For Such a Time: The Story of Jarrett Ross, by Anne Greene is the second book in Ross Family Saga. This is a story written based on real events in our nation's history. The book follows after the first in the saga, so it is best to read them in order. This story closely follows Jarrett as he becomes an adult during a trying time. During a deadly blizzard he stumbles upon the Flint home and falls for the daughter of the man who hates is family. Throughout the story we follow as he rides for the Pony Express and later gets pulled into the Union Army during the Civil War

This is a story that shows how the Civil War impacted so many people. It showed how those who didn't want to fight were forced to. I appreciate Jarrett's character and his belief in God. While he was forced to fight a war, he tried to hold true to not killing. He also held true to his love for Delight and how he thought of her during the war. This story gives a look into the hardships the soldiers faced with lack of food as well as how much was taken from the homeowners for the war efforts. I found the history behind the Cherokee nation and their part in the war to be very interesting.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story; this is my honest review.

I loved this book. The first couple of chapters were hard for me to get invested in. The trials the Cherokees went thru were many. As an Oklahoman who was born less than 2 hours south of Tahlequah, I have been to the places mentioned in the book. I did not know prior to reading the book just how much the Civil War affected the Cherokee nation. Another great book by Anne. I received an ARC paperback copy of this book but chose to borrow thru Kindle Unlimited and read it in the Kindle version. I would have read this book anyway and I am so glad I did.

FOR SUCH A TIME by Anne Greene is the outstanding historical fiction story of Jarrett Rose and his life in Indian Territory. When division puts two star-crossed lovers on opposite sides in the Civil War, Jarrett must stay strong in his faith, do what he feels is right in his heart, and work hard through extremely difficult times, to get back to the one he loves.

Jarrett, the son of John Ross, feels he has big shoes to fill. Once, disoriented in a snow storm he arrived at a farm in need of help. Unbeknownst to Jarrett, he had shown up at the property owned by the Flints, a family his family had feuded with for years. Delight Flint, home alone and who instantly enveloped his heart, had offered his shelter. Surviving a buffalo hunt alongside his friend Runninghorse and an Indian initiation rite proved to himself he was strong enough to go out on his own. He ached for adventure. The desire to do more than farm has him leaving, with his fathers blessing, to join the pony express. It was there he acquired the nickname Ghost Rider. With faster ways of spreading the word, he no longer had a job. Heading home, he was forced to join the Union forces. Being one who won’t kill another, he became a scout. Can he survive and get home to his family and the woman he loves?

Delight feels she’s more than the woman she expected to be. She has opinions of her own. The one thing she knows is that she has very strong, growing feelings for a man she’s forbidden to see just because of something that happened years ago. She determined to get word to him during these trying times in hopes he gets them and returns the gesture. What will become of this man on the opposite side of the war? Will he come back to her?

Will two brothers, each on opposite sides, be forced to come face to face on the battlefield? Will Jarrett’s need for excitement and adventure be satisfied? Will maturity and common sense have him realizing that all he needs is right back where he started from? Can love survive distance, hardship and a fifty-year feud? Having both matured since their last meeting, will the love still be as strong between them?

FOR SUCH A TIME is a story where fact meets fiction and captivates the reading’s attention making the book impossible to put down. Anne Greene gives us a book laced with historical facts yet grabs the reader’s attention with action, danger, loyalty, friendship, humanity, hardships, and weaves within the pages a strong thread of faith. FOR SUCH A TIME is without a doubt FIVE STAR reading that I recommend to EVERYONE!

I receive a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

For Such a Time, the Story of Jarrett Ross by Anne Greene is a spell-bound historical fiction during the Civil war period. The story follows the Ross family in Oklahoma in the 1850's.

Jarret Ross, is the son of John Ross whose story was told in The Trail of Tears.
With the desire to leave home to seek adventure, he joins the Pony Express and then the Union forces as a scout.

Jarrett, disorientated in a snow storm, found himself on the doorstep of the Flints, whose family has been feuding with his for years. Delight Flint was home alone, and offered him shelter. His heart was captured. "When she smiled, his thoughts scattered."

Anne Greene has such a distinct writing style that draws you into the story. You feel like you are riding along with the characters. There are so many historical facts which keep the interest high. This is a clean believable romance that has danger, friendship, loyalty and faith. "The story of ordinary people who do extraordinary things." A very compelling story.

