This book and I had a complicated relationship. By the halfway point I still had no clue where the story was going, which sounds like a complaint, but honestly, that’s also its biggest strength. It thrives on keeping you guessing, second guessing, and maybe triple guessing about what’s real, what’s imagined, and how the story is going to tie itself together.
So what’s it actually about? We follow Mary, who lives at a boarding school and has dealt with mysterious, unexplainable pain her whole life. Just when that’s already more than anyone should have to handle, kids in the village start disappearing and Mary begins having visions of them. Slowly she realizes her pain and the missing children might be linked, and it’s up to her to uncover the truth before she’s next. Alongside all that doom and gloom, there’s also a tender romance with Chrissy (which I found very endearing), a grandmother who’d do anything for her, and a father who’s… let’s say unsettling in the creepiest way possible.
Now back to my experience: I liked the short, snappy chapters (very bingeable) and the little nods to pop culture like Frankenstein and Stranger Things. That said, some chapters felt like they just stopped mid sentence, only to pick up in the next one, which was a bit jarring. And because I spent most of the time confused, I never fully connected with our girlie Mary. I wanted to feel for her pain and struggles, but instead I felt like an observer on the outside. This caused me to take waaaayyyyyy too long to get through this book for my liking. I just couldn’t really get into it.
But once the story started rolling, it REALLY started rolling. I liked how it balances scientific thriller vibes with a paranormal twist. The mystery keeps things intentionally vague for a long time, only peeling back layers as you go, and there’s definitely a haunting undertone that makes you root for Mary.
All in all, Love You Until Death is a spooky mystery thriller that leans into its confusion and atmosphere. If you’re looking for an eerie autumn read that makes you feel like you’re solving a puzzle with pieces that might (or might not) even exist, this could be your next pick!

Lara Reims is one of my favourite local authors and when I saw this book was being released, I knew I had to get my hands on it. I requested a digital arc and I'm really happy that Hamley Books granted me one!
This is an amazing YA and I'm pretty sure teens will love it even more than I did. That's firstly because the teens in this book feel like actual teens. Our heroine does some really reckless stuff, sometimes acts without thinking, makes mistakes and does the wrong thing to make up again. She's learning. She's growing. And the growth eventually shows when she does the only thing she can do at the very end of the book.
I also love the vibe of this book! It's exactly the right kind of scary. It has one-and-a-half feet firmly in our world. It feels like this could happen to everybody. This could happen in your hometown. This could happen to you. I also like how in this case the killing isn't even the worst part. I think this book does a great job coming up with something worse than dying. Something that changes you forever. Something that keeps you from being you.
The finale of this book was also thrilling. At some point I had an inkling of what was going on. I've read too many books not to recognize the puzzle pieces and fit them into a whole. It gave this book something bittersweet. There are not many books making me understand so well why the villain of the story does what they do. There are not that many books, especially not YA books, blurring the lines between good and evil, showing that good intentions can end really badly.
I can't wait for the next Lara Reims book!

It has been such a while since i have read Paranormal thrillers but this book reminded me again why i love reading it once in a while!
This book was written so smoothly and the style was very pleasant to read! I had absolutely not clue what was happening only that people disappeared! That i had no clue until i cracked it halfway wasn't a bad thing at all! It made me want to keep reading, kept making me guess what would happen next and surprised me in so many good ways!
We get to know everything at the same time as Mary and i absolutely liked that a lot! For this genre it works and you try to find out whats going on, Mary started to grow on me and i had suspicions with people where at the end i was so right! The relationship between Mary and Chrissy was so sweet, even through everything Mary kept trying and kept caring while Chrissy was so scared of the disappearances! Mary her grandmother was an absolute sweetheart and oh my god her father! Well you have to find out what i mean by that by reading the book😉
Conclusion of this whole book, i liked it a lot, finished it within 12 hours as it is only 201 pages long which sounds perfect to me! If you like a mysterious paranormal thriller with a not seen coming twist this is perfect for you!

