I only keep a small list of my very favorite books and series in my bookshelf here. I read A LOT and it's hard to keep the list updated!
I wanted to read this book because I was intrigued by Alex and Judd in Hashtag Holidate by this author. The premise sounded interesting and promising, but in the end this was just an ok read for me.
I feel there are too many backstories here. Judd is a stickler for the rules and safety, Alex burns things from time to time, and that could have been a reason enough for their animosity. The Amsterdam story felt random and wasn’t necessary at all. Even the way it was cleared felt random.
Talking about random, what was the point of Kaidee’s character? She is a friend of a friend who needs a place to stay for two weeks and she stays at Judd’s place. She’s alone, he’s alone, so she thinks it’s a given that they will hook up. When she gets that he is not interested, she does a 180 and decides to be his best friend who he can confide in. In two weeks? Alex got a bit jealous when he thought they were together, but that was cleared quickly, so her character is totally pointless in this story.
I haven’t read all Marian books, but I feel Aunt Tilly outdid herself in this one. I don’t mean it as a praise. Tavo’s sidestory also annoyed me. Not Tavo as a character, he is sweet. But his backstory and what happens in this one as a result. That’s not how things work, totally unbelievable.
Alex and Judd share a few sweet moments, but overall their dynamic and relationship development didn’t work for me, and it didn’t always make sense. Judd’s inspections started to annoy me after a while and I didn’t particularly like their initial arrangement. When it started to feel good between them, it was ruined by the reveal of their mutual past. I honestly couldn’t wait for that moment, that’s what kept me invested in the story the most, but when it finally happened, it was such a letdown for me. And we were back to "hooking up". There was a major fire towards the end that was expected, because Alex needed something to slap him and bring him and Judd together again. Alex’s reciting Shakespeare when drunk should have been really funny, but this whole story was so underwhelming that even that missed the mark for me.
I really liked seeing Adrian, though. It was cool that the author kept the same scenes here and in Hashtag Holidate, when the timelines overlap.

Burning for Alexander is book two in the Made Marian Legacy series by Lucy Lennox. This is Alex and Judd’s story and it was wonderful. This is a grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers, and a second chance romance. I think I experienced just about every emotion with this. I laughed out loud, I swooned, and my heart broke a little bit.
Judd Kincaid is forty years old and is the Chief of the Legacy Fire Department in Legacy, Montana. Judd came from a big city, wanting something quieter. He’s fallen in love with this little town. Unfortunately, one particular bar/restaurant owner doesn’t quite feel quite the same way about him.
Alex Marian, aka Firebug, is twenty seven years old. He is the proud owner of Timber, a bar/specialty pizza restaurant. Alex wasn’t at fault when his flaming drink caught on fire but he can’t admit who’s error it was so his lips are sealed. With the way the fire chief was acting, you’d think the entire bar was on fire. And now he’s insisting on repeated inspections!
Both Alex and Judd are still hurting from something in their pasts. It’s obvious there are sparks between them but Alex is determined to avoid the sexy chief. The powerful chemistry between them is just too much, though. Maybe Judd can be the person to finally teach Alex all the sexy things he’s never done before, no feelings, no relationships, just some steamy fun. But as those layers are slowly shed between them, and Alex is able to see beyond Judd’s gruff exterior.
These two really were adorable together. I adored them both. I loved the way each chapter started. Of course, the meddling Marian family was hilarious. This was such a wonderful addition to this series. Book three will be Jett’s book in Owning Jett. I’m so excited.
Totally not what I was anticipating for Alex's story after the set up for it in Rescuing Dr Marian, but I absolutely loved it!
Alex and Judd together are entertaining but I also loved getting to see their history play out throughout the opening of each chapter in the book. I'm not usually a fan of timeline play and it did take me a few chapters to click on to what was happening, but I actually really enjoyed the format.
There was also the classic Marian aspect with Tavo, although it did feel like Tavo's story was competing with Alex and Judd's at times. I would have liked more scenes of Alex and Judd that weren't just antagonistic or sex related because they seemingly have this rich history, yet they don't really do much together because either their jobs get in the way or Tavo gets the page time? I feel like Tavo and Drew should maybe have had their own novella...
Loved seeing older Blue being just as meddlesome as his parents and grandparents, and Tristan trying but failing to keep him in line!
I am beyond excited for Jett's book though. The set up for it had me doing a little squeal and now I'm theorising and I'm hoping it'll live up to my expectations. So far I'm most intrigued by Jett out of the next gen but Lennon is like the dark horse and I have a feeling his story will be an interesting one too.
