Stoopid but fun, with some nice artwork.

A cute and very kid-friendly collection of stories with Disney characters going through the origin stories of various Marvel characters (plus, curiously, a version of "Old Man Logan"). Note there's no continuity between the stories, they're all standalone. (B)

This graphic novel was an interesting read for me. While the animation feels slick and true to the style of Disney/Marvel graphic novels. I also feel that they watered down the villains/heroes in a lot of the stories. For instance, in What If Donald Duck was Iron Man?, while I like the concept of the story and how they took elements from the first movie and attempted to elevate the origin story, it fell flat because not only did Donald Duck not have the qualities of Tony Stark/Iron Man, but the villains were one-note (which granted all of the villains were one note and half were featured by the Beagle Brothers). There was so much potential this graphic novel had and for me, it fell flat.

However, there were positives. I love how the creators did integrate other characters from Mickey Mouse and Friends into the stories. For instance, a lot of the stories starred Donald Duck and Goofy. Often times, we see Mickey Mouse take the prominent role, so the fact that he wasn’t the main character in every story was a nice change of pace for me. Also love how they had female characters centered. While it would’ve been nice to see more Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck what if..stories, essentially due to the fact that Stan Lee created Marvel for a girl he liked at the time. It was nice to see them represented, especially Daisy Duck as Lady Sif, when Donald Duck was Thor. They were able to get a little more fleshed out, however the story themselves felt a little rushed and wish we got more grounding in the stories and more layers in the villains.

I was expecting more from this graphic novel, but honestly Goofy as Hulk and Spider-Man was something I did not think would work because Goofy is one of the more lovable characters in the Mickey Mouse and Friends club. I didn’t think it would work, but surprisingly it did and Spider-Goofy was a classic story. What If…Goofy was Spider-Man? Was the highlight story because we were able to bring it back to 2002’s Spider-man, though I did want to see more of the struggle Goofy goes through, similar to Peter Parker, but liked the vibe and art style of this story.

Overall, this graphic novel I would recommend to young readers just getting into Marvel. However for avid Marvel readers…not so much.

Ne avevo sentito parlare, ma non ero mai riuscita a leggere le storie Marvel/Disney. Poi finalmente ho trovato l'albo e l'ho cominciato.

Ho fatto un po' di fatica a leggere, devo dire. Io vengo più dal lato Disney e non conosco benissimo le storie dell'origine dei supereroi anche se credo di averle lette ai tempi di quando Repubblica ha pubblicato la sua prima serie dedicata ai fumetti. Si parla, comunque, di vent'anni fa. Da questo punto di vista, le interviste agli autori alla fine di ogni storia hanno aiutato moltissimo.

Adoro lo stile di Giada Perissinotto e la prima storia mi è piaciuta moltissimo, specialmente l'apparizione di Topolino/Occhio di Falco. Credo di aver apprezzato di più il Pippo/Spider-Man e il Paperino/Iron Man dal punto di vista della trama.

A totally obvious crossover that never occurred to me. There's no continuity between issues. Donald stars in most of the solo issues as Iron Man, Thor and Wolverine. Goofy is Spider-Man, Minnie is Ms. Marvel, and then there are team books of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. Most of the books are takes on the origin issues of each person or team, except for the Wolverine issue which is actually based on Old Man Logan. The writing and art were fine. I don't understand how anyone is going to have a secret identity when they call themselves Donald-Thor or Spider-Goofy.

The artwork all throughout this book was FANTASTIC!! That and spidergoofy is what gets this the 5 star rating. Some of the other stories were lacking some were good some missed the mark (I individually reviewed each one) but I loved this book overall!! I wish I could have some of this artwork in poster format!

I like both things enough for this to be a fun and goofy diversion. Donald Duck comics especially have always been peak. So most of these just using Donald as different characters in the lead is peak.

it's time to give up.

Fun in concept, but a REAL stretch in readability. I'd rather read a 1000 Disney comics over this mashup.

Yikes. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. As others have said; “too much Disney not enough marvel” and they couldn’t be more right.

An awful waste of time and such an obvious cash grab by Disney…

Better in concept than in execution. The idea of mixing Marvel and Mickey seems like it should work, and a couple of the stories are entertaining. But the overall feel was kind of underwhelming. Cute, but not memorable.

I love what if, I love fun stories and I have always loved the Disney characters. So this books is absolute pure fun for me. Some issues are better than others but the pleasure predominates. Kudos to the respectful creativity of the new origins and for the fun art.
