A helpful, healthful and handy volume with printable recipes
I had my gallbladder removed in 2006 (with weight loss surgery) so I am not exactly a “beginner,” as the title suggest, but this book has been really helpful in understanding basic facts about digestion that were never explained in the first place. Finally getting why full-fat dairy and spicy foods are so problematic seem to tie in with other dietary issues and bloodwork abnormalities many of these recipes address with lower-fat, higher fiber and lean protein dishes. On top of that, they are delicious! Each is laid out with a beautiful photo on a page that could be printed back-to-back as a recipe card, with each including calories and other nutritional info per serving. Nothing is too difficult, from breakfasts like Vanilla Chia Seed Pudding and Berry Quinoa Porridge, to quick and healthy protein-rich lunches and dinners (Turkey Kabobs, Stuffed Zucchini, Chicken and Tomato Stew) featuring plenty of whole grains and veggies. I’m a sucker for sweets, and along with some great snacks and smoothies that can do double duty as dessert options in alignment with the program. All in all a helpful and handy volume I’ll definitely keep on hand.