Mary's pain only became worse and she starts to have visions. Does her pain has something to do with those kids disappearence? Mary decides to solve these mysterious kidnappings.
The story starts of calm but I was immediantly invested. I really love Mary's relationship with her grandmother and with Kate. I also really liked to see a lesbian protagonist and she was so cute with Chrissy.
The story is easy to read. The short chapter kept me going. I couldn’t put the book down and read it in 2 days. (I'm a slown reader so this really means a lot) I also loved the writing style. I'm even thinking of reading more books of Lara Reims. I don't really read much paranormal thrillers but I think this made me realise that I actually like them. This is also the perfect autumn/ winter book. If I was you I would find a place on my autumn tbr for this book.

Recensie - Love you Until Death
One innocent girl. A monster. A struggle for life.
Het boek is in het Engels geschreven, maar zoals jullie weten plaats ik altijd in het Nederlands. Dus ook deze recensie 🥰.
Ik vind het leuk om te lezen dat er een relatie is tussen twee meiden, dit maakt het boek meteen een stuk minder “standaard”. Ik kan me erg goed vinden in het hoofdpersonage Mary, ze heeft pijnen die geen arts begrijpt en dus ook geen oplossing voor weet. Dat herken ik natuurlijk erg met mijn chronische pijnen.
“Alert. Last Night, another child disappeared. A fourteen-Year-old boy never came home from his football practice. Anyone who heard or saw anything, please contact the local police.” < dit brengt natuurlijk wel wat spanning met zich mee, ik ben heel benieuwd wat dit verhaal gaat brengen.
Wat mooi dat Chrissy en Mary in hun breinen zo een bijzondere connectie hebben. Er verschijnt ook een meisje vanuit Mary haar klas en er begint nu echt heel veel spanning te komen. Het houd mijn aandacht vast, maar ik merk ook dat mijn hart in mijn keel zit (hoezo angsthaas?🤭).
OMG hoofdstuk 27 gaf echt een onwijs shock effect, zal dit echt waar zijn? Ik deel bewust natuurlijk nog niet wat hierin gebeurt zodat ik niks spoil, maar ik kan zeggen dit is zoooo spannend!!
Dit verhaal was zo spannend en tegelijkertijd zo verwarrend, je wilt weten wie het gedaan heeft, wat er gebeurt is en hoe dit kan? Het einde vond ik echt fantastisch!!
Ik kan echt zeggen dat ik dit boek aanraad, als jij houd van spanning, liefde en mysterie 🕵️.

This is a genre I don’t usually read, but Love You Until Death immediately drew me in with its creepy atmosphere and mysterious setup. A really interesting paranormal YA thriller with some unexpected twists that gave me some science fiction vibes??

Wow! What a crazy story!
So I’ll start by saying I did really enjoy this story. Well enjoy… it was rather scary! At first it was mostly very strange in a way that makes you curious. What does all this strangeness mean? It got scarier the further I was in the story. I really felt for the characters.
Honestly this was just a crazy story. It’s very different than the books I usually read. But wow! I am really impressed by this book. However crazy it was I did think it was a really good story and I enjoyed reading it.
I did however, had some thoughts about the way it was written.
I didn’t always understand what was meant in a certain sentence or paragraph. Or some sentences that felt unfinished. I did notice that this was mostly so at the beginning and I felt a big improvement the further I got into the story.
I did really enjoy the story and sometimes sat on the edge of my seat while reading. I was really invested in what was happening and what the explanation for all this strangeness would be.
This book also made me realise I would like to read more “strange” books in the future 🫣🤭
I was also pleasently surprised that this story had a sapphic element!❤️
Overall, I give Love You Until Death ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5 stars)

GUYS IM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE!
I absolutely loved the book!!
It was something I absolutely hadn’t expected… in a good way? I didn’t really know where to start because normally you first read the backside of a book but like I said, it was an arc so I couldn’t read the back of it lol. But I was so baffled with how quickly I read this book!
It was such an easy book to read and I hadn’t expected this to end like this! It was such plottwist after plottwist and not knowing what was at the finish line… it was amazing !!
Sometimes I felt it only quite hard to understand what was going on, like I knew what was happening but it only made sense at the last couple of chapters. So only then I understand the whole thing that was going on.
All by all, it was a very fast paced book that made me want to turn the pages quickly !

