THE HEIR RISES – THE RESISTANCE IGNITES! X YEARS LATER, the Revelation Territories stretch from the Atlantic to the Mississippi – a mutant utopia ruled by the heir of Apocalypse. But beneath the surface, rebellion brews. As a ragtag X-Men team strikes from the shadows, Revelation faces threats from within. It all begins here – the dawn of the AGE OF REVELATION!
Ten years into the future...Scott is awakened and learns the truth about Revelation aka Doug and exactly what he's done in that time. This one hits the ground running and I'm bracing myself to read the 17 other connected titles this month.
A classic opening for this kind of time-travel plot, though with the peculiarity that key characters are elimated rather quickly. It’s well written, but that’s about it. I definitely don’t like Stegman’s artwork.
There is quite a bit of action in this issue which is a nice change of pace. I haven't read an X-book in years but I am stepping back in to read some of the Age Of Revelation stories. Maybe it will kick start the regular X-line of comics, which tbh just hasn't looked that good when compared to the classics that came before.
I only bought this fir the Artgerm variant cover of Kwannon, but this is actually excellently illustrated Ryan Stegman comic book. Unfortunately, it's an event that I don't care for. Why can't Marvel make their regular books relevant again?
promising start to what is shaping up to be a completely bloated and inconsequential event. but im here to eat up that slop like the little piggy i am. great interiors by stegman as always
At least it started with a bang! Every 10+ yrs. the House of Ideas throws us an X-Men "shake up" crossover event. I hope this is better that the post-Krakoan comics.
It must be said that the art is exceptional. I'm warming to the ideas of Age of Revelation, but Revelation is unrecognizable as Doug Ramsey: there is no trace in his characterization as his original character. It might work if we had seen the development of Doug completely into this villainous character, and we do get a hint of an edgier Doug in previous stories in "our" present, but without the complete leadup to this change, the heel turn lacks credibility. I'll once more use the example of the Best in the Karkoan era, a character who I know is criticized for his villainous awakening, but that I feel had a years long lead-up. For Beast the change was there, but this reader for one did not find it terribly shocking, or unbelievable at least. This issue is a must-read for Age of Revelation, as it is the first proper part of the story.
