Wesley and Addison grew up together. They’ve been next-door neighbors and best friends their whole life. Everyone sees they’re more than that—Except Addison.
Wesley’s been in love with her for years. But he won’t tell her. He won’t ruin their friendship. And he won’t be the reason she has to choose.
Because she’s with someone else. Someone who doesn’t know her like he does. And Wesley can hardly stand watching from a distance anymore.
One road trip across state lines changes everything.
Because friends don’t look at each other like they do.
Oh my goodness, this was such a great book! Friends Don’t was my first book by Jordan Riley and it’s safe to say, she is one of my new favorite authors. I received this book yesterday as an ARC and as soon as I started it, I couldn’t put it down - I read the whole thing in one sitting!
This book has everything I love: Christian themes sprinkled throughout, childhood-friends-to-lovers, small town, a close-knit family, Bible studies together, and so much more. Addie does battle anxiety throughout the book; however, it was written and put into words so well, and I related to her on so many levels.
Addie and Wesley’s story was written to perfection and I cannot wait to read more books written by Jordan!
Jordan Riley’s writing is heartfelt and relatable, with just the right mix of emotion, humor, and Christian themes. It’s perfect for readers looking for a sweet Christian romance, small-town setting, and meaningful character growth.
This book was much better than the 1st one in the series because it was easier to read and I was able to relate more to the MFC. The first one took me a minute to get through, but the Friends Don't story was SO GOOD! I'm a sucker for small town romance and also romance that starts off as friends! I have forgotten how much I love reading faith-based books too and this one will be a good one to come back to when I need a little bit of Jesus ☺️ I had the opportunity to be an Arc reader for this book so this is my honest review :)
There is just something about Jordan Riley's books that are super relatable to me. I love that while her characters are Christian who strive to live out their faith, they also fall short and don't always get it right... but still keep going just the same. Rather than feeling like characters that I could never live up to... they instead feel like people I actually know. (Seriously, I grew up in the country, and I feel like I know so many people who would fit into this family perfectly!) While these flawed characters might not be what everyone wants in a Christian read, personally, I think we need more stories just like this! And there is no character I've related more to than Addison! As someone who struggles with severe anxiety myself, Addison's struggles- while not entirely the same as my own- still felt so familiar to me! Her struggles in that are a huge part of the story, and as was stated in the author's note, that's absolutely what life with anxiety can be like! And the way Wesley shows up for her, sees her needs and doesn't make her feel bad for her struggles!? I just absolutely love it! These two have a really sweet friendship and I loved seeing them make that transition into even more. I'm a sucker for a MMC who falls first, and well... Wesley certainly has that covered. If you enjoy a tender romance with country vibes, this is one to check out!
Friends Don't is a faith-filled closed-door romance with kisses only on page, though there are mentions of sex (from a Biblical perspective). There is some minor language throughout as well. This is part of the Jennings Family series, but I do believe it could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
This was a cute love story about 2 childhood best friends who take a bit to find out they're truly more.
Let's just take a moment to appreciate Wes. Thoughtful, caring, would do anything to make sure Addie is at ease. Hates her boyfriend, but doesn't try to swoop in and steal her. Don't get me wrong, everyone has their faults, and Wes is no different.
Addie struggles with her anxiety and feels like she owes it to everyone to push herself outside of her comfort zone (when she shouldn't have to prove anything to anyone). She's strong, loving, and has dreams and aspirations that she's honest about how her anxiety might affect them.
I really enjoyed the relationship progression of Wes and Addie. I also enjoyed the growth we get to see in Addie with her anxiety.
Their first kiss?! I melted - it was that good!
I love that Jordan's characters always feel like real people, imperfections and all.
Tropes:
💜 Small town 🚜 He falls first 💜 Best friends to more 🚜 Bible study dates 💜 Closed door 🚜 Anxiety rep 💜 Close family 🚜 Road trip
Thank you @jordan for this eARC opportunity in exchange for my honest review.
Okay, this was such a good book! This is the first one I’ve read by Jordan Riley, and I’m a fan. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I knew the teasers I had seen were too good to pass up.
