If you’re craving sunshine, friendship and a reminder that life doesn’t stop being messy, sexy or surprising once you hit sixty, Too Glam to Give a Damn is exactly the escape you need.

I read Still Got It last year and absolutely loved it, so I went into this follow-up with high hopes—and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint.

While this can absolutely be read and enjoyed as a standalone, there’s something deeply satisfying about returning to Claire Carver’s world of confident, complicated women who refuse to fade quietly into the background.

At the heart of the story is the friendship between Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte—three women with very different personalities, bonded by thirty years of shared history stretching all the way back to their school days.

Their dynamic felt so authentic and familiar, reminding me strongly of my own friendships with two of my best friends from school, still going strong all these years later.

The banter, the unspoken understanding, the occasional frictio, it all rang beautifully true.

And then there’s the setting. Being whisked away to different Greek islands during the bleak, grey, cold days of January in the north east of England was an absolute treat.

Carver’s descriptions are so vivid I could practically feel the ocean breeze in my hair and taste the gloriously delicious Greek food on my tongue. Pure escapism at its finest.

There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, some steamy scenes, and others that are genuinely heart-warming.

As expected, Sofia brings her fair share of drama, but what I really loved was watching each woman go on her own emotional journey during this three-week adventure.

It’s not just about the holiday—it’s about reflection, reinvention, and having the courage to face truths you’ve kept hidden, even from the people who know you best.

Warm, funny and life-affirming, Too Glam to Give a Damn celebrates friendship, freedom and the idea that it’s never too late for a new chapter. Pour yourself a glass of something chilled, curl up somewhere cosy, and let this book transport you straight to the Greek sunshine.

Well I always enjoy a trip to the Greek Islands, and so a book featuring three different islands, a group of three friends who are all needing this holiday for different reasons, and a whole lot of sun, sea and food, makes for a highly enjoyable time.

Of course between the sightseeing, our three friends Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte are all hiding various things that have been happening in their lives over the past year or so, and they sort of know they will reveal all at some point during the trip, but when is the question.

Thankfully the reader is let into the gist of the secrets at least, although not necessarily all the details initially. They are all going through big life changes and this is a holiday to try to make big decisions for all of them.

I especially loved Maddie, seeing her confidence grow as the story progresses. She is grieving her husband who passed away the previous year, and has been struggling with the unfairness of it all. As the holiday starts she is drinking a lot, and doesn't seem to to want to do much more than eat and drink. As the holiday progresses, well let's just say this is someone who blossoms between the pages. And her first aid abilities came in handy more frequently than you may expect, including one rather more dramatic sequence.

I definitely felt as though I was transported to Greece, and I was kind of aware that the third island was related to the author's previous book, with characters from it, but it didn't detract from this story, so I'd say it does work as a standalone book.

I enjoyed getting to know Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte, and really felt for them and the decisions all three ladies need to make.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with these characters. This was the first book I've read from this author, and it hopefully won't be the last.

Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Witty, warm-hearted and so much fun, Too Glam to Give a Damn is the uplifting new novel by Clare Carver.

Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte have been friends for five decades and the sixty-year olds want to mark this momentous occasion by heading over to Greece for the adventure of a lifetime. The three women are looking forward to three weeks of sun, sea and sand as they enjoy every single thing the Greek islands have to offer. Although the all appear to be carefree, Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte are all holding on to something they are prepared to go to great lengths to keep hidden. However, secrets do have a habit of coming out when you least expect them to…

When they had made plans to come to Greece, the three women always knew that this was going to be the holiday of a lifetime. Only, as things take a turn neither one of them was expecting, they quickly realise that they should have been careful what they wished for.

Will Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte still have a friendship by the end of the holiday? Can they weather the coming storms together? Or will this holiday end up tearing them apart forever?

Claire Carver’s Too Glam to Give a Damn will make readers laugh and cry with its deft blend of humour, heart and pathos. A fun escapist read full of characters readers will recognise and root for, Too Glam to Give a Damn is a relatable, hilarious and enjoyable tale about friendship, getting older, but not necessarily wiser, and finding happiness that charms, delights and entertains from start to finish.

The next best thing to a holiday in the Greek isles, Too Glam to Give a Damn by Claire Carver will brighten up every reader’s day!