I really enjoyed this book! I've read quite a few books related to John Ross, though this is the first about another member of his family. The story was fascinating, especially since I have an ancestor who fought in the Civil War. My ancestor fought not because he believed in slavery, he didn't own slaves, but because he knew the war would be fought on southern soil, he fought for his home. In this book, Jarrett didn't want to fight, he wasn't sure either side was right. He was forced into the war, the way I think a lot of others were. This book gives insight into both sides, and the choices we're all forced to make every day. I also love how the book shows "enemies" can become friends. There are some typographical errors in the book, and while they take me out of the story and are distracting, I didn't give fewer stars for this.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

I recently finished reading For Such a Time and wow! Set during the Civil War, it reminded me of the YA novel My Brother Sam is Dead. Both books explore the brutal impact war has on families and friends, the struggles it causes with conflicting ideologies and moral dilemmas, and the harsh realities of conflict. In this book, we see the way Jarrett Ross' life is disrupted and the emotional toll it has on him and his family. He survives harsh weather conditions, being away from his family for long periods of time, riding for the Pony Express, and then finding himself unwittingly having a part in the Civil War. His courage and perseverance combined with his faith in God, carry him into adulthood. I think the author did a great job of making the reader feel what Jarrett was going through. I couldn't help rooting that Jarrett would some day return home to the young woman he loved. This is a powerful book and I give it five stars.

This is a history-themed love story that took place during the Pony Express and Civil War times about Jarrett Ross and Delight Flint. I did not read the first book in this series, but this book held my attention and kept me interested to the point that I now want to read the first book. I felt that it was more focused on the historical aspect rather than the love story, but maybe that is because I find history boring. It was my least favorite class in school. Jarrett was forced to fight in the war and I found some of the things he went through cringe-worthy when it came to his physical suffering and the hardships he and others in the book faced. That is what makes a good author though. Otherwise, it was a well-written book. If you like history and romance, you will definitely enjoy this book.

Excellent Book! I did not want to put it down. This is the story of Jarrett Ross, the son of John Ross, from Anne's book, "Trail of Tears". He has overwhelming obstacles to work through in some very hard times in America's history. Anne writes the story so vividly that you feel like you are right there beside him. She doesn't skip the hard parts that people more than likely did experience in those days.
Anne writes thought-provoking details that keep you thinking about the story long after you're done.
For me, the Pony Express experiences that Jarrett had were so lonely and heart-racing at times, but I was glad when he finally went back home.
A favorite quote was:
"Sometimes I have to take a stand for the values I believe in. What I am and what I do are what I take with me into eternity."

I like historical fiction and loved this book. I enjoyed reading about the conflicts in Indian Territory in Oklahoma during the Civil War. Life was hard for both the settlers and the Native Americans. The story is about Jarrett Ross and the hardships he encounters. There is so much detail that I could feel all of Jarrett's emotions and pain. He participates in a buffalo hunt, encounters a blizzard, and falls for young woman Delight whose family aligns with the Confederacy and he doesn't. Jarrett became an expert pony express rider. He became involved in the war. Would things work out for him and Delight? This is an excellent story. I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion. I can't wait to read more Anne Greene books!

This book was wonderful. I had read the first one about the Trail of Tears when the Cherokee were forced from Georgia to Oklahoma. This one follows the Ross family in Oklahoma. The book gives great insight into how the Civil War affected the Cherokees. Jarrett Ross is one of the brothers that is pulled into the war, but on different sides. Jarrett also falls in love with the daughter of his family's worst enemy. The story is so compelling and makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens. And, the fact that it is based on history makes it even better. I do highly recommend it.

For all you history, buffs out there this book should tickle your fancy. It’s the next installment after a trail of tears. It’s set in the 1860s in the south. I can’t even imagine living during those times and all the conflict. This story follows Jarrett Ross and his fierce determination to make things right. Will he succeed and get the girl of his dreams? I was given a complementary copy of this book and the opinions are my own.

A very interesting historically true book. A western Romeo and Juliet. The stories of the Pony Express were very enlightening ....lots of details I never knew.
The details of the lives of people, both white and Native American , were very difficult.
People had a lot more strength and grit than people nowadays.

This was another wonderfully told story of real history, with part fiction in between. Jarrett Ross lived a very full life and did much in a short span of time. Being a small part Indian, he had friends in the Cherokee Nation. His friend Runninghorse took him on a buffalo hunt that lasted a little over a week. He learned much and physically pushed himself. Lost in a blizzard afterwards, he was rescued by Delight, a daughter of his family’s enemy. Telling her to wait for him, he joined the Pony Express. Another adventure full of danger and death. Then he was forced to join the army during the Civil War. He came close to death several times during these adventures but remembering Delight kept him pushing through to survive. He had a strong faith that kept him from killing and he also respected women. As his love for Delight kept him going, would they ever be united or had he lost her forever?