Addie and Wesley’s story was PRECIOUS. They’re nineteen and best friends. She really struggles with anxiety and feeling like she’s not worth the “trouble” of dating, but he is SO patient and understanding with her. It helps that he’s been in love with her for years. Seeing them grow and change in their relationship was so fun. Their first kiss? 🔥 I didn’t think Wesley had it in him, but as soon as I read it, I was like, “huh, bro respectfully held out as long as he could.”
These characters felt real and deep. They weren’t perfect by any means, which made them relatable and interesting to read about.
This book has minor cursing throughout and mildly detailed kiss scenes.
This was a fun, easy read that still felt real and meaningful.
I had the privilege of receiving an advance copy of this book, and I have provided my honest opinion.
What a sweet and faith-based story. The main couple was cute and I love all the elements present in the story: Bible studies, Sunday church, family/friends hang outs, close-knit family, small town vibes and heartfelt conversations.
I think anyone struggling with anxiety could relate with Addison, her struggles, her doubts and fears.
* This is a faith-filled closed-door romance with small town vibes. * Thank you to Jordan for this E-ARC opportunity. * All the opinions expressed are purely my own.
I love the family in this series. They are just a good wholesome family and I love it. Not perfect but good. This book has a lot of anxiety rep and I love the mental health rep and how our choices can effect our anxiety. Then of course I will always love a mmc that loves through the hard times that make an fmc feel loved when she feels unlovable. He sees her and knows her deeply and knows what she needs. Wes was just that.
I FREAKING loved this book. Thank you Jordan for allowing me to read the ARC version.
I can relate so much to Addison. The anxiety feels so real and I loved how Jordan wrote it. Wesley is an amazing book boyfriend and how he cares so much about Addison's anxiety, reminds me so much of my husband. Thank you Jordan for writing this beautiful story.
This book just made it onto my favorites list!! I’m not even exaggerating. I absolutely loved every second of it! As a Christian, this book had everything I had hoped for and MORE! It’s officially one of my new favorites, and I will definitely be reading it again. I had never read one of Jordan Riley’s books before, but I’ll definitely be purchasing the rest of the series now. The author did such a good job. She didn’t just write romance, she wrote a purposeful, faith-based kind of romance. You can tell she pours her love into these characters and takes her time with their stories. She doesn't rush things or leave readers wondering.
Now about the main characters, Wesley and Addison. I LOVED THEM! Their friendship-turned-love story was everything. Wes being there for Addison through everything, her anxiety, breakup, etc., was so wholesome. The time they made for each other, not just going out to fish or hanging out in the barn, but also spending time in God’s Word, was incredible. The way the author describes Wes looking at Addison melts my heart because he loves her not out of lust but with pure, Christ-like love.🥺He knew about her struggles with anxiety and never pressured her. He knew how to take care of her. And their road trip?!?!
Addie’s brothers were pure comedy gold. They had me cracking up every time they showed up. So overprotective, so chaotic, but also clearly full of love. Literal joy. It felt like catching up with old friends and seeing how far they’ve come. I loved every second of it.
This book was amazing. If I could rate it six stars, I would! It made me feel so many different emotions. I laughed, I smiled like crazy, and I finished it with the fullest heart for these characters. It was heartfelt, faith-filled, clean, and full of the kind of love one can pray for. If you’re looking for a new book, this is it!!
Friends Don’t is a sweet, friends to more romance centered around Addison and Wesley. Addie and Wes are neighbors and childhood best friends. Addison has a boyfriend that doesn’t understand her and doesn’t treat her the way she deserves. She struggles from crippling anxiety and Brantley just doesn’t get it. But Wesley does. He knows how to read Addie, has earned her trust, and knows how to put her at ease. Her comfort is always his priority. It just so happens he’s also in love with her. Everyone sees it but Addison. Will Addie finally realize that friends don’t act the way they do?