I'll be honest, at first it was a bit difficult to read. I had some trouble getting into the story and you could really tell it was a YA book.
But when I was 50 pages in, EVERYTHING changed!
I started to really understand the story and more and more mysteries were added that needed to be unravelled. It became so exciting/ interesting that I could hardly put the book down. I also completely lost the feeling that I was reading a YA thriller.
Did i guess the ending? Yes.
Was it a bit predictable? Maybe, yes.
Did it ruin my reading experience? No, not at all!

A beautiful story about a girl named Mary who just wants to feel alive, loved and whole. Always plagued by nightmares, screaming and pain, the past and present come back to haunt her and the future will hold lots of questions she wants answers to.
For me this book was definitely more about the road to the end than the end itself, it was predictable yes but that didn’t keep me from really enjoying the nicely written story that this book was.

dit is de eerste paranormale/thriller YA die ik lees en ik vond het heerlijk vermaak. de hoofdpersoon heeft veel vragen en er word telkens antwoord op gegeven dus geen plotholes.
goede snelheid en een kleine world building wat het overzichtelijk houd en je elk hoofdstuk wel wat beleefd.

Deze ARC heb ik gekregen van @hamleybooks. Ik mocht het als een van de eerste lezen.
Mary leeft op een kostschool en heeft al haar hele leven onverklaarbare pijnen. Niemand kan dat verklaren of oplossen. Wanneer er kinderen verdwijnen in het dorp worden haar pijnen erger. Ook begint ze visioenen te krijgen van de vermiste kinderen. Dan realiseert ze zich dat het misschien allemaal met elkaar te heeft en gaat ze zelf op onderzoek uit.
Het verhaal begint heel rustig. Je leert eerst de hoofdpersoon Mary goed kennen. Je leert over haar relatie met Chrissy en hoeveel zij voor elkaar betekenen. Ook de relatie met haar oma vind ik heel erg mooi om te lezen.
Het verhaal leest makkelijk weg. De schrijfstijl is erg fijn en makkelijk te volgen en het verhaal is goed opgebouwd. Ik had het boek zomaar uit. Ik wilde het maar blijven lezen, je blijft van begin tot eind geboeid. Dat komt omdat het verhaal eerst best wel vaag is en na mate je verder komt in het boek wordt er steeds meer duidelijk. Het verhaal ontpopt zich tot een goede thriller met paranormale aspecten erin. De hoofdpersoon Mary worstelt voornamelijk met haar gevoelens over zichzelf en je vraagt je af of alles wel goed komt.. Meer ga ik uiteraard niet zeggen.
Of alles goed afloopt moeten jullie absoluut zelf gaan lezen en dat kan vanaf 25 september. Bedankt @larareims voor dit mooie verassende boek.

Hierdoor blijft het een beetje mysterieus rondom de karakters en gaan je gedachte alle kanten uit. De relatie tussen Mary en Chrissy vond ik heel aandoenlijk. De manier waarop ze zo goed op elkaar zijn ingespeeld is heel aandoenlijk. De lieve grootmoeder die alles voor Mary over heeft. De mysterieuze vader die eigenlijk een beetje eng aanvoelt. Heerlijk!
Wat was dit een zenuwslopend verhaal! Heel lang blijft het verhaal een beetje vaag, in de goede thriller manier, en hoe verder je in het boek komt hoe meer er duidelijk wordt. Het verhaal is op een prettige, vlotte manier geschreven waardoor je aandacht goed erbij word gehouden. Ook heeft het wel iets weg van een wetenschappelijke thriller, maar het hele paranormale idee erachter vind ik heel origineel. Ergens heeft het ook een trieste noot die vooral gericht is op Mary. Hierdoor kreeg ik echt medelijden met haar en hoopte ik op een goed einde. Of dit boek een goed einde heeft ga ik niet verklappen, daar moeten jullie zelf achter komen op 25 september

The writing style is pleasant and smooth, which really keeps your attention. It also has something of a scientific thriller, but the whole paranormal aspect behind it feels very original. In a way, it also carries a sad undertone, especially revolving around Mary. This really made me feel sorry for her, and I kept hoping for a good ending. Whether or not this book has a good ending, I won’t spoil—you’ll have to find out for yourselves on September 25th.

