Million-Dollar Baby Doc is a delightful romance between Will and Maddie, both medical professionals, both with issues and secrets they keep well hidden… for now.
I enjoyed Million-Dollar Baby Doc. It’s well-written, with believable characters facing difficult choices… such as whether they can trust each other to accept them exactly as they are. Will has worked hard to take his medical tech business into the millionaire level, and in some ways, he’s paid for that privilege since his former wife married him for his money and prestige. He learned that lesson well and has moved to another location where he keeps his past and his fortune a well-kept secret. Yet, that decision just might have unexpected consequences for him as he falls for a woman who values honesty… even though she hasn’t been quite forthcoming herself. Awkward.
Maddie grew up within the foster system, a fact that she holds close to her heart. There’s no need to advertise something that will only make people look down on her (in her mind). With some help, she’s managed to work her way through school to her current position. And no one is going to take that or her pride in herself away from her anytime soon. She never expected her relationship with Will to grow into a forever kind of love… now there are choices to be made, and consequences for both of them for hiding so much of their pasts from each other.
I had fun with Will and Maddie’s romance. Secrets will always come out eventually; what matters in a relationship is how one deals with that knowledge when it happens. This couple is about to find out if they still have issues or a happy ending. If this sounds like your kind of Medical Romance, then you’ll love Million-Dollar Baby Doc.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Million-Dollar Baby Doc, set at Royal York Hospital, is Colette Cooper's third book & her best yet. Of her MCs so far, two of the women & two of the men have had distressing childhoods. I guess that in modern relationships in western countries there are few barriers to couples being together, apart from race, religion or disability, so a difficult childhood provides a means for an author to slow down the MC's journey to happiness. And how many category romances do you see with inter-racial couples (now I come to think of it, three of the first six in the Royal York Hospital books were) or where religion is an issue? I've read a few where one partner has a disability or chronic medical condition.
Consultant paediatrician Maddie McArthur grew up in care & the occasional foster home. I found this unlikely. By the early 1990s, so few babies were being surrendered that there would probably have been a queue to adopt a white newborn. For much of her life Maddie has been judged for her background so she's learned to keep her history hidden & to not trust most people, especially men with money. We're told how, with the help of mentors, she was able to study medicine. Too often in romance, doctors emerge from poverty as if by magic.
Will Lawrence, also a consultant paediatrician, grew up in a large, loving family & extreme wealth. However he learned, after several year's marriage, that his wife was only after his money. He's moved from SE England to York, where nobody knows him, for a new start, wanting to be judged only for himself.
You can see where this is heading, but it's well-written, with fleshed out, thoughtful, sympathetic MCs & intriguing medical cases & secondary characters. The reader is kept on tenterhooks as to when & how Will's background will be revealed.

This book is about two paediatricians at Royal York Hospital whose very different pasts shape the way they approach love and trust. Maddie McArthur, raised in care and foster homes, has spent her life hiding her background and guarding her heart from wealthy, privileged men. Despite the odds, supportive mentors helped her pursue medicine and become a skilled consultant paediatrician.
Will Lawrence, by contrast, grew up surrounded by wealth and a large, affectionate family. However, a painful marriage to a woman who valued his fortune more than him left him wary of relationships. Seeking a fresh start where his wealth is unknown, Will relocates to York and focuses on his work.
When Maddie and Will meet, their chemistry is immediate but complicated by their opposing life experiences and emotional scars. Maddie struggles to trust someone from Will’s privileged world, while Will hopes to prove he wants to be valued for who he is rather than his money.
Set in a hospital environment, the novel blends medical drama with emotional depth, exploring class differences, personal insecurity, and the healing power of love. It offers a heartfelt romance about overcoming past wounds to build a future based on honesty and mutual respect.