I could really relate to Addison’s battle with anxiety. I thought the author did a great job portraying the struggle. Often times, people who have never dealt with anxiety have a hard time understanding why you can’t “just relax” or “be logical”. Wesley was absolutely precious! The way he cared for Addison was so sweet. He never pushed her or made her feel bad about her anxiety. Instead, he was patient, supportive, and encouraged her with scripture. He reminds me a lot of my husband. He tried to be respectful of her relationship but it was difficult for him to watch her make up excuses for Brantley. The roadtrip together changed everything. I loved watching their relationship change and grow. I also loved seeing her relationship with her brothers. They were each so different but protective in their own ways.
This was a quick, easy read with lots of emotional depth. The MCs are young. Addie came across as a little immature at times regarding her relationship with her boyfriend. I would have loved to see more dialogue and interactions between Addison and Wesley, especially after the roadtrip. The ones included were so good; they made me want more. The Extra Bonus Chapter was chef’s kiss!
Thank you to Jordan Riley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
OH MY GOSH!! My new favorite book!! This was literally the BEST book I've ever read!! If you haven't read her books yet what are you waiting for?!! I cannot wait for this book to come out and everyone can read it and enjoy it as much as I did!!
~I just love Wesley and Addison!! They are literally the cutest couple ever! It's sooo sweet how Wes has always been in love with her! Their road trip was so cute! I related so much to Addie, I've never related more to a book character! I loved seeing all the other MC's from all the other books and all their little babies!! And Addie's brothers are hilarious! They're so protective over her that it's hilarious! I felt all the emotions during this book! I cried during sad parts and when I understood exactly what Addie was going through. I laughed until my stomach hurt, specifically when the brothers were there lol. I had a big smile on my face during Wes and Addie's moments together!
~BLURB Wesley and Addison grew up together. They've been next-door neighbors and best friends their whole life. Everyone sees they're more than that... Except Addison. Wesley's been in love with her for years. But he won't tell her. He won't ruin their friendship. And he won't be the reason she has to choose. Because she's with someone else. ~Title: Friends Don't ~Author: Jordan Riley ~Release date: September 4th ~Rating: ⭐️6 ~Spice: 🌶️2x
This book is so cute!!! I quite enjoyed the very long friendship that Wes and Addie have! Wes, the MMC, is a strong yet gentle man, a farmer, with firm beliefs, easygoing, and a true friend. Addie, the FMC, is a strong-willed, brave even when she’s afraid and her anxiety is getting the better of her, bubbly, witty, with firm beliefs as well. I’ve always loved the friends-to-lovers trope. There’s something about a relationship starting off as a friendship. I love the way Wes understands Addie and supports her needs without second-guessing. The way he reminds her what she’s worth and the wonderful person she is. I love the way that Wes always makes Addie feel safe and seen. Appreciated and loved for who she is, and the same goes for how she sees him. If you love cute romances, faith-based, with a witty FMC and a gentleman of an MMC, you will enjoy this book!
Please note, there are trigger warnings. The FMC has strong anxiety that affects her in a few ways.
Tropes: 🐄Friends to lovers ❄️Anxiety rep 🐄He fell first and harder ❄️Faith centered 🐄Road trip ❄️Bible studies together
Wesley is a dream man. He’s very respectful, kind, gentle hearted. I love him so much, I love how patient he was waiting for Addison to realize her feelings for him.
Friends don’t is about two best friends who live on neighboring farms, they’ve grown up together and Wesley has been in love with Addison since forever. She has a boyfriend named Brantley and so he doesn’t want to get in the way. After some struggles in her relationship and their friendship they grow from these situations.
I love this story so much, Jordan Riley did such a great job! I love all of her other stories but I think I love this one the most!! I love how the characters feel genuine, it feels like a realistic book. I love when you feel what the characters are feeling, and that’s how this book was. I loved how Wesley is as a character and how he is with Addison.
There’s something special about a love story that begins long before either person realizes it. Friends Don’t is the perfect slow burn romance between two childhood friends who realize that their love has been quietly growing between them all along🥰
I loved the small town setting and the close knit family that stayed grounded in their roots.