There are too many Marians in this book. I repeat: TOO MANY MARIANS.
Look. I’m not new to Lucy Lennox, and I know (and have loved) most of her books. I’ve read my share of books with one or more Marians in it over the years, and saw them cross referenced from other series, too. And I’m ready to suspend my disbelief on how Aunt Tilly, who was ancient in the original Made Marian series, hasn’t aged a bit and is still as spry and meddlesome as she was 20 years ago.
But even I had difficulties navigating the 50 ish multi generational Marian family members without a map that covers a wall (you know the ones they use in murder mysteries, with arrows and notes and the like?).
On top of that, we have… idk… at least 4 love stories happening at the same time (Tommy & Foster from book 1, Alex and Judd in this book, Tavo and Drew and Maddox and Adrian from “Hashtag Holidate”, in addition to Jett and the mysterious man from the party being set up for the next book in this series).
So yes. It’s a bit much 😅
Back to this one: we have Alex Marian, Blue and Tristan’s son, who owns “Timber”, a restaurant in Legacy. And Judd Kincaid, the fire chief in Legacy, who holds a grudge against Alex because of reasons. And who both mourn the “loss” of their respective anonymous online-crushes a few years earlier, not knowing that -ofc - they’ve already “met again” in real life.
You know how these things tend to go 🤷♀️ and I love the anonymous texting trope.
But I’ll be honest, it’s not my favourite Lucy Lennox book. I thought Alex was immature most of the times. Like… needing months of therapy because he was ghosted by his crush? Immediately thinking the worst of Judd when the truth inevitably comes out? Going back to sleep with him (no sex!) because he can’t sleep without him, only to bitch around the very next day?
Judd deserved better.
Speaking of Judd: why were the chapters for Alex’ pov named “Alex”, and Judd’s “Kincaid”?
Anyway. It’s cute, well narrated audiobook, but as mentioned, not my fav.
It’s meeeeee! Your Christmas Grinch! I’m back! What’s that? This book was written in 2025? Must mean an age gap! At least the younger one is over 25 this time I guess.
I can’t quite put my finger on why this didn’t overly work for me (besides the age gap). I despised how Alex responded to learning about the online chats. Which we don’t get to see much of any way, so the exceptionally emotional responses from Alex and Judd feel unreasonable. I found the pacing really strange. Like I had whiplash multiple times. This kept pulling me out of the story. It was exhausting.
I did like the sweeter moments that happened in two different time periods in the book, and I especially love a nice little emotional meltdown, which we almost got from Judd but it was wasted in the end. There is a lot to enjoy here but it didn’t come together nicely for me.
I am also fucking done with the Aunt Tilly character. It’s not funny. It’s no longer tolerable even. I’m done.
I am absolutely loving the Marian Legacy stories and, while there's only been two so far, this one's now my favourite.
When it comes to a grumpy one versus another slightly less grumpy one with a reasonable age gap, this is a classic, and I loved how many different ways Lucy had for Fire Chief Judd Kincade to annoy Alexander Marian - and vice versa!
There's also a lovely secondary plotline which the reader is aware of about how they've previously met anonymously online and fell in love through a chat forum before something went wrong, leaving both men reeling from hurt and loss.
They, of course, don't know the others' identity and part of the narrative involves seeing their old messages as chapter intros while the two men argue and fight in the present time.
The previous story of them falling in love unfolds through this plotline while they also end up getting more and more involved in the present.
What starts off as an experimental exercise in educating the inexperienced Alex turns into something deeper, even while both men are still butting heads over fire safety and Alex' general ability to cause chaos.
Of course, the path to true love never runs smoothly, and there's various other things going on in Legacy that only adds to the mayhem and general fratching that occurs whenever these two meet - if they're not horizontal that is!
No spoilers, but this book is an exercise in patience as the reader knows the proverbial is going to hit the fan and the online identities, and the fallout from the hurt, has to come out eventually.
I'm beyond intrigued for who's up next too and, so far, this second generation Marian series has been a triumph.
#ARC kindly received from the author via GiveMeBooks PR, I am voluntarily leaving a review
5 stars I did not expect for this story to be so emotional: from the glimpses of Alex and Judd's banter in Rescuing Dr. Marian and Hashtag Holidate, I thought it would have been more funny and easy. Instead I cried! And I loved every second of it!
Alexander Marian is Blue and Tristan's son (from Made Marian series), he left California and the vineyard he was supposed to manage 4 years before and he opened his own restaurant in Legacy, Montana. He did everything by himself and he's determined to work for his dream without any help from his loving family. Alex is also terribly lonely, he had his heart crushed and he's still not over his first love.
