I absolutely ADORED this book. Think Gilmore Girls mixed with my all time favorite Halloween movie, Halloweentown, add in the sisterhood and found family of Practical Magic and you’ll get Ashwood Haven. A Witches Guide to Surviving Halloween is the PERFECT cozy holiday romance for the fall brimming with witches, spells, curses, quirky characters, and swoony romance. I loved Amelia and Oliver and the quirky town so much!
𝓣𝓻𝓸𝓹𝓮𝓼 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓥𝓲𝓫𝓮𝓼: 🎃 Small Town 🎃 Slow Burn 🎃 Halloween Festival 🎃 Magical Bookstore 🎃 Generational Curse 🎃 Cozy Mystery Romance 🎃 Found Family 🎃 Sassy Sentient Sourdough Starter 🎃 Talking Bookworm 🎃 Mental Health Rep 🎃 Cinnamon Roll MMC
Truly truly enjoyed this book!! It gave all the fall ✨magic✨ vibes. It was fun and sweet. Amelia runs Moonlit pages, and after the sudden death of her grandma she takes over running the Halloween events for the town. Mind you Amelia is a witch and she Mets Oliver who bought the bakery across the street and funky things keep happening with magic every time they are together. Gilmore girls x Halloween witch vibes I lovedddd it 🤎🎃
Thank you SO much for this ARC read in exchange for an honest review 🤎
Witches. Magic. Spells. A Halloween Festival. A decades old curse. And the possibility of falling in love.
A. M. Eno hit it out of the park with this cozy, Halloween romance. I absolutely adore this book!
When her grandma passes, Amelia takes over her beloved bookstore. She also inherits hosting duties for the town's week long Halloween festival, despite not being a people person and fearing she can never fill her grandma's shoes.
Oliver comes to town, looking to start a family business after losing his. He wants to put down roots. What he doesn't expect to find is someone that sparks his interest or a curse threatening to pull them apart and push him out of town before they have the opportunity to explore a possible relationship.
This book is a journey in self-discovery for Amelia, and I found it so relatable, which made me fall more in love with the story and her character.
That ending...wow! I need Lucy's story pronto!
A Witch's Guide to Surviving Halloween is a sweet, must-read witchy romance!
Tropes/Themes: 💕 Small town romance 🎃 Halloween festival 👻 Spooky happenings 🪄 Generational curse ✨ Magical bookstore 🍞 Grumpy sourdough starter 🐛Talking bookworm
This was the best cutest cozy witchy palette cleanser and just what I needed!
There was minimal world building, but it was not needed in this book. I felt like the pacing was done well for the most part, but did feel like the ending was a little rushed.
I enjoyed the characters and the plot flowed well, as did the dialogue. I liked our main characters and I feel like they had good chemistry. I just loved the Halloween festivities that were happening in the little town they were in and how the curse affected the events.
This one was short and sweet and I do recommend if you’re looking for a small town cozy fall romance read!
I am, if nothing else, a vibes reader, and this book has checked off EVERYYYY fall vibe you could ask for!!!
🪄 Bestie witches 🪄 Talking sourdough starter 🪄 Apple fritters 🪄 A snarky bookworm 🪄 Spells and curses 🪄 Lattes 🪄 Forbidden love 🪄 And of course, Halloween
This is the perfect cozy start to the Falloween season 🍂🎃
Ftr, there is zero spice, which I actually loved as a happy little palette cleanser. Also, my baby's name is Oliver, so...I don't think I would have survived that.
When I tell you to run to KU to download this book when it comes out, I mean it. It was everything I could possibly want for spooky season. It was so cute, whimsy, funny and just perfect. From the very first page to the last, I was hooked. Ashwood Haven is a town I wish I could visit. I loved the personality of the bookstore and all the chaos that ensued with the magic of the town…like the sourdough and the worm 🤣 The pull between Amelia and Oliver was magnetic and I was eating it up. This is easily one of my new favorites and I can see myself reading it every October.