Addie is such a sweet soul who struggles with anxiety. So much of what I read was exactly how I felt- but could never put into words. Jordan did a beautiful job writing not only this book, but writing Addie’s character!
The pacing was perfect. Nothing was rushed, but I never got bored. I also loved the thread of faith that runs through their journey. Never preachy, just present!
This delivered all the butterflies, healing and hope you crave in a romance! Can’t wait to read more about the Jennings family! This would truly be my dream TV series!
This is my favorite yet! This contains spoilers 🫶🏻 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ TROPES: best friends, he falls first, Christian, closed-door SPICE: light 🌶️ - kissing, non-graphic make-out, one scene with a shirt off that the FMC is convicted and stops TRIGGERS: on page anxiety, emetophobia. As someone who struggles with anxiety, it was so good to see someone who is a whole person- lovable, multi-faceted, productive- not just their anxiety. I received this book as an arc💫 BUT I would have read it anyway. This is my fave by Jordan so far!

They’re best friends, he’s loved her for forever but she’s dating someone else. Once again Jordan completely knocked it outa the park with this book. From the sibling banter of the Jennings kids to the way she made Addison so relatable with her batter with anxiety, it’s a book that I could reread over and over. The characters are so relatable and the love story between Wesley and Addison is so swoon worthy. Wesley is the kinda man I think we all can love especially when he leave a sweatshirt in his truck that isn’t his size…… it’s hers🩷 So excited for the rest of this series and to fall in love even more with the Jennings Family.
I had the chance to read Friends Don’t as an ARC, and I am so glad I did! West and Addison’s relationship completely stole my heart, their friendship and chemistry made this such an addictive read. The ending was by far my favorite part; it left me smiling so big. 🥰 It’s the perfect example of “when you know, you know.”
Thank you Jordan for letting read this Arc! I still love your books! This one flowed soo well!
I was fortunate enough to receive an Advanced Reader’s Copy and I’m so thankful for the opportunity! Jordan does it again! Her books are captivating, sweet, wholesome, clean romance, and most importantly have faith in the story line. Addison and Wesley were the most precious couple and I loved their storyline! Cannot recommend Jordan’s books enough! Be sure and get your copy of Friends Don’t on September 4th!
This was such a cute story. Bestfriends to lovers. Wesley was so patient with Addie and also was so caring. Wesley know what she needed when she needed to calm down and Wes knew Addie was the one at the young age. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it. Thank you Jordan for letting me be part of the arc team!!
Blessed to be chosen to read this amazing Christian romance before the official release. Jordan knows how to write stories from a Christian pov that actually shows how imperfect we are as Followers of Christ and how a relationship with God Comes before a relationship with anyone else. And how havin a Christian man in your life completely changes not only your relationship but also you yourself.
JORDAN!!!! You did it again, although I had no doubt!! One of my favorite tropes is friends to lovers and you captured it so well!! This is such a heartfelt story of Wesley and Addison figuring it out and he is just SWOON worthy!! I found myself smiling ear to ear so many times while reading!!
Honestly this was very sweet. I liked Wesley and I appreciated Addison’s anxiety rep. It just felt too fast. Wesley and Addison had been friends for years, but more than half the book was mostly about Addison’s terrible relationship with her boyfriend. It just didn’t give enough time to go from having a long term boyfriend to a breakup to a new relationship, even one that was already somewhat established. I wanted more Wesley and less jerky ex boyfriend.
⭐️4 I really really liked this book! The storyline was wonderful and so was the character growth🩷 I felt so seen 🥹 because of Addie. Wesley one of the best MMC ever! He was so patient and so caring. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of the swearing in this book, even though it was not much 🫠 I also loved how Addie’s brothers are so protective in the sibling banter is literally a chef’s kiss🥰
tropes: 💛 best friends to lovers 💛 he falls first 💛 anxiety rep 💛 small town 💛 road trip romance 💛 bible study date
CONTENT: - kisses only (closed door) - 9 swear words
I absolutely adored this book. It was everything I love in a clean, heartfelt romance. The fact that it has little to no spice made the emotional connection shine even brighter. Addison and Wesley’s story is so sweet, and the way their relationship slowly unfolded felt natural, tender, and beautifully written.
