love discovering new books through Tiktok!). I immediately knew it was going to be a book worth reading and I wasn't wrong. It went above and beyond all of my expectations and I fell even more in love with the characters than I had hoped I would.
I love how awkward Clara is. She isn't a witch full of grace knowing exactly what to do. She draws imperfect runes, hates Latin, gets stuck in random places and struggles opening jars. All of which our lovable demon, Omen, can't resist no matter how hard he tries.
All of the characters have their own unique charm and I love how the different dimensions of earth and hell are represented. This book is definitely worth the read and I would love to see more added to it! I think we need a Dimitri book because whose closet was he being sent to?!

When I stumbled on this concept on TikTok, I immediately followed Emilia and waited for updates on this book. I'm not gonna lie, when I got to be an ARC reader, I did a happy dance.
All that being said: this book lived up to the hype. It's a cozy paranormal romance with all the scenes that you need to giggle and kick your feet to.
This is the sort of book that you want to curl up with on a rainy day and devour in one sitting. The witch is adorable and sassy and the demon is quite literally hot. Their dynamic is a nice balance of sweet and banter, with just a touch of overprotective thrown in at the right moments (on both their parts). Throw in the animal sidekick with more questions than answers and it's the perfect, cozy read.

Everything about this was perfectly executed. Honestly, from the character building to the plot to the settings, just perfect. I absolutely loved both Clara and Omen. They worked to well together right from the start. Clara's overall awkwardness was such a great foil to Omen's surety (despite not knowing anything about the mortal world.)
This is the perfect book to help settle into the cozy fall vibes. It's low angst, medium speed burn (for a 200 page book), and has characters that feel like warm hugs. The pacing is well done and the plot is nigh on nonexistent. It's just a very well done cozy paranormal romance.

I really wanted to love this book but it was just a strong “like”. Some of the world building felt shaky and it felt like we’d randomly just be in Hell or at her house again and I’d be left to fill in the pieces. I also don’t love a miscommunication trope, especially one that lasts for more than a couple chapters so that frustration definitely wasn’t helping me love the book either. I was sucked in with the first sentence but was definitely left wanting more than I got :/ I’m not giving up on this author yet, as I’ve heard some of her other stuff is really good.

This was so sweet and so funny. Who wouldn't want a demon to help out around the house? And that meet cute of summoning him to open a jar, adorable. I love getting the dual pov so we could see just how fast and hard they we falling for one another. There was so many heart melting and hilarious moment. oh but we can't forget that spicy which was so good too. Such a fun, cute and quick read, I couldn't put it down. Lastly I cant wait for more with Dimitri's story.

Clara is a witch who needs a jar opened; it's a special jar of pasta sauce her mother made. She summons a demon, Omen, who keeps coming back to do other odd tasks.

I was wanting some fall vibes and this delivered! So cute, silly, and fun with a heck of a slow burn but a nice little nugget of steam! The angst was cute but still present as the MMC tries to do the right thing even though he wants her. Nice quick read to get you into the fall vibe!

I very much enjoyed Clara and Omen’s story. I laughed and swooned and really liked the story overall. I did end up feeling like that world is not over with Dimitri’s storyline. And I really really hope that it’s true. I will definitely be a long time fan of the author and highly recommend other’s read her books as well!

Quick and Cozy
This is exactly the book I needed today. I normally don’t read entire books in just one day, but I could not leave Clara and Omen’s story once I got started. This is everything I wanted from the story from the first time I heard the description of it from the author on TikTok.

The ONLY reason it took 2 sessions to finish reading was that it was 3 am and I had work in a few hours.
I adored this book! It was cozy and sweet and funny. Full lives/histories of the characters and real emotions kept me turning the page. And I definitely had a happy little sigh at the well earned end. I want to sit by a fire place and read this all over again.

The first half of the book was cute and funny, then it dragged and the characters became irritating, and I kept checking how many pages were left, not a good sign and don't let me get started on that stupid cat, my gud, it was just so ridiculous, it annoyed me to no end. I ended up skimming the last 30 pages, I just couldn't handle it anymore. 1/5 star.

Easy refresher read.
I think the plot was a bit rushed with the weird time difference in hell and reality.
I like that they slowly fall in love over mundane things though. This is exactly how a human would. It makes it relatable.
I also love a miscommunication trope as long as there is no other woman drama. And this def delivered a unique twist!

The book was a bit weird. It was more like a movie written out than a book. Not much worldbuilding, limited characters, a cat without purpose, a lot of timeskips with no information, ...
It feels, when you start reading the book, that you arrive in the middle of a story that has been going on for a while. You keep feeling like a spectator and never like part of the story.

This was a good palette cleanser. It's a slow burn and has good banter, and is funny in ways you wouldn't expect. I also really like that there's basically a whole chapter on how the demon deals when the witch gets her period.

It was a really fun read! The plot is well included throughout the story for a novella and the characters are amazing.