This book is absolute perfection for Halloween! It's a cozy, sweet, and utterly charming read. With its small town charm, quirky characters, and magical atmosphere, it's like an episode of Gilmore Girls on steroids (in the best way possible)! The mentions of treats, baked goods, and specialty drinks had me craving an apple fritter and a cup of hot cocoa. Amelia and Oliver's chemistry is undeniable, she owns a magical bookstore and he’s opening a bakery and their adventures together are full of whimsy and humor - especially when their spells go hilariously awry! Just one quick mention of the bookworm and sourdough, you will know what I mean when you get up to it! I loved watching Amelia confront her fears and learn to trust others. A delightful, feel good read that's perfect for the spooky season! 🎃️
All the cozy fall vibes are here in this book! I really enjoyed getting to delve into the town Ashwood Haven and meet all the members of the town. It very much felt like a mix of Halloween town and Gilmore Girls.
I really loved the friendship between Lucy and Amelia and how they really have each others backs no matter what! I think seeing the small (and large) sacrifices they make for each reminded me of my sisters.
It was beautiful to see Amelia’s growth into accepting that she is “allowed” to be her own person and her self discovery journey was so amazing to follow along made extra special by all the magic of the town.
I really liked how Amelia and Oliver came together and assured that magic magicked correctly in the town!
Can we take a second for the sassy bookworm and dramatic sourdough starter who added just the perfect amount of quirkiness to the town!
Highly recommend having a cozy beverage and pastry/baked item ready as you delve into Ashwood Haven!
Thank you to A.M Eno and Crowns and Chaos for this ARC!
I flew through this book in a single day—it's cozy, chaotic, and full of magical charm!
If you’re looking for a light-hearted, witchy read with Halloween vibes (both subtle and not-so-subtle), this is a perfect pick. The magical elements, from dancing skeletons to bickering books and even a sassy sourdough starter, bring the small town of Ashwood Haven to life in the most delightful way.
Amelia, our book-loving FMC, is incredibly relatable. Determined to honor her late grandmother’s legacy, she steps far outside her comfort zone to host a week-long Halloween festival. Even though public speaking feels as terrifying as fighting dragons, Amelia’s internal monologue, often comparing real life to her favorite bookish moments, is both hilarious and heartfelt.
Her best friend Lucy is a great support system, offering both magical insight and emotional grounding as Amelia navigates the chaos of running the bookstore, planning the festival, and dealing with unpredictable town magic.
Enter Oliver, the charming, cinnamon roll of a baker who’s new to town. His budding romance with Amelia is sweet and endearing, but when the town’s magic seems determined to keep them apart, the stakes rise. Together, they must find a way to resist the whims of Ashwood Haven before Oliver is magically pushed out for good.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. The vivid descriptions of the world, the mouth-watering food, and the quirky characters all worked together to create a charming, magical atmosphere.
That said, a couple of things felt a bit off. Oliver’s character seemed to bounce between standoffish and flirty, which was a little confusing at times. And the argument with Lucy felt somewhat out of character, but I can see how it sets things up nicely for book two.
This is the ultimate cozy autumn read, perfect for curling up with a blanket, a warm drink, and the spirit of Halloween in the air. Highly recommend for fans of light romance, whimsical magic, and a touch of seasonal mischief.
This book was so cute and absolutely hilarious 😂 It had that perfect balance of heart and humor, with deeper undertones about standing up for yourself and staying true to who you are, without ever feeling too heavy.
The fall vibes were immaculate 😍 (the perfect cozy close to October 🍂) Amelia and Lucy’s friendship and sisterly banter had me grinning the whole way through, and the instant attraction between Oliver and Amelia was the perfect blend of tension and swoon.
