This book is a smooth and cozy read with a twist of classic fairytales.
It starts abruptly in an eerie way which instantly caught my attention and I couldn't put the book down.
Although as much as I liked it, the writing sometimes felt too rushed. But the plot was intriguing and the characters were well developed as well, so I would definitely recommend this book!

I like the premise… Valentina learns she is a member of the Royal family but when she moves into the house, things aren’t quite right. A curse has infected the castle and all the people in. With her newfound sister, Valentina and Amari must solve the mystery of the curse and right its chaos.

But it starts off a bit disjointed and the plot really becomes unclear. Seemed to switch tenses in spots. And the magic is touched on but not made to feel like it’s a major trope.

I see the effort and think the author will continue to grow in her writing style!

Advertised as YA but did feel a bit more mid-grade throughout.

I really enjoyed this book. It sucked me in so fast, and I finished in 2 days. I gave this a 3 🌟 because I didn't get much of the back story of the royal family and the neighboring kingdoms, and I felt the writing was all over the place. I loved how this book was so engaging and that the sisters were out to get each other, although they started working together. But this book left me with a lot of unanswered questions.

Jumping straight into the chaos, my curiosity has no bounds. Amira and Valentina, separated at birth, reunited as part of their (new found family), the royal family, enter the kingdom where nothing is as it appears. The sisters and other pivotal minor characters possess magical abilities tied to various elements, although this aspect is in the plot itself not explored in depth.
Meanwhile, a palace coup is imminent, and they must either join the fray or alter the course of events. As the plot thickens and the story unravels, my interest is piqued! Who doesn’t love a mystery. As a mysterious affliction has besieged the castle, ensnaring all its inhabitants, They're in a world of trouble, but they're completely oblivious.
It's like a crazy quilt- broken mirrors, teacups, daggers, and fire all mixed together. Oh My!! Valentina and Amari must unravel the enigma of the curse and rectify its chaos. Can they put an end to this mayhem before it's too late?

This is a debut YA fantasy featured around 2 sisters, Amira and Valentina. The sisters are trying to unfold the mystery surrounding the Darklight royals and why they are in danger.
I have to admit I re-read the first few chapters, because I needed some clarity about Valentina and Amira plan.
Although the history behind each character unfolded in the later chapters. I would have liked the Prologue to touch a bit on Destiny ( small intro- just a glimmer); this may make the first few chapter flow better.
I really enjoyed each character and how they were brought to life( including the animals).
Although I must say my favorite was Lucia!! For her ride or die friendship with Valentina. I can totally see myself spending time in the Brightlight’s palace.
This book would be a great read for pre- teens /Teens, as well since this is a clean fantasy (no curses or spice).
I’m curious to see what the next book will have? Will it be more magic? More mystery? Hmmmm🤔🤔
Thank you Madi for allowing me the opportunity to read an advance copy.

Nice quick read! I liked the overall story but feel like it could've had more background and details throughout. Chapters starting in the middle of a page really bothered me but that's just a minor detail. Overall a good first book!

A decent debut story following two girls who find themselves in the middle of political intrigue and as the new royal family.

The plot was a little disjointed, with some details missing to fully flesh out the story. There was little character buildup or growth; I felt like this book could have been a little longer for world building and a better build up to the future books in the series.