One of my favorite parts of their story is how deeply Wesley knows Addison especially her anxiety. He understands her in a way no one else does, and you can feel that he’s been the safe place in her life for years. It makes the friends-to-lovers arc hit even harder, because it becomes so obvious that he was the one all along. Not because he was convenient, but because he truly got her.
And I love that it’s Wesley who fell first. Watching him quietly love her, protect her heart, and never push her before she was ready made my heart ache in the best way. Addison taking her time to see what had always been right in front of her was so realistic and so worth the wait.
The dual POV was perfect too getting inside both of their heads made every moment feel richer and more emotional, and it helped me connect with them on such a deep level. Honestly, the whole series is amazing cozy, charming, and full of characters you can’t help but root for.
If you’re looking for a low-spice, small-town romance with real heart, slow-burn tension, and a love story built on genuine understanding and friendship, this book is absolutely it. Highly recommend!!

This book was such a sweet and refreshing Christian romance. From the very beginning, it had a strong foundation rooted in faith without ever feeling forced or overly preachy. The way the author wove the Lord into the storyline felt natural and genuine — faith wasn’t just mentioned, it truly shaped the characters’ decisions, growth, and love story.
The plot was beautifully developed and kept me engaged the whole way through. It was deep and meaningful, yet still so tender and heartwarming. I especially appreciated how realistic the characters were. They had flaws, doubts, and real-life struggles, which made their journey feel authentic and relatable. Their spiritual growth alongside their romantic relationship added so much depth to the story.
It was cute without being shallow, emotional without being heavy, and inspiring without losing the sweetness of romance. You could truly feel the intentionality behind every chapter. A well-written, faith-filled love story that left me encouraged and reminded of the beauty of keeping Christ at the center.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves a romance that honors the Lord while still giving you all the butterflies. 💛
This was such a cute read, y’all. Addison is a young woman who struggles with anxiety and is in a relationship that isn’t quite the right fit for her. All the while, her best friend Wesley has to love her as he’s watching Addie with another man. After a long snowy trip, feelings are confessed and a dynamic shifts in their relationship, leading them down a path toward a love sought & fought for. ☺️
You best believe I teared up when Wes prayed over Addie and her anxious thoughts. As someone who has her own anxiety struggles, the heartfelt prayers are so necessary and appreciated.
If you’re looking for a quick friends-to-lovers romance with faith elements, you should pick up this one. 💙
This is a closed-door romance with some language and kisses only. There is mention of anxiety a parental heart attack. The author has content warnings at the beginning of the book.
Thanks for the ARC, Jordan! All thoughts are my own. 😊

Where to begin about Friends Don’t by Jordan Riley! This was my very first ARC and boy was it a great one!! This book gave me all the feels. Frustration, understanding, joy, heartbreak, compassion, you name it.
I felt a personal connection with Addison and her anxiety. Living with anxiety of any kind is frustrating and it’s very hard. I could feel the weight it had on the FMC and her relationships as I read their story.
And Wesley *swoons* He was so patient and waited for Addison for years. He never gave up on the hope that one day they would be together.
I absolutely adore the Bible studies and adding the Bible verses into their story. And HE PRAYED FOR HER!!! (i definitely teared up at that part 🥲)
I need more of the Jennings Family’s story ASAP. If you love fade to black romance with depth and faith at its core, this one’s for you!
This is a cute, friends to lovers story with some faith elements in it. I liked the Bible study sessions Wes and Addison have and their friendship evolution from the beginning of the book where Wes has to face how much Addison means to him but he can’t do anything about it since she is in a relationship with someone who doesn’t suit her. I enjoyed Addison’s character and the representation of anxiety and how it can affect one’s life. Jordan did a great job portraying it accurately and it was nice to see it being represented in this story. I am very interested to see what’s next in this series.