Too Glam to Give a Damn by Claire Carver is a romance set against the beautiful backdrop of a Greek island.
This was an easy, enjoyable read centred around three friends who have gone on holiday together. They have known each other for years, so their conversations felt natural and I enjoyed the familiarity between them. There was a lovely sense that they knew each other's personalities, habits and flaws, even when they didn't always know what was really going on beneath the surface.
Each of the women has her own worries and imperfections, which made the characters feel more relatable. What I particularly liked was that Carver gave each of them something they were keeping to themselves. They might have been friends for years, but that didn't necessarily mean they knew everything about each other.
I enjoyed watching those hidden thoughts and secrets gradually come into the story and seeing how their individual situations affected the friendship. There was a good balance between the lighter holiday moments and the more personal side of the characters.
The Greek island setting was another highlight for me. Claire Carver's descriptions brought the surroundings to life, and I could easily picture the sunshine, scenery and atmosphere. It gave the story that lovely holiday feeling and made it an enjoyable place to spend time.
A light and easy romance with friendship at its heart, likeable but imperfect characters and a gorgeous Greek island setting. I enjoyed the combination of friendship, secrets and holiday escapism, making this a lovely choice if you're looking for a relaxed read with a touch of romance and plenty of sunshine.

The Blurb :

My Thoughts :
Here we meet maddie, sofia and Charlotte who have been friends for years. Now in their 60s they decide to go on a fun packed holiday Island hopping to Greece for 3 weeks and want have a good old catch up.
But each friend has a secret which they may or may not yet be ready to share.
As we go along for the ride, we get to learn more about each of them, whats going on and their backgrounds. I really engaged with all 3 of them and found them fun to be around.
Maddie may of been my favourite, dealing with the loss of her husband Tony, who died the year before and is trying to navigate her life without him. I loved the birds that kept appearing for her on the Islands.
The story is certainly full of delightful foods, scenery and descriptions of the Islands they visited.
Overall a great read from Claire Carver and will be looking out for more books to come.
I may even need to read books 1 and 2 from the series, which I believe are standlones so I havent missed out on not reading them in order.

Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte are on a Greek getaway to celebrate five decades of their friendship. As secrets are revealed this is one holiday that they will never forget.

Having read Still Got It I was really looking forward to the next book in the Greek Getaway series. As soon as I saw the front cover of it just made me smile. I wanted to pack a bag and escape to Greece with the characters. The storyline was about friendship, romance, secrets and honesty.

I loved Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte. There was just something about them that when they are together the page just lit up and I wanted to meet them in real life. They might be best friends but they are more like sisters.

The biggest theme in the story is one of secrets. Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte are close but they’re keeping secrets from each other. They communicate on a regular basis but it was as if each one didn't know how to tell the others what was going on in their life. Maddie has lost her husband but hasn’t told her friends that she has fallen out with her son. Charlotte has recently discovered that her husband has been cheating on her and Sofia has been made redundant from the law firm where she works. At times it did feel like each characters wanted to speak to divulge their secret but then they hesitated and stopped themselves. At the same time the characters all knew that the others were hiding something but didn’t know how to approach the subject. When they did all speak about what they were hiding it was like a weight had been lifted from their shoulders. There was no judgment but support and advice on how to move forward. Where these secrets could have torn their friendship apart it actually bought Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte closer together.

A story about friendship.

Set on a gorgeous Greek Is;and, Too Glam To Give A Damn will put you in holiday mode. Think cocktails by then pool and plenty of delicious Greek delicacies. The three central characters are all in their sixties and are celebrating their longstanding friendship with this holiday. On the surface, both Sifoa and Charlotte seem to have everything life could give them, while Maddie is still grieving the death of her husband, is stress eating and drinking and has not weathered as well as the others. Despite outward apppearances, neither Sofia nor Charlotte are quite as comfortable in their skin as they could be. Sofia, stiill petite and beautiful, flits from lover to lover and has not yet told her friends that she no longer has a job. Charlotte, tall, slim and also beautiful, is still reeling with shock at having walked in n her husband in the middle of cheating on her. I enjoyed watching how the women grew as the story unfolded and that setting never gets tiring for me, however I struggled to bond with any of them. I think it was just tht my life as a woman in her sixties is utterly different to theirs and I couldn’t find a point of commonality. That said, this is a light and entertaining story that will appeal to readers who enjoy indulging in laid-back Mediterranean stories.

Sofia Barnes, Maddie Stevens and Charlotte Trent have been friends since they first met in school. Now, they have decided to get together for a 3-week vacation to Greece to celebrate 50 years of knowing one another. Each woman is hiding a secret that has made a big change in their lives but they want to keep mum about it so they don’t spoil the others’ vacation.

