Hallie's life was ruined five years ago when her supposed best friend Gemma plotted against their parents getting together. Well now the tables have turned, and it's Hallie's turn to tell her side.
This satisfying e-short story will give readers of Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend history and insight on how Gemma's former best friend, Hallie dealt with the fallout.
Katie Finn grew up in Connecticut, in a town that looks an awful lot like Putnam. During high school, she was a total theater devotee (like Madison) and never dreamed she’d be a writer. But lots of Katie’s high school misadventures have made it into her books…which just goes to show that you never know!
She currently lives in Los Angeles, California, in a house she wishes was a lot closer to the beach.
This book was ok. I felt bad for Hallie but she also turned super obsessed with Gemma and so it's hard to be too sympathetic once she basically starts ruining her life for fun. I also can't sympathize with the fact that her brother's heartbreak is just collateral damage.
Was helpful backstory to help fill in Hallie's POV in all this revenge plotting. Now having the full understanding of both side's motives, I am excited to see where the next book goes after the crossroads ending.
I didn't even know this existed but now that I've already read book 2, I won't be going back to read this one. Since Hallie was so awful, I just don't care.
I mean... The writing was great, as always, but this just made me sad. Yes, Gemma made huge mistakes. But, Hallie's mother became a hugely successful author so everything worked out. Hallie just lost about five years of her life to revenge and I think that is very sad. She doesn't have any real friends, she hurt her brother, and the guy she might love was just a pawn that she developed feelings for. I am team Gemma and Josh but I don't think that can happen now with, again, makes me sad. Morgan: please write another Amy and Roger or Since You've Been Gone type book! I love those! This series has amazing writing and a complicated plot line but there is just revenge and bitterness, not happiness or forgiveness.
I feel really really sorry for Hallie. She doesn't have any close friends and she is lying to basically everyone in her life just to get revenge to Gemma. Atleast Gemma has Sophie, who is a really understanding bestfriend, while Hallie could really lose the trust of everyone in her life. All she has in her mind is to get revenge for Gemma "ruining" their life. But if she could just see beyond all those hatred, she would see that Gemma didn't really ruin her life. If Gemma didn't do what she did, they (Bridges) would not have that big house of theirs, those big amounts of money and their Mom wouldn't have been inspired to write that book. Which by the way I suspect is Once Bitten!
After reading "Broken Hearts, Fences, and other things to Mend," this book offers a the story from the perspective of Hallie. Hallie was betrayed several years ago by Gemma - forcing her mom out of a job, ruining her first kiss, etc. Hallie holds this grudge for many years, researching and developing a revenge plan. This book was great after reading several of Katie Finn's other books. Her writing style is simple but effective. Katie Finn is always one step ahead of her readers and toys with their expectations. There is also never down time in a lot of her books and in 60 pages, this book is very similar. Nothing was explicit or graphic.
OMG! I just can't get enough of her writing… This was very fun to read by Hallie's POV and how she managed to do all of that stuff. Honestly, I never liked Gemma but after reading this it might change my thinking. I don't know in whose team I should be but most probably Hallie and Teddy. They were very cute and I thought they weren't just looking out for make out scenes, but they were looking out for a moment so they can make them cute. I love them.. Can't wait to read the 2 book and I need to know what's gonna happen to Gemma/Hallie/Sophie/Josh/Teddy? All 5 of them?
It was nice to see Hallie's side of things. It made her seem less cold and heartless and showed the reasons behind the whole war between her and Gemma. Both girls obviously made mistakes, but it's good to see they were both motivated by true feelings and not just a desire for revenge and hurt.
Why did I read this when I ended up not enjoying "Hearts and Fingers.."? well... I was waiting for someone and I already had it in my kindle. (Story of my life).
Surprisingly, I enjoyed it more than the second or third book in the series, even when it was less than 100 pages.
Really great novella, it was really awesome to see things from Hallie's perspective, and see more behind the scenes stuff, and yeah, now to read the 2nd book!
