REUNITED RUNAWAYS…FOR NOW? Will Alex and the Runaways be able to put aside their differences and make peace in the face of DOOM? Will Karolina have a change of heart about the Staff of One when the chips are down? Will Chase be able to look past his anger at Gert? AND WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THE RUNAWAYS? All this and more in the heartbreaking finale!
Loved to see ALL of the Runaways fighting together! Unfortunately I’m really not a fan of magical girl Gert. I really don’t think she needed more to make her special, especially since that’s already Nico’s thing. Hope sharing it isn’t permanent. I’m hoping that the way this book ends with “THE END… FOR NOW!” which is filling me with hope means an announcement of more Runaways is imminent!
Rainbow Rowell at least tried to capture the spirit of the gang in her last run of Runaways. I disagree with the choice to shit upon 90s comics, but there were some good qualities to the last run. This little miniseries? It's practically an abomination.
The climax was a fight against a bunch of Doombots? So in this whole "Emperor Doom" event, the Runaways carried on an inconsequential side quest? Doombot the character was only relevant inasmuch as he was a pawn that Doom wanted to claim, but none of these characters actually dealt with Doctor Doom himself. Alex Wilder inexplicably is alive and back to trying to hang out with the gang, even though he famously betrayed them all and died. His return is, what, an attempt to return to some kind of status quo?
The "Strange Fate" comic that came out last month continues to not make any sense. That comic featured Karolina and Nico as a lesbian couple, but for some reason Nico still had her Staff of One and was actively using it in the present, as she fell through Wanda's Last Door. This didn't make any sense, because Nico had Karolina dispose of her Staff of One about five years ago. In this issue, (the final issue of this run of Runaways), Nico STILL does not have the Staff of One. So, that "Strange Fate" comic featuring Nico, Scarlet Witch, Wiccan, and Hulkling, was just WRONG. It made no sense with continuity whatsoever. It wasn't set in the future or the past. It. Was. Just. Wrong.
Excellent issue of the Runaways. The storyline and character interaction came together to make this my favorite issue of the series.Nico Minoru powers finally developed enough to go up against the Doombots.