Judd Kincaid is LFD Chief. He worked overseas in a war zone, then he came back to the US and, after a few jobs, he applied for the position of Chief in Legacy. He's 40 and he's single, he only had hookups over the years since he lost the chance to be with the love of his life.
Alex and Judd are insanely attracted to each other but they don't seem to be able to avoid conflicts. Alex is always involved in some kinds of accidents that requires Judd's intervention, adding layers of frustration and annoyance over their relationship.
I really loved how their connection evolved and how guarded they were, since they were both still hung up on their exes. That part of the story was totally unexpected, they wanted to move forward but at the same time it was very hard to let go of someone who meant the world to them. Alex never stopped grieving the death of his lover, while Judd felt hopeless about the inability to find his ex.
While they try to sort out their feelings, they also start a physical relationship that on paper should help with Alex's inexperience but that, in reality, ties them even closer. Soon strong feelings are added to the mix and when the truth dawns on them, they're hit very hard and the break up is inevitable, I cried so much at that point! I believe the author did an outstanding job in describing Alex's hurt: it was like the world collapsed over him and he just couldn't breathe anymore. And Judd, he felt so guilty and devastated, I couldn't blame him for not being honest with Alex sooner, he really didn't know how to navigate the reality of what really happened.
Their reconnection is slow and difficult, but I think it was good that they took their time to make peace with what happened in the past. I adored that Alex needed Judd's comfort even if he still wasn't ready to move on: the scene where he goes to Judd because he couldn't sleep without being in his arms was one of my favourites.
I didn't like very much all the meddling done by Ella, I saw her interference more about considering his brother a child than needing to protect him. And what the cook did at the restaurant with the extinguisher was not okay at all, I don't know why Alex didn't fire her.
I haven't read Blue and Tristan's story yet, but I liked getting to know them a little in this book, they seem wonderful guys. Next book will be about Jett, the fuckboy of the family, and someone from his past. I'm so very curious about them.
I'm grateful to the author for giving me this book, I adored it and I highly recommend it!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
I really like Lucy Lennox and generally preorder her books and audiobooks. This one was below her usual standard. It still works-it’s a pretty fluffy book with engaging characters. But the anonymous internet romance trope and coincidental meetings were too much for me. The chemistry was not there for me with these two and a lot of their interactions did not make sense to me.
Oh these men! There were so many times during this book where I wanted to shake both of them. Alex and Kincaid are honestly a mess in a way that is frustrating and endearing at the same time. I felt like I had whiplash from all the times they changed directions. I liked them alot, but by the end I was ready for them to get their heads screwed on right.
As always, I loved the cameos from the OG Marians.
I can't review this book without commenting on Aunt Tilly. I know she's supposed to be a quirky mischievous old lady, but she consistently goes too far and in this book she really crossed the line. Aunt Tilly steals a family member's phone, creates a catfish account, and sends an unsolicited d;ck pic to Alex while posing as Kincaid. I find this gross on so many levels and I'd be happy if Aunt Tilly disappeared from all future books.
This was cutesy and frustrating at times. I was dying for the big reveal to happen and the author made us wait so long the tease!! One thing is for sure. Whenever Alex and the Fire Chief are in a room together the UST is off the charts. And then when things get physical we have an experienced older man guiding our young, virginous Alex. Who knew all that sweetness was hiding under all that snark!?
Yes our sometimes grumpy Alex is hiding a lot of passion underneath his facade, a passion, the chief certainly has a fun time coaxing out. But first we have to get past the rediculousness of Judd constantly harassing Alex about some fire code or another when it comes to the bar. I'm not kidding. I swear the man drops by every other day to check on things. If I was Alex I would be supremely annoyed too, that is until things move from heated arguments to heated in the bedroom.
These two had no issues in the physical sense, but it took a bit longer for them to figure out their issues outside of it. It took them both being honest with one another and I just loved when they both realized this was way more than just a random fling. Speaking of flings, there is one from Alex's cousin Jett's past who I'm pretty positive has come back to haunt him and I cannot WAIT to find out more when Owning Jett comes out!
Alex Marian owns a bar Timber, and Judd Kincaid, Fire Chief , is out to inspect him to comply. We get the old gang of Marians, including Tilly. Judd and Alex had a text convo years ago, but lost each other, not knowing their real names. Now we see them getting close and virgin Alex makes a deal, for slow sex lessons. This will keep you guessing the outcome as the antics begin. Enjoy this Lucy Lennox story, a spin off from the awesome “Made Marian” series.
