I Survived Suicide by Killing Myself: From Pain to Purpose
Trapper Searles had every reason to build walls around his heart. Growing up in a less than ideal environment with volatile parents, he learned early that survival meant self-reliance. But his journey from that chaotic childhood to becoming a successful entrepreneur and family man wasn't the happy ending he expected—it was just the beginning of his most profound challenges.
After building The Garage Doctor into a thriving business and creating what appeared to be a picture-perfect life with his wife Sam and adopted daughter Jaiden, Trapper discovered Sam's ongoing connection with her childhood sweetheart. The betrayal sent him spiraling toward suicide until a timely call from his daughter pulled him back from the edge. Just as they were rebuilding their marriage, Sam suffered a catastrophic subarachnoid hemorrhage that transformed their lives overnight—and Trapper from husband to caregiver.
With unflinching honesty, Searles recounts moments that would break most jumping from a cliff during a fishing trip and later planning to drive off a mountain road, discovering evidence of his wife's emotional affair, and navigating 76 days in the ICU at the hospital as Sam fought for her life. Yet through these crucibles, he discovers what truly matters.
"Nothing to Everything" challenges conventional notions of success, questioning whether achieving financial and material goals brings genuine fulfillment. Searles candidly discusses the complexities of marriage and caregiving, offering hard-earned wisdom about intimacy, resilience, and the messy reality of commitment. His story reminds us that perspective is our most powerful tool—one that allows us to find meaning even in our darkest moments.
This memoir isn't just about survival—it's about thriving by embracing authenticity, facing hard truths, and finding purpose beyond possessions. For anyone seeking meaning beyond material success or struggling to navigate life's unexpected detours, Searles offers a blueprint for building a fulfilled life grounded in self-knowledge and genuine connection.

This is a book that definitely leaves the reader speechless from beginning to end. It is a true example of perseverance, resilience, pain, love, and other values.
The honesty with which the author tells his story is astonishing; it takes tremendous courage to share pain the way he does, yet always with respect and love, despite having gone through difficult moments caused by his loved ones.
It is incredible how, in just 151 pages and with a writing style that is easy to understand and full of emotion, Trapper Searles, author of I Survived Suicide by Killing Myself, leads the reader to reflect on their own life, to think about what truly matters, and to assess how much value we give to things that are not worth it.
This is a book that everyone should read at some point in their life and, after doing so, make a turn in their existence.
It teaches us that, in the face of adversity, the only ones who have control are ourselves, and that the path we take is solely our decision.

Interesting
If you're expecting a feel-good story with a neat ending, this isn’t that kind of book… and honestly, that’s what makes it worth reading. I Survived Suicide by Killing Myself is brutally honest, sometimes uncomfortable, and always real. Trapper Searles tells it straight: life can fall apart, even when you’ve done everything “right.”
What I appreciated is that he doesn’t try to sell you easy answers. He talks openly about betrayal, mental breakdowns, and the long, painful road of rebuilding both his marriage and himself. There are moments when you wonder how anyone could endure what he did, but then, slowly, you see how perspective, connection, and resilience take root.
It’s not a guidebook, but it is a reminder that survival isn’t about being strong all the time, it’s about being honest, even when things get ugly. This is a memoir with grit, heart, and a lot of hard-won wisdom.

This is a masterclass in vulnerability, courage, and healing. Searles invites readers deep into his darkest moments, exposing the fractures beneath a seemingly “successful” life. I really appreciated the unfiltered honesty with which he explores betrayal, mental health, and caregiving. His transformation, from broken to purposeful, is heartbreaking and inspiring. You don’t just read this book; you feel it. It challenges societal views on success and forced me to reevaluate what truly matters. For anyone facing emotional turbulence, caregiving burnout, or questioning life’s purpose, this book offers a powerful reminder: perspective saves lives. It’s heavy, yes, but profoundly human. A must-read for those ready to confront pain and emerge with purpose.

Great Book
I must admit that the book’s title initially sparked my curiosity, though I didn’t know what to expect. I feared it might be a difficult story to read, preventing me from fully grasping its messages. However, the way it is written is deeply inspiring and transformative, motivating readers to make real changes in their lives. I believe that when one leaves behind old practices and habits they once thought defined them, everything can transform. Embracing change without fear of letting go of what no longer serves is key to experiencing a unique personal transformation. This book achieves it with clear, sensitive, and motivating language. Highly recommended!

I met Trapper on tiktok,
reading his book helped me understand better with my own personal experience with cheating spouses. I've always been the "what did I do wrong" or "what can I do to help you" never realized it wasn't me. It was them. I would 100% recommend anyone and everyone to read this if you are ever sitting there wondering what you could pr could have done in your marriage that would have made a difference.
