THIS IS BINARY…AND THE UNIVERSE BURNS WITH HER! X YEARS LATER, in the ashes of the old world, to survive she is reborn - a cosmic force channeling the Phoenix itself. With the universe crumbling, BINARY returns to save what's left. But power this great always comes with a price… and the end of everything might begin with her.
"Carol Danvers can put anything into our minds she wants maybe she just made up this whooe X- Virus thing?"
ex Ms.Marvel, ex Captain Marvel , Carol Danvers is now Binary in AOR. She's trying to protect a New England town from the virus ..but she's not making any friends doing it.
Pretty good. I like Carol. I want to know more about Jean choosing her, I'm interested what the situation was and if she had time for other options. I'm not sure Carol is who I think she'd choose, so I'm interested if there's a reason we haven't learned yet. Little cliffhanger at the end, is that "dead" Jean coming to check in on things?
In this reality, Carol Danvers wields the Phoenix Force. Which makes sense to those of us who noticed their superficial, aesthetic similarities. It makes less sense logically. Carol says that Jean Grey "chose" her as the next host of the Phoenix Force-- why? I have my usual speech about how Rachel Summers has been told, by the Phoenix Force, that she is the one true Phoenix. Rachel is supposed to be more powerful than Jean, not less. So, in this reality, why on Earth would Jean choose Carol --whom she isn't even particularly close friends with-- over her own daughter?
Next, why does Carol now have Jean's telepathy and telekinesis? Those are Jean's mutant powers. Other people have been hosts to the Phoenix Force before. It magnifies whatever your preexisting powers are, usually while also giving you wings of cosmic flame that you can manifest for dramatic effect. Carol doesn't have any telepathy or telekinesis. So, the Phoenix Force should just have magnified her preexisting Binary powers. That's it.
I'm not going to weigh in on the questionable decision that the Phoenix-empowered Carol decided to protect a few thousand people in her home town from the X-virus, and just stay there babysitting them for ten years. I could see myself doing that, so it's a plausible course of action. I'm just not sure it's reasonable given the set of facts we're presented with. If Carol now has phenomenal cosmic power and telepathy, why isn't she in contact with the outside world? Jean used to be capable of telepathically communicating with every mind on the planet. Why can't Carol even make one long-distance phone call?
I’m not familiar with Carol Denvers nor am I up to date with X-men like that. However, I picked this up by chance and I like it a lot! Being in people’s minds and essentially being a dictator for a town sounds like Wandavison but I hope that’s not the case for this. Either way for the first issue the art and dialogues were great. Ready for the next issue!
Carol Danvers as Anthony Fauci is the story no one asked for. Jean Grey chose Carol as the Phoenix? Hasn't the Phoenix always chosen a host for itself? So far this crossover isn't exciting to me, and this chapter is no more thrilling. In an event that resonates as skippable, this series seems even more so.
“because i am carol danvers… and i will always stand up for those who can’t protect themselves.”
this was so good!!! carol is a really interesting host for phoenix and makes for a compelling story only one issue in. i had low expectations going in but wow did i enjoy this
Wow did this get off to a fast paced start. I am looking forward to finding out the back story on how Carol has the Phoenix force now and why Doug Ramsey is such a "tool".