Burning for Alexander is the second book in Lucy Lennox’s Made Marian Legacy series and it delivers nicely on all the enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine vibes that we’ve had teased in earlier books. This story timeline overlaps with book one in the series, Rescuing Dr. Marian, beginning before Tommy and Foster come to town and continuing on after they get together. It also overlaps in time with Hashtag Holidate, which while not officially part of the series, also takes place in Legacy and includes appearances by series characters. Alex and Judd appeared in the background of both books and we see them fighting and frustrating one another, but also that they are clearly hot for each other, and Lennox does a nice job bringing their story together here.
I do enjoy the strong family vibe of these stories, even as someone who didn’t read the original Made Marian series featuring the older generation of men. I like the way the local siblings and cousins are all so close and seeing them interact with one another. It just gives a really lovely warmth to the stories that I am appreciating.
I didn’t enjoy this book near as much as the first one in the series, and I think it was because so much of the interactions between the two leads were adversarial. There simply was not enough sweetness and tenderness for my liking. I was really looking forward to the emotional reveal when they learned that they had this hidden history from each other, but the last 1/3 of the book was really a letdown. Even the bonus story was weird and unsatisfying.
Disappointing, especially since I paid for this instead of waiting to see if it would be on KU someday. I liked some of Lucy Lennox’s prior books with May Archer, but this was not nearly as enjoyable as the Champion Security or Licking Thicket books. I thought the feud between a grumpy fire chief and a younger fire accident prone restaurant owner would be enough to drive a fun story, but instead there was a ridiculous backstory (multiple ones) to cause manufactured drama between the MCs and once you subtract those - not much left. Neither MC was very appealing, the 13-year age gap would have been OK if Alex was a mature 27-year old, which he was not, and that they both could be so torn up years later over an online relationship that never moved off screen seemed silly. Also, super sappy in parts and tried too hard incorporate past book characters who were completely tangential here.

Burning For Alexander Made Marian Legacy Series Book 2 Lucy Lennox
Alex & Judd ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Firefighter Hero V1rg!n Hero Enemies to lovers Age Gap Grumpy / Sunshine Small Town Longing and Pining
Oh, my this was emotional
This was so lovely.
It's so nice seeing the next generation of Marians.
The longing and pining from both men was next level. This story began for these men long before they realized it.
Alex is an independent man. Wanting to prove himself without his family's name and money. A v1rg!n, as well as pining for a man he met online years ago, he is just longing to have someone of his own to come home to.
Judd, a rigid Fire Chief, longing as well for a man he met online. Judd clashes with Alex every time they run into each other.
The run-ins are funny and frustrating. Their sexual tension off the charts. Both men are very attracted to each other.
These two did not realize where their natural connection came from. It was lovely to watch their feelings slowly unfold for each other.
This was sweet and so emotional. They hold each other back from each other. Alex is such a mature person for his age, I found.
I'm glad these men found their hea
I loved being back in the Marianverse again.
I loved getting glimpses and cameos of previous characters.
Judd Kincaid is the new Chief of the Legacy Fire Department. For some reason, his arrows are pointed at Alex Marian the owner of Timber — Artisanal Pizza & Curated Wines. The Chief always finds something wrong or missing with the safety environment at Timber. It’s driving Alex crazy. Why is Judd impossible but so stunningly attractive? Ugh!
Judd despises Alex (sadly for the wrong reasons). I loved how this part develops. They are opposite, Judd is grumpy, and Alex is the younger sunshine. But they do have something in common. Both are dealing with the fact of losing a lover.
Different things are happening. Without giving away too much information I’ll keep it at that while there’s hostility between them, there’s even more, the strong attraction, and they are more connected than they are aware of.
It’s a super duper good read. I love every aspect of this story, the side plots, the friends, colleagues, and of course the meddling family. There are some hot encounters, and the hurtful moments were palpable. The development of this story was well done.
Overall a wonderful story! I can’t wait for the next one in this series! . . . . . . . . I received an arc
Holy Crap! This was a really good book, I pulled an all nighter reading this I couldn’t put it down! I had my ups and down of liking and disliking Judd, I eventually loved him. Alex, I loved but further in the book I was angry with him and disliked him for a bit then loved him again lol. This book was an emotional rollercoaster ride of emotions, gah… I loved book and it was great to read more on all the Marian’s. Looking forward to the next book!
This is the 2nd book in the Made Marian Legacy series, featuring Alexander Marian who owns the restaurant/bar Timber, and Judd Kincaid, recently hired Fire Chief for the Legacy FD.
There's some mistaken identity background there which initially leads the fire chief to dislike Alex immensely, even though he's also wildly attracted to the younger man. Snark and sarcasm ensue in their little feud.