But it's the magical chaos totally stole the show for me. I laughed out loud so many times!(Much to the horror and confusion of everyone around me) 😂 Tolkien and George R.R. Martin books arguing over who’s better, a bookworm reading smutty scenes to horrified bookstore shoppers, and a singing sourdough loaf?? Absolute perfection. Pure magical chaos sprinkled with small-town charm, and I loved every second of it!
If you’re a fan of Charmed and Practical Magic and want a short, cozy read with the cutest fall vibes, a Halloween festival you’ll wish you could attend, and enough laughs to make your cheeks hurt... This one’s for you! ✨📚🎃
This was such a delightful book! It had all the cozy Halloween vibes while also touching on some more serious topics, and I felt like this was pretty well balanced.
There was a lot to love in this one - slow burn romance, quirky small town, a magical bookstore, a Halloween festival, witches, curses, found family, mental health rep, a cinnamon role MMC, and so much more!
Our FMC Amelia is still struggling with the death of her beloved grandmother when our MMC Oliver shows up in town to open a new bakery. Hijinks ensue because the magic of Ashwood Haven begins acting strangely. Amelia and her best friend Lucy reluctantly team up with Oliver to figure out why, and let’s just say the magic goes wild. 😂
While the bulk of this story is witchy and cozy, Amelia realizes she has some deep self-reflection to do in order to break the curse on her and Oliver. And in the meantime, poor Lucy ends up with a curse of her own. I can’t wait to read Lucy’s story to find out what’s next for her!
Thank you so much to A.M. Eno and Crowns and Chaos PR for the gifted copy of this book! 🎃✨
I LOVED this one so much. It is the perfect, cozy, small town Halloween read. When the magic goes haywire, the week long fall festival and the safety of everyone in attendance might be in jeopardy. All Amelia has to do is host all of the festival events and break a generational curse by Halloween. No problem, right?! Wrong. Surviving Halloween is definitely easier said than done.
If small town festivals, talking books, and singing sour doughs call your name, make this one a must read for October!
To be fair, let me start by saying that this is not my normal genre but I typically love to do a little palette cleansing with a romcom and this was screaming fall vibes.
This book is...solid. The characters are cute. The plot is cute and witchy. There are a lot of moments that made me laugh right out loud while I was reading on public transit. My fave is the bookworm (IYKYK)
That being said, none of the relationships felt particularly compelling. I wanted more out of the friendship between Amelia and Lucy. I wanted more yearning between between Amelia and Oliver.
Overall, this was like a Hallmark movie with good actors. Many thanks to A.M. Eno for an advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
A Witches Guide to Surviving Halloween by A.M. Eno
If you haven’t read anything by A.M. Eno then you are missing out! A.M. Eno has a very creative and imaginative story telling style that draws you in and keeps you hooked from start to finish!
This story was no different! I absolutely enjoyed seeing Lucy’s journey of self discovery and the budding romance that is being tested in this tale! This story pulls at all of the heart strings in your body! With curses, romance, Halloween vibes, witchy vibes, a generational curse, and so much more!
This is the perfect spooky time read when you want something lighter but still very witchy and interesting!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is such a perfect little Halloween novella. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump and this cozy small town romance was the perfect seasonal palette cleanser! The small town vibes made this such a fun read and the plot had a great flow to it. Even though there was no spice, the chemistry was on point! If you are looking for a cute Halloween read to break up the spooky reads, you’ll want to check this out for sure.
A small town. Witches. A week-long Halloween festival. A slow burn romance. A generational curse. And of course, the famous talking sourdough starter 🥖
A Witch’s Guide To Surviving Halloween follows Amelia, a small town witch that owns a magical bookshop in the town of Ashwood Haven, her best friend Lucy, and newcomer Oliver who just bought the bakery across the street.
This was the perfect cozy fall palette cleanser. It’s a quick read, with an adorable setting and a comforting romance to boot. This story explores how magic can be unpredictable, and sooner rather than later the gang realizes that for themselves. When the magic starts to go awry, it’s up to our trio to figure out why and how to stop it.