Each week, they travel to a different island and there they make friends with the locals, while doing their best to speak as much Greek as they can. They enjoy the delicious good and wine from each island which has its own specialties. In addition, they meet people who have a big impact on their lives.

The 3 women know each other so well that they can complete one another’s sentences. We see how they banter back and forth and their individual personalities are very well-written.

I enjoyed this book so much. I have visited Greece and so I was fascinated with the descriptions of the area and the delicious food. I hope others will read this book and enjoy this wonderful escape to a beautiful place on earth.

I absolutely adored this book. It was a fun, lighthearted book about love, friendships that span decades, and the unseen paths that life leads you down.

When lifelong friends Sofia, Maddie, and Charlotte take a 3 week trip to Greece, all three are harboring life altering secrets about events that have taken places in their lives in recent months. This was a story not only about lasting friendships, but about realizing that we don't do life on our own, and sometimes we need our friends to lean on - despite how badly we think we can handle it alone.

The pacing was great - not full of action, but the story kept a decent clip. There was also great character development despite the entire book reading from third person POV and having 3 MCs.

Perfect for anyone who needs a wholesome book that explores themes of friendship, but also light enough to be a great vacation read.

Claire Carver clearly knows and loves Greece, and wants to share that with the reader. Unfortunately, that leads to extensive descriptions of places and meals that don't really have a lot to do with the plot. The plot involves three friends, who have been friends since they were at school, each of whom is nursing a secret. And I think I'm getting cynical, because I couldn't bring myself to care about their problems. I just wanted them to get over it, or get therapy.
I also prefer it when things are discovered organically, and this book spends a lot of time in the character's heads with their thoughts, which feels a bit like info dumping. While this book didn't work for me, I think someone who loves travel in fiction, and/or women's stories might really like it.

I really enjoyed Too Glam to Give a Damn. It’s an uplifting, feel good read about three lifelong friends reconnecting on a holiday in the beautiful Greek islands. All three friends have secrets they’re carrying and some really interesting character arcs develop throughout the book. I really empathised with the situations the characters found themselves in, they were relatable and felt authentic.
The novel is really about friendship and how it endures, it was both funny and sad and full of great dialogue, as well as packed full of wonderful details of Greek life and cuisine. Be warned though, don’t read this book on an empty stomach!

This is a standalone book but features characters from the author’s previous book, Still Got it. It was lovely to meet Sofia and Grace again.

A fabulously warm escapist read - highly recommended!

Although this is a sequel to ‘Still Got It’ I read as a standalone and it was more than fine doing so

We meet Charlotte, Sofia and Maddie, if you have had a lifelong friendship and all the highs, lows and in-betweens that come with it BUT you know and accept that whatever that bond, that special bond that doesn’t entertain fickleness is there then you will relate and love these 3’s relationship (s)

So these 3 embark on 3 weeks of 3 Greek island hopping and sedate and relaxing it is not, they have romance and fun, laughter and secrets ( which we discover through the book )

Loved the Greek Island settings, the honesty and the very funny humour and most of all the friendship that outshines and outlasts everything and anything

A feel good at times LOL read that enjoyed

This book travelled to sunny Lyme Regis with me over the weekend and was the perfect relaxing read for me. Loved spending time with Maddie, Charlotte and Sofia as they spent some much needed time together Greek island hopping. All three islands sounded wonderful and the third island allows the reader to meet Grace again from Claire’s previous novel, Still Got It.

Too Glam to Give a Damn is a celebration of female friendship and how it evolves over the years as the friends experience different life challenges. Although the book features some emotional topics, I did find this story uplifting and full of humorous moments. Happy to recommend and it certainly made me remember how much I’ve enjoyed my own visits to Greece. Will you be adding this book to your holiday reading list?

oo Glam To Give A Damn is a gorgeous, feel-good escape set against the sparkling backdrop of the Greek islands. With shades of Mamma Mia it follows three lifelong friends Sofia Maddie, and Charlotte as they celebrate fifty years of friendship with a sun soaked island-hopping adventure. While the beaches and sunsets are dreamy, the heart of the story lies in the women’s friendship and the secrets each of them carries. Their bond felt real and relatable, and it made me think a lot about my own lifelong girlfriends and how precious those relationships are. Warm, uplifting, and full of humour, this is a life-affirming read about friendship, second chances, and embracing every stage of life.

Three friends, three weeks, and plenty of secrets!