Love You Until Death van Lara Reims is de eerste paranormale YA die ik lees, en het was geen teleurstelling. Het is een boek vol met spanning, waarbij ik het grootste deel van de tijd in de war was, maar op de goeie manier. Het boek blijft de hele tijd een beetje vaag, wat ervoor zorgde datik de hele tijd wou verder lezen om te weten wat er nu echt gaande is. Dit geldt ook voor de personages in het boek, en dan voornamelijk Mary, het hoofdpersonage. Ik vond het een beetje moeilijk om met haar te connecten, maar naarmate het verhaal vorderde leer je steeds meer over haar en haar verleden, en kon ik haar steeds beter begrijpen.
Over het algemeen vond ik het een fijn boek om te lezen, niet langdradig en vol met verrassingen (de ene al wat meer voorspelbaar dan de andere). Het boek is een echte aanrader voor de liefhebbers van boeken met paranormale elementen, een hele hoop geheimen en een vleugje nature vs. science.

Love You Until Death by Lara Reims is the first paranormal YA I’ve read, and it did not disappoint. It’s a book full of suspense, where I was confused most of the time, but in a good way. The story remains somewhat vague throughout, which made me keep reading to find out what was really happening. This also applies to the characters in the book, especially Mary, the main character. I initially found it a bit difficult to connect with her, but as the story progressed, you learn more about her and her past, and I started to understand her better.
Overall, I found it an enjoyable book to read: not dragging, and full of surprises (some more predictable than others). The book is highly recommended for fans of paranormal elements, plenty of secrets, and a touch of nature vs. science.

I was super excited to start this, and it did not disappoint in the slightest! It kind of gave me the same vibes as the mystery books I used to read as a kid, and I loved that bit of nostalgia so much.
I read it in English, but the book is also available in Dutch.
The story was really nice and easy to read. I finished it in two sittings and ended up having to drag myself to bed. There were parts where I really could not put it down!!
Mary was such an interesting character. As someone who also experiences unexplained pain sometimes I was able to relate a lot to her and really felt for her.
I'm not going to lie tho, in the beginning I found her pretty annoying, and her jealousy gave off a bad vibe. But throughout the story, she definitely changed a lot for the better.
I also really liked that she was dating another girl! I loved their friendship and relationship so much.
I did figure out the majority of the ending like 40% into the book, but I honestly didn't mind that. I still got surprised by other parts of the ending tho!!
If you're looking for an exciting, slightly spooky, mystery read, this book will be perfect for you!!

Ik was echt super enthousiast om dit boek te lezen, en het heeft me absoluut niet teleurgesteld. Het deed me sterk denken aan de mysterie boeken die ik vroeger als kind las, en dat vleugje nostalgie vond ik echt geweldig.
Ik heb het boek in het Engels gelezen, maar er is ook een Nederlandse versie beschikbaar.
Het verhaal zelf leest vlot en gemakkelijk door. Ik had het in twee zittingen uit en moest mezelf 's avonds echt dwingen om te stoppen met lezen en naar bed te gaan haha.
Mary was een interessant personage. Als iemand die zelf ook te maken heeft met onverklaarbare pijn kon ik me goed in haar verplaatsen en leefde ik echt met haar mee.
In het begin vond ik haar eerlijk gezegd behoorlijk irritant en haar jaloezie kwam nogal kinderachtig over. Gelukkig maakte ze later in het verhaal een mooie ontwikkeling door.
Ik vond het ook zo enorm leuk dat ze een relatie had met een andere meid! Ze waren echt ontzettend schattig samen, en ik vond hun vriendschap en relatie zo cute!!
Ik had helaas al vrij vroeg een groot deel van het einde door, maar toch wist het boek me op andere punten nog enorm te verrassen!!
Als je opzoek bent naar een spannend, soms wat griezelig mysterie dan is dit boek echt een aanrader!! 🫶🏻

Aller eerst wil ik hamleybooks & lara reims bedanken voor het recensie exemplaar.