I loved the writing style, the pace at which the story took place, and the setting. I was really able to visualize myself in this town with them and put myself in the middle of all of their festivities. I was early rooting for Amelia and Oliver the whole book, while simultaneously experiencing some secondhand embarrassment for Amelia the way she reacted to some things. I’d say that’s for sure the mark of a good book.
The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star read for me was how rushed everything felt in the end. We went from a curse that seems unbreakable, to a quick, almost insulting resolution. If the end was fleshed out a bit more, this would have been a perfect read! Either way this is a book I’d definitely recommend to my friends, followers, and anyone looking to read a quick witchy romance.
If you liked The Ex Hex or books of a similar nature, you’ll love A Witch’s Guide To Halloween!
Thank you to the author and BookFunnel for an ARC copy in exchange for my honest feedback - this was a great read 🖤✨
This book was such a cozy breath of autumn air tinged with the scent of apples and pumpkin spice, accompanied by the sound of fallen leaves rustling in the crisp gentle breeze. I really love cozy witchy Halloween books and this was a great one to get me in the mood for the season! This one has a bookstore, a week long Halloween festival, a curse that needs to be broken, magic shenanigans, and a new mysterious man in town. What else could you possibly want in a cozy fall read?
eARC Review: The annual Halloween festival turns awry when the magic of this small town goes haywire due to a magical/generational curse.
Such a cute, quirky, cozy, and heartwarming story that left me wanting to bake some apple fritters and visit my favorite bookstores in the hope of finding some naughty magical books
This is a cute and short Halloween book! I enjoyed the magical hijinks and the main characters plus Lucy. If you are looking for a cozy book this month give this a shot!
Thank you A.M. Eno for the ARC of this cozy, fall, Halloween romance releasing October 7th, 2025!
This book is a perfect split of Gilmore Girls meets Halloween Town, but instead of a skeleton can driver, you get…a talking sourdough starter!
Amelia is a small town native to Ashwood Haven, running an enchanted bookstore with her best friend Lucy. When a newcomer arrives and opens up a bakery across the street, more than just sparks fly between this two and mischievous things are happening around the town’s favorite Halloween festival.
🍁 Slow Burn 🍁 Small Town 🍁 Cozy Fall Romance 🍁 Halloween Festival 🍁 Magical Bookstore 🍁 Generational Curse
okay so this book is cute and the concept was cute, but i gotta say if the author were to rewrite it and make it longer and give more relationship building it would be sooooo much better. its def perfect for halloween though!
Witchy, cozy, pumpkin spice & all things nice! A Witch’s Guide to Surviving Halloween is a charming, quick read that perfectly captures the spirit of fall. If you're looking to curl up with something magical, lighthearted, and full of autumn vibes, this one's for you.
We follow Amelia, the owner of Moonlit Pages, a beloved family-run bookstore she inherited in a town filled to the brim with magic. As Halloween approaches and the town’s festivities are underway, mysterious magical disturbances begin to stir. Enter Oliver, a newcomer and fellow business owner, whose arrival seems to coincide with the chaos. An unlikely pairing between the two brings the reader to experience a full circle moment at the veils thinnest time.
