One Year with the Billionaire Grump

Rate this book
I hijacked her company for revenge and married her for show.
She thinks it’s a twelve-month contract—I’ve decided it’s forever.

Kate Hartley’s audacious blue stare sparks a wicked heat I refuse to name.
She counters with an insane proposal.

One year of marriage.
She won’t fight me in court if I keep her start-up outside my takeover.

We collide the minute she moves into my penthouse.
She demands an office; I park her in a closet by the gym.
She splits the bed with pillows; I refuse to stop sleeping naked.

Hungry media cameras demand chemistry.
At a photo shoot, she calls me smug.
Backstage, I pin her to a wall and our passion torches every strategy I have.

She charms my mother, high-fives my nephews destroying me in Mario Kart, and our “pretend” honeymoon in Tuscany turns blazingly real.

She’s fire to my ice, burning through every wall I’ve built.

Before time runs out, I need to convince her we’re not a contract.
We’re a forever kind of deal.

One Year with the Billionaire Grump by Gwynne Hart Book Review

Rivalry from the offset. The way that Kate is sitting riles up Paul. This is comical. We are in for a ride of Enemies to lovers trope and I can't wait.

An arranged Marriage.

Both our characters have had a hard past that has led them to where they are today. Gwynne writes believable characters driven by their emotions. Will they let those emotions get in the way?

Special mention to Winnie the dog who could always bring people together.

What happens when Paul discovers the truth, that things are never as they seem?

“A warmth that has nothing to do with the Sun” Isn't it so sweet when they really start to give in and just let feelings be. This sentence says so much about our character's development.

“She demolishes the entire cold, empty structure” Here we see another character's development. Letting his guard down and letting her in. Choosing to believe the truth and see the real her.

This book is Steamy.

A tangle of lies and secrets could spell the end for our couple, but that's not all, a double shock twist awaits. What you thought you knew is just the beginning of the aftermath. I'm in shock. A really shocking event happens and I don't know how I feel about it. Happy yet Sad and slightly angry. The emotions the characters feel are real and  raw. Credit to Gwynne's writing, for making us feel what the characters would feel.

Don't let rage or a need for revenge take over your feelings as it may just cost you everything.

Paul Greer engineers the takeover of the Hartley enterprises. Kate Hartley proposes a marriage of convenience which on the surface seems to help Paul with the takeover. She has an ulterior motive to gain access to her trust fund which will help her establish her line of sustainable clothing.
They are living separate lives in the same penthouse when they start to develop a relationship.
Kate finds out Paul reallocated her company Revive to the Greer portfolio without her knowledge. This provokes her to tear up the marriage contract, move out of the penthouse and start to restart her sustainable clothing company.
Paul is furious when he finds out she only married him to gain her trust fund but finds out that his closest friend Mark has actually sabotaged his company.
He has to work hard to reverse all the issues caused by Mark's action which have also affected Kate's operations.
There is a stunning finale when Paul finds out the real reason for the failure of Greer companies under his father's control, which led to Paul's revengeful actions for years.
There ultimately is a HEA ending.
The plot is very complex with multiple subplots which enhance this story.
The chemistry between Paul and Kate is off the charts.
This is a binge worthy read.

Paul and Kate's Story

This is the story of corporate intrigue, revenge, and lies, all with a love story woven in. It is moderately entertaining, although not highly recommended.
Paul Greer is a billionaire CEO who has just bought sufficient shares to control an enemy company when the book begins. He blames the former owner for his father's sudden death 13 years prior.
Kate Hartley is the CEO of the company being taken over and the daughter of the prior CEO.
Kate comes up with a convoluted idea that Paul should marry her to make the takeover seem like an alliance, facilitating a smoother takeover. She also gets access to her trust fund of $100 million if she marries, but she keeps that detail to herself. Unbelievably, Paul agrees.
They get married and fall in love, but Kate throws everything away over a temporary corporate transfer that she sees as a devastating blow.
Kate is very self-righteous and insecure. Paul is too trusting and bends over backward to please her.
This is not one of the author's better books.

One Year with the Billionaire Grump was an enjoyable, heartfelt read that pulled me in once I got past Paul’s walls. At first, his negativity and arrogance made him hard to love, but as the story unfolded, I appreciated the way his hard edges softened and his true emotions began to surface.
The premise—a one-year marriage contract between Paul and Kate so she could access her million-dollar trust—was both fun and dramatic. Their relationship was full of tension, misunderstandings, and emotional ups and downs, especially as family secrets and past lies came to light.
What I loved most was Kate’s strength and independence. Even when things fell apart, she fought for her own dreams and built something meaningful through her nonprofit helping others find sustainable careers and confidence. By the end, both characters had grown—his arrogance faded, her anger melted, and love took root where mistrust once lived.
A touching, satisfying romance about redemption, forgiveness, and finding real partnership in unexpected places.