Wanneer je een boek leest en de titel van het boek pas gaat begrijpen naarmate je verder komt in het verhaal... en dan denkt: "AHA " maar ook: " 🥺😢😭".
Dit engelstalige paranormale verhaal zet de schrijfster heel sterk neer, waar het verhaal mee van start gaat met in het begin makkelijk volgbare personages naar diepe duistere geheimen , ik had telkens tijdens het lezen de wie is de mol uitspraak in mijn hoofd: "Niets is wat het lijkt."
Mary en haar oma zijn mijn 2 lievenings personages ( laat mij alsjeblieft niet kiezen tussen die 2 🤭) Waarom? De band die zij met elkaar hebben is zo sterk en mooi om te lezen. Ook de humor/opmerkingen van oma vond ik erg vermakelijk om te lezen.
Maar laat je niet misleiden door oma haar grappige opmerkingen dit boek kan best een rollercoaster zijn en triggers oproepen als je gevoelig bent voor paranormaal of thriller verhalen/vibes/ervaringen.
Van angstig naar een traan, en van een traan naar een lach geef ik dit boek 4 van de 5 sterren, en ik ben heel erg benieuwd wat Lara voor ons nog meer in petto heeft voor ons, ik ben in ieder geval fan! Ben jij benieuwd naar dit boek? Dan heb jij geluk want het boek is al verkrijgbaar!

A young adult thriller book for readers who love books with a paranormal edge.
Mary is being haunted by pain, visions and nightmares ever since she was little. But the pain is growing and in the meantime kids are disappearing. Mary feels that everything is
connected but apart from her girlfriend, who is going to believe this underaged girl from
a boarding school?
The main character Mary lives at a boarding school. Her grandmother thought it was
best since Mary’s mother isn’t alive anymore and her father is always busy with work. I
really like Mary, she’s a smart girl that’s been through a lot but she can talk/vent to her
girlfriend. This book really shows how important it is to have these kinds of
friendships/relationships during the teenage years.
The book is easy readable, doesn’t use words that I had to look up to understand and
builds the tension slowly. Therefore I think it’s perfect for the young adult readers who
love some suspense without a big fright.
So if you like headstrong girls, suspense and mystery, this is the book for you.

Thoughts throughout the book :)
20% in - I was immediately hooked from the beginning I love the kind of mystery that’s going on like a little creepy with the kids going missing. It is also pretty fast paced. You hop right into the story, really easy to understand what’s going on.
37% in - This is my first kind of thriller book and I usually don’t like reading these things at night but i really can’t stop reading because i’m so invested into the story.
88% in - I am completely shocked with what I just found out. I saw someone say they kind of guessed the end of the storyline at 40% but I have no clue HOW everything is supposed to add up and I just lost words. I’m also reading this at midnight which might not be the best option😅.

20% in - I was immediately hooked from the beginning I love the kind of mystery that’s going on like a little creepy with the kids going missing. It is also pretty fast paced. You hop right into the story, really easy to understand what’s going on.
37% in - This is my first kind of thriller book and I usually don’t like reading these things at night but i really can’t stop reading because i’m so invested into the story.
88% in - I am completely shocked with what I just found out. I saw someone say they kind of guessed the end of the storyline at 40% but I have no clue HOW everything is supposed to add up and I just lost words. I’m also reading this at midnight which might not be the best option😅.

I just finished reading Love You Until Death by Lara Reims and wow, what a tense and gripping story. From the very first chapters there’s a constant sense of suspense that kept me wanting to read more every time, even when I barely had time to pick up the book.
This isn’t the kind of story I usually go for, but I really enjoyed it. The length felt perfect and the pacing kept me interested all the way through.
At the beginning I found it a bit hard to follow the story, but that might have been because I was only reading a few pages a day. Once I had more time to really get into it, I was completely hooked.
Overall, Love You Until Death is full of tension, mystery and emotion. Definitely a good read!