Personal thoughts: I so wish there was more! I didn’t want to put it down, and I’m incredibly grateful to have received an ARC of this cozy gem. While I understand the book’s goal is to be a light, feel-good read (which it absolutely nails) I was left wanting just a bit more. A deeper exploration of Amelia’s relationship with her grandmother, or more build-up in the romance with Oliver, would have made it even more satisfying. Still, it’s a delightful seasonal treat I’d recommend to anyone who loves cozy fantasy with a dash of romance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ No spice except a couple searing kisses This book is the perfect witchy small town fall read that draws you in like a cozy warm hug
💜The book made me feel like sitting next to a bonfire curled up in your favorite blanket with a crisp autumn breeze blowing around you causing the leaves to mystical dance through the air while eating a s’more and sipping apple cider looking up at a clear night sky with a luminous full moon. 💜
🪄👻There is magical family-owned bookstore, Moonlit Pages, with a coffee shop run by two witchy best friends, Amelia and Lucy. Amelia is still reeling and recovering from the loss of her Grandma and trying to fill her shoes to host the annual Halloween celebrations despite being an introverted soul with a quickly draining social battery. Just in time for the festivities, you met the new to town mysterious and handsome baker Oliver, who despite having perpetual wanderlust is drawn to this town to start a bakery and set down some permanent roots. When Oliver and Amelia meet sparks fly, both good and bad, and the magic goes from charming to chaotic every time they are together. Will Amelia be able to figure out why the magic is acting up and save the hijinks from ruining the Halloween festival while continuing to get closer to Oliver or will them being together destroy it all?
🎃Also I want to know where I can find a town that hosts a week long nightly celebration for Halloween because sign me up for every event and I want to move there right now. 🎃
🖤🧡I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it. Thank you for the eARC and fingers crossed for a book about Lucy. 🧡🖤
Some of my favorite quotes that made me grin and chuckle: 🧡“I’m the bookworm, obviously.” The bookworm, as if they were hired for the job, and I promptly forgot. I stare at it for a moment, not really sure how a person even responds to that. “What are you doing?” “I’m doing what bookworms do, dear. Talking about books. Just be thankful the book dragon isn’t here.” The worm rolls its head as if rolling its eyes, as dramatic as a mistress in a harlequin novel. “They’re absolute menaces when it comes to a practical discussion about quality. They’re far too busy collecting to actually keep up with what’s new.”
🧡“I bite into the fritter and am immediately transported to an apple orchard in the country that’s been around for so many generations, even the barn cats know how to make cider.”
Let's talk about A Witch's Guide to Surviving Halloween by A.M. Eno.
I ate this book up! It was such a cute, chaotic, fun, cozy read that I finished it in less than a day. A.M. Eno - where have you been hiding?? This book was super cute: with all it's little magical elements, cute witchy vibes, a curse that has to be broken, and chaos happening when two people meet and connect.
Amelia is adorable - coming from a long line of witches who have been running the long standing bookstore in town, she's always looked up to her Grandmother and knows that she's got big shoes to fill especially after her passing. With her best friend Lucy, Amelia's taking the reins and doing her best. Then steps in Oliver, the new guy in town who has just bought the local bakery across the street. Instantly they are drawn to each other. Is it an instant meet-cute? Yes it is. Did I fall for it and love every part of it? Yes I did.
"The moment I saw him, I had automatically compared him to the men in my books..."
I could have quoted this entire book, the way A.M. described Amelia's thoughts and reflections. Constantly with her head drawn to her books, Amelia's pull for Oliver is sweet and funny. She's wanting to kiss his lips to see if he'd taste like butter and berries. But when things go astray - or more so the magic in town, Amelia and Oliver are now on the hunt to find out why everything is going topsy-turvy.
If you're looking for a cute, Halloweenish, holiday romance that will melt your heart, this book ticks off all the feels. Loaded with yummy sweets, hot drinks, funny bookworms, dancing skeletons, and an MMC that makes you swoon, this one is a must for the season.
Thank you to Crowns and Chaos PR and A.M. Eno for the ARC and for my open and honest feedback.