This book gave me Romeo & Juliet vibes without the tragic ending. The Hartley’s v The Greer’s. One sexy billionaire avenging his father v a beautiful, smart CEO defending her father. Throw in a marriage of convenience, will they fall in love? Will enemies become lovers?
I wasn’t sure about the marriage of convenience at first. I thought it sounded a bit unrealistic but I ended up getting sucked in and really enjoyed it. I liked how they had a PR manager who instructed them on how to sell the marriage so the public didn’t think it was fake.
I enjoyed the enemies to lovers trope and how that played out. The romance had some spicy scenes which were nicely written and not over the top.
There was a good twist at the end which I had an inkling may happen but I didn’t guess the reason behind it which was a surprise.
Definitely worth a read if you’re looking for a new quick romance to read.

I really enjoyed this book- rivals to lovers is a great trope, mix it with marriage of convenience and forced proximity and you’re on to a winner!

The character development was fabulous and the storytelling created a vivid picture for the plot. The spicy scenes were perfectly executed and sprinkled throughout the story adding to the suspense and feeling of the characters.

Paul and Kate don’t seem like they’ll get over their differences caused by and major misunderstanding of the past.

Corporate espionage and a greedy corrupt “best friend”/second in command certainly don’t help the pair to grow their relationship into something genuine.

I’d definitely recommend this book and I hope anyone reading this gives it a try!.

Grips you right from the very beginning. We meet both characters in the first scene and already you know it’s going to be interesting to see how they find their way to each other.

We meet Paul who has an axe to grind and the need to avenge his family. Kate not wanting to lose what she’s been working so hard for processes a marriage of convenience. Although Paul is sure he’s going to say no, yet he ends up saying yes anyways.

This book is spicy and keeps you reading wanting to know what happens next. They will keep you on your toes but it’s all worth it. You won’t regret reading this book.

I loved the fact that the female lead wasn’t a subordinate to the male lead.

Paul and Kate’s story was brilliant. Twisting and turning but satisfying in the end. Loved the characters and the setting. Also the justice coming in the direction of people who did wrong.

It is extremely well written and I wasn’t jarred out of the story by continuity errors and the author using the wrong word for something as I often the case with books these days.

I’ve read other books by this author and will definitely continue to do so. I highly recommend it.

Boundaries of Desire by Lark Monroe blends rivals-to-lovers, marriage of convenience, and forced proximity into an irresistible romance. Paul and Kate’s fiery chemistry jumps off the page, even as misunderstandings, corporate sabotage, and a corrupt “best friend” threaten to keep them apart. The character development is rich, the plot vivid, and the spice hits just right—enhancing the tension rather than overpowering it. This story is addictive, heartfelt, and hard to put down. If you love high-stakes romance with genuine emotional payoff, this one’s a must-read.

WOW what a top-class romance book Gwynne has written right here. Forget the housework, cooking or anything else you think you should be doing because this book takes precedence over all of those things. Plus, you are about to fall head over heels in love with Kate and Paul in this 10-star romance book. When a takeover happens to Kate's family's business, she has no choice but to broker a marriage to save the portion her father was trying to cultivate. Paul had only one goal and that was to drive Hartley Enterprises into the ground. What starts off as a business deal turns into so much more between Kate and Paul. Will their marriage surprise them and have them turning it into the real deal.

This is the kind of book you can’t stay away from. Arranged marriages with ulterior motives, deceitful behaviours, undermining manipulations, over the chart chemistry and spicy 🥵 intimacy, and a FOREVER is exactly Paul and Kate’s journey. An unexpected and forbidden love emerges from the well planed revenge plan and worth the wait. I highly recommended reading that will keep you glued, addicted and compelled into reading each and every word until its last.

Good read

Kate and Paul began a business deal that started with a contract marriage and lots of lies, deceit, and betrayal from sources neither was aware of.

Paul wanted revenge, and Kate wanted to build her business without interference from Paul. Neither was aware outside forces would try tear apart their marriage or almost destroy the companies they were trying to protect.

Interesting twists and turns.

Loved This Story

What an amazing love story! I started reading this book early this morning and by evening I was finished. What started as a business arrangement ended in a true love story. Anything more than that, you need to read the book yourself. Truly worth the money, time and effort to read!!!!

A marriage of convenience to accelerate integration and preserve value, says Paul.
To the public and investors, it would appear to be a merger rather than an acquisition.
There is an instant attraction between Paul and Kate and the wording used to describe their coming together is pure seduction.
Walls fall down, the more time spent together and the promise of forever is within reach.

Paul has taken over Kate’s family business for revenge so she suggests an alternative - a fake business only marriage for 1 year. Problem is that they are both attracted to each other and may have trouble keeping it strictly so. Great novel.

Spicy ! Enemies to lovers great romance.
Storyline flows smoothly and keeps you engaged from the first page where you meet main characters.
It’s pull and push arrangement and isn’t just that, betrayal and more questionable behaviour.