It was for me something else then i usualy read. But when i got through the firts couple chapters, and then the story just pulled me in . I even wrote some questions down everytime i was reading ( this is not something i do verry often).
Little bit over the middle of the book i had an idea how the story was evolving for some things i was right (felt good😂) and some things i was completly wrong.
But i need to say eventhough i had an idea the book keeps giving questions and keeps pulling you allong the story it was not at all that i had the feeling that okay this i know and oh that i know. That was not at all the case
The ending was also beautifully done. It was really wholesome.

I just finished Love You Until Death and it honestly surprised me. 🎞️
At first it feels like a classic boarding school mystery, but the way Mary’s pain and her dreams connect to the disappearances kept me hooked. It’s dark and unsettling, but never too much.
What I loved is that it’s not just about the mystery. It’s also about carrying something no one else understands, and that made Mary feel so real.
If you like YA thrillers with dark academia vibes that keep you guessing until the very end, this one is worth picking up. 🌛

I received this book from Hamley Books in exchange for an honest review.
This story follows a girl named Mary, she lives in a boarding school. She suffers from an unexplainable pain. The children in the village start disappearing and her pain only gets worse.
Mary also starts getting visions about the disappearing children and Mary starts to think that her visions, pain and the missing children are all connected.
At first I did not know what to think of this book. The story kind of vague for a long time (not in a disturbing way) so I didn't know where it was going. But somewhere along the line it fell more into place. Like I was getting more pieces to a puzzle. I really enjoyed the writing style. It is easy to read, smooth writing. I didn't get bored reading and I wanted to keep reading.
Now that I have read it all and I have taken some time to take it all in I can truly say that I love this book! I would definitely recommend this book if you love mystery, emotional, and thrilling books!

Mary woont in een boarding school waar in de stad kinderen mysterieus verdwijnen. Mary heeft zich altijd anders gevoeld, heeft altijd pijn en heeft nu ook visioenen. Er gebeuren rare dingen en Mary heeft het gevoel dat zij daar verbonden aan is.
Dit was zo’n interessant en spannend verhaal! Ik heb enorm genoten van dit boek. Ik heb het boek in 1 dag uitgelezen en dat gebeurd mij niet snel!
Het boek is dan wel ook wat korter, wat ik over het algemeen fijn vond want het leest lekker weg, maar soms miste ik wat details in het verhaal. Waarvan ik denk dat als het boek iets langer was die beter verteld hadden kunnen worden.
Al om al geef ik het boek 4⭐️!

Ik ging blind Love You Until Death in en dat zorgde ervoor dat ik meteen nieuwsgierig was. Het boek leest vlot weg en je wil telkens verder bladeren omdat je wilt ontdekken wat er nu precies aan de hand is. Het plot vond ik oprecht intrigerend en dat zorgde ervoor dat ik geboeid bleef. Toch moet ik zeggen dat ik aan het einde van het boek nog steeds niet helemaal begreep wat er nu precies bedoeld werd, en dat voelde voor mij wat onbevredigend.
De schrijfstijl lag me helaas niet zo. Ik vond die te simpel en tegelijk verwarrend, waardoor ik soms het gevoel had dat er net iets te veel onduidelijk bleef. Ook de personages bleven voor mij te oppervlakkig. Ik merk dat ik steeds meer hou van verhalen waarin de karakters echt tot leven komen en waarin hun gevoelens en motivaties duidelijker naar voren komen, en dat miste ik hier een beetje.
Hoewel dit dus niet helemaal een boek voor mij was, kan ik wel zeggen dat het verhaal zelf zeker interessant en origineel is. Voor lezers die houden van spanning en een mysterieus randje, kan dit boek absoluut de moeite waard zijn. Voor mij persoonlijk bleef het net iets te vlak om me echt te overtuigen