✨ Cozy Fantasy ✨ Small Town Vibes ✨ Holiday Chaos ✨ Magical Antics ✨ Magical Realism ✨ Meet-Cute
First off I’d like to apologize to our author A.M. Eno: along with life things I was getting ready for a trip to England to visit family so I really didn’t have the chance to focus on this, along with the fact that living in OC California and working in the corporate world I really wasn’t feeling the autumn vibes I desperately wanted. So I know I’m late here, but I finally found time to read this on our drives to and from magical Wales, where I was finally feeling ✨cosy✨. Being with my family and in a place where autumn autumns as it should really made me WANT to read this and it met those cosy vibes 10 times over . I’ve been reading quite a bit of romantasy and dark academia lately so this was really a much needed breath of fresh air while still catering to my whimsy wants that I love to devour. ALL the autumn vibes were very much present…Small town, Halloween events, Small bookshop, sweet romance, naughty magic on the loose, best friends who are both witches, bakery, supportive community…really, what more could we want?? It was hard not to compare myself so much to our main girlie Amelia. I am introverted as h e double hockey sticks, and my social battery really doesn’t take much to wear me down and exhaust me by the end of my days. I loved seeing her accept that rather than try to change herself, and love that she found power in that while still growing as a person…sometimes acceptance, instead of change, is what people need to grow and that’s the development I noticed here. Lucy is hands down a great friend and I’m glad we were gifted a little snippet from her POV…maybe we’ll have a chance to read about Lucy and her conquests in the form of her own book? I vote…yes, YES please! Oliver…oh my guy Oliver. I liked him but that was sort of it - I liked him. I wish…I wish…I wiiiiish there was a little more yearning from our dude. Some internal struggle with “are my feelings from the curse?” to no, “my feelings definitely aren’t all from this curse. I want my girl” . I don’t know, the romance was VERY sweet and I was of course rooting for these two, but a little more tension would have taken them so much farther. A deeper dive into their families and the magic they each possess would have been fun to read about (but then again, that would make this more than a sweet, short autumn read I suppose). That being said, I’m glad our girl went for what she wanted, curse be dammed. If Ashwood Haven will have me I’d be honored to move there in a flash! I hope we get to see more of this magical little town and what they have to offer. This was such a sweet read and I really am so grateful I received this ARC from our author and BookFunnel for an honest review.
A Witch’s Guide to Survive Halloween is the perfect fall read. It has all the right ingredients to be that book you grab on a cool fall morning and cuddle up under some cozy blankets, and for that reason, I loved this story. A cozy bookstore filled with magical tomes, two witchy best friends, a hot new-to-town baker and an annual Halloween festival as the main attraction, count me in. I was fully immersed in the atmosphere of this story. I continued to get lost in my own thoughts, which involved me on the streets of Ashwood Haven (my brain can’t compute the name of this town being Ashwood Haven, and I keep saying Ashenwood, SO forgive me), participating in all the fun festivities, so despite this being a relatively short story, I took my sweet time mentally being involved in every aspect.
Let’s get down to the characters. Amelia runs Moonlit Pages, a cozy bookstore with her bestie, Lucy. Amelia is currently haunted by the recent loss of her grandmother and fears letting herself and the town down as the host of this year’s festival. She’s doing her very best despite the series of bizarre magical disturbances wreaking havoc on the small town. Why do you have to kick a girl while she’s down? Determined to uncover the source of the chaos, Amelia reluctantly teams up with Oliver, a mysterious newcomer who has taken over the bakery across the street. I loved all three of these characters. They were so charming! I couldn’t get enough, but I hate to say this, but Oliver, you are a sweetheart, but the friendship between Amelia and Lucy was just too good. I loved them. I wanted more of them, and Oliver got in the way a bit. He was a good character, a perfect guy for our girl Amelia, but I just love a good friendship, and these two were great. They were a true ride-or-die, and I appreciated that. But Amelia has the key to my heart. She was so relatable, and I felt a strong connection to her character.
The chaos of this story is filled with encounters in enchanted forests, cryptic histories, and whimsical adventures, which make for a fun time. If that doesn’t scream fun to you, how about a talking sourdough starter, a bookworm, delicious, rich hot chocolate, flavorful chilli, and a bunch of arguing tomes? If you aren’t quite in the fall spirit and need a little help, this will surely be the story to get you in the spirit.