Unbeknownst to either of them, they have a connection - a few years ago, they carried on an online relationship (this is not a spoiler, people, this is very obvious from the get-go) while Judd was fighting fires overseas for the US military, and Alex was still expected to take over his parents' vineyard.
Attractions burns brightly, and at some point, they give in to the UST and, well, you'll see.
On occasion, Alex read a little younger than the 27 he's supposed to be, and I also thought it a little odd that he was still virginal at that age, but I just went with it. At 40, Judd is obviously older, and obviously not virginal. Their bedroom antics were nicely written, fumbling and early detonating virgin included.
Overall, quite enjoyable, even if the drama at the end made Alex seem younger than he is, again.
Wowza! I started this book less than 24 hours ago and jus finished and it’s been awhile since I was that obsessed with finishing a story. (Sidebar- for all you Heated Rivalry obsessed- I feel like this will tick some of your boxes!) I finished Hashtag Holidate earlier in the week and these two were teased heavily and oh my goodness. This one just skyrocketed into one of my top reads for the year. I freaking loved it! Enemies to lovers, banter galore, and a couple of other tropes pop up that I don’t want to spoil… because it was so fun when they presented themselves. It was all a freaking delight. I loved it.
Emotional and heartwarming, enemies to lovers romance!
"You’re my person, Alex. The most important person in the world to me, and nothing is going to change that.”
I didn't know it was possible to love the Marians more than I did, but this book proved me wrong! This new generation of Marians are just as supportive, loving and meddlesome as their parents and I loved every second of this book. Alex and Judd are fiery and are at each other's throats from day one. But they're also soulmates and it doesn't take long for that bond and attraction to overpower everything else. From sneaky first kisses to dramatic love confessions, these two had me laughing and swooning the whole way through!
"Alex was the spark, and I was tinder doused in kerosene."
There's just something about anonymous, online love connections that always get me, and Alex and Judd were no different. The first time they fell in love was sweet and soft but ended in devastation. Alex is so precious and to see him so guarded and hurt just broke my heart. And the way Judd can't stop thinking about his lost love made me want to scream the truth so he could find joy again. The love they had was so strong that the only person who could make them truly move on was each other.
"The names we carried didn’t matter as much as the connection. And I’d never felt more connected to anyone before."
From past glimpses of Alex and Judd, I knew their story would be entertaining. Their constant clashes, bickering and jealousy had me laughing out loud. But I didn't expect it to be as emotionally intense as it was. These two are so gone for each other that they can't help but show their love even when they're pretending to hate each other. The moments where they're soft and vulnerable were so beautiful and I just wanted it to last forever.
“Let’s just say I never knew a love- hate relationship was a real thing until I met Alexander Marian.”
Judd and his Firebug made me so incredibly happy. They're sweet and playful and so protective of each other. The Marians just keep getting better and better and I'm so excited for Jett's story next. If you enjoy meddling families, an enemies to lovers pairing who set the pages on fire and a soulmate love connection that warms your heart, you need to check out Burning for Alexander!
“You have a wedding band on my heart, Firebug. Even if I don’t have one on my finger yet.”
I’ve been so excited for this since reading Hashtag Holidate and seeing the sparks fly between Judd & Alex! I love an enemies to lovers story and this one was excellent! You could feel the heat and attraction between them every time they interacted. I wasn’t expecting the twist with their past heartbreaks and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It added tension and angst throughout the story in the best way. It was emotional, heart warming, steamy and full of Marians!
🔥 Enemies to Lovers 🔥 Firefighter Hero 🔥 Age Gap 🔥 Grumpy x Sunshine 🔥 Virgin MC 🔥 Small Town
Only one of the many many reasons to read this wonderful grumpy sunshine romance. There are so many great tropes in this story but to tell them would spoil a surprisingly suspenseful read. I loved how the romance unfolded. Another five star read for me. Thank you Lucy Lennox.
5 stars Audio beautifully narrated by Michael Dean. 4 stars Book Review, A slow romance for Alexander and his Fire Chief Judd with a few bumps along the way.
I'm weirdly like this book lol I know! Alex and Judd are both annoying AF MCs. But I found it's kinda fun to read, except for the Tilly things. She should be out from every Marian story in the future.
Burning for Alexander by Lucy Lennox is another great story in the Made Marian Legacy series. It features the new fire chief, Judd, and restaurant owner, Alexander Marian. They have a fiery rivalry until fate intervenes. Romance - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Steam - 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Humor - 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Angst - 😭😭😭 Writing - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
