"Through his scientific work, Fuat Sezgin responded to Orientalists and instilled self-confidence in Muslim nations that believed that everything good belonged to the West. According to him, today's European civilization is a continuation of Islamic civilization, which emerged in a different geography under different historical conditions. Sezgin has been a representative of a more original and freer stance against the cultural and intellectual imperialism shaped by Orientalist literature. Sezgin summarized the fundamental goal of all his work as follows: "I belong to a world of science, culture, and civilization. We are not rootless or ownerless. We have been the cradle of a civilization with deep roots. However, for centuries, I have witnessed this civilization being ignored, its rights being violated, it being humiliated, everything it has achieved being taken away, and it being subjected to oppression. I have made it my goal to introduce the dazzling accumulation of Islamic civilization and its great contributions to world science to a world that is unaware of it. Part of this effort is solely to serve the scientific community, but another very important goal is to restore the self-respect, confidence, and place in human history that the entire Islamic world has lost, by reminding them of what they have lost."