I just finished Too Glam to Give a Damn by Claire Carver and it was the ultimate light read for a sunny afternoon. This was my first time reading Claire Carver and I loved how she captured the beauty of a Greek holiday. I could practically feel the Mediterranean sun and the sea breeze!

The story follows Sofia, Maddie, and Charlotte, three mature characters in their 60s who are celebrating fifty years of friendship with an island-hopping adventure. I loved the focus on women in their prime who are stylish, adventurous, and "too glam to give a damn," even while navigating some pretty heavy personal secrets.

Why it’s your next favorite read:

The Setting: It is perfect for a beach read. If you can’t get to Greece this summer, this book is the next best thing!

The Bond: The friendship feels so lived-in and real. They know each other’s coffee orders but are still learning how to share their deepest truths.

The Vibe: It’s escapist and fun, but with enough heart and "what happens next?" tension.

Even though this is part of the Greek Getaways Collection, it’s a standalone, so you can dive right in. If you loved The Old Girls' Island Getaway, you will definitely enjoy this one as well!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Pub Date: March 12, 2026

Vibe: Sun-drenched and Sophisticated

This was my first read by this author and is actually the second book in The Greek Getaways Collection - I did worry a little to begin with, but these books are completely standalone and this proved to be a great read.

We follow three long term friends, Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte.

After 50 years of friendship, you'd think they would know everything about each other - but each has a secret that they've been keeping to themselves.

At 60, there's nothing old about these three and they're heading off to the Greek Islands for a holiday of fun and memories.

I cannot even imagine having a friendship that lasted as long as this group have had and I instantly envied the trio.

Their easy banter and complete loyalty to each other was wonderful to watch and I warmed to them all equally.

Their travels around the islands felt like I'd been whisked away along with them all with such gorgeous descriptions of the landscape, sun, sea, smells and tastes along the way.

I honestly don't think I stopped smiling the whole way through the book - well maybe just the odd slip at times.

The writing style was so easy to fall into and become completely immersed.

I found myself almost halfway through the book in one sitting.

I'm not one for travelling really, but this book definitely made me crave a little sun and sand - a lovely read and an author I'm bound to revisit soon.

Loved this second instalment of the Greek getaway series
A great cast of characters which i couldn’t decide who was my favourite and loved that they met up with some
Old friends from the first book . Claire’s descriptions of Greek Island life and the food and architecture are so real I felt like I was there . from the first page I could smell the suntan lotion and feel the Greek sun on my face . Armchair travelling at its very best I want to go and book a Greek adventure pronto! Can’t wait to read the next book
A fantastic holiday read

This is a fun book and I raced through it. Claire Carver has a great sense of humour and I really enjoyed learning about these three friends as they travel around the Greek islands and catch up on each others lives. She has a light touch but there are serious themes too - the connections we cherish, the need to challenge oneself and be honest, the joy to be had wherever you are, and whatever life throws at you. So yes it’s a great holiday read if you love Greece (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?) but also hugely enjoyable if like me you escaped into its pages at home.

Another quick escape to the Greek isles with this set of lifelong friends. Each lady has an issue from their current life situation that they need to reconcile, which is slowly revealed during the trip. I thought this story was okay. My favorite part was the setting in the Greek isles and learning about the cat sanctuary on some of the islands where you can stay for free if you take care of the cats. A free place to stay for 5 hrs of work and then an afternoon free to explore a Greek island does not sound like a bad deal to me!

A really cute story following three friends. Sofia, Charlotte and Maddie as they embark on a three week adventure around the Greek islands. They’ve all get their own secrets and as the trip progresses, they slowly open up to each other. It’s a wonderful tale of honest and enduring friendship, potential new beginnings and growing old somewhat (dis)gracefully and I loved it. I have to confess that it was a bit hard for me to get into this book. I found it boring at first and felt like there wasn't much going on. I think those first few stages impacted the rest of my reading experience. I just don't think this was the right book for me...

However, it has some really nice and meaningful passages. You can clearly see how the three girls love and care for each other like family. It was also wonderful reading about Greece and its culture. Rating: 3/5 stars.

This book was a hoot! 3 middle-aged English women are all at a crossroads in their lives and get away for 3 fabulous weeks on the Greek islands. Sofia is single and dates much younger her men but has she found her match with Adonis? Maddie is a widow and struggling with that and her family. Charlotte’s husband has been in a 2-year affair and she has to decide what to do about it. Lots of fun, travel, romance and adventures in this book!
