ARIANA TAKES COMMAND by Simon Wolfe A Book Review by AZP September 2025
Fulfilling mission, ‘pleasure dome’ and tempering!
In this new release instalment of the book series, Ariana becomes the captain of the Damselfly. She, her best friend – Treanka and their friend Emily, embark on a mission to solve the mysterious death of a scientist in one of the outer - space colonies. Dashed on the scenes of outer space spectacles and mission undertakings are the glimpses of the characters’ internal struggles of fear, courage and dedication, as they navigate to fulfill their important tasks.
It features speckled episodes of an ‘out of this world’, sensually titillating, stress-relieving exercises of the characters and the curious ‘pleasure dome’ scenes which the book-series attribute. It highlights, in the end, the value of taking care of the environment as one key to a prolonged survival and continuity of a kind or species.
A lot of characters. I’ll start off by saying I didn’t read the prior books before taking a chance on this fantasy-scifi adventure. Ariana is moving up in the world, she takes command of her own ship, having started this story where she was sharing the news of her promotion with her female friends / colleagues with benefits. The steam was mild, veered into polyamory…really, there didn’t seem to be a cohesive arc for the romance. The storyline relied overly much on omniscient-like narration and dialogue, as opposed to digging into the feelings and deeper POV of the characters.
All that said, the dynamic between the female friends makes this one an interesting and worthwhile read.
